We came to the abbey twice in December and on each occasion we had excellent food and great service. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. I find the menu a little restricted, but having said that there was some good options for everyone in our party. Will we eat at the abbey again...... certainly. A hidden gem.

Having searched for a decent sounding place from very many researched reviews I decided on Abbey Inn. And a great decision it was too. Arrived with my grandson, son and wife for lunch and was immediately impressed with the look of the place from the car park. We all ate from the specials board. My fish & chips were outstanding - the lightness of the batter could not be bettered, genius. My son & my wife had the “highly recommended” (by one of the locals) steak pie - high quality old fashioned suet top. “Amazing” - their words.

Group of 8 of us have had a fantastic Sunday dinner. Whether it was the specials Fish n Chips or the Beef or Chicken Sunday Roast it was absolutely delicious. The beef was so tender, the cauliflower cheese was tasty and the roasties and Yorkshire pudding was superb. The fish and chips were described as the best ever., service was perfect with friendly staff who were very attentive. The starters were a good portion size as well. And puddings were delicious.

On Sunday I visited the Abbey Inn, in Leek for our Sunday roast, I am not complaining of the food it was the attitude of the land lord. It was a very cold day my friend as been very poorly we was given a table that I had Pre booked. We said it was cold as he had opened the front door so where was a through draft. This he did not like he started to shout at me over the bar saying he had heat on, well I said you are letting the heat out. He then started shouting at the young girl who was serving drinks he was pointing his finger in her face. She moved away he kept following her still shouting at he. She broke down his wife came out to her. He then went in the kitchen started again all in the pub could here. His attitude was awful even started on us again as we was leaving.the most awful man I have ever had the misfortune to meet. Will never go again to the Abbey Inn he dose not deserve customers.I just hope the young girl is ok she was doing all the work, he the landlord just walking around trying look busy. Glasses pulling up he had one girl serving food then shouting at her clear the glasses away. Is he work shy.

Every Saturday evening me my wife and some friends attend local pubs a an evening meal. This time we thought we would give The Abbey Inn another try.The pub is very old and in nice in a great location. We found the that the service was excellent and very clean with friendly staff. Unfortunately we found the food quite expensive compared to other local pubs. £17 for steak where they served tasteless frozen chips. Aunt Bessie would be proud of them. My wife had plaice which was still frozen in the corner of the fish. The portions were average compared to other pubs. When we arrived the place was completely empty, now I know why. It does not need to be like this, what a waste of a potentially great pub.

Starters were good home made pate, soup etc. I ordered chicken and mushroom pie this consisted of what appeared to be the pickings from the chicken carcass with tinned mushrooms and just gravy, the topping was a thick stodgy pastry with herbs. Despite much wailing and moaning from the kids about eating Christmas dinner with ‘strangers’ we completely ignored them (as they are 20 and 23 now!) and booked in to the Abbey Inn. Admittedly it wasn’t our first choice but most other local places were fully booked and their menu seemed to offer more than just the usual Christmas fare and seemed better value for money. There was one table of diners which were eating and the rest of the place was empty, which I suppose told us something. Upon entering, I would not say we were greeted by the owner as he looked as miserable as sin. If he is to serve behind the bar he needs to be jovial and friendly. We did not get this which was offputting. Despite this we ordered drinks. The bar has been decorated but still needs that finishing touch. It is very much lacking in atmosphere and warmth. Looking at the other reviews I can only think that they do not get out much or are very easy to please, Its a shame as we will not be returning and will go elsewhere, where there are plenty of other places in the area which treat you like customers and are happy to greet us with a smile. The owner introduced himself and then WOW. Service was amazing, good selection of drinks, and a super menu. The selection on the menu was not massive but there was a good selection, this is a good thing for a restaurant as you know the meals are cooked fresh and does not put pressure on the kitchen so because of this each meal were presented beautifully and tasted amazing. My wife and I visited The Abbey Inn after it had been recently taken over. The food menu is limited (which is a good thing) and excellent quality at a reasonable price. We can both heartily recommend the lemon meringue pie as a sweet! The landlord and staff couldn't be more helpful.

1st visit here, charming country pub, management and staff seem friendly on entrance , and was quickly shown on booked table , meals were average, fairly consistent service until 3rd course which service seem to have stalled, other than notice management staff a little disorganised really, but was OK for a pub meals average

I visited here on the weekend as my partner and I were walking on the edge of the Peak District. This is such a gorgeous pub! It's in a stunning location and the gentleman that was running it was a true Gent. We stayed for drinks but the smelled delicious. A lady also came round and offered everyone a roast potato which was such a great touch on a Sunday! I would strongly recommend this pub and we will definitely be back!

Sunday evening meal around 6pm, the place was very quiet although they had sold out of a special so must have been busy in the day. The menu is small but varried with veggie options and the specials selection a nice addition. The food was yummy, the hosts were friendly - what more do you want! I can't understand why this place isn't busier. My only critisism; the menu appears to be mostly homemade food but the chips certainly were not! They were a bit tasteless.

Situated in this historic valley of 'Dieu L' Acres' (God's Acres) where once an important abbey stood is The Abbey Inn in all it's glory on the North bank, refreshingly hewn out of red sandstone instead of the usual Millstone Grit which this area is known for.

Never been before but decided to try at teatime on Bank Holiday Monday. Beautiful frontage to the old building. Host very accommodating and pleasant. Menu limited but very reasonable. Lasagne was hot and tasty. Good value home made. Enjoyed the meal. Wines and drinks reasonable. Homely welcoming place.

My wife, teenage son and I had a delicious meal on Thursday, beautifully prepared from quality local ingredients. My rump steak was gorgeous and from a known local farm.

Warm welcome here. Owners accommodated our moho on the car park. Slight slope but the owners would have been happy for us to park on a flatter area in front of their house.

We're quite particular about good, honest, wholesome fresh food and hit the jackpot at The Abbey Inn. My husband had the roast beef Sunday lunch and I had a vegetarian burger , the best I've ever had. We each had a good plateful with delicious vegetables. We received a warm welcome from our hosts who were very hospitable. The interior of this historic inn, built in the early eighteenth century , is traditional and friendly. The other families and friends drinking and dining were clearly enjoying their visit as much as we were. The rural setting of the inn near Leek is picturesque, Abbey Green being quite ancient, at one time the site of a Cistercian abbey. We did a circular walk prior to eating, there is a footpath from the door across rolling pastureland with magnificent views all around and over to Tittesworth Reservoir and The Roaches. We ate at around 3.00pm which was ideal. The inn has a large car park. Thanks to the management for catering for those of us who don't want to eat between midday and 2.00pm. We'll recommend to friends and return ourselves. A great first visit.

What a lovely surprise this turned out to be. The staff greeted us warmly, the Bistro had a lovely calming ambiance and the food was freshly made on the premises. We had a very pleasant few hours and will definitely return to enjoy the other delights on the menu, at very reasonable prices. Fish and chips Friday is first on our hit list!!
