Lovely little pub.. We had two meals could tell they were home made, they were lovely and great portions couldn't eat it all.. Will be returning in the future.

I haven't been to the Boat Inn for quite a while. I decided to pop in on Sunday 25th August for a Sunday lunch. I had a Roast Beef Dinner. The food was delicious and a full plate. I will be going back.

Lovely canal side pub with views of the steam train. Very pretty area. Sunny day so perfect for sitting out. Bench/table set up. Didn't eat but food looked simple enjoyable. Mens toilets were atrocious. Ladies weren't visited but hope they were in better shape than the gents.

Fabulous pub... cosy with plenty of charecter. Great outdoor seating areas and pet friendly. Food is lovely, especially the home made chips. Great range of drinks to suit all. Staff go above and beyond to ensure a happy visit.

Very disappointing. Had a lovely walk here down from Denford. Arrived to find one group of adults outside and some kids inside doing a karaoke dance game on the big screen. I think the adults were the landlord and landlady and their friends and the unsupervised kids were their kids and their friends' kids. At one point the landlord moved the kids over to a table next to ours where the kids watched something noisy on a phone. The landlord barely acknowledged our presence, except with a suspicious glance. It felt like we'd walked into somebody's holiday cottage. We left.

Great little spot and good homemade old fashioned food , homemade chips and the lamb cutlets were fabulous, highly recommend and not over priced and very friendly .

Food was delicious. Salmon with sweet chilli , lasagne and sausages with beans and fries for our toddler. Great wiev outside next to canal. Our little one was busy playing with fire engine and police car we borrow from one of a stuff member it was available just next to the bar and thanks that we both could eat in ✌️. Lovely magic place I truly recommend!

Called for lunch on Friday 26 July. Meals were excellent. And at a reasonable price. Have not been to the Boat for quite a few years. But will certainly be going back. the staff where brilliant. Many thanks

we came for rail ale on Saturday then returned early on a Sunday we’d had no cuppa or breakfast and only a bag of nuts and crisps the evening before ! we ordered two lovely Sunday dinners it was worth waiting for 💯 perfect 👌🏻 just like visiting a mum proper tasty homely food thankyou very much you do an excellent job here and we hope to return soon x I’d advise anyone in the cheddleton area to come here. I also love thatchers haze cider which is on here.

Well if you are looking for a fabulous Sunday lunch come along to the boat inn at Cheddleton you won't be disappointed. Been coming here for a while now and the food has always been good however on our return this time it was under new management so was thinking maybe the food won't be as nice but how wrong I was . Will definitely be back, best Sunday lunch ever and great value for money at £9.99. We had five veg 2 roast plenty of beef mash potatoes Yorkshire pudding and all homemade.

Visited the Boat Inn by canal narrow boat. Had a lovely home cooked meal of lamb chops with mash and vegetables. The ale was good too. Thoroughly recommend stopping here. Mooring available on the towpath side of the canal and there is a bridge across.

What a great pub! located right on the canal. The landlord and lady are so welcoming and sat and had a chat with myself. Telling me they have only been here a few weeks, They have re launched the kitchen and the food is out of this world!! This pub will definitely go from strength to strength with this fantastic couple at the helm!

Great location and very good lager. Jubilee Day! Fantastic turnout and busy but prompt service. Memories of 'The Boat' as it was many years ago. Keep up the good work!! P.S. prices are good too! Alas, all good things come to an end... and new beginnings! Today, we visited to wish Vince and Julia good luck as they left for a new adventure. They will be a hard act to follow as they have turned the inn around during their occupation. Thanks both for being superb hosts and thanks to your lovely staff. Stay safe x

A group of us visited last night for Steak night, and the food was delicious. All of the steaks were cooked to perfection. Lovely friendly staff and all in all a fabulous evening.

Amazing people! We were booked in at short notice for Mother's Day and there were 11 of us including 2 children and a baby. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The staff were lovely and very helpful and patient. The chef came out to speak to us several times about our needs and he accommodated all our requests as we had fussy kids and one vegan amongst us. One of the staff brought some toys over for the kids (2 very lively boys!) to play with. The food was really good and there was lots of it! The children's portions were quite large too, so if your a little eater like me, one of those would be plenty! It was a set menu but there were various desserts to choose from. Prices were great and it was well worth it. Ask the Mum's in our party (there were 3) got presented with a little plant too 🥰. We will definitely be returning. Thank you to all the staff for your patience and kindness. You made our Mother's Day even more special.🌷

After an afternoon walking in the dales we decided to seek out a pub for Sunday lunch. We searched for pubs in the local area and of course trip advisor reviews and we settled on the Boat Inn. Sunday lunch was the dish of the day x1 chicken and x1 pork with the addition of the onion sauce. Found a cosy table by the fire in the back room. Dinner arrived.. Looked very promising and it did not disappoint, hot, tasty and delicious. Special mention for Alannah who took our order and looked after us and helped make out experience a 10 out of 10. We would definitely recommend great pub with a warm welcome.

The perfect spot after a day climbing Mam Tor. Lovely atmosphere. The staff are so welcoming and friendly and the Sunday Roast was just perfect! I highly recommend!

Had a lovely visit on steak night (Thursday). Staff very friendly, chatty and locals friendly. Cosy atmosphere. Food amazing, steak full of flavour cooked to perfection, good portions and value for money. Catered for dairy free no issues. Will definitely return. Dog friendly, my dog loved her steak. Highly recommend.

Great little pub shame about the early closing hours

Wonderful friendly pub, proprietors know how to intereact with customers, treat every guest as if they were one of the family. Would recommend their delicious Sunday roast. Unfortunately, they barred me. Lol.

We came here because we have travelled this beautiful canal on our boat so we decided to visit in our campervan. We went into the Boat Inn for dinner and drinks and the food is proper home cooked food, absolutely gorgeous! We had hunters chicken which was delicious, it was Thursday steak night, £29.95 for 2 steaks and a bottle of wine and it looked amazing. Such a lovely atmosphere and total credit to the owners and staff and locals of this beautiful pub. They made us feel very welcome, thankyou ❤️❤️

Noticed tables had reservation at 3pm & they gave them tables away (not to the people that have clearly booked) came to 3pm & people are coming in saying they’ve got a table booked.. no tables available. they’ve clearly over booked on tables and are wondering around looking for space, completely get, but to come across to our table bearing in mind we booked this at 2pm just finished our mains they couldn’t even let our food settle & have the nerve to say our table is booked at 3pm🤔 clearly wasn’t as you just gave that table away to the couple next to us.. Felt rush & it was so rude what they did!! Will definitely not be going back. All the manager could say was I appreciate that.. well I don’t appreciate been rushed of a table we booked for not even an hour

Loverly country pub set in a beautiful location with friendly staff and a good selection of beers .

Excellent home cooked food, very enjoyable

They serve "visitors" at extortionate prices knowing they don't come back. Locals are a second thought. Proprietors have the ethos of "right, we've had your money, now fluck off. Enough said.

A very good public house on the bank of the Caldon Canal In Basford Green, Cheddleton, very close to the Cheddleton Railway.

We each had a drink (beer and Shandy) and a burger. The burgers were delicious, with chunky fries that were cooked so they were crunchy yet fluffy. There was a lovely fresh salad also. We were very full! The pub was quaint situated alongside a canal and across a narrow bridge to a steam train station. A nice after dinner stroll to take some pictures. The staff were friendly and attentive.

Only went in as my phone ran out of battery when I was paddleboarding back from The Churnet Valley. Went in to ask to use their phone & they not only called a taxi for me, who said they'd be half an hour, so ordered a lemonade, & they then even offered to charge my phone!! I'm really impressed with the service & it's in a beautiful area! I didn't eat there (yet!) But due to the service & location I'll definitely be returning with friends & more than likely go after a hike, so order a nice meal after! So I'll update this, but if the food is half as good as the friendliness & service then I I'll probably be giving it 5 a full set of 5 stars! Cosy inside & lots of outdoor seating, too! I would like to thank one barman in particular for going above & beyond! So highly recommend!!

Absolutely incredible steak. Two steak meals and a bottle of wine for £29.95. So much food you cant see the plate and the steak melts in your mouth. Would absolutely recommend this lovely pub with a welcoming atmosphere.

Fantastic place, surroundings set in with natural beauty of Staffordshire. Located Next to canal, river an working steam train station. Great afternoon with family an grand children.

We arrived to be advised that it is Steak night - not an ideal start for a vegetarian!! However, I chose the carrot and lentil burger and it was absolutely delicious. Massive onion rings and chunky chips. I was particularly impressed that the Chef queried whether I was vegetarian or vegan in order to change his cooking style. My Husband had rump steak which was massive and again he thoroughly enjoyed it. Fully recommend the Boat Inn. Thank you all.

Waitress forgot to put our food order through but did get a portion of fries when our food eventually arrived.

Wow if you havent had the sunday roast, you need to try it, it was like having my own cooked dinner served to me, without the hardwork of doing it myself......it was amazing, so much so that i went again with my sunday dinner buddy...all their food is amazing...but the sunday dinner has to be my fave,just because i loveeeeee a good homemade dinner without having to wash the pots...xx Price wise, really affordable.... Also thankyou for the jump scare...haha she knows who she is...love you lots...and will see you soon...xxxxx

Got food poisoning from the prawns on the jacket potato. Husband very poorly after eating them. Rang the restaurant to inform them, just said thanks for letting them know and didn’t even check we were okay.

A rather pleasant canalside pub with friendly staff providing good service. A well kept pint of Marston's Pedigree is on offer. I was visiting the Churnet Vallley Railway way and stopped here for lunch and a pint, the pub is just a three minute walk from the railway. The food is standard pub grub that's well cooked and tasty.

Went for lunch very busy and service of the food was poor, tables served before us, at least 1/2 an hour wait between my meal and Mum's, just seemed to be chaotic which was a shame as food and location good

Only had a drink here a couple of times, it is a lovely clean pub, with great facilities, and a lovely atmosphere. Staff are friendly, we sat outside which was so pretty. It is also dog friendly.

Wir hatten einen Tisch für 7 Personen vorbestellt und angefragt, ob wir mit unseren Wohnmobil nach Besuch des Lokals kostenlos über Nacht stehen können. Dies war kein Problem! Essen und Getränke waren lecker und der Preis angemessen, das Personal freundlich, Hunde herzlich willkommen, die Toiletten sauber und gepflegt. Wir sind auch mit Einheimischen ins Gespräch gekommen und hatten einen sehr vergnüglichen Abend! Die Nacht war angenehm ruhig. Gleich neben dem Parkplatz kann man auch gemütlich an einer alten Bahnstrecke und einem kleinen Fluss spazieren gehen. Sehr zu empfehlen! :-)

The Pesto Chicken and Cheese Toastie is the best thing I have had in a while from any pub!! Also, their burgers are superb!

My husband and I went for a lovely meal yesterday evening. What a lovely experience we had. The food was great, the staff amazing, the pub itself is very clean and tidy. We are on our hols, cruising a few canals and I must say, of the many places we have eaten, this is far the best. The staff made us feel so welcome, the chef 😘 went above and beyond x Unfortunately, 5 stars is all I can give but they deserve a whole lot more! Nettie & Alan x

We visited The Boat Inn today for Sunday lunch.The staff are friendly, welcoming and efficient.Our Sunday lunches were delicious.Beef, Chicken melted in your mouth.Both meals were good portions all cooked to perfection and at a very good price..We had not visited The Boat for over 18 years but it is still a winner.Pub is nicely presented throughout.We travelled from Cheshire to reminisce and we were not disappointed.We will return!.

Stayed overnight in our campervan in their carpark. Made us and our Springer Spaniel very welcome. Food was tasty, all the staff were lovely the locals were very friendly, great atmosphere in a beautiful setting. Had a brilliant time. Would love to visit again and highly recommend it.

Saturday evening, we had the option to eat inside or out so we opted for outside as it was a lovely evening, over looking the canal was so peaceful and quiet The food was fab, proper home cooked hearty filling food. If only I'd have had room for pudding! This was the 2nd time we'd visited and it did not disappoint. Lovely atmosphere, brilliant food, excellent value for money and friendly attentive staff. We visited for a drink and to sit in the Sun after stopping at Cheddleton Station on the Churnet Valley Railway. The staff were really friendly and accommodating, will definitely visit again as we saw all the events they have planned for the coming months

We'd never visited the Boat Inn before but had a lovely lunch there. It was a bit late for lunch but bless them, we had some really tasty and good looking food. The folk there running it were really friendly and helpful. We sat outside overlooking the canal, the weather was glorious, it was fab.

Food mediocre & expensive for portion size although well cooked, music blaring but was instantly turned down upon complaint. Noisy kids running about in compact pub/dining area (not pubs fault). Nice location, unsure whether would go back.

Stayed over night in their car park, we had a lovely meal in the bar, it was great. In the morning we had canal boats and a steam engine moving about getting ready for the day.
