Lovely afternoon tea, sandwiches were really fresh and good choice of cakes too. Had a Buyagift voucher to use and chose the Dog and Partridge as it was on our way back from a long weekend in the Peak District. Staff very friendly and welcoming too.

We had an Afternoon Tea voucher and chose the Dog and Partridge at Ashbourne. We've had a couple of afternoon teas at other places in the past and not been overly impressed but this one was excellent. Plentiful sandwiches absolutely freshly made with salad garnish on the side. Desserts delicious and we had to bring some home as too many for us to eat there. Staff very friendly and lovely setting. Would definitely return

Afternoon tea booked for a family treat. Staff weren't particularly pleasant. Food portions were much smaller than any other afternoon tea I have experienced and overpriced. Had to pay &2.00 extra per person if you wanted coffee not tea. A complete disappointment and certainly would not recommend.

My partner and I visited today with our friends. We asked for 1 coffee instead of 1 tea and were told this would be an additional cost of £2. An additional pot of tea we were told would involve a further cost for the 4 teabags. We were faced with 3 rounds of sandwiches for each person. The ham was clearly at its end and there wasn't enough to put on the sandwiches. The lettuce was brown. We complained to the Manager who said the lettuce had been cut with a knife instead of being pulled off (ridiculous). Brown lettuce is the last of a lettuce which is past its sell by date. There was no explanation for

Looks lovely from the outside. Went for afternoon tea using a £35 buy a gift voucher. The lady sat us at a small table right in the corner. I couldnt move very uncomfortable. God knows where she was going to put the afternoon tea. We asked to be moved, was told they had bookings but she moved us anyway. We was sat in the conservatory all doors and windows shut. At this point there was only 2 other couples in and no one else arrived. Afternoon tea came, looked OK, cakes looked nice. The cream wasnt clotted cream so melted on the scone and a small biscuit, i havnt a clue what it was but had a tinge to it. There was salmon with cream cheese and cucumber which we don't like, ham which was OK and something that resembled mixed egg with a bright yellow yolk- it was sweaty cheese mixed with pickle which was not nice and a floppy garnish of salad. Now while we are trying to eat some of it we was continuously swatting flies away. That was it we decided to leave. You only had a choice of fruit teas or earl grey which is not nice and had to pay extra for coffee. The afternoon teas I've had in the past come with a small dish of pickle on the side so you can choose to have it, pork pie a few crisps. This for £35 was well below standard. It was disgusting. The lady who bought out the food knew because she kept looking at what we had left. We ordered a drink on the way in so went to pay for it on the way out. She asked if everything was OK I replied disappointing. She looked shocked. I mentioned the food and the fact we where getting stressed due to the flies and she replied oh that's nature 😮. It's the only place I've been where you share your food with the flies. This was a mothers day treat that was totally ruined. Never in a hundred years would I go back here. I have complained through buy a gift too as the food here was well below what should have been served. Since getting in we've both had a dickie tummy.

We visited on 23rd July for afternoon tea having made a reservation a couple of weeks previous. Afternoon tea is always a gamble for us as my wife is Coeliac and needs gluten free food with no cross contamination. The staff at the dog and Partridge staff were friendly from when we first stepped through the door to the moment we left. And the afternoon tea was really well prepared and presented and tasted great - both the gluten free and standard version. A great choice of sandwiches, scones, cakes++++. In summary, great location, friendly folks, excellent food - what’s not to like 😀.

We were given a voucher at Christmas for afternoon tea so whilst we were on holiday thought we would find somewhere to use it. We contacted the Dog and Partridge and booked in. Jenny was very helpful. We were given a choice of seating upon our arrival. There was a good choice of teas which were served in pots with China cups and saucers. The afternoon tea consisted of salmon and cream cheese, cheese and pickle and turkey and Stuffing sandwiches followed by large warm scone with jam and cream, a brownie, a piece of carrot cake, a shortbread biscuit and a delicious mini cheesecake in a small teacup. All was well presented and we thoroughly enjoyed it This is a lovely hostelry with real character and very friendly staff.

We were tempted by the menu, which I'm afraid sounds much better than the food that arrives at the table. Food was very average and about 30-40% overpriced. I could definitely cook better at home and I'm no chef. No atmosphere either and very old-fashioned decor. If it wants to charge those prices, it definitely needs to up its game.

We received a Buyagift experience as a present, and as usual these are very limited as to there uses. As it was expiring in 10 days time we decided to use it at The Dog and Partridge. The only other option was 40 miles away and we didn’t want to travel to far. The D&P class themselves as a gastropub, I rang and book for lunch. I was told we had to use a Table d’hote menu, priced at £45 for two for 2 courses …..the price of the voucher. The choices was quite limited for a gastro menu. In the end we opted for Steak and Ale pie with a suet crust, what came was a small amount of meat in the thinnest watery juice. It was pretty tasteless, the suet top was wafer thin and undercooked. The veg was frozen not fresh, but the five chips ! we’re delicious. Dessert….one peach crumble, served in a tiny ramekin with no more than a teaspoon of crumble on it, and a lemon cheesecake. The cheesecake was strange tasting. It was in a glass bowl, was crumbled biscuits some whipped plain topping and a spoon of lemon curd on top. The cheese mix tasted sour and my partner couldn’t eat it. On going to the bar to pay for our drinks, the person asked if everything was alright. Well I told her exactly what I have written, I asked her what cheesecake was made of and she said soft cheese….. I said mascarpone…..I don’t know was the answer. Now I am a retired chef, who spent 32 years in the trade. This food was poor….poor ingredients, frozen veg and terrible desserts. My feedback should be considered. The staff members response was…. we never get complaints about food, there’s nothing wrong with it, we get compliments all the time. Well it was actually was poor. Maybe cafe standards, but certainly not Gastropub. And you obviously don’t read Trip advisor reviews. We were the only diners in the restaurant. Some people were having afternoon tea and we could here them moaning about the quality, and they left quite a bit. We will put it down to experience. But wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

We would not eat here again, beware!! The food was a microwaved reheat, tasteless and definitely not freshly cooked as they profess! Maybe freshly cooked a while ago perhaps?? The pub area was very quaint, but the dining area and the rest of it lacked atmosphere and was a bit old and drab to be honest! The owners say it’s a 17th century building, but you can still tastefully combine the old features of a building with new furnishings etc still retaining its history, but I feel this is just their excuse for old and tired! Other pubs, restaurants and hotels seem to be able to do this very thing as there are lots of old buildings in Derbyshire, maybe they need to visit a few of these places to give them some fresh ideas! Some reviews on here say their food was delicious, ours was definitely not, so I think you have to be lucky with the time you go as to whether the chefs are actually there, when it was cooked and who is in the kitchen!??? Gastro pub it certainly is not and the owners don’t want to see where they are going wrong with this, their heads are firmly in the sand and won’t hear or accept what is being said and they certainly don’t do anything about it! They only choose to acknowledge the positive reviews, ignoring all the bad reviews even being rude to them with their reply, asking them to drive on by the next time!!!!!! Wow!!!!!! On a positive note, the staff members who served us were very helpful and did their best in what must be difficult circumstances, as there were other people complaining about the food also! This is my honest review and if the food was good, I would be singing their praises, but our meal at the Dog & Partridge was a huge disappointment, more so because it was gifted to us on a meal voucher by our relative!! It was very frustrating as we left feeling hungry having had one course, having to reluctantly send the main course back! They wouldn’t accept any responsibility and totally refused any refund! Shameful!!!!

Nice quiet little pub. Too quiet, when we arrived there were only four people in there. Anyway food, it’s was nice for a afternoon tea with a selection of sandwiches ( ham, cheese and pickle, salmon) and cakes( chocolate, carrot, scones) lemon cheesecake and shortbread biscuits with tea or coffee to drink. I know what you’re thinking, what’s the downside? Answer the scones, they tasted salty but as homemade their recipe could be different to everyone else’s. Enough said

Please do not visit this venue they have no care for customer safety and if you pre pay you will not get a refund or a reschedule even when Derbyshire Fire and Rescue area commander tells you not to travel and there is a red weather waring in place which means danger to life-Please read my story below I called to cancel a pre-booked tea for two at 9am on Saturday 21st October. As there was severe flooding in Derbyshire on Saturday and the advice on national TV on Sat morning from the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue area commander was not to travel unless you had to and there was also a red warning in place for danger to life across Chesterfield and Derbyshire. I live in Derbyshire and my Mother in Law lives in Chesterfield. I cannot believe the Dog and Partridge would not allow us to rebook our tea for two given the extreme circumstances and too be told by a member of staff that we would be fine as the main roads near you were open so we would be fine is extremely patronising and rude. The fact they expected me to travel to Chesterfield when a lot of the main roads were flooded and then to Ashborne when there was a warning in place is unreasonable and shows a complete lack of care for your customers safety. I was told on Saturday morning that you have a 48-hour cancellation policy, and I was not told that when I booked and cannot find this on the website. I was then told if I had called the night before I may have been able to rebook. They showed a complete lack of care for customer safety expecting me to travel and risk getting stuck putting the already stretched emergency services under more pressure showed total disrespect for care and safety and if I am honest a lack of understanding of the issues Derbyshire was under over the weekend

It’s not often I write reviews but feel compelled to. I pass the D&P all the time and always think it looks lovely so I popped in on spec with my 12 year old son for Sunday roast on the way to Leek. What a mistake. I had roast pork and my son roast Turkey. Not good at all. Frozen mixed veg that has gone soft and soggy. Frozen, microwaved roast potatoes. Dry stuffing. Not much meat and £36.70 for two roast and a Diet Coke. Only good thing was the mustard and apple sauce. What a rip off. And before you ask why didn’t I say anything it’s because my son wouldn’t let me and I didn’t want to embarrass him and yes see ate it - as we were starving. Needs a complete redecorate too. Such a shame as the staff are friendly. Please please get yourself a new chef. Its unacceptable serving frozen, soggy vegetables from a packet when paying that much. I asked my 12 year old son what two words he’d use for the food - he said - frozen and awful.

The only game in town, otherwise I would have chosen something better! We needed overnight accomodation in the area and needed to eat outside. it was a Monday night and felt like the Chef's night off. Wait staff were friendly and pleasant but sometimes forgetful. My friend's food was OK - a reheated (I think) steak & ale pie, with a few tired looking veg. My Staffs oatcake with roast veg was terrible. If I hadn't been so hungry I would have sent it back. Veg were soggy - no sign of being roast. Goat cheese was a gummy mess on top. Fries industrial. With proper restaurant prices, it would be nice to have proper restaurant food and service.

Its SUCH. A good pub it has everything but would be better knocked down Honestly my food tasted like cardboard and my gravy NEVER arrived. I had some Mexican vegetables on a roast dinner, a Halloween 2021 can of Fanta, Some sort of chemicals in a mug, staff never hear if a J20, Dirty brown tap water, felt petrified to leave the table for the toilet. If I wanted to visit a time capsual I'll visit a museum next time. Who wants to eat their dinner next to painted gin glasses and a shampoo display cabinet. I'd be surprised if the shampoo is still in date by the state of this place Perfect to go to if you'd like some food poisoning, sticky tables and chairs, dirty water, and frightening staff. If I could rate this place out of 10 it would be a minus 100. Couldn't pay me to stay/come back. Honestly not worth it, doubt the food hygiene rating was updated since 1960. HIGHLY reccomend a demolishion company come bulldoze this next. May as well just go to another pub. And no, I don't fancy cooking at home as the ads say, but I sure as hell don't want to eat here.

t's always hard to write a bad review - but I write this in hope that lessons are learned rather than having a go.We chose the restaurant because the menu looked interesting enough and the prices were premium so expected high quality. We arrived at the restaurant and it felt like we had arrived in the middle of a family argument and it was a bit frosty. We did feel a bit awkward from the off (which maybe didn't help the situation).---The choice of beers was a little bland with 2 local ales and 2 lagers (1 cheap - 1 premium). The starters were okay, 2 of us had chorizo (little bland but okay) 1 had the st marcelin (cheese and bread good but salad didn't look fresh) 1 had pate (okay), cured meats (looked like cured slices straight out of a pack and onto a plate with tired salad. The service was relatively quick and our mins arrived shortly after.1 x Steak and Ale Pie. This was disappointing because the meat was actually tender and the gravy was nice and thick however unfortunately it had absolutely no flavour. The pastry on the top was a little thin but inoffensive. The chips were nice and chunky but could have done with a nice gravy to dip them in. Couple of bits of cauliflower and brocoli thst didn't have any seasoning on the side.1 x BBQ Chicken. This dish went down fine no real complaints or issues.2 x Venison Lasagne. Large portion but ill texture and again distinct lack of flavour. Both lads eating this have great appetites and are not fussy eaters. We had been out and about all day and both really struggled to finish it.1 x chicken and Veg. This was a terrible dish, bland, overcooked chicken and poorly cooked unseasoned veg. It very much HD the texture of reheated food as opposed to fresh produce. We did unfortunately have to complain about this dish as it was inedible. (Props to the owners as it was immediately removed from the bill)1 x Beef Burger No Cheese. Burger was a little dry but otherwise inoffensive.---All of this sadly was made worse by the price. This was an extremely expensive meal with mains costing £14+ including the lasagne. The chicken dish was from memory £16 or more.Perhaps we are spoiled from coming from places where competition is so high.every independent pub/restaurant produces excellent food in order to gain repeat custom (newcastle and cheltenham) but this really felt like a place where there was no competition and no need to strive. We also felt it telling that at no point did the waitress or waiter come and ask how our food was during our meal almost as if it was better avoided (this also added to the unwelcoming feel). The pub had a nice seating area and what looked like a lovely beer garden. It felt like a timewarp with its low ceilings and beams. It has every opportunity to be a lovely pub perfect for locals and holidaymakers. A little bit of effort on the decor combined with a look into their produce and quality. As it stands - I would recommend you avoid!!!

We were booked in for 3 nights via Alton Towers website, we stayed 1 & then checked out it's a disgrace. It looked nice when we arrived at 8.30pm but we hade been up at 5am to drive 4 hours & then spent the day in Alton Towers so were exhausted. We didn't take up the offer to eat in the restaurant as looking at the menu it was very expensive for what was on offer. The windows had been open when we arrived in our chalet but we shut them to block out the outside noise (early morning we were woken by sound of lorries going past) , we should have left them open. When we woke the next morning I was in pain & coughing, the room smelt very damp, musty & mouldy which had gotten into my lungs whilst I was asleep. The bed was so hard & small both me & my husband ached. The pillows that were all plump & lovely when we arrived had turned into wafer thin slices of covered beads- I've seen pancakes that were not as flat as these pillows. The kids bunk beds had lovely white covers on, but when you popped the buttons the corners of the duvets were yellow & brown & looked like they had never been washed. When we went into the bathroom to use the shower there was mould on the shower wall which no one had bothered to wipe off, the seal on the glass shower screen was covered in red mould & needed replacing. The bath also had several cracks in it. Between the bathroom & bedroom was a very large wet patch which the receptionist tried to say there knew nothing about it & would get housekeeping to look into it - housekeeping were the same 2 young girls who were in the restaurant serving breakfast.Breakfast was a pathetic buffet of a few small boxes of cereal, some cupcakes that tastes like they had dumped a spoonful of lard on top & croissants or £5 extra if you wanted hot food - we had booked as a B&B so the offering for breakfast was very poor. My husband had a cooked breakfast, he only ate it because we had paid for it - it was that bad. The waitress was very pushy trying to get us to order 4 cooked breakfasts which really should have been included as a B&B.The same 2 girls in the restaurant were also housekeeping, we saw them go into the room opposite who had checked out. They were not in there more then 20 minutes, had no clean towels or clean bedding with them!!!I contacted Alton Towers who booked us into a basic room at Splash Landings hotel which was a luxury compared to this place. When I went to reception to pay for the breakfast & inform them we were checking out the lady tried to say they had different beds in other rooms we could try but unfortunately missed the point about how bad their cleanliness is & that if our room isn't cleaned properly I can only assume all the rooms are the same as the same people are cleaning them all. Her face didn't look very happy & her attitude turned rather rude, can only assume she didn't like beening told the truth about her shabby chalets - we stayed in room 2Yes it is 15 minutes drive from Alton Towers but that is really the only thing going for it

Called in for food whilst on holiday and have to say it is the worst roast I have ever paid for. The starters were ok; however, no gap between the starters and the main course being brought out. Two of us had the roast and we also ordered a stew. The vegetables were not very hot and the cauliflower you could not get your fork into. I’m afraid to say it was all abit bland and as it was not a cheap meal I left feeling very disappointed. I would not recommend as a nice place to eat.

Disappointing meal. Vegetables appeared to have been all boiled together. Steak was poor quality. The oatcakes were nice. Lamb stew good but dumplings rather heavy.

We booked our Alton Towers Break through the hotel, this is our second stay here. Lovely place to crash after a busy day at the theme park which is a 15minute drive up the road. Amazing selection for Breakfast. Felt very welcome and safe with some covid rules in place. Will definitely be staying again.

Really slow service. Had to wave and shout after 30 minutes and it wasn’t particularly busy. And so expensive! A tenner for a cheese and pickle sandwich. I guess they have a bit of a captive audience with Alton Towers so close. Food was ok. Decor was a little tired

Myself and 3 friends stayed here for one night this weekend. This was booked in conjunction with the alton towers tickets package to celebrate one member of the party turning 30. Several weeks prior to our stay, I conversed via email with this b&b to arrange them decorating the room we was staying in with banners and balloons as a surprise for my friend, I provided these to the b &b in ample time and they was more than happy to accommodate this request. However on arrival, I was extremely disappointed to find that the room had not been decorated with the banners and balloons I had sent and despite requesting a twin room we had been given a double. I immediately went to reception to query these points, the lady I spoke to was a nice lady who said she would enquire with the other staff and get back to me soon. When I got back to the room, the lady rang the phone in the room and apologised for not decorating the room and said they could do it when we went for our evening meal. However i did not see the point in this as the surprise should have been upon arrival and didn't think doing it whilst we was having our meal would give the same effect. The lady did offer to move us to a twin room, however I didn't want to make much of a fuss so agreed to remain in the double as my main disappointment was the room not being decorated. I would have liked them to offer us a round of drinks on the house or something for them messing up however nothing at all was offered and considering it was for my friends 30th birthday I found this disappointing. Following this, I thought we would have received great customer service however this was not the case. Upon being seated on the terrace (which was beautiful with lovely views) we was left for around 20-30 mins before being asked what drinks we wanted , despite asking twice to 2 different members of staff could we order. The drinks menu was okay but pricey. The food was edible, however not amazing, and again extremely pricey. We decided it would be best to go back to our rooms to continue our evening due to the poor customer service and lack of atmosphere in the bar area. The rooms/chalets were okay, beds comfy, nice bathroom however the shower head was filthy. We was looking forward to breakfast however I have to say that wasn't great. Some of the staff barely spoke to/acknowledged us when serving our breakfast. There was a selection of cereals, fruit flapjacks etc and wagon wheels which I found an odd item to have at breakfast. I ordered a full English instead which was £5 extra, again it was edible but not great and there was a hair on the fried bread. My friend was also charged the same price just for a bacon sandwich? Odd. Upon checkout, my friend was shocked to discover she had been charged twice for some items and despite challenging this with the b&b it has not been resolved. Overall, I would not recommend this b &b, despite its beautiful surroundings and handy location for Alton towers, it is extremely over priced and the customer service is poor.

We stayed here whilst visiting Alton Towers for the weekend, we rang ahead as we would be a late check in due to being at the theme park and they were really accommodating offering us a late supper if we missed the food service times. Friendly, helpful lady on the front desk and we had a delicious meal on the garden terrace that evening with a good, varied menu for the kids and adults. There was also a play park for the kids which was an added bonus. We had a family room for 2 adults and 3 kids which was clean and comfortable. The continental breakfast basket delivered to the door the next morning had a really good, large selection of fruit, pastries, yoghurts etc.We would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here wednesday to saturday. Room firstly big enough for 2 adults,2 kids . Though storage space for clothing ie hanging , draw space not very good . No where to hang wet coats, entry hallway damp so not best place for clothes. Bathroom ok , but be warned shower hot water goes very quickly. Beds comfortable ,warm .Food : breakfast only the continental is part of the deal to stay , full english is not . We found this out last morning after being told it was part of stay by member of staff earlier in week. But for 5£ it is worth it .The lay out for one way and people wearing masks was good until Friday night , when people were walking upto the bar , no mask, around the dining area , through the bar area unmasked, even 2 families of four coming to a bubble of 8 in the bar area. Blind eye turned to this making myself and my family unsafe .For people with dogs , good place for dogs to stay , but be aware you will be put into the bar area .In here the tables are very low , none of were able to get comfortable when eating., but there was no other option given to counteract this .I did say before friday night nightmare I would stay again , but with masks not being worn , forced to be worn I will no longer be going ever again.

Stayed here as we visited Alton towers which was ideal as only 10 mins drive away. Nice friendly staff when checking in and at breakfast. Room was nice, with parking bay outside room, hot water ran out which was disappointing after been out all day in the cold so only one of us got a hot bath. No toiletries provided, again disappointing as I didn’t pack much for one night, they do sell toiletries in the shop but god knows what the prices were, as we left we picked up a soft toy as we were next visiting family so it was for a small gift, we were charged £27! Which is shocking.

We booked in advance to eat here on Saturday evening as we were camping at the nearby campsite. I clearly stated that we would have dogs with us and the lady I spoke to said no problem we will seat you in the bar area - absolutely fine with us.Arrived exactly on time to be told that we hadn’t got a table in the bar area as the lady had forgotten to mark down the fact we were bringing dogs. The lady who greeted us admitted that it was her that I had spoken to and she could remember the conversation but just hadn’t noted it! She apologised with no conviction whatsoever and informed us our only option was to sit outside or in her words “ you could always go somewhere else”!! Reluctantly we chose outside but when our food arrived it went cold very quickly, due to it being quite chilly weather that evening. We were also quite disappointed with the Vegetarian/Pescatarian choices available, actually there were no fish dishes at all. Two of our party ended up with a small bowl of chips and a few slices of bread for their meal.

After a busy day at Alton Towers we had booked to eat at the Star in Cotton, but after being ignored for ages and becoming increasingly worried about the very dubious social distancing eating that was taking place, we left and rang the Dog and Partridge after we passed it 5 minutes later - luckily they could fit us in and from the second we walked in the difference between these two pubs was amazing. A great warm welcome, impressive adherence to social distancing and really lovely staff. The food was lovely(one of the best cheese boards I've ever had) and served quite quickly considering how busy the place was. The veggi and kids options were tasty and offered a decent selection - my son loved the kids pudding platter! We almost rang to go again the next day but unfortunately ended up more towards Mansfield and had an 'ok' meal out that way. I honestly can't recommend the Dog and Partridge enough and will definitely be going again when we visit the area in future.

Just back from an overnight stay here. The location is lovely and thank you for accommodating us with our 2 dogs. We paid 140 for 1 night bed and breakfast in a family suite as that is all they had left at the time of booking. Check in was smooth and our Suite The Tissington was clean and tidy. However no hot water at all despite running the tap for 20 minutes. No remote control for the main TV. I tried ringing the Reception but no reply so wandered up there. I explained the situation to the owner and I was offered to shower in another room down the corridor. We were both dressed by this point so could not be bothered to undress and go down the corridor to the other room then back to our room to dry hair etc. Then we went for breakfast which we would have thought was included in the price. Cold breakfast is but if you want a full cooked breakfast its a further £5. My partner had the full breakfast but said it was not hot. Personally I would not choose to come back and feel there are better places to stay.

I booked a two day Alton towers trip but we didn't fancy staying at their hotel again as it was a bit cramped for out family of five previously. The dog and partridge came up on their website and I am so glad it did. After a full day at the park it was lovely to drive 15 minutes for some rest and relax with lovely food and great service. They have really thought about how to get round social distancing and covid issues and have done an amazing job.On arrival there was a small issue with a key , this was dealt with efficiently and quickly which I always think is a good marker of a business. How they deal with problems and we had no complaints . We had our evening meal there , it's not the cheapest but was worth the money and the staff were brilliant. We stayed in the Bakewell room which for our family of five was perfect. Two sets of bunk beds and a double. The kids were upset we were only staying one night as they had such a good sleep and enjoyed the park just outside ! Breakfast was lovely with so much choice. I have never had so many options available and it was all delicious. Would highly recommend and would go again tomorrow

Visited here yesterday, and wow when we saw the prices on the lunch menu we were expecting something fabulous. How very disappointed we were. A sandwhich with chips and coleslaw for £10 we thought would be spectactular. How wrong we were. 2 slices of white bread, 7 chips, a small pot of coleslaw and a salad garnish. I felt they could have least have padded the offering out with a few more chips - come on folks we all know how cheap a few frozen chips are. I would never, ever eat here again. The children's menu was roughly £7 per portion - average food, certainly not £7.00 worth. All in all, a shame as we live relatively locally and dine out quite frequently, but felt we'd been short changed with this abysmal offering. On the plus side, social distancing was well thought out and the play area was nice, but for the price of lunch, I would happily have eaten at one of the many, good local eateries providing value for money. Yes, the hospitality industry has had a hard time, as have a lot of us, but this is not the way to claw it back as repeat business with be scarce.

Atmosphere is nice - steady music on in the background. Staff will go above and beyond. We amended a couple of items on the menu and they were more than happy to oblige. The restaurant was clean and tidy. Food you could tell was all cooked from scratch - the steak and stilton pie was to die for. No grumbles here and it was very reasonably priced. The breakfast was especially good as had a huge selection and again they catered to individual needs if you wanted to amend the items.

We visited the D&P at the weekend with a groupon voucher. The menu had a good variety of things on. The pub was very very warm with radiators you could barely touch, fine for me as I’m a bit nesh! However if a child touched them they’d be hurt. For starters we had garlic mushrooms and mini fish and chips. Both of which were absolutely delicious. The drinks were reasonable priced. The mains however were disappointing. We had the steak and ale pie and turkey dinner. The turkey and gravy were only lukewarm and the carrots were hard. The rest of the veg was nice though. I was a little surprised not to have a Yorkshire pudding with a roast. The pie was ok. Unfortunately I’ve had a terrible stomach following this meal and have felt really ill. My husband has also been feeling sick. I don’t mean to be rude but some of the staff, one more than the others, lacked in personal hygiene and I see from another review that this has been raised before. It’s really off putting eating when you keep getting the waft of BO whenever a certain staff member walks past. I want to end on a positive as it only seems fair - I did really enjoy the starters and the location. The view out of the conservatory is really nice and relaxing, especially when you live in the city. The staff were attentive to check on us as well - I should have raised my food not being hot enough at the time.
