For those people who like the pubs of yesteryear, then if your in the area, one to visit. Real old fashioned pub complete with curios to look at, in a setting not seen in the usual mainstream pubs. One to visit and support

Have visited the Yew Tree a few times. It is one of the most fantastic places to enjoy. It is like going back in time! Dan is amazing, his whole character makes the visit worthwhile! Do not miss out - go and see it for yourself. Have a drink and chat.

IGNORE any bad reviews ! We stayed round the back of the pub on hard standing in our camper van for £10 a night. If you LOVE OLD PROPER PUB’S how they should be then look no further. Full of friendly local’s and the landlord Dan…….well, what can we say……he was AMAZING…….so friendly and welcoming, couldn’t do enough for us, he spent time with us and was interested in who we were and what we did. The place is full of antiques and old memorabilia……even has a resident tortoise ! It’s an OLD PUB so don’t expect fancy fixtures and fittings and fancy furniture. If you want that then go to a wine bar ! The toilets are old but they were VERY clean. The place is dog friendly too. We also ate here and food was good and reasonably priced. It’s an OLD TRADITIONAL pub so don’t expect restaurant food……but saying that, don’t leave a bad review because the food wasn’t up to your expectations for a tenner ! THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HOSPITALITY DAN…..we shall be back. We loved it !! James and Shelley x

Words don't even begin to explain how good this pub is! We came as a group of 15 young people and were made to feel nothing but welcome by Dan! He put on pizzas for us and all even catered for the vegan and gluten free members of the group🤩 The pub is so unique with it's antique decor and there's enough things to do to keep you going for the full night- we played the guitar, piano and sang the night away. So so glad we stumbled across this place, somewhere you have got to experience for yourself!! To top it all off there is a pub dog and tortoise!!! Thank you so much again Dan🫶🏻🩷

Two stars is being generous. 1 for the unique pub it was. 1 for the friendly people there. If I could rate it zero for the food, I would. I have never experienced such low quality food. Tastless mashed potatoes, gravy, cheap peas, and a shop bought pie. And to add insult, they charged us £10.00pp and the local dog at my feet while I ate it. The menu here says £7pp. It wasn't worth £3. Drink there if you don't mind sitting in a dirty antique warehouse but otherwise keep driving to find edible food.

A fantastically friendly, warm and unique pub to settle in to. Super dog friendly. Some seasonal drinks and great beers, ales, wines and spirits. Highly recommended.

I’m writing this still in awe of this amazing pub…. Never experienced anything like it in my life. The landlord welcomed 7 of us (3 kids) on short notice. He cooked wonderful food for us all. The beer was sublime. There is a tortoise called Colin, a dog called Maud and an atmosphere that cannot be manufactured. His daughter is wonderful behind the bar and I guarantee you, as long as you are not a snob you will absolutely love this place. My young daughters were still talking about their evening at this old pub the day after!

I had passed the pub a few times and looking at the pub Web Site and reviews it looked as though the simple attractive menu was well received. Today was a bad day to test my interest as the pub was a bit hung over from the previous days Beer Festival. After a bit of deliberation the meal option was ether pie and mash or beef stew, after a fair wait we received our meals. The food was very basic and the bought-in shop pie had been heated in a microwave, the pastry was tough and leathery. Sorry Don, fun drinks pub but not for us.

Really friendly welcome from Landlord Dan, locals and other chatty visiting types. Happy to report the lovely interior hasn’t altered since my last visit about 35 years ago (and it was old then!). Quirky furniture, antiquities, old stockings and motorbikes. Oh and a nice black dog called Maud. Good selection of drinks, well kept beer. I especially liked the blood orange cider. Cracking old pub with a convivial ambience. Area at rear looks perfect for their festivals and events (check out their Facebook page for details). Opens 6pm to midnight during the week and worth a detour for sure!

I stopped going to pubs when they all turned into wine bars full of yuppie wannabes and Laura Ashley curtains. No life no soul just dreamers so to stumble on a place such as the yew tree knocked me for six. It’s a time warp experience full of curiosities and history that will knock you for six . Really took me back to my young adulthood venturing out on my motorcycle on a weekend and calling into a strange pub for a ploughman’s lunch and a shandy. Occasionally you would feel like a fish out of water and gobble it down just to get out the place but not here. The staff and regulars greeted me with smiles and a welcoming curtesy that seems to be lost in modern day life. Will I return? You can bet your life on it, The food looks delicious and my son said it was the best pint of beer he had drunk in a long time.

Just spent tonight at The Yew Tree for Burns night. The food was fantastic, three course meal, cockaleekie soup, haggis, neeps and tatties, followed by cranachan, with a wee dram of whiskey. Dan our host regaled us with Scottish songs, jokes, and banter on Scottish history and a wee jig. Great fun was had by all. Book me in for next year.

What a fantastic original old pub. Its well worth a visit. Great landlord and friendly barman. It's full of interesting memorabilia dating back years even a room full of old motorbikes. Resident tortoise who wanders round greeting all the visitors. Wanted to stay all afternoon but had to drive back to biggin and the fog was getting bad so unfortunately had to make tracks but definitely will return when next in the Peak District.

End of year quiz night with a large group of family and friends. We were made to feel so welcome by the genuinely fabulous staff in this beautiful inn. Fascinating ornaments and curios run through. Located in a very pretty part of the country, it would be a good place to end a walk! Big thank you to Dan and team.

From the warmest of welcomes from Dan and indeed everyone, to a superb well kept pint of beer ( the best I had the whole week a away), to a lovely tasty meal at a fair price. The interior of the pub Charles Dickens would have loved. Full of character and age. In short this pub continues to be one of the VERY best pubs in England. Loved the quirkiness of this traditional pub with its motorbikes and history. Obviously covid forced to restrict access but will be back when opens up properly again good real ale friendly staff and molly the dog.

My husband visited The Yew Tree Inn on his own during our holiday to the Peak District, with their lovely marquee and bar in the garden and loved it. He took our 16 week puppy; both were fully welcomed by the fantastic bar staff and friendly locals.Due to his raving about how amazing it was, I joined him on the following night and loved it. The atmosphere is fantastic and everyone was so welcoming. Our puppy was a bit of a celebrity there. We had a great evening and will definitely return during our next visit to the Peak District.

Took party of 20x members for Sunday lunch.The first meeting since lock down. Could not have gone better. All Mains were of a realy good standard.On our table we all went for the Roast Beef.It was slow roast top side so only one cooking degree available,never the less it was tasty,tender,and moist.Served with Home made yourkshire pudding,proper pan roast potatoes,selection of fresh vegetables,seperate dish of cauliflower cheese and a rich,thick gravey. All served piping hot. Large portions to satisfy any appetite, including 3x lage slices of beef. main course £10-95. Desserts all home made and absoutely amazing.We hade the now famous chocolate fudge cake and the fruit pavlova.Both were big enough for 2x persons but so delicious you wanted it all to yourself. desserts £5-95. All exeptional value for money.Service was also top draw.Thank you all we will return.

En-route to Alton Towers, travelling through the deepest darkest depths of Staffordshire, the Yew Tree had popped upon our radar courtesy of the trusty old Real ale guide. Externally the pub looked shut/ condemned and reminded us of the Fratellis' hideout in the Goonies. Despite our initial misgivings, the Yew Tree was a fascinating mine full of nostalgia and history. Being the long suffering owners of a particularly boisterous and rambunctious toddler, we were concerned about his presence in such a traditional old pub but the Real Ale guide had listed it as being family friendly and sure enough a Buckaroo game was kindly loaned to us by the owner which occupied our boys fleeting attention span for a brief period of time.From the small menu the local dish of staffordshire cheese and tomato oat pancakes stood out was something i was intent on trying. It was fairly unusual and worth trying although as a staunch Yorkshireman; Staffordshire need to raise their game if they are to challenge the champion of regional delicacies that is the Yorkshire Pudding. The Mrs opted for Beef Stew while i had cheese & onion pasty, all of which whch was very tasty and served up alongside mountains of mash and sloppy peas.Overall a great feed for excellent value served out in a traditional pub, full of character the likes of which you rarely encounter these days in this age of brewery owned nationwide chain pubs.

The moment we walked in we were taken back in time, an old worldy pub showcasing antiques and rolling back to the good old pub days - a real gem. Don't be put off by Maudy barking at you, she is a lovely dog. Greeted by the man of the pub, a funny, witty character manages to engage with all the punters at the same time as running an efficient business, with some skill. We were camping down the road so nipped in for a pint with the kids who were made to feel as welcome as us. That impressed we returned the following day for a few more pints and food. The kids remembered but more importantly the landlord remembered their names. Colin the tortoise doesn't do much but the reason behind his name is comical - ask the boss! The food is basic pub grub at a good price, but just the ticket when camping out on a cold night, loved it. Thanks for making us feel so welcome, and thanks for making us laugh...oh and the beer aint half bad too, made in Burton-Upon-Trent...a proper pint!

Absolutely fantastic! The landlord Dean is friendly, hospital and genuinely hilarious. We came for one pint and loved it so much we ended up staying for four next to a roaring fire with friendly locals and fascinating decor with some interesting antiques and curiosities (it’s almost part museum as much as a pub!). If you want a dog friendly local pub with that old fashioned feel pubs used to have, you can’t beat this place. We’ll be back for the festival (and before!).

Great old school Pub. It’s like a museum and a pub. Lovely atmosphere.We were going to Alton towers hotel and Waterpark and wanted to get some food. We much prefer visiting local independent pubs than big chains all the time. The Yew tree inn was a 15min drive away. I’m glad we made a trip, big thanks to Dan and the locals that made our family welcome.We had veggie chilli and good old pie and mash. Lemon drizzle cake and apple pie for pudding. Nice honest food.Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Friendly unique pub, great atmosphere and loads of character with old bar games and antiques. Excellent homemade bar food, pets welcome, definitely worth a visit if your in the area!

Fantastic visit to the Yew Tree tonight, well worth the drive! We had the pleasure of Alan the landlord telling us all about the antiques and history of the pub, he is a really fascinating man. Between the six of us we ordered the Pies, Beef Stew and Chilli - safe to say we were not disappointed! Highly recommend, thank you so much once again we can not wait to return soon.

I had been out mountain biking up in the Peaks, and this was my destination on the way back. After 20+ years I had to go and have another look. And it hasn't changed a bit. Mesmerising, a living museum. The beer ain't bad either.

Having read the reviews on the Yew Tree Inn I was really looking forward to our visit, we weren't disapointed, what a fantastic place this is. The atmosphere was great, we had a good crack with the locals. Dan the landlord had us in stitches, what a genuinely funny guy. We had the pulled pork baps, great value to say the least. We are looking forward to our next visit.

A fantastic little pub in a great location. They serve a good range of beers and cider and the bar snacks are excellent.

The pub let us park our motorhome overnight which was great -and were happy that the dog came in with us.

We were staying nearby and visited the weekend just gone as 3 families. The pub is superb, we spent the Saturday drinking in the garden outside and the Sunday eating from the pie menu. Great time had by all and Dan made us all feel very welcome and was excellent with the kids. He even played us a tune on the pianola. Brilliant weekend.

I’m trying to think of positives for this pub: it is obviously old and full of antiques and memorabilia, but sitting there looking around, it felt dusty and unclean. The walls are or appear to be filthy, there are holes in the wall where plaster’s dropped off and just generally an unwelcoming atmosphere.

Discovered this fantastic pub whilst staying for the weekend in Waterhouses and all agreed that it was somewhere we wanted to visit. We weren’t disappointed.

Really quaint old pub full of interesting stuff, motorbikes, clocks, brass instruments and the like. This place is a one off and well worth going out of your way to pay a visit.

We met our son on the Roaches and after a lovely walk drove past the end of the road to Cauldon and decided to check the Yew Tree to see if it had changed. Forty years ago living in Stoke it had been a regular haunt and we remembered the two old ladies behind the bar then.

We visited this pub about 16 years ago and had forgotten about it until yesterday. I knew the landlord at the time was a huge collector of antiques and curiosities and didn’t expect him still to be working or the pub to be open. It is! As I understand he is still alive and the pub run by family and what a fabulous, unique place it is. An absolute gem. We didn’t eat but it is clearly dog friendly and we did have our daughter with us and we and another family were cheerily directed to the best place to sit.

Living locally my husband had visited this pub on his own and was made to feel very welcome ! It was however a very different story when we decided to return as a family ! The pub was holding a 1940’s weekend and and we braved the awful weather to support the event. When we arrived as a family of 3 it was obvious the moment we walked through the door that we were not welcome. The man behind the bar visually profiled us for at least 30 seconds before he made eye contact and spoke to us. The first words out of his mouth were well children are not normally allowed In the bar, pointing towards a small area that was labelled children’s area this area was however full of adults and there was no available space. He did say that we were able to sit in a small area beyond the bar but it couldn’t have been made clearer that we were not welcome ! The barman then proceeded to serve another gentleman who had entered the pub after us even though my husband was waiting to be served at the bar ! At this point we left ! It’s such a shame as It’s a lovely location but we were made to feel totally inferior for daring to have a child with us !

Having heard about The Yew Tree Inn less than a week ago, my business partner (who had only just travelled up from Sussex by train for a meeting that afternoon) and I made a special 20-mile detour to the pub for our evening meal. We arrived just after 6pm when there was just a handful of locals sat around the bar. My business partner offered to get the drinks in and he tried to make polite conversation with the barman (Alan), only to be told "I'm here to serve drinks, not chat.. there are other people waiting, what do you want?". The other person being another local man. When I asked for a pint of Shandy Bass, I was abruptly told "we don't serve Bass, haven't done for years". The reason I asked was because there's a huge Bass logo painted on the outside of the pub overlooking the car park. We then tried to place a food order, only for Alan to rudely say that he doesn't take the food orders and we'd have to see someone else.. even though he was the only member of staff present. Eventually a friendly lady took our food order, although when it arrived, the food (pie/pasty, mash, peas and gravy) was distinctly average but for £7 per meal, it was satisfactory. As a business owner myself, I know the importance of dealing with people from all walks of life in a polite and friendly manner. I did try and engage Alan in conversation a bit later on (he gave the impression he was the landlord ("this being his third pub and him having been in the licensed trade for 58 years") but it was clear he'd rather be chatting to the regulars. If I'd had a Plan B and not been up since 5am, I would have suggested we go elsewhere based on the inhospitable welcome and now wish I'd read Gary B's review on this page from March 2018. Despite the landlord Dan's reply about making sure Alan doesn't serve unsupervised, nothing has changed a year on. All in all, hugely disappointing and a place that's best left to the regulars. We won't be returning.. sorry!

I've been meaning to write this for a while, I just haven't got round to it. My boyfriend knew about this gem of a pub and we decided to take a detour on our way down to Leek. We were all welcomed by Alan, Dan and the lovely dog. We stayed for 2 pints and reluctantly had to get back on the road. My brother really enjoyed talking to Dan about his trip to Spain. I highly recommend this place. The food looked great too so much so we are already planning our next trip out that way so we can go back and enjoy a great pub lunch too. A pub set in beautiful countryside. Parking available, brilliant food, wonderful locals, a pub manager who has been there forever and loads and loads of STUFF...pianolas, antiques of all types and queen Victoria stockings...framed. What more could you want.

After a long day of walking on a cold October day this was exactly what we needed. A warm welcome for us and our little dog Ralph, delicious home cooked pie and mash with loads of gravy, great atmosphere and very quirky decor.

I visited this pub this evening to get a bite to eat. What a fascinating place this is full of interesting artefacts collected by the owner over his 57 years in charge. He himself is a very amiable and affable landlord who made us feel very welcome. The menu is small and basic but uses local produce or is home made and all very very tasty indeed. The chef is very friendly and clearly passionate about her homemade produce. The only disappointment for me is that I am not local so it is a long way for me a make a return visit. It was a great experience that will be etched in my memory.

We are a family of 5 and loved the unique atmosphere of this pub. On a Sunday afternoon it was lively and warm. The pub owner is exceptionally friendly and food was served within 20 minutes. Food menu consists of pies and stews at very good value and good sized portions- perfect with a beer. Exactly what you want after a walk in the Peak District.

We are staying at a camping site close by googled pubs and this one came up. It is fantastic Alan behi D the bar was a true gent and I think he has been there for ever, the waitress was first class, chaty, polite attentive informative and she gave the impression she genuinely enjoyed working there. There is so much to see in the pub you could spend hours in it. The food menu is limited with home made pies, chilli and some other choices but is is fantastic value for your money. Beers are well kept and double GnT doesn't require me to remortgage my home. A must see pub. We will make it our holiday local. We'll done landlord and landlady..

we were looking for somewhere to eat lunch, we came across this beauty in middle of nowhere.

Received a local newspaper and saw the ad for Music and beer festival at the Yew tree and decided to give it a go.

We went to Yewstock Festival at the pub this year and it was so much fun! The atmosphere was super relaxed and friendly. Loads of space for the kids to run around. The 2 stages alternated so there was barely a moment without music. The pub is so old and historical and has loads of interesting items - like a museum! Amazing choice of ales and ciders. Will definitely be going to the festival again next year and will also visit the pub again before then!

Stopped for lunch on the way to Liverpool. Good beer, try the oatcakes different but nice. Very good value for money. Landlord very friendly.

If your ever in the Peak District, do call in at this pub. This is a true olde world pub/museum that should be preserved in a time capsule. Where in the world would you find a pair of Queen Victoria’s stockings? Together with old penny machines (1d not 1p) you are in some sort of time warp, it is a bit of a quirky pub that serves good ales ( not many), very good pie meals, ploughmans, etc.

Visited Bank Holiday Monday with our two dogs. Enjoyed excellent sausage roll and looking at the marvellous collection of ornaments and curiosities 😊

We were a bit concerned about Alan after reading the review below, so was pleasantly surprised when he was most welcoming,sociable and said cheerio when we left. The pub itself was most interesting with its array of memorabilia and the locals included us in there conversations. A very memorable evening.

Well this has to be the uk's worst welcoming landlord. When we arrived i was at the bar and the landlord came over. I said "alright mate hows things?" To which he replied "i am not here to socialize, i am here to serve drink, what do you want ?"

I wanted to visit the yew tree for a while since I seen the salvage hunters episode a few months back , Alan (the older gentleman) made us very welcome and we sat and had a good chat and sampled his pie n mash, hope to revisit during the summer.

Thankyou to Landlord Dan and Alan, family and friends who made us so welcome on New Years Eve. We had a great night with folk music, singing, playing musical instruments, everyone could join in. We stayed in the caravan in the field next door which was lovely and cosy, complete with fairy lights. What a crackin’ New Years Eve! thank you! :)

Stayed overnight in motorhome .Landlord very helpful .Very quirky pub full of interesting antiques .Owner very knowledgeable about all the antiques as he fas purchased most of them over many years he as been there. My friends and I visited lunch time and loved the quirky charm of this old pub. No sign of trendy decor here. Log fires, great beer and a friendly atmosphere puts this pub on the top of my list. I will be back.

So.... another local Inn that we have not visited for quite a while. Mr East, the owner for 53 years still holds court behind the bar surrounded by a museum of memorabilia from years gone by. Food offering is very very simple .... but very very good!! Pie, mash, peas and gravy... yummy!! Guest beers. Well worth a visit just for the wonderful experience. I plan to visit again very soon.

We had planned to called into this unique pub following a quick Friday drive out into the Peaks. As always it's like a magical time warp, half museum half pub. But the pub is excellent, with a selection of real ales they have locally made pork pies for sale on the bar and pickled eggs, it's that type of pub. I thought I might be charged in £sd (pre decimal currency)We decided to sample some food, the pub has plenty of seating inside. The menu wasn't extensive and it wasn't posh nosh, however the locally made pies were super with real mash (I hate it when for ease you get rehydration mash) and either garden or mushy peas and tasty gravy. The staff were all friendly and you'd be assured some good banter and tales in the bar. I would recommend this pub for both its beer and food which are both in character to it's time warp status.

So my wife, aunt and mother all went to Chatsworth for the day leaving my Uncle, my Dad and myself at a loss of what to do. Someone suggested we go to the pub and I reluctantly agreed. My Uncle being local suggested the Yew Tree Inn and after a fab trip there in a classic Land Rover, we arrived at the pub.1) The building.You will not be short of conversation, if there is a lull in the chat, go for a mooch around and have a look at some of the furniture or the other antiques. If you get a chance, ask Alan the landlord where he got the items, each one has a story and Alan is only too pleased to tell you.2) The staff.When you go to a big company and they say, "Have you got everything you want today?"You know it's what they have to say, there is none of this false friendliness at the Yew Tree. All the staff are polite and friendly, they are chatty and helpful and above all, they are sincere. 3) The food.So there is a limited menu, maybe 10 or 12 things on it. But you will not be disappointed by whatever you choose. All of the pies are homemade on site, beautiful crust, great fillings, mash and peas with super gravy.We also tried the chilli, the oatcakes and the pasties and all were excellent. Portion size was perfect for lunchtime and the prices are fairSo here is the rub, We enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere so much yesterday that we went back today for lunch with our wives/Mother/Aunt. Same pub, twice in two days. The ladies were all impressed by the venue, the food and the ambience. There can be no greater recommendation than that.

This has to be the most interesting pub I have been in for ages!!! The landlord has been in this pub for 56 years and has some fantastic tales to tell. The beer is great. the pies are so lovely - get in on a Saturday or Sunday for a pork pie they are fab. The antiques are so amazing from furniture to Queen Vic's stockings!! This pub is a MUST if you are in the area.

You either love it or hate it! This is a wonderful old, proper pub and should never be updated. Unfortunately we visited during a folk festival and we just wanted a pint and a snack. However we got two good pints and excellent pork pies, all the other food was outside in the festival which we did not visit (£6 to get in). The pub is full of character and really friendly locals. Atmosphere was great and also busy because of the festival, we made time for bar skittles and chatted to a few locals. We left happy and a smile on our faces, vowing to return at the earliest opportunity. Please visit to keep this place going, it must not die!

Was driving a coach for a hen do and after visiting several on the way to 'get warmed up' I delivered the ladies here for their pre-booked meal.Utterly fascinating inside - with absolutely no sense of anything being in a rush and every conceivable wall and room is crammed with an incredible array of antique items that could have kept me amused for hours.The complimentary coffee for the driver was much appreciated and I'm pretty sure I'll go pay a visit as a patron some time soon.

This hostelry is liked walking back in time.It is in the literal sense ,a living operating museum.Drinks are priced fairly ,but it takes a special kind of punter to find this place interesting.I did.This is not the place for the uppercrust.

Recommended by Lorraine at Rue Hill camping. Menu consists of various pies, mash and mushy peas (or stew or chilli) £7 - fabulous. Tiny place so full of character and characters- loads of antique curios and had a lovely chat with octogenarian owner who still runs the bar. Sat outside playing cards and chatted to manager (who's in charge of taking card payments later in evening). Everyone so friendly. We all ate every mouthful of those pies - I am now a mushy pea convert, the youngest loved the mash AND the gravy ( which he never eats at home) and my wife quite rightly described it as "the best pub meal I've ever had") Family of 4, 4 meals, 2 drinks each £34!! Can't say fairer than that!Simple, charming and how it should be!

This place is simply unique, fascinating and like stepping back in time. More than worth a maybe visit, its a MUST. The simple food menu is also excellent in every way , the pies (real pies that is) are possibly some of the best pies I've ever tasted, simply but very pleasantly presented. Hospitality is excellent staff are friendly and Alan the landlord (age 83) has been there for 56 years is a gem of character in himself and a mine of information about his collection of bygone days antiquities. It would be a tragedy if this place were to ever close or be dragged into the 18th, 19th, 20th or 21st century. I can't think of any English pub I've been in that even comes close to this for originality authenticity. If you visit..don't forget to check in and spread the word, even the WiFi code is quaintly presented with a reticent thud, and A SMILE.

Visited the Yew Tree Inn just for a drink and was absolutely blown away by by this place. It really is like stepping back in time with the collection of antiques that the landlord has built up over the years. The welcome was warm and friendly, the beer was great. This pub needs to be preserved just as it is for future generations to enjoy!

My wife and I called in for a light lunch and we were extremely impressed with the friendly welcome and fascinating decorations and content of the pub.A previous review stated that it was like having a pint in a museum and it's about right.The lunch itself was simple but tasty, and to try to introduce anything more complex or fancy would spoil the authentic experience of the visit.We will certainly call again.

Called in for a few drinks Alston night and was delighted to find such a treasure of a pub. The staff were very friendly and our dog was warmly welcomed. There is so much character in this pub and to be honest I don't recall being in one better. The only slight negative was the price they charged for soda when we went back for our car today. My wife wanted a pint of blackcurrant and soda and when I questioned the £2.80 price the owner said it's 60p with water or an extra £2.20 with soda. I did think this was a bit steep.

Quirky pub, which you can lose a good hour or so looking through the collection kept within the walls. The beer is well kept as well.We didn't eat in the pub, but they were selling pork pies which looked good. You need to go to this place if you are in the area as it is a one-off. Well done!

What an amazing place the Yew Tree is .. Dan is the most wonderful , funny landlord who makes you feel like you've just come "home" the pie and mash is the best comfort food whilst sitting in a real museum of oldy worldy antiques .. it's like walking into a magical time machine in which you never want to leave .. A MUST for any traveller or local in the area

Whilst cycling in the area, stopped for a well earned drink and rest. It is certainly rather unusual being rather pokey & dark and full of ancient collectable including several cycles. Fairly limited menu, but pies , mash & peas hit the spot.Might not appeal to everyone, but worth a visit.

A group of nine of us went to The Yew Tree for a pint and an afternoon snack. The person who normally prepares food was not at work when we arrived, but the very friendly landlord and his dog Blossom made us very welcome and found us a couple of pork pies to share. This pub is a living museum, having all sorts of historical artefacts to look at and reminisce over whilst you enjoy your very well kept real ale.

Fantastic old pub. Good food and beer. Landlord friendly and dog friendly. Well worth a visit. If you like old pubs and a friendly welcome,this cannot be beaten.

This pub is a little gem, tucked away in the Derbyshire Peak District. As the name suggests it has a large Yew Tree in front of the pub entrance. Inside it has a friendly atmosphere and tables tucked away in the 'nooks and crannies' of a typical village pub. The plenty of beers to choose from and food if you want it. There is a very querky piano in one part of the bar which plays tunes from a 'paper reel' by pumping the foot pedals?!? Ideal for a group sing-song.

Fantastic quirky place for a drink and good pub grub. Owners and staff are so friendly. Made us feel so welcome. Quirky antiques in every room. Really good pints and lovely food. We gad an amazing time here. Cannot recommend this place enough. See you in July.

This place was quirky and cool. Bursting with antiques and memorabilia from the past. It even has the little dog blossom that alerts the landlord to new customers. The fireworks and bonfire was fantastic with an outside bar and pie and peas Hut. Love places like this!

We went here on Guy Fawkes night and had a great outdoor catered chilli which was delicious, mulled wine was fabulous. Fireworks were a treat and setting was brilliant. Thanks Dan.

An amazing little pub full of truly brilliant antiques. I spent the first 30 minutes just wandering from room to room and admiring them.

Truly a unique hostelry packed with antiques and bric a brac. Some of the customer seating would make an antique dealer envious!. Dog friendly, excellent ales and very welcoming staff - what's not to like. Must be 5 stars

We received the most warmest of welcomes, it was a real gem with so much to admire a remarkable discovery for us and one place we will definitely return to. Thanks for a lovely afternoon, the BSA A7 enjoyed the stop but not half as much as we did. Ignore the past comments from the Norwich crowd if they cannot appreciate what you have on offer I suggest they go to Ibiza which will probably suit their lower class needs and I wonder what would be the response if they asked for several tasters in M&S, I guess they would end up at the local chippy without their posh fish! Your antiques are amazing so don't change a thing, see you all next year.

This is by far the most exceptional public house I have had the pleasure of visiting .Dan and his staff clearly have a passion for delivering exceptional customer service .This is a village pub that punches above its weight ,it delivers everything you would expect from an historical inn ,a superb choice of real ales and fine wines and good old fashioned pub grub .The menu isn't too big or confusing which was good ..simple and hearty food .The pub really is a little treasure trove and antiquities and don't be afraid to ask questions about any of the curios .This place really does excel in the quality ,creativity and humorous customer service .Thank you for going that extra mile to make us all feel welcome and at home .

We visited this place because it was listed in the 'Good beer guide'. I do like quirky pubs and this seemed to fit the bill all right. Outside it looks quite old and uninviting with a small car park and there was some deliberation as to where the entrance was. Inside, is something else. It's dark, and it is full of antiques. It appears that the landlord collects these old gems and crams them in all over his pub. It isn't a spacious pub so I imagine it would become awkward to manoeuvre about if there were lots of people in there.At the time of our visit, there were three ales available, two on hand pumps and one out the back in a cask. The landlord appeared reluctant to let us have a small taste of the ales, but in the end he let us taste one, which was terrible despite him saying "oh they're lovely, you'll like them all". Because the first ale was so awful we asked for a taste of the cask mild and he refused. "I'm not going backward and forward just for a tasting". How rude! There were two other people in the whole pub, no one else so he was hardly rushed off his feet. So my friends all had halves and I had an orange juice. My friends tasted their beer, pulled a pained face then went outside and poured their beer away. Just to be clear, the beer wasn't off, just not to our taste and had we been given the chance to taste them, as most pubs do these days, we wouldn't have wasted our time and money. We wouldn't have been writing a review like this either. We found the landlord quite rude. We initially intended to eat there but the pub did not look conducive for dining. It was dark, appeared not very clean and smelled musty. So we left. Sorry but we'll be giving this one a definite miss in future.

Home-made steak and ale pie, mash and mushy peas with lashings of gravy and a good pint. Friendly landlord and regulars. What more do you need!

Quite literally, step back in time. Don't go if you want modern facilities, wine lists, children's playground or any of the trappings of a gastropub. Go for the perfectly preserved spit and sawdust pub of eighty years ago, go for the beer, the curios and the wonderful Alan, who took time out last night to chat to us about his collection and was just lovely. As much of a national treasure as the pub! This really is a special place and I hope it stays that way.

A must see unique hostelry - not for the Michelin stalwarts amongst you, but for a real taste of old England. Simple fayre, good beer and the amazing collection of antiques will keep you busy for hours. Ask Dan to get the pianola going - lots of opportunity for a good old singalong!
