The Old Coffee Pot in Shropshire

We had mushroom soup, absolutely delicious. Thick creamy piping hot, with a large chunk of fresh bread and butter. The cafe was full when we arrived, but they soon sorted out a table, nothing was too much trouble. Very very friendly staff, a well looked after and loved cafe, relaxing atmosphere. I chose the Victoria sponge cake, it was to die for. Light tasty sponge with a sumptuous filling, and strawberry slices!! My wife had cream scones, and judging from the ummm’s coming across the table, I would say it was a good choice. Full marks for the tea, not a cheap brand, well presented in old fashioned china tea pot. Shall most definitely visit again.

Stopped by for a cuppa and a breakfast bap. Lovely little cafe, friendly staff, great view out of the picture window, excellent quality bacon! Will be back!

I'm coeliac and had the best gluten free scone there, the latte was delicious too, staff are so friendly and welcoming and it's pet friendly too, will definitely be back, a lovely place to visit.

If only I could eat the lovely cakes. Excellent food well served. Last hot food orders at 2.30pm. Open from Thursday to Saturday. Plus take away Sunday Lunch.

Today I stopped for lunch at the Old Coffee Pot, where Rachel and Daz took good care of me. I opted for creamy garlic mushrooms on toast with salad... It was fab and surprisingly light. It meant I could then indulge in the amazing LMP (lemon meringue pie). This is the best lemon meringue pie anywhere and made fresh (it's also gluten free for those who wish to partake). All rounded off with a decent cup of tea, this is the place to chill and have a relaxed lunch. Even the Ella Fitzgerald and Sinatra music create a lovely atmosphere. I am never disappointed with lunch at the Old Coffee Pot and recommend everyone tries it 👏❤️

What an awesome place with amazing food and prices, owners were very friendly and cooked everything to perfection. And cakes are out of this world. We don't go to Oswestry very often but when we do I will make sure to visit.

Delicious lunch and very friendly atmosphere. We stopped by on our way to Wales for a quick bite and were quickly served. The cakes are homemade and look stunning! We took some to eat later.

This was one of the best cafes I have experienced. The bacon, brie and cranberry panini was the best I have ever had.

This place is an absolute gem. Despite the unassuming and small front, there is a larger area to the rear with more seating and a massive array of glorious cakes on display. We went in with our daughter (20 months) and the staff were super-accommodating and very helpful with getting a high chair and keeping her settled and entertained. We had a lovely time and the food was excellent. I can't recommend this place highly enough. Several years later and this is still one of the best places to eat in Oswestry - I cannot recommend it highly enough 🤤

A wonderful gem in town, cakes for everyone including dairy free, vegan, gluten free and all of them tasty. It's not got a big eating area so you are not guaranteed a seat but worth it when you get one. A small staff so on busy days service can be a bit slow, but when you know it is worth the wait you don't mind.

Visited Good Friday and so glad we did. The breakfast pancake was amazing with tons of sausage and bacon, tasty and good value for money. Cakes were lovely and fresh and tempting! owners clearly work hard and we very welcoming. Nice relaxed atmosphere.

Came in today with two of our own dogs and my daughter’s. We made to feel very welcome, as we’re all three dogs (even after they barked at a big dog and one of them slipped her harness and ran through the cafe). The Brie, Bacon and cranberry panini was delicious, piping hot and with a loved salad. My Husband had the Welsh Rarebit m, which he also enjoyed immensely. The dogs enjoyed a sausage each and lots of fuss. Recommended this place very highly- we’ll definitely be back(but with less dogs..😬)x

Lovely atmosphere and food was great

We walked in on a busy Friday afternoon. Hoping just for some coffee and cake. 4 adults and a large dog. The owners were very accommodating and sorted a table out for us. They gave our large but nervous dog lots of fuss, treats and explained the extensive home baked cake options including 4 of them being Gluten free. Wow….the cakes were amazing, the owners were amazing and we will be back knowing this gem is here.

A lovely part of the Oswestry café scene. Amazing cakes, glutton free included, and a good menu. Impeccable, friendly service from the owners and their staff and a fabulous Sunday lunch which can be a takeaway.

I was recommended by a friend when looking for someone to make a 70th Birthday cake for my sister. I have never eaten in this coffee shop, but when I went in and saw the cakes, I knew it looked very promising. The owners were lovely when I explained what I wanted, and I have to say the finished cake (chocolate) was exactly what I'd asked for. The cake itself was delicious, very moist and everyone particularly liked the fact that the filling was a ganache and raspberry jam as opposed to just buttercream. As a bonus the cake also freezes well! Handy for any leftovers. This shop will now be my first port of call for coffee and cake, although the lunch time menu looked also very tempting. Lovely atmosphere and extremely pleasant owners.

Really enjoyed our homemade carrot cake and fruit scones with tea and coffee. Everything on display looks lovely and very generous portions. Very warm welcome and good value. Will return and highly recommend.

Just as we remembered it from pre-covid times. The service was very good, the food equally good with a wide range of cakes to select from. The atmosphere is great and ideal when meeting up with old friends. Well done to the owners for providing the ideal setting.

We are regulars. Daz and Rachael are the best and make great cakes. My favourite is the lemon meringue pie. Daz also makes delicious stews and other winter warmers. All food is nicely served and the coffee is good. Unfortunately the Old Coffee Pot isn't open Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

Just called in today. The most amazing cakes I’ve ever seen. Staff were so kind and considerate, (even looking after someone who had collapsed in the street). No visit to Oswestry will ever be complete again without a visit to The Old Coffee Pot and Tearooms. A real gem!

You will struggle to get a better slice of cake anywhere. Some people say they are pricey, but given the enormous slice of freshly made high quality cake I think they are reasonable in price. We arrived late for actual food and they gave us some free carrot cake as they felt bad for us. Also of note is that our friend a vegetarian who can't eat gluten had a good selection to choose from.

Delightful ambiance. Friendly staff. Lovely view of the park from the sofa in the front window. Well presented, tasty food. Not the cheapest eatery in Oswestry but well worth patronising. Posted this a while back. It has survived through Covid-19 lockdowns and is still going strong. We ate there today, still as good as ever. I forgot to note previously: very dog friendly. 2023 update: still as good as ever. Had lunch there today. 2023#2: tried their take away Sunday lunches. Superb, highly recommended. Just ensure you have a good appetite, they aren't small!

Staff very helpful, food very good and well priced.

As a solo luncher I received a very friendly welcome, excellent service and very tasty, well cooked snack lunch - rarebit with bacon. The cafe is comfortable, individual and an asset to the town. I was only a casual visitor but it made a very positive impression and I would recommend it highly.

Amazing - This cafe is everything you hope a good cafe will be. Friendly, helpful, cozy, with an amazing choice of cakes. I couldn't decide whihc cake to choode so bought a piece to take home as well as one to eat in. The cafe has a real charm, including the decor and the people who run it who are engaging and clearly paaionate about what they are offering. For my jusband and I this is a real find.

I literally can’t recommend this place enough. We had such a lovely meal-the salad that accompanied our meal had so many different parts to it rather than just lettuce and tomato. The cakes all looked amazing on the counter and they had a special pancake menu on at the time for shrove Tuesday. It had a really nice family fun vibe and at the end the chef came out and did a magic trick for the kids. Faultless!

We visited last weekend for a family lunch all the food was lovely but I was impressed with the gluten free cakes on offer. The gf lemon meringue pie was amazing so good I took a takeaway slice home too! Lovely place with great staff, my Grandson was impressed with the chefs party tricks too, thanks so much we will be back for another visit soon.

Today was my first visit to the Old Coffee Pot in 2023. I was not disappointed, the service was great. There has been some minor menu changes and so today I tried the new ham hock & potato cakes with a savoury lentil and bean stew. It was fresh, healthy and tasted wonderful. Well done Darren and Rachel, another great lunch experience. Plus I opted to bring my piece of lemon meringue pie home for supper - always fabulous 😍 thank you all 👌

Met friends here on the way to Lake Vyrnwy. Really friendly and welcoming staff who were knowledgeable about gluten-free options. The variety was amazing, and options could be adapted. I had a toasted sandwich followed by scone and cream. If I am every in the area again, I will return. Thank you for looking after all of us.

Your genuine no frills delightful town centre tea, coffee shop/cafe. The homemade cakes are huge and delicious, love the plum and apple cake and cheese scones. My husband loves the bacon butties (local farm bacon). Haven't purchased their takeaway Sunday lunches but have been told they are delicious.

Used this the coffee pot for the 5 years we have lived here. Owner is always smiling and makes you feel welcome. Definitely recommend whenever you visit Oswestry. Thanks guys for the great food and brilliant selection of cake.

We have called in for breakfast a couple of times. Each time we were warmly welcomed along with our dogs. Breakfast is different. They dont do the full cooked breakfast which I would have ordered but they do a Welsh rarebit on panini with a side of really good bacon. It went down well

Who come I live locally , and have never been before , the warmest of welcomes I have ever known in any eatery . Ordered the Mushroom soup with a warm cheese scone it was all extremely good , homemade soup and a cheese scone for £5.95 , very good value . Will definitely be going again very soon .

Walked in randomly, was offered a table straight away, served very quickly, the Chef has a cracking sense of humour and makes the most amazing cakes! I just couldn't get enough! The brunch was hot, the tea was endless, the cakes are just to die for! Thanks for a memorable visit, I shall be returning in a few years, maybe on my wedding anniversary next time!

An amusing place, with the story of a guy who makes the most succulent cakes and lemon meringue, yet doesn't eat sugar! Had a great breakfast panini and plenty of tea and cakes! This place is an Aladdin's cave of wonderful food. It was a total pleasure to be welcomed by Darren and Rachael. The Panini was one of the best I've ever eaten. Everything is made in-house and the Chiabata bread is fantastic. Darren did some magic tricks for my son Alex and he loved the place so much he wanted to go back before we went home after our holiday. If you love cake you'll be in heaven. Next time we are in Oswestry this will be our first stop.

Daz and his Wife and team, are without doubt 'Top Draw'. He, was friendly curtious and genuine. He served me on Friday, and nothing was to much for him. Being both chefs and waiting on, allowed him to point out the new soup that was taking over from his mushroom that had just sold out. My partner had the best Turkey, stuffing and cranberry pannini's, she's had. My soup was amazing,and eaten with a lovely home made roll. . It was so lovely that we returned the next morning, and the had the pleasure of being served with the same courtesy by Dazis wife Ratchel and a young assistant . It was a lovely atmosphere. I am a firm favourite to frequent as often as I am able to. Congratulations to both you and staff. H.

One of the warmest welcomes I’ve ever received whilst going out to eat. This husband and wife run cafe was charming and the gentleman was very accommodating when it came to ordering our food. We got some homemade chicken and veg soup and a panini. The portions were very healthy which is always a bonus. We couldn’t possibly fit anymore food in before leaving but bought some cake to take away as it just looked too delicious!
