Hotel Rudyard Carvery in Staffordshire Moorlands

Visited for a quick lunch. Good service, good selection of real ales and good food with great view from the dining room. We had the steak and onion ciabattas and they were excellent. Not the cheapest place in the area but certainly worth the money. Will definitely call in again.

Drove out from Knutsford on an adventure day out with our friend Jan, and ended up at Hotel Rudyard for an afternoon lunch. Lovely hot latte's served, were followed with our main meal order-- giant Yorkshire pud filled with mash, veg and lots of roast beef and gravy-- I had hunters chicken, veg and chunky chips. All was absolutely gorgeous, served by lovely young lady servers- a credit to the business!! Spotlessly clean premises AND really lovely views. Excellent service from all the staff I came into contact with, the room was small but good value for money as I only booked a single room, the walk around the lake is worth the visit on its own. The evening meal was not of a very good standard but breakfast was excellent. I visited on a Tuesday and it was very quiet so they closed the bar at 9pm which was a little early but it’s understandable. I would recommend a visit if you need accommodation in the area.

We only ate here, lovely setting but food awful. Burnt gravy, slushy mash, stuffing that was like a tasteless sludge, not a single thing on plate tasted good…at £20 a plate not what expect, half eaten plates of food left on table everywhere you look.

Went for breakfast 10.30amish, exceptionally slow service. Food presentation rather unappetising, toast came without butter, had to ask & 2 small squares came for 4 pieces of toast!!! Food quality mediocre.👎👎👎👎 Shame for such a lovely location

Was a nice little pub vibe type of hotel. Room was good but the TV signal was in and out and there was no way of switching the extractor fan off in the bathroom while the light was on which was a shame. Food was good, staff were present and fairly attentive. The downstairs was very cold but they do have blankets if needed

Bottomless brunch is still fantastic here. Jake & Emmie were our servers & they are brilliant. Food was lovely, huge portions. The drinks were kept topped up. Excellent value for money. Can’t wait to return for more. We did have one minor gripe - it was really quite chilly in there, but once we’d mentioned it the heating went on 🙂

Haven't stayed here generally go fo a bottomless brunch in one of the pods, for is nice but think the drinks menu of theme bottomless needs a shake up, lovely staff.

Christmas dinner, poor quality food which was served lukewarm and had to be sent back, returning much the same as had received it. Glasses were dirty and had to get those replaced too. Service was slow and lacklustre. Bitten off more than you can chew Rudyard. It's far better to limit covers and maintain quality than to over promise and under-deliver!

A group of us met for Christmas Eve lunch and we were not disappointed . We had pre-ordered our menu choices from the Festive menu which was £32.95 for three courses. We were served promptly by staff that seemed to know what they were doing and they were English ( that's not racist but a fact that foreign staff are usually better trained ) and apart from a short delay on one person's main course everything went well. The surroundings have been improved tremendously and offer a very comfortable dining experience. If you are in the area, give it a try.

Great lunchtime menu, good value

We stayed at the Rudyard Hotel over Christmas and New Year and can say the experience was fantastic. The cottage was perfect as was the food and the service, nothing was too much for the friendly team.

1st time out for us as a family going for Christmas dinner. Hotel Rudyard was an enjoyable experience. The positives: the staff were friendly and attentive. The big room we were seated in was perfect for our table of 10. The 2 young kids could move around and didn't feel like they were imposing on others. For those that got a welcome drink, this was a nice reception. Nice Christmas music was playing giving a great ambience. The food came out with time between courses which was great and we didn't feel rushed. The majority of the food was excellent. The choice on the menu had good variation, I was limited as pregnant so there were a few starters I couldn't have and one of the deserts but that's expected. The pork belly starter I had tasted delicious, well presented. The beef fell off the bone and was delicious. The veggies were tasty and the portions were generous. I had the cheesecake, not a massive cheesecake fan, would have liked a fruit flavoured desert option on the menu but as I couldn't have the baileys crème brûlée and my mums Christmas pudding is the best, this was my option. It was enjoyable. The cons: some of the party didn't get offered a welcome drink on arrival. However when we let the waitress know, she let them get a drink afterwards. The pork belly was cold. I assumed this would be served hot. We were all quite surprised by that. If this had been hot, this would have been delicious. Those that had pate felt the portion was very generous but only 2 pieces of small toast so couldn't eat it. The Yorkshire pudding on a few of the meals were so tough, I couldn't cut mine even when I'd left it soaking in gravy. This was a huge disappointment as everyone's fave part of a roast is the Yorkshire in our family. Many of us left them which has never happened at home. The dauphinois potatoes were not enjoyable. No cream and slightly undercooked. Those of us that had these didn't eat them. When my pudding came out, the ice cream had already melted which suggested it had been sat waiting to be taken out. Overall we enjoyed the day but to pay a premium and the food not be served as expected was a bit of a disappointment.

We had the pleasure of having our wedding here, planned within 12 weeks and couldn't have been any more perfect. Great communication and support throughout the planning and exceptional service on the day. The food was amazing and all the staff were friendly and accommodating. Fantastic setting in a quiet village with a lovely lake walk nearby. Food, both evening meal and breakfast, was excellent and our room was very comfortable with all we needed. All the staff were helplful and friendly.

The setting was serene, nestled right next to a stunning lake. I reserved a family room featuring a bunk bed, and my 6-year-old daughter absolutely adored it. The receptionist was there to greet us for our late check-in, ensuring that we were satisfied with everything before heading home. It was a thoughtful touch that made our arrival feel welcoming. He ensured that my extra request was fulfilled, even during the late hours. The inclusion of breakfast during our stay was a delightful surprise, and the English breakfast was both substantial and expertly prepared. I strongly suggest this place for anyone seeking a comfortable and welcoming environment to stay.

Not a friendly place asked if we were eating said no thanks just a drink staff never came back to serve us so walked out and went for a drink in leek

We arrived at our table and we got asked for drinks so we ordered drinks and food, the waiter proceeded to tell us to wait before we get our food for the que down as they where queuing to the door. 10 minutes passed and the waiter tells us you might aswell join the queue as it isn’t going down. We waited for 40 minutes in the queue to get our food and when we finally got back to the table our drinks were warm and flat. The food was a 3 out of 5 it was look warm and the turkey was dry. Better off at Toby carvery 🤷‍♂️

Hidden away, just outside Leek in Staffordshire, this old scenic hotel stands close to the lake of the same name. We enjoyed our visit, great beer (Draught Bass) and great food (Steak and Ale Pie) even the music was to our tastes, a bit 60's but I just remember.

I have not visited the hotel for a while, and the improvements carried out here are a real credit to the management. The work done internally and externally has really updated the hotel and made a very warm and cosy environment inside. We reserved a lunchtime table for a business meeting. Very nice location in the window with beautiful views. The service was very prompt and professional. We ordered a steak, the Dunwood burger, and a chicken pie. The food was excellent quality. Water was provided for us on the table in advance, which was a nice touch. Very good value for money and will definitely be returning in the future.

I called in on Monday for lunch after a walk around Rudyard Lake with the kids having not been to the hotel for several years. And wow what an improvement, the place has changed so much! The menu is absolutely fantastic! the food was incredible! There is a whole gluten free menu! Not just options but a whole menu! The food was amazing, the service was spot on. Will be visiting again soon.

Went to the hotel restaurant for breakfast. The food was amazing and the people were very helpful and kind.

Stayed for one night for work. Staff were very accommodating when I asked to switch rooms as there wasn't a shower in the bathroom of the first room. Came down for dinner and despite sitting and waiting for fifteen minutes I didn't receive any service so I went elsewhere to eat. Tried several times to get the attention of the waitress and even started to talk to her as she walked past me but no acknowledgement. The room was insanely hot when I arrived, it was a pretty warm day and all the radiators were on. Cobwebs everywhere, stained wallpaper, stained throw cushions on the bed, no sockets by the bed, bed was uncomfortable and the TV was really high up on the wall so a bit awkward to watch. For the price (£130/night) I would expect much better service and standards of cleanliness. Aside from the waitress who ignored me all of the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Very nice expensive for the quality and portion sizes of food. Ordered: Rudyard Burger this was an exception to the above comment. Gammon Steak: small, alot of blood on plate, small clips portion, over priced. Scampi and chips: would be better suited to 'light bite' massively overpriced. The location is always beautiful and we had a wedding fair when we visited. Would not return for food and would recommend bringing your own food if visiting Rudyard. Would not recommend for families with children as this is not the atmosphere here, unless sitting outside.

The Million Donner was cold. The fish cakes ok. But the Greek salad.. a bowl of iceberg lettuce with a little feta and a bit of tomato.. £14!! Ridiculous.

We parked here for a walk round the lake, and stopped for lunch afterwards. It made me wish we were staying here because this is a beautiful hotel in a perfect spot. The food was excellent and servings very generous, staff were friendly and the £3 car park fee was deducted from our food bill. Would highly recommend.

Not nice food at all. Were told on arrival there was a street food menu and limited regular menu. The food came out very quickly but wasn't good, we didn't finish it and thankful we bought snacks in the car for our overnight stay! Would not recommend.

Really nice place, great view, great food. Bar was a bit overrun, staff were struggling and the beer is waaaay over priced. Could do with some kids play equipment in the outside space, they have room. One staff member got kind of grunoy about us being in a pod without reservation, not using it just looking, but she scowled alot. Will definitely come again, though it needs some finessing, especially for the price.

Visited today with my sister. Both ordered ‘cheese and onion jam sandwich’ £13.95 each. The bread was stale, it was absolutely rock hard, we both left it. The ‘onion jam’ is actually a very chunky chutney, so not as we expected. Complained to both the waitress and gentleman who appeared to be manager. Absolutely nothing was done to compensate a pretty poor meal, all we had was an apology and they made the chef aware. Unfortunately won’t be returning for food, it’s a shame as couldn’t fault anything else and we visit the lake regularly.

Went for a friends birthday, and we hired one of their dining pods. The food was great, the service was excellent, and the pod dining experience was amazing.

Can’t fault the place. Visited for lunch twice in a week. Customer service was excellent and home cooked food was perfect. Wide range of choice to suit all dietary requirements. . Dog friendly too in the bar area.

Economic carvery. Good value and taste.

We used to really enjoy coming here for Sunday dinners every other week, however it has been around 2 years since our last visit (as we moved quite a distance away) unfortunately we were a little disappointed. We waited at the 'please wait here to be seated' sign, however, nobody came to us (even though 3 young members of staff were huddled around the end of the bar - in full view of us and others waiting behind us) so we decided to go past and wait at the bar to hopefully be seated, however, even stood right next to the 3 young members of staff (we were a group of 5, so quite noticeable) we were still not greeted and asked if they could help us, or even take the time to say 'sorry, we will be with you in just a minute' if they were busy. Unfortunately, they continued to stand at the bar and talk about money. A lovely (and I can't express this enough - LOVELY) older gentleman behind the bar asked if he could help us. He quickly got us a table and helped in any way he could. He had us waited on, and he even got our girls some colourings when asked if they had any, and apologised for any delays in being seen to by the younger members of staff. We had our drinks order by a young female member of staff, which took awhile to come and ended up missing 2 drinks off the order, but they came in the end. And then food orders. However, again, we ordered another round of drinks off of a young girl (which didn't arrive) and then mentioned it to a different young girl who came and asked if she could get us anymore drinks, to which she disappeared, but our drinks never arrived. Our children were getting quite disruptive at this point, so we decided to get the bill and leave. If it wasn't for the older gentleman of whom was just lovely, we would have been very disappointed. So thank you for making our tea a bit better! Hopefully your young staff members get a kick up the bottom and take their jobs a bit more seriously! 🙏

We went for Sunday breakfast in mid January. Hubby had Full English, I had oatcakes. Service was quick & food turned up promptly & hot. Delicious. 😋 Hotel is lovely & the proximity to the lake is fabulous (obviously!) There are also pods outside to dine in, although I don't know about the details. Presumably you need to book & pay, but they look like they'd comfortably seat 6 (8 would be snug).

Another great two day stay, woke up to a winter wonderland. Initially booked a one night stay as not sure how good this place was. 10 seconds after arriving I knew I was onto a winner here. The room was beautiful and tastefully decorated the Bar, restaurant and outside areas equally as stunning. Later I booked for the following evening too. . Great value for money . Amazing Staff . Staying at the Rudyard Lake Log cabins the Rudyard Lake Hotel was a quick 5min walk. The hotel is in a beautiful setting by the lake and is obviously very popular with local people. The hotel, bar and coffee shop are all very dog friendly and we greatly appreciated being able to sit inside in the bar area with our dog as we visited in a very wet and chilly November. The staff are very friendly, helpful and welcoming to new customers. We thought the prices of the food and drink were very reasonable compared to our own local pub. We had an evening meal and were very impressed by the food. My husband had the Cajun chicken burger and I had the fish pie. Both were presented nicely, good portion sizes, very tasty and served hot ( my pet hate is Luke warm food). We couldn’t fault the hotel at all and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Greeted by very friendly staff on arrival who showed us to our room. Very spacious room for family of four sharing with a double bed, bunk beds and one single. Evening meal was fantastic the only thing to let it down they forgot one of the mains which was a 15 minute delay. Offered a free drink but don’t drink, maybe discount on bill would have been better. Breakfast was beautiful again with professional and friendly staff to greet. Thanks for a wonder stay definitely would stay again. Watch out for the ghouls and ghost chatter in the night.

"The carvery is ok on a Sunday". So we thought, go on then, we'll ignore the reviews and try it on a Wednesday. We shouldn't have.

Lukewarm carvery. One slice of beef which was actually nice and the rest was lukewarm. The mash potato seemed like instant. The drinks order was slow. We had to go to the bar to ask about ordering deserts. The deserts were disappointing. The sticky toffee pudding with custard was cold and the Rudyard mess was a mess, with squirty cream sour fruit and shop bought meringue! Harsh but true.

Went with a friend on a Saturday afternoon for bubbles & brunch in a pod! We had the best day. Jo could not have done more for us, she really is fabulous. Dan on the bar was also amazing. They made us feel really special and the food was delicious. I opted for the BLT & added fries. My friend had the chicken burger, which she said was really tasty. The cocktails were fab and Prosecco really nice. Would highly recommended this experience.

My wife chose this hotel whilst our son was on a residential up the road. We came last week to check it out and had a lovely breakfast outside on the terracing. Tonight, Myself and our daughter came to visit and have a bit of dinner with the wife. Couldn’t believe how somewhere so nice was so quiet. Had a lovely meal, Nice food, well cooked, well presented and amazing only £51 all in. We regularly pay double for worse locally. Staff were lovely, they were having a bit of dinner near us and having a chat themselves which was fine it looked like a shift change over and we were the only ones in there. Such a gem of a place. Trying to find and excuse to visit the wife the next 2 nights now as well.

I came here with my sister and the staff (including the trainee) were absolutely amazing. The food was delicious, spot on and was all made from high quality food. Spectacular views outside and very welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended for a lovely meal out👌

We had a very positive experience. Plenty of staff on duty, all friendly and efficient. Good sized tables, light and clean. Lots of choice on the menu and our meals were good. Waiter/waitress service. Toilets excellent. Didn't look at the Pods but sure they'll be a success.

The first time I went here for breakfast, a few months ago, it arrived after a very long wait and it was virtually cold. It had obviously been left in the kitchen and forgotten about until someone noticed it. Because the other two cafes in Rudyard were closed, and because I was very hungry, and against my better judgement, I thought I'd give them another chance. Mistake. A couple of minor things: got wholemeal bread instead of granary when I'd specifically asked for granary and wasn't asked what sort of coffee I wanted. But hey ho, no drama. However, the sausages were of the cheapest kind it's possible to purchase. They had a horrible plastic skin and the interior was like highly processed dog food. It was like eating a cheap sausage roll wrapped in cling film. But the reason I'm bothering to write this review is the attitude of the member of staff I complained to. She said 'Everyone loves our sausages, I'm sorry that you don't like them.' Her tone implied that it was my fault and that I was being a pain for complaining. She obviously hadn't passed my comments on before she went outside to smoke with her colleague because when I left the guy on the till didn't mention it. A refund or apology would have been in order I feel. All businesses cock up from time to time: IT'S WHAT YOU DO ABOUT IT!

We had a fantastic evening in the new dining pods. Service was fantastic and the steak night was great value. The locally sourced award winning T-Bone steak was perfectly cooked and excellent value. Plenty of room for 6 of us and a really enjoyable evening in a different environment.

Waited over 50 minutes for a breakfast. When I complained, I was advised that it would be another 15 minutes ( which suggests that they hadn't even started ). We left and won't be back. This isn't the first time we have had a long wait. It wasn't at a busy time ( 11am) and there wasn't many other customers.
