fabulous local pub. lovely food the hanging kebabs are delicious, steak night is well worth a visit as is Sunday lunch. Some good entertainment on on occasion great place 😍

My partner and I chose to dine at The Red Lion on a Tuesday evening to experience Mon's Thai Street Food for the first time. The menu choices were great and my other half was able to find plenty that she liked from the gluten-free options, including the starters and mains. The quality of the food was superb and the portion sizes extremely generous, even for a big chap like me! Service was both friendly and prompt with a good supply of prawn crackers while waiting. Overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, representing good value for money. I'd strongly recommend Mon's Thai Street Food to anyone who likes authentic cuisine in the relaxed setting of a great local pub and we'll definitely be coming back!

Ate at this pub twice. Pie night and Sunday roast. The food is excellent! The bread and butter pudding is to die for!!! The service was friendly, excellent and we did not feel rushed. I would highly recommend this pub. VERY reasonable prices.

Me, my wife and 2 sons went for father's day. Upon entering the pub I was quite pleased with the place, but we were then told our table was upstairs on our own. No atmosphere, there were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and felt like we had been shoved out of the way. The food was nice, even though it was a bit cold

We had one of the best steaks we have had for many years cooked to perfection and proper chips and the taste was fantastic. Could not recommend it enought t was ace. The service was spot on , I would recommend it to every one well done red lion and the staff, we will be back !!,

Debbie and Peter and all the staff at the Red Lion were brilliant. I organised a weekend away in Cheddleton and got in touch needing somewhere that could take a large group, with a pre order they were able to feed 26 of us. We had the function area to our selves, the food arrived exactly when arranged as was lovely. Everyone really enjoyed the pub, if we didn’t have kids with us we would have stayed as it had a lovely atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. I really recommend it especially if you have a large group, thank you Debbie and Peter

Had an excellent meal on Friday at the Red Lion. Simple food cooked and presented very well. Had a mixed grill cooked to a T, probably the best all round mixed grill I have had. All the meat was cooked just right and unlike some mixed grills none of it was tough and dry. Staff very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be returning (soon I hope)

Fantastic pub run by a lovely couple pete & deb .. they give everything to make the red lion a special place to be .. wonderfil atmosphere very friendly locals Fantastic entertainment, and truly wonderful food the Sunday lunch is particuley special .. £8.95 !!.. it really is not worth cooking for myself at that price plus steak night Wednesday 2 for £29.99 including a bottle of wine !! Great deal .... pop in you won't be disappointed

Delightful traditional English pub with bags full of charm and hospitality. The Sunday lunch is superb and you won't be disappointed.

Not great for dietary needs. I don't eat meat and have a dairy intolerance.I prearranged to have a Sunday roast dinner, substituting salmon for meat. They said it was not a problem but later changed their mind, Couldn' t have a Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes or gravy! I asked for chips and salad instead and was told it would cost around £10. Tiny piece of salmon, tasteless oven baked wedges not crisp chips and a sad salad. Charged me the same as the sea bass with prawns, £13.95. Later refunded me £2. They did not bother to provide any vegan puddings as promised and gave no explanation or apology. Definitely not returning.

Reasonably priced, large portions of OK food served by very friendly staff, if your looking for a hearty pub food and drink with no frills Red Lion is not a bad place to visit.

Went for Sunday Lunch with my Dad and Brother and all 3 of us choice Beef, when we received it, was Yorkshire Pudding, Stuffing, Carrots, Cauliflower, Green Beans, Mashed and Roast Potatoes and plenty of Gravy. One of the Best Dinners I have had. Will be definitely going back again.

Brilliant place! The children love running around in the beer garden and the food is very nice. We definitely couldn’t fault the service as the staff are all welcoming and very friendly. So glad to have this place just a short walk away.

We went on Burger and Pie Night (Thursdays). I had the Black & Blue Burger.....it's a large portion on the plate and you get 2 patties in the burger bun. The burger tasted quite nice, but not excellent or gourmet. For me the meat tasted a bit cheap. Also the chunky chips looked good but did not taste great. It was a better story for my partner who had the Beetroot Burger. She said it was excellent and had good flavour and she would have it again. She said the chip portion was too big for her and left quite a few. The salad on both plates was nice and tasted good. Overall we have a hit and miss situation, but we may return if I try a pie and my partner has the beetroot burger again

Was told we could only have a Sunday roast as menu limited on a Sunday, however other people ordering food from a menu. When food came 4 out of 5 meals were cold, sent back them back, they came back but not much warmer. Staff asked us to honest so we told them we didn't enjoy our meals as 4 out of 5 us barely ate them, the manager did only charge us for 3 meals but we only actually ate one

After being extremely disappointed by another local pub, we chanced upon The Red Lion. We were made to feel welcome and enjoyed very good service from both the barmaid, waitress and I presume, the landlord. Although you have a little wait as all the food is cooked from scratch, it is totally worth it. Excellent food at a very reasonable price, well presented and piping hot. Lovely atmosphere, we enjoyed our meal and felt very much at home. Would highly recommend.

Was really looking forward to this meal after the lovely welcome we received yesterday for drinks so booked for tonight....sadly the prawn cocktail starter was nothing like we expected and was very spicy, ice cube required to cool the mouth! My chicken diane was lovely but hubby's braised beef was lacking in flavour, it was eaten but sadly not enjoyed 😢

Quite a good variety of options on the menu including vegetarian options. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Managed to sit our large party of 8 on a bank holiday afternoon. Triple cooked chips were great and you get very generous portions especially with the kids menu. I had a ribeye steak which was well cooked but the cut wasn't the best (a lot of sinew). Parking is a bit limited as it is near a canal path so lots of dog walkers park there as well.

Went after a walk around the area staff were lovely and very helpful,we ended up having a lunch meal which was excellent and a reasonable price.

Very disappointing! A very large group of us had reserved the huts at the back of the pub 25+ adults and about 12 kids all paying for drinks etc at the weekend. We had walked along the canal and this was the last stop. Some of the group joined us were older and we tried to put the heaters on as it had gone cold. Sadly not working and when asked why we were told no he had turned them off due to the increased costs!!! Sorry but when you have a group of that size you should accommodate! No hot drink option either couldn’t be bothered with the kettle either. Suffice it to say some didn’t stay and we will not be turning!

Have not been here for a while, heard they had a change to the menu and food offering so tried it out. Wide choice to suit most demands. I opted for a steak and my wife went for the chicken diane, both cooked to our liking and delicious. Well presented and such good value for money. Looking forward to our next visit.

Enjoyed dinner on Wednesday Steak night. Probably the best Ribeye I have had for as far as I can remember. Cooked to perfection, accompanied by roasted cheery tomatoes, flat mushroom, chips and salad. Will be back for more.

I haven't been to this pub before. I was greeted by all 3 barmaids saying 'hello' in unison; I felt at home immediately. The pint of Hobgoblin I ordered was sour, but without any quibbles I was asked if I wanted anything else. I took a pint of Timothy Taylor, which was superb. A very welcoming and comfortable local pub.

I have to say that in the weeks leading up to this years festive season my wife and I have frequented the pub on a number of occasions and been greeted with a nod and a few cheery hellos and had some quite pleasant conversations from a number of 'regular' locals. Sadly that's not the case with a number of staff who come across as surly and clearly lack any customer service skills. Popped in on Christmas Eve lunch time for a drink and was made to feel decidedly unwelcome and not for the first time I may add. Gulped our drinks and left promptly and despite wishing other customers and members of staff a Merry Christmas our sentiments were certainly not returned by those behind the bar. Just because I don't visit the pub on a regular regular basis it shouldn't make me and my wife feel any less valued than those that do. Suggest you enrol at a Customer Service College of Excellence but then I think it would be a waste of time because the staff simply don't, like many others, 'get' Good Customer Service!

Absolutely fabulous, from the young lady who greeted us to the lovely waitress who looked after us,the atmosphere and music was top notch. Food was so delicious and generous and when they say homemade they mean homemade. I heartily recommend, I certainly intend to visit this place again.

Clean, but sadly lacking atmosphere. Prices reasonable, but slightly disturbed by the bartender who seemed to be constantly coughing, not idea in the middle of a global pandemic....

Just spent a pleasant few hours at the Red Lion with my friend. We enjoyed our drinks in the lovely garden which had plenty of seating ,some undercover. I had already eaten but my friend ordered fish and chips and said they were delicious. They looked amazing with a huge fish on a separate little dish,a lovely touch and prevents soggy bottoms lol, home made chips too!. I wish I hadn't have already eaten and can't wait to return to sample it for myself. The staff were lovely and friendly and couldn't do enough for you. So thankyou for making our Saturday afternoon a very pleasant one.

Incredibly welcoming, warm atmosphere, staff are amazing, happy smiles as soon as you walk in. Nothing is too much trouble. The pub is beautifully decorated, it is just such a lovely space to be in. So easy to just relax as soon as you walk in. The beer garden is amazing, its our favourite space at the Red Lion as we love being outside. The food has amazing reviews from our friends, we hope to sample very soon. The landlord introduced himself and is such a lovely man, he goes out of his way to talk to everyone. The whole place is like meeting old friends. Its just like a home from home. This is 100% our go to pub in Cheddleton. Thank you to the landlord and staff, you are all amazing!

Nice little pub, well quite big actually, lovely friendly staff and a cracking pint, I can't comment personally on the grub but I'm told it's very good.

In these 'trying' times, this was an absolute haven. Lovely to sit in the garden enjoying warm, late-afternoon sunshine with good lager and excellent chips. After the past twelve months or so, it was a treat to enjoy something approaching 'normality'. We just need to guarantee the weather and nothing more need be said..

hi I called in from our journey to Buxton from the south west. With my parents for a meal it was a lovely Harty meal. all the staff was friendly and helpful asking if everything was ok with our meals and if we wanted anymore drinks . 😄👍
