We stayed here Thursday to Saturday and I highly recommend. The place was very clean, friendly staff, great food and lovely atmosphere. It's a b&b so we had breakfast in the morning too which again was lovely. The room was amazing, so posh and cozy. The staff even came in and put fresh towels on our bed and replaced the tea & coffee while we we're out! My favorite part about our room was the amazing view of the river and waking up early and sitting by the window and listening and watching the birds! So peaceful. (You can hear the road too but it's not too overpowering) Overall, we have had a absolutely amazing time and made some special memories.

I ordered fish and chips the fish was good quality - but the chips were huge, pale and could have done with longer in the fryer .. my daughter had a minute steam with chips she left her chips too and they weren’t crispy and largely tasted uncooked - not raw but not cooked enough. This isn’t the first time I’ve asked for my chips to go back to be cooked longer, I didn’t today my daughter asked me not to as she’d feel embarrassed. Could the chips not go a triple cooked process so chips are quickly refried 3 rd stage when required..? This is the only criticism I constantly have either this place - Owners / chef please don’t want to complain but please observe the amount of chips left on people plates when the plates are returned.

Sadly below average. Been going here for a few years now, and having lunch here today it wasn't great. Our first annoyance was serving butter from the fridge when having paté as a starter, it doesn't spread! How difficult is it to have a number of portions set aside ready to serve. That's just basics. For mains two had beef I had a ploughmans. Again cold butter which couldn't be spread on the two small pieces of bread. Previously it came with different cheeses, and it used to have a nice pork pie with it. Today's was like a snack pork pie you would get if buying a multi pack. Plate was also chipped. Attention to detail and quality seems to have gone, such a shame, many other restaurants out there though.

The Corbet Arms is one of few pubs that cater for dysphagia. I explained on a previous visit that I have this condition and they immediately acted upon my request to be able to blend individual portions. I was able to order from the menu and was not restricted to my usual order of soup and ice cream. This is huge for someone like myself whose daily choices are so limited. Thank you for listening and acting so quickly to provide a service that has made such a huge difference to my family and myself. Much appreciated. The food is always of a high standard and the service is always excellent. This venue is set in a beautiful setting with stunning Shropshire countryside with a lovely patio and plenty of outdoor seating. Car parking is limited but it has disabled ramp access. Plenty of choice of drinks at the bar. A must for locals and travellers too. The hotel accommodation is also amazing. We stayed after our wedding reception here during lockdown, when I could eat normally and the breakfasts were delicious. Highly recommended.

We held a funeral wake at the Corbet & we were well looked after by Javier. His hospitality was second to none. The Sabrina Suite is an ideal room to hold a private function, it has its own bar & the food was good.

Went with my daughter and Grandson for a meal which was lovely, the service was first class. Only downside was the parking it was full but luckily found a space eventually.

Highly recommend. Absolutely gorgeous Sunday Roast! Staff both front & back of house went above and beyond for us today; My mum has dysphasia and they offered her a choice of desserts today to cater for her dietary needs, it is difficult to find somewhere that will cater for her so we are incredibly grateful for them doing so, will definitely be back! Lovely, fast service. Wonderful drinks & atmosphere.

Good meal lighting a bit bright,felt staff could of pretended they cared not very friendly chap behind bar friendly.

Had Sunday three course meal the food and service were exceptional.

Booked in as Birthday treat. Room very nice with four poster bed and view over river, but up two flights of stairs and decorators working with all surfaces covered in plastic. Went down for dinner only to be sat in a corner by the coffee machine. Would have been nice to see the view rather than look at a blank, grey wall. Food OK, but nothing special. Nobody asked if it was OK. Nowhere to sit for drinks after dinner except the public bar. For breakfast we were ushered into the bar again, placed our order which took 40 mins to arrive, but was delivered stone cold! Made waiter aware and he took plates away and said it would be remade, he retuned after 15 mins with the same items now microwaved, so rubberised bacon and crispy toast. Gave up then, very dissappointed.

I was very much looking forward to my meal at the Corbet arms but feel that i have been completely let down by the service that was provided. We had been sat down and there were just 2 blonde young workers messing around and being silly while we were trying to enjoy a nice meal. The food took ages to come and my husbands wasn't to the best extent. I will not be returning here as I feel staff did not give us the respect we happily gave them.

Stayed for a catch up with friends. Everything from selling timothy taylors, great food, massive bed having a great bath meant that we will be back next year.

We visited mid week, we hadn't booked in but they found us a table. Drinks were ordered and arrived soon after. We waited a while before our order was taken and had to catch the staff member's eye! Food arrived and to be honest, the chips looked overdone! However, they were awesome 👌 My pie was delicious and hubby's fish and chips were also very good. We waited ages for our dessert 🍨 orders to be taken as staff just kept wandering passed! Dessert arrived eventually, bread and butter pudding, which hubby thought was delicious. All in all, the food was good. What we thought was not so good was the slow service, although staff were friendly! The only main criticism is the venue itself, the lighting is way too bright so it feels like a canteen. There are no quieter corners with lighting to set a mood. It felt really strange, the fittings are high up and the artwork is small so no ambiance set to relax in. I'd return for a mid week meal but not for a relaxing evening with my other half. Strange, but with a few tweaks, it could be amazing. The decor at other venues needs to be explored by the team at the Corbett Arms.

Handy location for a visit to Shrewsbury if you are in a car. Car parking right in front. The rooms are great and the restaurant is excellent. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are accessed via stairs so if you have trouble with stairs I suggest you give them a call before you book. I would definitely stay here again, highly recommended.

Family evening meal Great starter and mains. Totally disappointed when we sat waiting for pudding ordered to be told not gone through to kitchen. We had a toddler so refused to wait after order not being processed

If you’ve never been to the Corbet Arms, then I suggest you strongly do ! We were a party of 6 celebrating a birthday family meal, and we all could not praise the quality of the food highly enough, thank you . The food was hot, extremely tasty and very generous portions The staff service was excellent and very courteous throughout the evening. There is no doubt we will be back and thank you for making our evening so enjoyable 👏👏

A party of 19 of us had Sunday lunch at The Corbet today for my daughter’s birthday. I’m not one to usually write reviews, but I was so impressed with everything from the booking process, pre-ordering, service and food on the day, felt I needed to give praise where praise is due! Well done!

On holiday in the area, found this place by accident, thought we would give it a try, booked a table, car park was nearly full but no one in the restaurant, we were taken to a table and asked what drinks we wanted, I asked for a strong bitter.... drinks come mine was really sweet, asked young lad serving what it was and it was shandy, came back with same again ! Asked waitress not what I ordered back it went again, came out a 3rd time with another waiter another shandy! Don't know if it's my northern accent or what, anyway regards the meal I ordered soup which frankly tasted like one of those knorr soups in a plastic pouch... certainly not home made, I paid 27 pounds for a 10oz sirloin quite fatty, forgot the watercress, not worth the money tbh.wifes gammon was great, ordered deserts I had a baileys cheesecake which came out totally bland with no sauce or dusting, All in all for a meal that came pence short of 100 pounds I felt somewhat disappointed.

Been here a few times and never been disappointed. Visited again in July 2023, best Sunday lunch out we've had in a long time. Update: visited again in January 2024, sorry to say it but really disappointed this time. Menu quite limited, everything came with these oversized chips that were hard work to eat. Had a chicken burger that was bland and overcooked, with a pot of off-the-shelf style coleslaw. Wouldn't mind but it was 15 quid.

Not much atmosphere, no music. Below standard, only 3 vegetarian options. I had the veggie burger which tasted like it had been fried in oil. For the price of the meal there's so much better. Just got home and put the oven on. Very disappointed

Called here on the off chance for some lunch. The first thing I noticed was that the table was laid incorrectly - ie, left-handedly. We placed our order which was sometime arriving and cannot say that it was terribly hot. I asked for the bill and when it wasn't forthcoming I went to the counter and paid there. I do not think I will be returning in a hurry. The one good thing which was a help, was the fact that there was ample parking. There was also a pleasant garden.

Sunday lunch for a party of eight yo celebrate my birthday. We were quickly greeted and seated. Javier took our order and spent extra time ensuring my grandchildren got exactly what they wanted. The food came promptly and judging by eight empty plates was to everyone’s liking. The staff were attentive and food excellent! Many thanks👍

We popped in for a coffee with the children on our way back from a local walk . We sat out side as we had dogs . Staff were rude when we ordered a bowl of chips for the kids and said we couldn’t eat out side and not to order any more . The drinks came out cold . Wouldn’t have minded if we got a smile from the staff made to feel in welcome . Will not be returning !

Went to the corbit arms on the 22nd December 2023, the food was not to my taste, but worse things were that most of the plates bowls, ramekins, that came out had cracks and pieces out of them. I pointed this out to my waiter, who said that he would go back and tell the manager which he didn’t, because the puddings Came out and lo and behold. There was cracks in the dishes of the puddings. And pretty much sure that this Harbour germs and bacteria so not impressed whatsoever with the lovely pub and setting the food, and the fact that we were served food in cracked dishes and Plates. I will not be going to the Corbett Arms again that is my third time to visit and the third time I have not been impressed with any of the standards. The only reason I went this time was because it was booked by family. Overpriced and not to my taste.

The food was good but the service was some of the worst I have encountered. The staff seemed uncaring,. No-one appeared to be appointed to our station `n service when it did happen lacked any grace. A list of all the things I would normally expect as elementary in waitress service would seem too petty to mention. But in the past I have forgiven all manner of inconveniences if the staff could just manage a smile. Little chance of that at this place.

We went for a staff Christmas meal. It was fine but where was your Christmas spirit Corbet Arms? A bit of festive background music, crackers on the tables? We had a fun time but it did not feel festive at all. Such a shame! The food was pleasant, however my Chicken liver parfait starter had been pre-cut a long time ago as it had gone grey in appearance. However, the thick cut chips were fabulous! A little more festive spirit required but on the whole, good food.

Very good three course Christmas meal for a large group.

We had a faultless Christmas lunch here, good service and very high standard of food even though extremely busy. Generous portions, infact could not manage it all. The homemade Bakewell tart was 😋 We will definitely be back soon

Excellent in every respect. After being seated at our reserved table, we were given just the right time to choose our meals. Starters were exceptional and perfectly presented. The main course meat served on hot plates, vegetables in sharing dishes, perfectly cooked. The dining room is spacious and welcoming. Staff were polite, efficient and seemed to be working well as a team. Everything on the menu is very competitively priced and portions are more than adequate. Had not dined at The Corbett Arms for a little while but will certainly be returning soon. Recommended.

Can I first say what a lovely venue Right that’s the only nice bit sorry . I have never been made to feel so rushed to eat and leave a restaurant We were rushed to order eat and then stood over by the not so lovely Steph to pay I know we only had a 2 hour window eat but this was 2 hours and 7 minutes I will not be returning

A good place to eat in some lovely grounds which is quite close to the river. There is lots of space in all dining areas. They can cater for large parties, we were with guide dogs which they made very welcome.

We went for a family Christmas meal on Friday 8th December. We had a circular table, which was ideal for our family catch-up. The food was excellent and plentiful . Well presented and delicious. The service was 5* our waitor was very attentive but not overboard. The Ambience of Christmas atmosphere surrounded us.

Pre-booked Christmas lunch here today was excellent. Christmas-time meals can tend to be rather average in some restaurants. Not here. Good sized sized portions, properly cooked and presented. Service prompt and friendly. Definitely recommended.

A family gathering followed by a buffet. Must say the chips were top class. Plenty of parking and friendly helpful staff.

We had the best Sunday lunch ever

Have had Sunday Lunch here on several occasions, and the food is always delicious 😋 I chose the roast beef, and was then asked whether I'd prefer pink or well done meat. I prefer my meat a little pink, so was pleased to be offered the choice. When ordering, I also requested that my meat be cut up for me, as this is something I have great difficulty with. I've asked this in different places before with oddly mixed results, but at The Corbet Arms I was listened to, and my meat arrived cut into decent sized pieces to eat easily. The meat was lovely too. Very tender and plenty of it too! The vegetables were served separately, to share between us. We were a party of 4, and managed to eat all the vegetables bought out but didn't need any more. The roast potatoes were perfection! I love my puds, so even though I was pretty full, I had to have a pud. Especially as I'd already seen my favourite Biscoff cheesecake on the menu. If you like biscoff, then you really need to try this - it's amazing! So in conclusion, we had a great time here, with a great atmosphere, service and most importantly delicious food! Get yourself in there for a Sunday lunch, but probably best to reserve a table first!

Been here a few times, but the most recent trip was slightly disappointing. Went for lunch on Saturday afternoon, the staff member who greeted us clearly had no interest in greeting people, never once tried to come across as welcoming, showed us to our table and immediately walked off and went back to talking to the other people on service. The food was good we had sandwiches and burgers, but the chips all tasted slightly weird and had a strange aftertaste (they were also very undercooked) but the sandwiches and burgers were all tasty. It got very busy 30mins after we all arrived, so i can accept some differences in food quality, but the staff (apart from the bar) weren't really very approachable and seemed more interested in talking to each other.

We recently visited for a late Sunday lunch very impromptu family get together there was 8 of us at 5pm. We could honestly not fault a single thing the food was absolutely beautiful and all served pipping hot and the service was amazing it's not...

We've always been very pleased with the food and the service however the last two Sundays we have both been very disappointed. The previous Sunday when the food was served (roast beef) the food was cold. We raised a concern regarding this and the waitress apologised and promptly took the food away. I was extremely surprised when she returned that the food had just been reheated in a microwave. Every thing had been warmed including the horseradish source. This, in my opinion, was not acceptable. We should have been served a fresh hot meal. We did eat the food only due to the time as if we had left to go elsewhere it would have been to late. I would also point out that I'm aware that two other tables returned their food due to it being cold. We love the Corbett Arms that much and we thought it was a one off so we decided to book again for the following weekend Sunday 22nd October. Unfortunately we've been disappointed again as the beef, Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes were not hot but the vegetables were. The cut /joint of beef was also not the best, never had this issue before. Also I would like to point out that your menu states the meal, we normally opt for (beef), is served with fresh vegetables, roast potatoes, carrot & swede mash and home made gravy. Last night my partner queried with the waitress why we had no been served the carrot and swede mash. The response was sorry we've ran out. As I said before we've been coming on a Sunday for dinner very regularly,on the evening. I can not recall the last time we were served carrot and swede mash. Surely you haven't run out for the last 3-4 months? We both love love the Corbett Arms but after being disappointed on the last two occasions we are now considering dinning elsewhere on a Sunday. So very disappointing.... been here many times always praising staff and the food... but how different yesterday was. Service absolute rubbish table not cleaned or made up. Had to ask staff for cutlery and to order. Usually I tell people whatever time you go its always perfect, how wrong was I.... our soup came out talk about boiling they must have microwaved it for 10 minutes... burnt our mouths. As for the Sunday lunch total opposite.... Cold!!!! We complained they took it back and unbelievable they microwaved it which made the fat come out of roast potatoes... it was awful. Unfortunately we won't be rushing back... not sure if chef has changed .... the waiting on staff certainly have and not for the better ... such a shame as that was the best Sunday lunch around.

I had steak ale pie chips peas . I can honestly say the worse chips I've ever had I asked for English mustard I got some cheap mustard which could not disguise the awful taste the chips left . The pie was pretty awful ....

Visited with family for Saturday afternoon meal. Good menu selection, nice friendly atmosphere, great food. We all had the gammon which was cooked to perfection. Sweets and coffees after were delicious - great service, nothing is too much trouble and we are now frequent return customers. Arriving at 3pm its a nice time of the day to eat there, just after the lunchtime rush and before it gets too busy for evening service.

Fabulous location, friendly service, good food and a comfortable, quiet, well equipped room...oh and a fabulous full English breakfast...first class.

Tonight was a family meal , to celebrate a 70th Bithday for my partners dad. 17 people and all food was lacking, All preordered. The ploughman's lunch had been premade.( salad was a few wilted leaves drowned in a sauce. Apple was in peices and...

The room was brilliant and amazingly priced considering what is included. The air con was very welcome amidst the heatwave too. Would definitely stay again. The check in was awkward as we stood for around 8 minutes at the designated area before a staff member even acknowledged us. Other than that there are no complaints.

Lovely Sunday lunch with family. Very limited choice of mains for veggies, lots of options for meat eaters. Great kids menu and choices of lighter bites if you don’t fancy a roast. Good service. Recommend booking in advance to ensure you get a table.

We have visited the corbet Arms several times and have never been disappointed. We had dinner on 16/9/23 and we were sat at a round table just beside where the servers are. It wasn't overly busy when we were there so the group of young waitresses used this area to stand around and have a chat right beside where we were seated. It was very distracting and difficult to have our own conversation because we could clearly hear them talking. Twice I had to ask for silverware and my husband had to go to the bar to get his own drink. The food was delicious tho my carrots were cold, which was rectified quickly. I did have to ask for the chips that we ordered as these didn't come out with the rest of the food. Overall, lovely food but the service and attention to detail was lacking.

Went there for Sunday lunch. Have used it on a number of occasions but this time I booked a late sitting food not so good. I felt the veg was cooked early in the day and it dry. So if you want a good value s Sunday lunch go early

UPDATE: See original review below this update, which was a very positive 5*. As of September 2023 : The Corbet Arms has either changed owners or management and chef(s). We had a Sunday lunch today and it was one of the worst we (as a group) have ever had. Avoid at all costs, go elsewhere. We tried to be constructive and helpful by saying that the Stilton & Broccolli soup was not good (we were being polite), it was actually inedible, the three of us that ordered it, sent it back. This garnered chuckles from the serving staff. There were many other food items that were very bad, the roast potatoes were at least three days old given that you needed a road drill to open/get into them, the veg supplied was both over and under cooked, the Yorkshire puddings were burnt to a crisp, those are the highlights! There were many other things that were substandard. None of this was taken on by the staff after we gave them feedback. The service was also incredibly bad, likely through lack of training. Finally, it was far, far less busy than we were used to, obviously people voting with their feet and not booking for food. My group will do exactly the same in future and avoid this place. Such a shame - is had been very good for very many years. Once again, avoid this place, the food here is definitely not worth any where near what they are charging for it and the service is pretty dire. Our group will not be returning until we hear of an ownership or chef change. Original review, some 3 years ago : I have never had a bad meal at the Corbet Arms. Visiting shrewsbury in our caravan and came here for Sunday meal Absolutely the best food I have had for a long time . The roast lamb and pork were absolutely beautiful veg lovely and potatoes. Cheese cake and bakewell to die for Place was spotless...

Smelt of burnt bacon on entrance so only had a coffee. Not a good sign on entry and you shouldn't be able to smell it in the dining area.

TBH it has been a while since I went there and I only had a beer this time as I needed a few minutes to do some paperwork - a Staropramen at FIVE POUNDS AND EIGHTY PENCE ☹️😭. It wasn't even a full pint. Plenty of folk eating though and they looked very happy. Lovely terrace and garden area at the rear. Interior was very well set out and looked well maintained.
