Been 20 years since last in Wem and Castle Hotel is a good pub the food and beer good also 👌

Can never go wrong with a Joule's pub. (In this town there are two.) We chose The Castle Hotel and were not disappointed. Dog friendly. Great dining area and cosy drinking areas with a garden for more options. The landlord was very friendly and cheerful a sign of a good happy pub. Would love to return and try the restaurant.

We go regularly, food good, service excellent . Can be noisy

Tried the weekend breakfast club (9am onwards) for the first time and very impressed with the food. Well cooked and hot and served on a hot plate. Highly recommended. Breakfast is now buffet style so easy to only get what you want. Evening meals and drinks are good quality with excellent service and great staff. Entertainment on some Saturday evenings.

A bit disappointed with the carvery this week , the beef and pork were sliced so thinly you could almost see through it , but great choice of vegetables

Had a great Sunday lunch with the family. Tasty meat and a good selection of fresh vegetables. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff the lady waiting on our table was excellent especially looking after our 2 year old granddaughter

Visited for a reception buffet style. Good food, and the dining room was easy to navigate. Their Pure Blonde was tasty.

Visited here today. Service was poor! Ordered 4 meals. 2 came out together. Waited for 3rd and then 4th arrived when first 2 had been eaten!! I think they must only have 1 frying pan as the 2 last meals were omelettes. Was not asked if we wanted any sauces. I asked for brown sauce, put it on my food and it was BBQ sauce! Waitress bought the plastic container out saying brown sauce that she got the sauce from.It definitly wasn’t HP! Totally spoilt my meal!! If people are eating together they want their meals together!

You really shouldn't go here 😕 Only to leave room for me to go, as the Sunday dinner is amazingly fantastic, and i want to make sure i can get in.

Lovely evening meal in the beer garden. I can recommend the burgers. Best of all was they were very dog friendly!

Went here yesterday with my sons footy team mates, they all had a carvery and loved it, we sat in the beer garden area which was sheltered and cool. The staff were great considering our kids were a little bit lively, all in all a nice experience

Only went in the garden area for a drink whilst visiting Wem. Food looked good and the flowers were beautiful, would go again if in the area.

Nice Joules brews, served well and accompanied by a nice free sausage roll or two. Worth a stop in.

Brilliant place. Great service, great steak on steak night. Hatfield and Jackie were lovely and attentive. We had an early reservation which is why it looks empty in photo but it soon filled up. Beer garden lovely. Plenty of seating....the double seats a little uncomfortable but nonetheless, great atmosphere. Owner/manager very pleasant and helpful. Sad we live 2 hours away!

This place is lovley we have gone there for years food is fantastic and the staff are great we used to stay at the campsite nearby and we have never had a bad experience there I would 10 out of 10 recommend this place

Great pub. First visit. Called in on the off chance. Good range of ales, beers etc at great prices. Oh and a nice brand of pork scratchings.

We have a meal here every week and always come away satisfied. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The sunday carvery is good value.

Old quaint pub in an equally old Quaint village, nice selection of ales, lagers, spirits etc, food served good but a little over expensive, will try others in Wem to compare.

Lovely place to eat , Food is lovely and fresh and waiting on staff are really pleasant and helpful. Would recommend this place .

Went for Sunday lunch which is carvery. Absolutely delicious. Good choice of meats, veg & potatoes all fresh and nicely cooked. Also good choice of equally delicious puddings.

Wonderful local pub with a rich history. Great sunday carverys in a warm cosy setting. Perfect for a drink after the football with me dad.

We had Saturday night dinner, and it was great. The staff is very friendly and helpful the fish and chips were great. They have a great selection of beer and ales. I had a couple of local brew Green monkey a very nice light beer.

Looking forward to the sun drenched beer garden being open again

High street pub with good beer, good home made food at very reasonable prices, and a good range of coffees. Helpful ad efficient young staff.

Excellent service and carvery with beers that are spot on. Catered well for my fussy little lad. Recommended to book in advance for food.

Warm hospitality with fine beers from local brewery Joules. Good location for quick lunches or Sunday dinners. Friendly welcome from bar staff and has a large outdoor sitting area outside. Been a few times for family functions and always impressed. 4th Sept 2022 Just had Sunday lunch, carvery options of turkey and beef with all the trimmings. Great as always and service is speedy.

Food was great, had a t-bone steak which was massive and delicious, very friendly staff, booked a table for 13 at an hours notice, stayed all evening!! Will definitely visit again when in the area!

Came here yesterday for breakfast. The food was of a very good standard, as was the service, although the orange juice was cordial, and not orange either.

Really nice pub with friendly staff. When I went, the roast was just okay but it's been decent in the past.

We have never been to this area so knew nothing of the eating establishments. Luckily, we chose the Castle.It was a lovely old pub with very friendly staff and good Covid measures. Our wives chose the Vegetable Curry which they said was delicious and us men chose the Castle Stack, which was so tasty. Alan had a shandy which was made with the local beer Joules, which he said was excellent, as was the bottle of Pinot Grigio.In all, it was a fabulous experience.

Great pint of Carling and good service

Started using The Castle about a year ago when moved to Wem. The staff and locals made me feel very welcome. Like an afternoon pint and the real ale always top quality. I enjoy the pale ale and its spot on. Amy and Darren ate great behind the bar and always very attentive. Would recommend highly. Many thanks Jon and Stan

Beer was. Nice service was good I had the t bone steak with chunky chips it was a good meal the beer was good.

It's 4 pm Sunday afternoon--One of the best safe arrival drinks in a long time--driven from Poole to Wem and found local accomodation so unload vehicle and now just want a chill time pint. Take a stroll through the High St and The Castle looks a proper place. All proper re Covid so enter the front door and -yes sign says please wait. Staff come over and quickly do Covid check-in and ask what drink--simple a cider please. Well, they don't know I'm staying in Wem for almost a fortnight and I enjoyed visiting it nearly every day--SUNDAY lunch was just brilliant, CURRY night was a party atmosphere..To Richard and all the staff, thank you for making my time in Wem brilliant.I will return with the family for a real holiday.CheersPeter from JerseyPS in the question below, I only saw a TV in the little bar-not the restaurant and that get's my vote.

Best chunky chips ever! Attentive staff, although we had to sit outside according to regulations. Luckily just escaped a thunderstorm, but definitely worth a visit here!
