Bull & Dog in Shropshire

Had the steak & ale pie...fab. Plenty of filling, chunky chips and garden peas . Pleasant location, NO wheelchair users but all seamed on one level from the car park,(plenty of parking).

This place is fantastic the staff are always friendly and the food is amazing I have been so many times one of my favourite places 💯 recommend

Food was very bland and service was pretty poor.

Visited today, have been here before with friends, visited with friends and family today. We had delicious food, great portion sizes, grandchildren enjoyed every piece of the burger and home made chicken nuggets and they even complimented the chef too as they both said the food tasted heavenly. Great place, lovely staff and fabulous play area for children to play on and seating area for parents to enjoy seeing the children play in a great location. No rush for us to eat and leave like other places we have visited, very relaxed atmosphere. Will be back again

Lovely place with high end food at pub prices.

It was my first time here as we popped in on the off chance of maybe getting something to eat. To our surprise we were able to order a Sunday lunch at 8.30pm. Food was great, countryside location was perfect and Niamh who served us was lovely, very attentive and chatty. Will definitely come back.

My mum and I have been there during our journey back from Wales. The staff is been very efficient, polite and super friendly. The restaurant was well decorated, very clean and has a fireplace for the winter. The food was fresh, we had a steak and a mix grill that was properly cook and with homemade chips crispy outside and mash inside, real fresh buttered onion rings and not the frozen one. Probably one of the best pubs in Wales so far!

Great food, great portions. James at the bar was a legend, juggling the bar and the food service with a surprisingly busy Thursday lunch crowd.

Only had a beer which was okay but a little pricey.

Great food - first time coming here! Came as a party of 4, we all had something different and all dishes were brilliant! I had the sausage and mash, went for the normal size, however I could of sized down as I didn't manage it all!

We have popped in from time to time and have always found it a nice pub with friendly locals and a lovely beer garden. However I will not be returning after the way I was talked to by the manager James. Our dog is lively and has spent the last six weeks recovering from a broken leg, upon entering the pub he was very excited to say the least. I approached the bar to order some drinks when the manager commented very loudly that my dog was loud. I nervously tried to explain that he wasn’t normally like this but felt so embarrassed that I hurriedly payed for one drink and sat outside. As someone who has worked in hospitality all my working life I am aghast that the manager would speak to a customer like this. We will never set foot in that pub again period ..

As a local I have been a staunch regular of the bull and dog for many years and have spent many a memorable Friday night with my fellow locals and met plenty of lovely people who find the dog and bull by accident. This time I was entertaining a client of mine who after our business meeting asked if there were any decent pubs as he fancied a drink. Straightaway I said let’s go to my favourite pub. I have not been at the bull for a while due to ill health but knew that it would be the same old bull and dog, welcoming and warm. As soon as we walked to the bar I noticed a new barman who I had never seen before. A quite short guy whose age was hard to tell as he dressed young and had a young hairstyle but from his face looked about 40ish. To say that this guy was arrogant from the off is an understatement and he talked to my client in a most horrible abrupt manner. After we both sat down near to the bar, I made it a point to see how this barman/manager?was talking to customers and he also talked to them in a very abrupt and arrogant manner. I really do not know how long this guy has been at the dog but his attitude stinks and after talking with my fellow locals, they have all said that he is ruining our local with his arrogant attitude. After many many lovely years spent at my local, the bull and dog, sadly I will be giving it a miss until this guy has either left or is sacked and from the sounds from my neighbours, they are saying the same. How one person can completely ruin a pub is shocking but this guy has.

Some of the staff really let this place down. Not sure if there is a manager, if there is, he hasn’t hit puberty yet and hasn’t learned the notion of customer service. I don’t think either will occur for very long time

Staying at old rectory hotel for couple of nights and this place Bull & Dog was highly recommended by the hotel and locals and it did not disappoint, atmosphere was beautiful with real log fire, very spacious inside so your not on top of each other eating, food was really good and large portions and staff were very polite and friendly. Also dog friendly too, with big free car park and outside safe play area for little ones👍

Great food, friendly staff and a good choice of beers and wine. We had a fantastic time with wonderful friends, we will return soon. Thank you to all the staff.

I visited on a weekday evening with friends and had a very pleasant meal. I would have to attend a few more times to give a more complete review but it was a good place to share a meal and I would recommend it.

We parked here and went on a long family walk through the back of the garden onto the public footpath. Lovely sunny day and great fun - Then we enjoyed fabulous good value food on the terrace. I had the philly cheese steak ciabatta - very good! everyone enjoyed the food and the service was very good - Let’s all go to these country pubs as often as we can because they really are family businesses that need customers - once they’ve gone they won’t come back! Love this place - thank you.

Brilliant Easter Sunday Dinner ☺️

Spur of the moment choice for a drive out and lunch. Large carpark gave a clue to its popularity. Courteously greeted and found a table on saying we were there to eat. Good menu showing some slightly different choices from the norm and with reasonable prices. Bar prices for drinks were not expensive. Service from all staff was polite and friendly. Would happily return.

Had a great experience with a bunch of colleagues, food was fresh ,homecooked and portions very very generous. Service was friendly and attentive .we meet locally every 6 weeks and this pub is the best yet .highly recommended.

Gorgeous meal out with the family to celebrate my birthday. The pub was busy and we had to wait a little while for our food, but it was certainly worth it for the freshly cooked, tasty food that was delivered. Clean plates all round!

Called in on the way back from Wales for some dinner, plenty of tables reserved but that wasn't a problem as we could sit at one until the time it was reserved for. Had the nachos sharer and haggis bon bons, served straight away and it's dog friendly too

First time customer here and I don’t usually post reviews but this venue deserves it! What a beautiful pub with friendly and welcoming staff and to top it all off the food is utterly delicious! I’ve never been to the area before but will return purely to revisit the Bull & Dog!

Great pub/restaurant. Food has always been amazing, cooked well and served in good time! Can be a little pricey but you most certainly get what you pay for.

Not good! Very pour quality calamari, soggy fish (and chips), the steak and ale pie was huge but was actually a bowl of runny gravy/soup with nominal beef chunks and an anemic looking pastry top. A shame as it looks a nice rural place.

If you want a homely warming meal then give this place a try. Traditional menu with quality product and reasonably priced. The service can be variable depending on how busy they are, so please book in advance. Very accommodating so I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. If you want a treat go for the pie special.

This was our 2nd visit to the Bull and Dog, part of a group of 6 and it was just OK. The staff were lovely but the service was a little slow on this occasion. When it came to desserts, it did feel like we were forgotten about. I, unfortunately ordered the duck which had clearly been overcooked with so much fat and inedible meat which I could hardly cut. Lots of, what felt like tinned cherries on the plate and it was just really unpleasant. I mentioned to the waitress, who didn't seem surprised that I wanted to return it and ordered fish and chips. They excelled at this point and a plate appeared within 2 minutes, which I think they'd taken from another order so I wouldn't be left waiting which was great. Unfortunately, the bill hadn't been amended but it was no problem. It's a popular pub, very busy on the Saturday evening and the food is OK, I just wouldn't be rushing back.

Friendly atmosphere ,good food and service

Context of this review: Sunday, mid December 2023. The pub was very busy with several large groups already in situ. We had booked a table the day before but when we arrived there was no reservation for us. We ordered at the bar promptly but had to wait 45 minutes for our meals (roast beef) to arrive. When it did arrive the meal was barely warm. There was no communication as to why there was a delay but we assume that they were short of staff in the kitchen or just overwhelmed by the number of people having meals in the pub. The support staff were courteous and even got a bowl of water for our dog. As this was a recommendation our expectations were quite high but ultimately were not met on this visit. I suspect that on a different day the visit would have attracted a five star review.

We stopped by the Bull & Dod whilst travelling on a day trip. We had a meal in the pub and it was very good indeed. We all had the Steak Pie, Chunky Chips with garden pea's, (small option) and it was still a very good size and very enjoyable, we also had the Onion Rings which were amazing Dog friendly pub with a good atmosphere and food.

Regular visits here and always welcomed by friendly staff. Good food too.

Lovely place my food was excellent plus good service

Food was not good . Beef advertised as served pink mine was well done and chewy ⁸⁸ìVegetables were very tastless . Leek skins very hard outside leaves just cooked then cream poured over very tasleless. Carrots dirty in parts and red cabbage overcooked lost colour soggy. Carrot and swede mush was very nice. Roast potatoes done In fryer just given 2 slices of potatoe. Husbands pork and stuffing lovely but 3 slices of potato definitely not value for money. And to top it all lady in blue and white apron came out of kitchen starts talking to couple at bar and she was stroking dogin cooking clothing apron etc with plastic apron over other . Complete disregard to food standard and health and safety at food act . Will definitely not recommend this eating establishment. Will say the man on the bar worked very hard and bnerver stopped he was constantly working serving and sorting out tables as seemed to be mess up with tables.of 6 . But he remained cal. And polite.

A fine lunch was enjoyed here with a friend. The ale selection is good and the beef pie excellent. Make sure you are hungry, or take the smaller alternative. Highly recommended if you’re in the area.

Cosy traditional British food fare with real ale to boot.Shall certainly return.

We visited here on our last day of a holiday to Shropshire and enjoyed a very nice meal. The food was delicious and everyone really appreciated the amazing tasting dishes we had. The pub is extremely comfortable and welcoming with some great seating areas inside plus a very spacious beer garden and children's play area. As we had our dog with us it was nice to find a dog friendly place to eat. The only minor issue we had whilst visiting was that one item ordered never arrived and even after asking a second time once everyone had their food it still didn't come, although they did remove it from our bill. Would definitely be happy to visit again when back in the area.

Went for Sunday roast with the family. Food was plentiful and top drawer, particularly the veg. Could not fault it in any way. Our second time here whilst on hols, and great both times.

A homely pub using locally grown food which was reasonably priced. Plenty of seating inside and out, children's play area and dogs are welcome inside on leads. Staff were friendly and helpful.

We had lunch here after visiting Hawkstone Hall for a Wedding Fayre. We phoned ahead and booked a table, which we were apparently lucky to get, it seems this place is very popular! I met a beautiful dog called Bruce, which made my entire visit worthwhile. ♥️ The food was good, it was a bit slow coming out, but they were quite busy. I had the fish and chips, it was okay. My friends had the roast dinner, one of which was the nut roast. She wasn't too keen on this and asked to swap her meal. The staff were absolutely incredible, they got her new meal out in excellent time, and they didn't even charge her for her meal and gave her a free drink! None of which was expected. The staff here are amazing, very attentive and sweet. We're back down this way for my friends wedding next year so we'll have to come back. I hope Bruce will be there again!

Arrived without having booked a table on a very busy Sunday lunchtime. We were greeted by a very friendly young lady who explained they had no tables left but if we would like to wait we could be seated in about half an hour. The wait was worth it the food was delicious and staff so helpful. Would definitely come here again .

The staff were really welcoming and friendly and the food was perfect. We were a large party sat outdoors but all of the meals arrived at a similar time with no issues. Great service from a proper pub!

Went on Easter Saturday and can only assume they didn’t think it would be busy, short staffed and waited an hour for food that was adequate but overpriced for the quality. Won’t bother going back, th here are better pubs in the area

Really good pub. Had dinner with family today and both the food and atmosphere was brilliant. The roast dinners were served with a good selection of vegetables. Very pleased and can't wait to go back.

Moderately busy as we arrived around 2pm without booking. Greeted with warm service from waiters and the barman. Very formative and were given menus as we were seated. Ordered at bar and kids enjoyed nice play area while waiting for food. We came for the Sunday roasts so we ordered beef roast, two pork loin roasts and two children's meals. The beef roast I had was beautifully presented and tasted great. The others enjoyed their meals too. Vegetables came separate for the three dishes of roasts ordered so it gave it a homely feel dishing it out. We ordered two desserts. The crumble and the choc brownie. I had the brownie and thought this was delicious. Usually brownies can get too sweet and too stodgy but this was just right. My cousin enjoyed his rhubarb crumble. Tasty and finished off beautifully with cream. Overall recommend the food and staff were informative and happy. I would definitely go again especially for the brownie!!! 😊😊😊👍

We meet here with friends who live in Welshampton, it is that appealing type of place that combines a country pub environment with a great food offer. Great ambience, beer is kept very well, the food is great and service is faultless. The only reason for not going the full five stars is the price of the main course menu. I object to paying £25.50 for fish and chips (March 2023) but that is the only niggle in what is otherwise a series of great experiences at the Bull and Dog. We will certainly be going back to this little gem, despite my pricing point issue. It is that nice a place to eat and meet.

Booked a table for 4 from 7.00pm on 25th March and shortly after ordering food and drinks we were told that the table we were on would be required for a Disco in 40 minutes. The waitress then proceeded to remind us of this 4 times during our meal, thus frankly rushing/harassing us throughout that meal. As a result only one dessert was ordered! The meals were not the best with 2 out of 4 being poor, 1 to the degree of having to have a replacement meal instead. The whole night was frankly spoiled which we reflected in a ZERO tip, something I can never recall having done anywhere before. From a personal point of view it is most unlikely we will visit again anytime soon, and definitely will not be recommending it to anyone visiting Lower Lacon caravan park in the near future.

We had the beef roast dinner and nut roast dinner and both were delicious! My wife rates the nut roast as one of the best she has had. Along with friendly, attentative staff it was a pleasure eating here.

A real authentic olde world feel to the pub. Warm and welcoming. Excellent choice in the menu. We had 4 of the sandwiches and they were all really tasty.

Delicious vegetarian ‘fish’ and chips. Lovely to sit by the log burner on a cold day and staff very friendly. Children happy with their meals too.

Fantastic , spur of the moment visit. They were fully booked but still took the time to see if they could fit us in (thank you chef). Great atmosphere, great location FANTASTIC FOOD. Best steak and ale pie I've had in a long time. Full of large chunks of quality beef, great gravy (plus extra on the side). I asked for the large pie, should of asked for the medium, it was huge (see photo). Staff lovely, great value for money...thanks all

The best fish and chips I have ever had.

Hadn't booked, just walked in and were treated really well. Friendly staff, couldn't do enough and the food was excellent. The whole thing was FIVE STAR throughout. Will return, next time up that way!
