Called in today for a nice lunch, but very dark and uninviting, could it be closed ? Once we were inside we were informed that only coffee was available, no food whatsoever. Having looked at Facebook reviews this place looked great but it turned out to be a waste of a journey so we spent our money elsewhere and will not try again. Very disappointing.

I booked the Moatshed for a surprise 80th birthday party for my mum. We had just over 50 guests and I would say this was a perfect number for the venue. I was given a wide choice of items to create an afternoon tea menu, along with access in the morning to put up decorations. Nothing was too much trouble for the team, even when we had people drop out at the last minute - we were even given one guest's full selection of vegetarian afternoon tea to take home for her, along with a large 'doggy bag of leftovers. They catered for various dietary requirements, including vegan and gluten free, with no problems at all. I cannot praise them all enough - all the staff were a joy to deal, the venue was spotless and we were really looked after.

Nice little country pub. Friendly staff. Had Sunday Lunch and the food was very good. Amount of meat that came with the roast pork was more than expected and well cooked. A few things were forgotten with the meal which was disappointing but staff soon sorted. Will return to try on a week night. Update 9th June 24: have returned on a number of occasions now, on different days and different times, and each time the quality of food has been consistently good. Enough variety of meals that most people will find something they like. Update 20th November: still a very positive review. Food is consistently good quality and staff are all very friendly and helpful. Good value for money.

Went in there for first time, will be my last . pub was very dirty, heavily beer stained seats, young lads under 16 were playing pool ,while above was a sign asking if you were 18 ? . the toilets were also very dirty with broken toilet roll holder and no toilet roll to be seen and it was early afternoon . needless to say we didn't stay very long . the 1 star was for the Guinness , would not recommend

Plans were made early in the year for this celebration of our father's 80th birthday. Emails were exchanged with Selina who gave clear information.we decided to choose the xmas menu due to the excellent selection on the menu to meet the preferences of the 16 family members well organised day ensued with good food, nice portion sizes and well paced delivery by the serving staff . Even provided a cake stand and portioned the birthday cake for us. Thank you for providing a stress free experience

APPALLING GENERAL MANAGER!!!! Unfortunately our last visit to the White Lion was tainted by witnessing the general manager (whom I believe is named Stuart) verbally abusing a young staff member in front of customers! And continue to mock the waiter to customers was absolutely unprofessional! We as a family were utterly shocked as we have previously been welcomed into this pub with warm friendly faces. It goes against all of our values we instil and we will not be returning!

Our second visit which was as good as the first. A great pub that has a mix of walkers/locals etc, very friendly & welcoming. Starters came with a lovely site salad(not the usual lettuce/tomato)but everything & fresh too. A sizzling steak on its way to a customer…we were sold on the smell as it passed by. We ordered ribeye, very nice & you cook it to your liking on the hot stone.

We had the pleasure of dining at The Castle Hotel & Pub after our performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream last Saturday night at the beautiful Soulton Hall. Amy, Jackie, and Em were an absolute dream to book with. We arrived to a lively atmosphere of singing but were happily moved to the meeting room for a more intimate night with our exhausted and hungry company. Any other night we would have happily joined in on the karaoke! The vegetarian chilli was delicious and our company raved about it for the rest of the weekend. We plan to be back again, hopefully when the kitchen is officially open! Thank you all so much.

Food was mediocre at best very plain and overall disappointing. The noodles reminded me of packet flavourless noodles. Wouldn't recommend.
