Rose and Crown in Staffordshire Moorlands

I've had two very good lunchtime meals recently. Firstly in late September I had lobby and a bowl of chips. The lobby was a generous portion with good meat content and tasted very nice. It came with bread & butter. The chips were crsipy and tasted great and also a large portion in a bowl. This meal was very filling and I left with a full tum. Good value for money! Then, on the next occasion, I had steak & ale pie, chips and veg and asked for extra gravy. This meal was also a very generous portion size and delicious. The pie had lots of meat filling, the veg was plentiful and the chips were superb. Also the extra gravy (included in the price) tasted great and the meal was priced very reasonably. I was also very full afterwards! But I believe in leaving clean plates when the food is so Good!! What more could you ask for?

Fantastic meal great Atmosphere staff very attentive food came all at once drinks 🍷 on tap thankyou for a lovely meal . Only issue was the other table from us was so impatient and even moaned about how much water was in a glass ?????

Visited the Rose and Crown for a family special birthday celebration. There were 30 people in the party so food had been pre-ordered. The food was excellent and the waiting staff provided a first class service with every ones meal choice arriving hot. With the weather being so nice and warm, also no doubt due to the number in our party, we virtually had the restaurant and outside terrace to ourselves. There was also live entertainment in the bar, good selection of draught beers and a great atmosphere. Will definitely be visiting again soon.

Visited a couple of weeks ago!! Wanted a cute little pub to visit and have some home style food and that’s exactly what we got! Absolutely beautiful food!! Service was brilliant and the views were amazing too! Didn’t expect the amount of food we got though! But not complaining at all!

Update: Not Quite Perfect Meal I had the Cottage Pie, chips and veg with a small jug of gravy on Wed 22 May 2024. Cottage Pie tasted good but was a SMALLER portion this time as it did not come in it's own ceramic dish and was just a loose small portion. Chips were really great, as was the veg. The gravy tasted superb. The whole dish was beautifully cooked and nice and hot, just could have done with a bigger portion of the Cottage Pie and it would have been perfect!

I can't put in word what a fantastic place this is, we went today 22nd may 2024 to celebrate a 50th birthday, the staff were fantastic nothing was to much trouble, the service we got was outstanding, big thank you to all staff we will definitely be returning 😀 😊

We visit Ego quite often and have always had a good meal, I usually order a Rum Steak. This time the Rum Steak I had was rather tough, I left most of it. I mentioned my obversions to the waiter who politely said the she would inform the chef. this won't hinder our feelings for returning again but I'll try a different item from the menu. My wife however was delighted with her meal selection.

I've just eaten the best chicken and ham pie ever!! 🥧 absolutely delicious, and the bonus is hand cut 'really chips' 10 out of 10

Was a funeral so atmos was as funerals are ...bar service could have been better 1 barmaid with 70 ppl arriving wasnt good ..needed at least 2 on for our arrival ...buffet was excellent

Staff very friendly. Stayed here with my dog in my campervan. Really quiet at night ideally for a good night's sleep Food fantastic and has real ales. Will definitely be back if in the area.

Highly recommended the offer on a Tuesday 2 mixed grills for £22 the portion size was ample couldn't eat it all.

6 of us had 4 different meals and they were all very nice. Good service from the young lady serving the tables. We will be there again.

Me and my wife popped in to the Rose and Crown yesterday following a walk with the kids. The staff placed us in the new restaurant area which we appreciated as it was much quieter than the front part with having a sleeping baby. The restaurant looks great having recently been refurbished to a modern standard. The food is to die for and is very well priced considering the size of the portion. The staff were very friendly and efficient ! Thank you, we will definitely return

Went for a family meal midweek. Welcomed on arrival and shown to.our table. Drinks and food orders efficiently taken. Food arrived and it was lovely. Some ordered smaller portions which were still more than enough. The food and service were excellent. We will definitely be back

We always have a great time at the Rose and crown, whether it’s for a quick drink, a meal or a celebration! The food is excellent value for money and the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. We’ve enjoyed a fantastic firework display last year and even had breakfast with Santa! There is always lots of family friendly events to enjoy throughout the year. We visited for our Christmas gathering of family and friends. We all chose from the Christmas menu. It was delicious. The food was all good quality ingredients, cooked to perfection. Can’t rate the food at the Rose and Crown high enough for the cost. Really top notch quality for the cost. I had the large fish and chips, the wife had the small and the daughter small gammon, egg, pineapple and chips. All of the special menu. 3 plates, 3drinks, £45….bargain!

Our first visit to the Rose, yesterday lunch time. Nice choice of food, with the extra bonus of a specials menu. We had the meat and potato pie and baked potato with chicken tikka and salad. The portion sizes are generous, and I could not help noticing the table next to with a lite bite?? turkey baggette. That looked like something I could try next time. Both our meals were good. but the star was the homemade curry. So good we had a takeaway to eat the next day. Will be returning and thanks to the friendly staff for making our visit so enjoyable.

I've been coming to this pub for food for a number of years and had great food. However, the last two lunchtime meals were on the disappointing side and no better than average. The steak and ale pie had hardly any meat in it but everything else was okay. Then, the scampi had no scampi in it. The inside of the scampi pieces was just a small amount of mush and no juicy scampi!!! That, I'm afraid, means the scampi was cheap and not good quality. The accompanying chips on this occasion were not as good as they normally are and were rather tasteless. Love this pub, but the jury is out on the recent and current food offering.

I went yesterday for lunch with relatives great service staff very friendly & helpful. It is great dogs welcome plenty of parking would highly recommend it.

We visited the Rose and Crown on the recommendation of others. I’m sad to say the food was well below expectations. Our starters were reasonably warm and quite tasty but nothing special however the mains were just about adequate. Food was not hot, all the meat tasted like it had sat under a warmer for hours irrespective of the dish as it was hard and dry. The chips were refried and mostly hard and the onion rings were greasy. It was edible just so we ate it and vowed not to return. Shame really as it’s a pleasant pub.

Food was average nothing to scream about. Not served hot which was disappointing chips were Really tasty but ordered the sliders which were bland. Won’t be rushing back in a hurry

We visit on saturday afternoon.Very smart well laid out pub. I love steaks and burgers. If I had to eat steak every meal for the rest of my life I would not be devastated. Whilst I began to think the wait for the food was slightly long I understood why when it arrived. The nicest steak I've ever had. I'm 37 and I love steaks to put that in perspective. My grilled fillet tasted unlike anything I've had before.... The grilled taste was superb. This was along with extremely nice tomatoes,mushrooms,salad,onion rings and chips. I savoured my steak from start to finish and have never wanted to pass on my appreciation to the chef because of their steak before. (unless the chef is the Mrs and you pretty much have to)

Awful food, so bad could'nt eat it. The young lady who served me said she would get the chef to come and see me. He never came and the plate of uneaten food was still on the table an hour later. No appology and not offered an alternative. A young girls party taking place in the back room with lots of girls, many of school age circulating scantily dressed, skirts, dresses barely covering their bottom. The gents toilet was blocked and almost overflowing onto the floor. Not the best Saturday night i have ever had.

Friendly staff, who always make us feel really welcome. Dog friendly too. We had the gammon, cannelloni and pie. Lots of it and all very tasty. Drinks are priced reasonably and if you are a gin drinker they have a great selection. Definitely worth a visit.

Lovely warm welcome when entering the pub ..we were shown to our table and we ordered our drinks from the very polite young lady.. For the meal, I had the steak and ale pie my husband had the steak, which was cooked very well has he as it rare..my pie was delicious. Both orders came with home made chips which are fabulous and cabbage. Cauliflower and broccoli which are my favourite veg..👍 All the staff we met where friendly and helpful.. Definitely be going again And will be telling everyone to go.. Brilliant

My husband and I have been coming to the rose and crown on a Sunday for a few months now. The food is plentiful and tasty ..The staff are friendly and accommodating. We have no hesitation of recommending this pub for value for money and getting a great home cooked meal.

Thr tomato soup and trio of icecreams were delicious. Not particularly keen on the double cooked chips. I left them.

Recently visited as a family of 6 and we were all honestly blown away. Food was perfect & generous portions, staff were friendly and provided top service. Would highly recommend and most definitely return 👌

Disappointing.. Looking forward to a family meal out but there were a number of dishes not available, was told my dish wasn’t available but then did arrive, It was a Saturday evening, which should be one of the busiest days of the week, so why is so much not available?? Not a very good 1st impression!! The main meals that we had were ok, had to ask for the side order to be brought out though. Deserts ok, did order ice cream with the desert but ended up with cream instead. It was rectified though. Unfortunately wouldn’t recommend and wont be returning and no offer of recompense, i.e drinks, deserts etc. Again, a disappointing 1st impression. No wonder the restaurant was empty at 8.30pm on a Saturday evening. Serving staff very apologetic and service was good.

We stayed in a cottage up the road and there was a 10% off voucher so decided to give the place a try. Great atmosphere but the food was appalling. I had a roast dinner I didn't even try the meat it was full of fat and rubbery so went straight to the dogs. The Yorkshire pudding was dry and looked about a week old. The cabbage had a brown dry edge to it, and the carrots tasted like they had vinegar in them. Husband had sausage swirl and swapped mash for chips. He said the chips were really greasy and not the best. We may have just been unlucky. Fortunately it was just a weekend away so won't be going back.

While staying at our holiday cottage in Houghwood Lane we visited the rose and crown twice and both occasions the meal was delicious and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. Will definitely return when we holiday here again.

On entry to the venue we were greeted by a gentleman with a cigarette behind his ear who took our drinks order and then said one of the waitresses would show us to our table. Then as we were all seated the starters came out and was not bad just could of done with more flavour I felt. Then this is where it all went down hill the mains came to our table where we find not one hair in a meal but 5 hairs in 3 different meals which 1 hair you in a meal isn’t ok but will let slide but in 3 meals is down right barbaric. Which the waitresses were informed which couldn’t do enough for us a massive pat on the back for them. So in my experience in hospitality hair nets would be a massive plus for the staff handling or preparing food

We had a late booking for Sunday lunch. 2 of us ordered the roast dinner, 1 had the meat and potato pie, 1 lasagne and the next the 3 sliders. All 3 meals came piping hot, generous servings and delicious. Reasonably priced too, We all had a very enjoyable lunch. The waitresses were polite, friendly and efficient. We will definitely return even the view was great.

Really friendly welcome for my dog: Daisy. My sister & I dropped in for Sunday lunch and were served a delicious meal. Fine range of ales & drinks. A well run pub which keeps the locals entertained. Regulars who obviously enjoy the pub's atmosphere and are happy to share this friendliness with Johnny come lately's like me! We shall return.
