Shifnal Cottage in Shropshire

First time here, definitely won’t be the last. The food was amazing and the waiters were so friendly. Really worth a visit

One of my favourite eastern restaurants. The flavours in the curry are the main reason, whilst there is heat in the ones you would expect it's not a priority here, the flavours are the important thing. While the service is attentive it is not over bearing and is professional with a healthy dose of friendlynes. I discovered this restaurant about 4 years ago and have returned multiple times and introduced it to a number of other people with great pleasure. If you visit ever, I and several others will agree with each other and recommend the Zafrani Tawa Kari. It is full of flavour and a progressive mid range heat. Also the Luhari Kahari is equally as nice, full of flavour also with a progressive mid range heat. Both of those are my favourites and the Zafrani is a strong favourite amongst my friends. The only thing I could ask to improve on is the selection of coffees at the end of the meal. Whilst an Irish or Floater coffee is nice I would love a flat white, latte or a cappuccino as an option. That said, even without any kind of coffee for desert I would still give this restaurant five stars. We look forward to returning to Shifnal Cottage again in the not too distant future.

This is a gem of place. Wonderfully friendly, with a superb menu. Dishes are extremely tasty and full of flavour. Loved the chilli & corriander naan. There is a theatre and humour from the staff which made our Easter Sunday meal a delight.

Went on a night out from work. Having worked in India I got used to the type of food in kerala. This was mild northern Indian food which wasn't really for me. But those who are used to mild food in a northern I didn't style will probably like. There is a big menu to their credit. The service was good and they tried to please a big noisy group. So we'll done for them

Had a really lovely evening tonight. Service first class as usual. Asked one of the waiters for a one off curry making up for us, we weren't disappointed either. Absolutely gorgeous. We loved the tandoori lamb sagwalla pathia. Thank you for making our evening so nice. Music very tasteful too, not blaring away like some places you go to. Very clean and modern place .

Been here several times and it has become our go to Indian restaurant. The food is consistently excellent and there is a very wide menu choice. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. There is plenty of seating to suit everyone, from a single visitor to a large group. The car park is big enough for even the busiest of evenings. The location is a little out of town but that means you don't get the drunks dropping out of the pub looking for a curry. If you haven't tried the Shifnal Cottage yet then I can thoroughly recommend it. Likewise, if you are a visitor to the area and don't know where to eat then it is well worth the short drive out of town. We have always just turned up and, so far, they have been able to seat us. That said, we have seen some busy evenings so it would do no harm to give them a call first. It's also very good value for money with pricing to suit most budgets. If you just want a simple meal for a reasonable price you will find it. If you want to push the boat out then will be plenty of choice on the menu to tempt you.

It was good. But only good. Sauces a little watery. Madras not overly spicy. We had a delivery and the samosas were delivered with incorrect fillings but hey ho. I ate them anyway. Naan bread were fantastic. We had garlic and onion I think and a peshwari. Overall not bad but when visiting again will probably look elsewhere to try something different. 😉

Visited on a Monday night as a group of 4. Expected it to be quite as it was a Monday but actually there were 5 tables taken and a good atmosphere. The waiter was excellent and knew catered for each table individually adjusting his ‘banter’ to suit - great guy. The food was excellent and appeared from the kitchen without too much delay. We’ll certainly retain to the excellent venue.

Cobra beer cold and moreish. Try it now. Seems previous reviewer went just after it opened. Try it now bud. Recommended this establishment to my mate and he can't keep away.

Located out of town, you'll need transport to get there. Pleanty of room on the car park, Shifnal Cottage is a converted pub and very spacious inside. We were greeted by one of the waiters who was friendly and courteous. The tables were clean with tablecloths. The order came quickly and was excellent. Mains are really nice, the naan was really nice. I finished with a floater coffee. Price was reasonable.

Ordered of these for the last 3 years, never had a problem on delivery, ordered the same food weekly, now they refuse to deliver without a minimum order, Il take my money else where.

First visit here, very good service, nice selection of regional dishes, was very quiet on a Monday evening.

Booked a table this evening for 7pm as a table of five. Unfortunately after being seated at seven we received our starters at 8.25pm. Food was nice. We then had a 45 minute wait for our main courses at this point we didn’t feel hungry anymore and left a good portion of our food. We paid in full but unfortunately won’t be returning again. It’s a shame it wasn’t up to scratch tonight.

First time visiting here, went for our wedding anniversary. On arrival staff very welcoming and pleasant. Ordered drinks and had plenty of time to choose what we wanted. A good menu selection. Food arrived hot, flavoursome and good size portions. Waiter was pleasant and a good humour. First class will visit again.

Very poor Friday 24th February 2023.Arrived 7.20pm table booked for 7.30pm 9 people told to take seats someone would take drinks order,man arrives 7.55pm for drinks order. Food ordered 8.20 Food arrives 8.55pm neither rice or curry were hot even though they tried warming it on mini gas stove before serving it to each of us.

Absolutely incredible, if you follow my reviews you'll know i like to keep my rating honest and solely based on the experience I had and this Indian restaurant ticks all the boxes, super friendly staff who couldn't do enough for you, one of the best menu ranges I think I've ever seen including some incredible vegetarian curry options and to top it off very fairly priced. We will definitely be eating here again.

The first of many more visits, I hope! Excellent and very large menu with many, many choices. The food was delicious and served by really friendly, competent staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The manager is such a lovely chap, absolutely hilarious and very cheeky 🤣 Highly recommended in all aspects.

Cracking restraint. That I have lived near for a few years but never got round to actually going to. Glad I now have as it was a very good meal with a lot of choice. More than I am used to. The staff are friendly and attentive without being too attentive. Due to the choices on offer I couldn't make up my mind. The staff helped by offering a double choice to try. Explaining what I liked and could eat they suggested a curry. It was really good and good to try new options. The staff couldn't help enough. Well worthy of a trip to enjoy a meal in a nice setting.

Service was absolutely shocking Manager , got in my partners face, admitted to over charging us and then basically said “don’t come if you can’t afford it” belittling us. Charged us £96 on 4 meals is absolutely Disgusting and talking to your customers like that you should be ashamed of yourself! Curry was so watery, may as well of asked for a bottle of water.

Worst customer service and food I’ve ever received, group of 20 people went, not one of us finished the meal, and all got over charged by 15% and then got told we owe an additional £100, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!

1st time ordering . Received order 1.20min after ordering despite being told 45min delivery, Food arrived warm to cold also tandoori mixed grill was expensive considering the little amount you get. Chicken Tikka curry was nice but the whole experience was expensive and not very nice.

It was my birthday and the table was booked for 10 people...unfortunately 2 of the party were unable to make it on the night ..the service was very slow the food was very watery and not much flavour..especially the korma..the staff made it obvious they were annoyed 2 were missing.. we were not made to feel welcome at all and the attitude of the staff gave the evening an uneasy atmosphere..and the long wait for everything was terrible..at the end of the evening one of my guests gave them some feedback..and they said they had feedback for us ...booking a table for 10 and only 8 ..bringing in a cake .(my sister had baked me a special birthday cake) and lighting candles and a sparkler this was in sight of them all evening..complaining about the korma ...they argued that it was fine .not letting them know it was going to be a birthday party ( we did ) ...the way they spoke to us was disgusting...the first time I went was last December I was in another group of 8 and it was lovely..they even gave us a complimentary Baileys each and that is when I decided I wanted to celebrate my 60th birthday there and was really looking forward to it ...I will never go there again ..the experience spoilt my birthday

Very pleasant and really helpful / pleasant staff. However the food was a little disappointing, and lacking flavour.

Well I must say I was surprised they could get in as it was a last minute drive past , but I was very let down with the food I did not want a take away as I find the curry’s to be watery ! We was not asked if the food was ok as I would of mentioned we asked for slightly spiced there was not spice in there it tasted very sweat my lamb was lovely but my partner’s chicken was dry and hard to chew ! Again if we was asked it would of been nice !

Haven't been there for a while. It was alot better. Service way better food excellent. 10/10.

Visited here as part of a large work group. Staff were very good and coped with the demands of a large group of people well. But I must say that the food was not as good as other local restaurants. I had a chicken balti which lacking in substance and taste not at all like others that I have had. Must say that personally I was a little disappointed by the experience. And if you are a fan of the Balti this would not be your best choice.

Nice meal when it finally arrived but unfortunately had to wait nearly 3 hrs for our main meal service was slow. Table booked for 7pm main meal arrived at 9.40 pm

20 min wait for a drink. Over and hour for starters and over 2 hrs for mains. Staff very apologetic but no explanation, no offer of any compensation. Will not return

Called up last minute on a Saturday night and was told there would be a table for us, but in hindsight wish we had been turned away. There was a 2 hour wait for food, for us and everyone else. The food that eventually arrived was… fine? Not bad but rather mediocre. Staff were great when we could flag someone down, but obviously run off their feet. No one asked us how the food was or apologised for the wait. Please hire more staff or limit the amount of tables/take out orders. I wish we’d stayed home and had takeaway!

Food took 2 and a half hours to arrive. Others in the restaurant took longer. Drinks were slow. Food was okayish. Go somewhere else.

I can honestly say that this restaurant is in my top 3 that I have visited. The choice of dishes and the quality are superb. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the whole place is spotlessly clean ( even the car park !). We don't live too far away and can't believe we have not been before but we will definitely return.

Have been to Shifnal Cottage on numerous occasions and have also had takeaways over the last few months supporting local businesses through these difficult times during lockdown 2020. Always have had good food and service until this evening. Two and a quarter hours to get our main course, appalling service with NO APOLOGY, NO EXPLANATION. Whilst paying the bill still no apology, based on tonight's experience very disappointed and couldn't recommend them.

Always have a great curry and first class service from the staff at the cottage.

Amazing place. The staff are delightful, polite, accommodating and very professional. The restaurant is spotless, covid safe and very pleasant. The food is out of this world. If I could give more than 5 stars I would.

As a loyal customer though lockdown I was very dissapointed to find out that my takeaway last night, with 10% discount should of cost me £28.84 1x pathia chicken £8.45 1x pathia king prawn £14.95 1x chapati £1.55 1 x okra side £3.55 1 x bombay aloo £3.55 £39.60 charged, absolute rip off please check your contactless and ask for a receipt and see the order receipt. It will be the restaurants loss as that was my last order.

30th Birthday Celebration in Muxton. Ordered a take away to be delivered from the Shifnal Cottage. I would like to thank all the Management and Staff for the fantastic meal. Poppadoms Mint sauce Salad 4 starters 4 rice dishes 6 meat dishes 6 vegetarian dishes 8 side dishes 5 assorted Naan breads All delivered on time and hot. To say we were all impressed would be an understatement. Well done to you All Not only will I be using you again and again but you will always be very highly recommend. Thank You Steve & Family
