Called in today for a nice lunch, but very dark and uninviting, could it be closed ? Once we were inside we were informed that only coffee was available, no food whatsoever. Having looked at Facebook reviews this place looked great but it turned out to be a waste of a journey so we spent our money elsewhere and will not try again. Very disappointing.

Lovely staff but staff unable to tell me choices of soup or quiche of the day only to find there were none at all. No small plates e.g. sandwiches, jacket potato, know it’s a bistro cafe but when all meals are £10 and above with no other option is disappointing. Toilets disgusting they need to check them, blood in sink in unisex toilets rather put off so left.

Quite nice and would definitely visit again, although the visit could have been improved somewhat. The warm drinks for the children were served far too hot which seemed a little dangerous, and one of the meals served could have been improved as it lacked flavour, but otherwise the visit was nice and would happily give it another visit.

Visited today with a local Wemian, very good recommendation by her to go to the Maypole. We both had Eggs Royale, the eggs were poached to perfection and the hollandaise sauce was gorgeous. It was served on a muffin with tasty salmon. We ordered some twice cooked chips to share, also very good. Drinks wise we ordered a cappuccino and a pot of tea. I asked for skimmed milk and some extra hot water with the tea, both were happily provided. I have to say the pot of tea was a generous size anyway. The price was £21 for both of us and that was fine for the quality of the food and drinks. Such a shame we didn’t have time for a piece of tasty looking cake. There were specials on the board including baked potatoes and soup options. The service was great and the loo clean. Top marks from us, we will return.

With friends we returned to the Maypole Court Bistro in Wem and had an excellent meal...it is a fun, friendly little dining spot where you have a bit of a wait for your meal since everything is cooked up upon ordering but it is oh so worth that little bit of a wait! The two women who run this fine establishment work extremely hard at what they do and it pays off in spades. We had a delightful time and delicious food (which is excellent value for money) and hope to return one more time before our departure. It was a splendid repast!

My son ordered the burger. It arrived cremated on the outside and raw in the middle. I informed the waitress who took it back to the kitchen only to be replaced with another burger that was worse. Both were raw in the middle. This is a health hazard. The chef either needs training or replacing. Very disappointed and concerned for my son’s health.

We did so and we were greeted by a very pleasant lady who showed us to our table up a few steps on the higher level. We chose a lemonade each which came in various flavours and was lovely and was made locally, good that they support local businesses. My friend chose mushroom soup from the specials board which came with artisan bread and butter. I chose a club sandwich which also had artisan bread, toasted with plenty of butter. Maypole Court is a charming and unexpected addition to the village of Wem. They offer a range of options, providing a pretty extensive menu. My husband ordered the scrambled eggs, with salmon and was truly delighted with his meal. I ordered poached eggs with a gluten free muffin. The eggs were served hard in the middle. I apologized to the server and asked her to please have it remade, as the eggs were overcooked. By time my food came out my husband had already finished his meal and his coffee. Slicing through the eggs I was confronted with flaky, hard yellow. Disappointment ... I starving at this point. I called the server over and pointed it out to her. She offered to have it taken back stating, "Im sorry you do not like your meal." It is not a matter of not liking something or liking something, the eggs were overcooked...twice. The poached eggs were taken off of the bill, but it is still a matter of principle. If you are going to serve poached eggs, please do not burn them over and over and again and then state, "I am sorry you did not like your meal." Because I would have, if my meal was not prepared incorrectly. Everything else about the cafe was lovely. I would give it a second chance, as my husband enjoyed his meal, but next time I will definitely order the soup.

We were in Wem visiting family and stumbled across this lovely bistro/cafe after seating ourselves which meant that we sat in just the right spot for us we were promptly greeted by a charming lady who took our drink order and she also went through the menu and the specials of the day, we were spoilt for choice! When the drinks arrived they were one of the nicest coffees that we have tasted in a long while, however my wife found it a little strong so the waitress went out of her way to do a "1 shot cap" to quote the lady which was perfect, the little homemade biscuit on the side with the service was such a lovely touch. We ordered one hot mackerel sandwich and one pie off the special board which was a steak and kidney suet and thyme topped pie, our food arrived with little wait even though it was busy by now, both meals were so good that you could see and taste the quality of the ingredients and when the waitress came to ask if everything was alright we questioned her on where the delicious bread has been source from. We were told that when ever possible all the produce is sourced locally in fact the bread is from a baker locally who delivers daily and all the meat is from the butchery which is only up the road in Wem nd the waitress told us to try their sausages and she was right as we bought some after and they were the best we have ever had! We were so full after that we couldn't manage one of the delicious looking cakes that are on show under glass covers so tempting but we will have to return before our visit comes to an end.

The Bistro is situated in a lovely courtyard and is a beautifully intimate venue.Having been to the bistro whilst under previous ownership I was ALWAYS impressed with the very warm reception and lovely food, however, these days I would say the reception I have received has been nothing more than luke warm. The waitress is capable of a warm reception as shown to customers she knows, I would expect a warm reception whether you are a regular visitor or an occasional visitor.I went there on Saturday with a friend and we were left hanging at the door, there was only 1 table free, which of course is always a good sign, I was hoping the waitress would invite us in confirming that the vacant table was not reserved, there was no acknowledgement so we seated ourselves, not a big problem but still no mention that they'd be with us shortly. Anyway the rest of the visit was lovely. The food was tasty, fish finger sandwiches, yummy and the waiter, I think his name was Prentice, was very pleasant and definitely has the potential to be excellent waiter. My next visit was just three days later, today Tuesday, it was quite disappointing. Once again as we entered we seated ourselves, it was quiet only 3 tables taken. The waitress came over and took our order. My partner ordered a club sandwich, which my understanding of this is three layers of bread with a filling of chicken, bacon, lettuce and Mayo, there were only two slices of bread, however this was enough a quite tasty. I ordered a smoked mackerel sandwich, when mine arrived it a was A single slice of bread ( now this was a small slice of tinned loaf NOT a slice of a large bloomer) both of these sandwiches are priced at £6.50 each, now to complain about the number of slices of bread all seems a little pedantic considering the goings on in the world but it was the attitude of the waitress when I questioned her about it. She made me feel as if i had no right to complain. She stated this was an open sandwich, she did to be fair offer to get me another slice but I did push a little further due to the price, I felt it was unfair, she tried to justify it by saying it was stated on the menu but this is not so, the menu states ON bread as was the club sandwich. I did get my extra bread, the cook/owner brought it to me with nothing more than a glare, I would expected her to have been interested in my feedback. When the waitress brought the bill I did start by telling her the food was lovely and it truly was, I asked if she was interested in my feedback I was cut dead in my tracks by her stating that she had discussed it with the cook and they would amend the menu to give an accurate description, I would expect them to lower the price if they insisted on serving just one slice of bread, this is simply mackerel on toast, however I heard the discussion with the cook/owner, the cook/owner stated this was her interpretation of a mackerel sandwich, personally I would say as she's the owner and obviously (due to not speaking to me directly and her response to the waitress) that it has more to do with profit margins.Had my points be received in a more pleasant manner I would return however due to the attitude of both these ladies it is highly unlikely I will return whilst under the present ownership.

I was excited to visit this bistro as my mother and I had talked about it for a while. It looked promising with a very attractive eating space, and a pleasant welcome. However things went downhill as we waited 45 minutes, with no explanation or apology from the wait staff, for 2 breakfast sandwiches, one BLT and a warm camembert. I wondered if I should go and offer help to cook the bacon! A couple who came in after us, were served their food at least 15 minutes before us. We had a reservation, they did not!I have to say, when the food arrived, my BLT was fabulous, but my husband's and father's poached eggs were rock hard and the tomatoes were cold. When my husband told the young waiter, he was apologetic but I don't believe he even told anyone about it. Could be wrong but we never heard. We'd had tea first and the cups and pots filled up the table space and were not removed even though we were very short of space on the table when the food arrived. Also had to ask for cutlery. £34 deserves better service and the kitchen should be accountable for it"s faults. The chef must have known the eggs were overcooked, and a responsible chef would throw those out and poach a couple more. Heck, after waiting 45 minutes, what's two more minutes! Probably wouldn't have written the review! Has potential, but wait staff need to be more experienced and chef needs to be able to deal with a full house (the place is not that big)!I do think it would be a great place to come for coffee and a cake. Those people all looked very happy and were served promptly.

This is the second time we have booked this little beauty - It was a work night out, starting with a meal. We returned this second time because we enjoyed it so much on our first try. (4 months apart)It is an intimate place, Which really adds to the warm atmosphere. Probably only 8 tables in the whole place, and far from being a bad thing, it adds to the warm, friendly and family like atmosphere. As we went on the last day of the month, we were treated to a themed night - This one being Tapas. It was amazing. Both the food and the Spanish extras that added to the overall Spanish / tapas feel. The food was, as before, very special indeed, and the kind, warm, friendly and welcoming nature of the few staff was everything you could want from a dining experience.

Positioned in a little court in wem town centre is a lovely restaurant the bistro.Inside the setting is quaint and relaxing and it is easy to think you are in some little french town! Our hosts were very friendly and the service was precise, polite and yet we felt relaxed. The restaurant does some lovely theme nights where you can put yourself in their hands and let the food flow .the food was delightful and well prepared and served, putting this with a lovely wine list whether dining with friends or that special place for two that wont break the bank then this is a place to visit.

I cannot recomend this place highly enough ... booked a place on my partners birthday but would arrive later than serving times, this was no hassle and the warm and friendly staff rearranged items to fit us in ... staff were warm and friendly whilst still leaving you to enjoy your meal ... the ambiance was lovely, a small and warm setting ... cannot praise highly enough

Wonderful little bistro, food is delightful and reasonably priced. The only thing which I can't fail to mention is that the loo's need a bit of TLC, not what I would have expected given that the decor and attention to detail and cleanliness of the bistro is great. I'll return readily if this one area (but important to me) improves.

We have eaten at Maypole Court on a number of occasions. Each time the staff have been warm and helpful. The chef is fantastic, the food he creates is consistently good and a real treat to eat. It is good value for money and I look forward to eating here many more times.

My Mum and I have just returned from the most enjoyable lunch at Maypole Court cafe/bistro in Wem. As we were aware that all the breads were home made, We started with half a portion of the home made soup so that we would be able to eat a sandwich after. The soup of the day was roasted butternut squash and chorizo, which came with a slice of delicious home made bread and was one of the nicest and tastiest soups I have ever eaten. The half portion was huge and I was a bit concerned that I wouldn't do my sandwich justice. When our sandwiches arrived, they too were lovely big portions. I ordered the ham and rocket which was served with a lovely home made coleslaw and mum had croquet Monsieur which was served with a large bowl of wedges. Everything was delicious,r the service was professional but very friendly and the atmosphere and surroundings relaxed. We will definitely be returning!

Well, the food we had here was amazing! We went with some friends on a 'themed' night - they have one monthly I believe. The theme for us was Lebanese. Now I was a little apprehensive and that didn't change when I saw the absolutely authentic menu - but my mind was out at rest by the lovely Deb who explained each dish. We didn't have to make any decisions as for the cost of £25 per person we got to have everything on the menu. All was fragrantly spiced, wonderfully cooked and well presented - great service too. We will most defiantly be returning.

My wife and I, with two friends, had lunch here this week. The restaurant is conveniently located just across the road from the main car-park. The staff were cordial without being intrusive; the menu was varied without being overwhelming. We all agreed that the food was excellent; in my case I enjoyed the best burger I have ever eaten, including the best bun ever; the three of us who had them agreed that the "chubby chips" were the best chips ever; and I finished with the best tiramisu I have ever eaten (which took the title from the long-standing holder in the Dordogne). We shall be back!

Lovely food, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and the best carrot cake for miles. Brilliant for coffee and a cake, homemade soup and bread at lunch time or a quality evening meal.

A lovely little cafe with excellent food and friendly service. The eggs Benedict brunch is delicious; I make a special trip here whenever visiting from Kent. Lovely coffee, too. All of the staff are attentive and friendly. Wouldn't go anywhere else for coffee in Wem.

There was me - Daddy -, my 5 year old and my 1 year old and guests of honour my Gramps and Nanna. Very friendly service. They were happy to amend the perfectly good menu to accommodate my fussy lovely 5 year old daughter. Everyone enjoyed the food. Pricing is fine but I would prefer to pay a little more for bigger portions - a thought echoed by my Dad. Nice place and nice people. Bizarre incident involving my 1 year old son hurling his plastic drink bottle down the mezzanine stairs which then randomly turned right at the bottom to continue down the stairs to the cloakrooms evidenced friendly customer who went to get the bottle for us. I would recommend this venue for food, service and comfort.

the cakes here are always a little dry, they look fantastic, but always past there best.the rest of the food looks ok, we were rushed a little, and a lot of the tables remained uncleared, although the waiting staff were playing on the phones!! very pricey too.

Having previously visited for a special lunch, I was really looking forward to the Maypole's monthly theme night dinner, this month being tapas. What a lovely concept - the place is pretty small and with a great friendly atmosphere, and everyone sits down at the same time to enjoy a set menu, so all enjoying the same courses at the same time and an entire evening's wining and dining. The tapas was simply delicious, with at least 10 different dishes coming out in selections of 2 or 3 at a time, and including favourites such as patatas bravas, calamari, chili prawns, meatballs, octopus and creme Catalana. Not forgetting olives that tasted as if they had just been picked! I have not had better tapas in any Spanish restaurant, including in Spain, and all in our lovely little town. Wonderful.

Been meaning to pop into this place for a while but, as ever, things conspired against us. However finally made it today (Saturday morning) and set my heart on Eggs Benedict. I was not disappointed. I have had this meal globally and it is a firm favourite for 'breakfast'. What was put before us was as good as any - two halves of a split English muffin layered with ham, liberally smothered in Hollandaise sauce; two perfectly poached eggs were the crowning glory. This combined with a couple of particularly flavoursome coffees (had to have a second) meant our brunch set us for the day in heartening fashion. Already booked in for a theme night. The only thing about which I am disappointed - that we waited so bloody long! Top scoff.

food is nice, but not as special as you'd expect from the price. overall clean and tidy service was a little rushed, taking away the plates before we'd all finished eating, although the place was not that busy. pasta a little overcooked on one of my visits. more of a café than a bistro

I regularly visit this bistro and have been meaning to write this review for quite some time!!The day menu is simple yet tasty and all freshly prepared. From home made soups and bread to an array of pasta dishes and sandwiches. The monthly friday and saturday theme nights are fab, last night being seafood... The platter of whole crab, oysters, lobster, prawns, muscles and scallops was absolutely amazing with tool kit provided to extract every last morsel! Without any question this place serves the best food in Wem if not all north shrops!!Well done to Deb, Vlad and team!!

This place was recommended to us by some friends so we decided to go together to see if it was as good as the other reviews suggested. We were not disappointed, it is a great place with a lovely menu which is well thought out but not overly complicated. The food was well presented and the service was excellent with a nice delay between courses which was fantastic. There are only four or five options for each course but everything sounded appealing and we were all impressed with what we ate. There is an adequate wine list and an appropriate selection of drinks available. We are delighted that this bistro is doing well and hope that it continues to thrive and the people of Wem support it. We shall definitely be back in the not too distant future. Well done Maypole Court bistro.

Honestly, it's impossible to recommend highly enough this treasure of gastronomy. We visited for lunch, where we were so impressed with all aspects of this bistro. After a really lovely warm welcome we were seated in an elegant establishment with friendly, professional, knowledgeable staff who helpfully answered our questions and even brought us tasters of the daily soup to try. They use fresh local produce, you can really taste the quality, even me being a non-foodie! The menu has a lovely choice of options, including delicious cakes and desserts (tried two, both absolutely gorgeous :-). Not only this, but all at a fab price. Try it, you absolutely will not be disappointed.

We have recently made our first visit to this small bistro in Wem. Immediately on entering we were struck by the attractive and tasteful décor. The staff were very friendly and chatty especially the owner. The lunch menu looked very tempting but we had come for afternoon tea. The carrot cake was the best I have ever tasted and my wife's scone just melted in the mouth. All the food is home made and most if not all is locally sourced. It is also great value. Although just off the High Street, opposite the library, it is a little tucked away in a courtyard. If you are looking for lunch in Wem it is a must. They also do dinner on a Friday evening. We are now looking for a free Friday to give it a try.

Amazing from start to finish. We used a voucher for the tasting menu that we’d been given as a wedding gift having never been before and were blown away. The service is great, not too overbearing but informative and attentive. The food was 10 out of 10, every single course! The bread…out of this world. So good we had to take a loaf home! Highly recommend. We can’t wait to come back again. Thanks all!
