Cowshed in Shropshire

When it first opened, the food was rather iffy” but now, it really is quite superb. We went for a Sunday roast and, apart from the huge pieces of parsnip (love it or hate it) the meal was quite outstanding. We will definitely be back

Was recommended to me. Beautiful place unfortunately I got put in the worst table and sat thinking why wasn't I sat by that Beautiful fire. I was sat under the crazy bright spotlight which made me feel I was on stage tbh. The big lights need to go. Try sitting under them yourself management. I actually felt like I was in a prison cell with my view the grey wall in front of me. If it had been busy I'd understand putting me in the worst table possible but the other tables remained empty. Waitress kept bringing wrong drinks. Food was OK nothing special. I was cold and just felt out in the open in that spot light while other tables looked cosy with candles. Please those 2 big lights do nothing for the place. I'd personally put some small up facing spot lights not directly light heat lamps over your head

I just had to leave a review. I dined here with a friend on a Friday evening. I had the duck, she had the chicken. We were both blown away by the food, so fresh, tasty and cooked to perfection. I wouldn't consider myself to be a "foodie" but I really felt this was an experience more so than a meal. Staff were polite, friendly and attentive and I couldn't really ask for more from a dining establishment

Fabulous food! All made in house from local ingredients. Beautifully presented too. The fireplace is a great touch and the vibe is lovely here. Best of all, the staff are welcoming and friendly.

Overall a lovely menu for meat eaters (as the name would suggest). Veggie options were disappointing, I think the moussaka is just frozen in portions and reheated when someone orders it. Wine list also quite uninspiring. Could really do with some help from a proper wine supplier, suspect it’s all bought from a cash &carry. But the decor is lovely, the staff were super attentive and as long as none of your mates are veggie I would highly recommend!

Excellent food nice staff at good prices

We’ve passed this Restaurant when it was the Horns Of Bonningdale, but never visited. Some close friends of ours had been recently, and loved the whole experience, particularly the food. We decided to go for Sunday Lunch to celebrate my son’s birthday. First impressions were the lovely interior, and the delicious smells emanating from the kitchen. We were given a warm welcome and shown to a window table. The staff are dressed casually smart, and we’re very attentive. They all looked happy in their job. The Sunday Lunch has all the family favourites, plus roast duck. We chose pork with scratchings and the duck. The presentation was sublime, and each dish came vegetables, which included cheesy broccoli. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the portions were generous. We had the 2 courses, and opted for desert, which again was fabulous. All in all, it was a terrific luncheon experience. We were very impressed, and have booked again in April. Highly Recommended.

Have not been to the Cowshed since it moved – Sunday lunch was very good.

Visited yesterday for our first visit and we were not disappointed. Our greeting was lovely, decor was very tasteful and the food we couldn’t fault albeit we struggled to squeeze desserts in so shared between us. We all tried to make different choices to test the water so to speak and found everything to our liking, washed down with a lovely bottle of wine. If I had to criticise at all, I would say that we were looking for someone to reader drinks a few times but if that’s all I have to say.. see you again soon

Just had Sunday lunch here with a family of 9. We have visited quite a few times and it never lets us down. A solid 8.5/9 out of 10. Food and service on point and the apple crumble and custard is the best I have had. A great choice for gastro dining.

Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding was excellent. The Service was spot on. Sunday iunch is the same each time

Awful food... potatoes salty, veg under cooked, pastry burnt, beef boiled rather than braised as claimed in the descriptions... no care taken, clearly food was not tasted before being sent out.. it was not worth the money... standards clearly below par for the inflated costs

They were all absolutely lovely, and were accommodating with menu choices - the brownie was brilliant especially, and we were very grateful for them for swapping out parts of the meal (e.g. vanilla ice cream instead of cherry)

Place itself is very beautiful but the food was very disappointing. We ordered 3 courses. Starters were lovely. My partners main looked as we expected and apparently tasted very nice. I ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad which was quite frankly shocking and tasted awful. I most certainly did not expect fried chicken (poor quality fried chicken at that), the sauce tasted like prawn cocktail and had a fishy taste, there were no croutons or parmesan... I've had much nicer chicken caeser salads at Wetherpoons for a fraction of the cost. As predicted I barely ate any of the main, and when the lady collected our plates she didn't ask 'if everything was ok'. It makes me very uncomfortable to complain about food in a busy restaurant so I hadn't complained on the night. We just won't be returning or recommending the Cowshed as a nice place to go for good food.

A nice restaurant for special occasions prices are a little on the high side. The food is very enjoyable

Family meal for 5. Atmosphere is very nice, comfortableand cosy. Traditional food on the menu was not good. Beef and ale pie with mash potato. Mash potatoes were so salty, peas were hard as bullets, pastry topping on the pie was burnt, the beef was just boiled meat and very chewy, the ale gravey and carrots in the pie was very tasty but had not been cook with the beef, the pured carrots was very good but its a plate decoration... so i know the chef can cook. unfortunately the ale gravey was all I had to eat from the meal. Other food that came to the table looked amazing, like sea bass and burgers... I wanted a traditional British meal after being away from the UK for 20 years. I most definitely did not get this. Come on chefs the traditional British food when cooked well are just as important as the fine dining each has its place on the menu. This was very disappointing.

This place is amazing. Been a few times to this and the old location and it just gets better every time. The décor is bright and clutter free, the tables are nicely spaced out so there's plenty of elbow room and the service is superb. I have no idea of what's happening in the kitchens to produce such lovely food, but the front of house is quiet and efficient. We had the ciabatta with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and the olives, this set us up nicely for the starter. I had the Courvoisier and chicken liver parfait with toasts and red onion chutney and from the first taste I was besotted. My main was the roast leg of pork with stuffing, crackling and pork jus. I added a Yorkshire pudding and together with the vegetables I was in heaven. Dessert was brownie with cherry ice cream. I think people may have spoken to me whilst I was eating, I don't remember, I was in a little bubble of pleasure. Loved it.

Went for the first time last night. I can’t believe we haven’t been since they moved. We had a fantastic meal, the staff were amazing. Especially Jackie, she went above and beyond and was just a beautiful person. We can’t wait to go again soon, we’ve booked for a Sunday dinner in December but hope to go before.

Good place to food and drink but a bit expensive

Wow great food great atmosphere and great service. Each and every member of staff were polite and friendly. Food was amazing and taste was absolutely out of this world. We will most definitely be back with a few special occasions to celebrate next year with big birthdays.

First visit after a recommendation. Lovely setting. Nice menu to suit all pallets. Good selection of wines and beers. Price are reasonable. Approx £40 - £50 per head but obviously dependant on food selected and drinks. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Definitely go again and fully recommend.

Me and my partner won a Facebook competition for a three course meal each and a bottle of wine, we we're so nervous as a disabled couple going out suffering from anxiety on arrival but that was soon put to bed by the warm wonderful welcome we had off ever member off staff. The decor inside was warm and minimalist with great views, the food was amazing. I choose simple dishes and my partner went more sophisticated, every dish was cooked to perfection and served beautifully. We will be going again and paying this time it is very worth it for a nice quiet meal.

The service and food at this establishment is consistently good and caters for vegetarians. They are wonderful accommodating children, particularly babies!

Been past The Cowshed a few times and decided to finally try it for an early dinner. The food, service, and attentiveness of the staff are second to none! We've already booked to go back for Sunday lunch and will be taking friends and family when they come to visit. I'd give them 10/10 if I could.

We went last Wednesday lunchtime an incredibly warm day and was after some ice cold drinks and some food. We had no reservation and were there bang on 12pm but Will and the team made us welcome. Food and drink were top notch and the setting is delightful a modern take on an old country pub. Highly recommend.

Beautiful food and service 2nd to none

Visited as a party of 2 on a quiet saturday lunchtime. Service was slow - 30 minutes to receive food. An incorrect side dish was delivered. Steak ciabatta (£15) was smothered in far too much caramelised onion relish which made the bread soggy and the dish too sweet. Chips were ok but nothing special. In general, the food quality was on par with a typical hungry horse / beefeater. They really need to up their game to justify their prices.

This was our first visit to the Boningale restaurant, we used to visit the Pattingham one. Here we found the same lovely owners, same superb quality food and service and lovely restaurant.

First time at The Cow Shed this evening and had the best meal I’ve ever had, cooked to perfection. Wonderful, chatty, cheerful staff, so helpful and nice the owner came over to chat too. Can’t rate this place high enough, the meal was worth every penny! 10/10 Will definitely be going back 😊

This was a last minute choice for lunch on a Saturday. The food was amazing and reasonably priced, although not cheap it was worth every penny. Atmosphere was lacking at the start but we were there at 1pm but seemed to pick up later when a larger group arrived. The apple crumble was to die for (large portion so great for sharing) The decoration is great and fun but felt the toilets lacked a bit of tlc. Toilet rolls out of holders, bits on the floor. Only one hand soap dispenser, and could have done with refill. Would recommend this venue.

The wife and I love this place. We highly recommend the Sunday set meals. We tend to visit every one in a while on a Sunday. You have a good selection to choose from. I tend to opt for the Beef and Yorkshire puddings which is very nice and cooked to perfection. Price is reasonable for a high quality meal. Above average price to put it simply but it is well worth it.

Great first visit, beautiful food, great service. Worthy of note, refined atmosphere, quiet but elegant, incredible top restaurant quality food. Beautiful freshly prepared incredible soup starter, steaks and deserts. We will be revisiting often in future. Thanks for a great meal, your chef and staff were wonderful today! Absolutely awful and over priced! We had a table of 10 for a 60th birthday. There was only us and another table there and If it wasnt for a party i would have left after the starter. They do not cater for children we had to ask for a child's menu even though we had 3 highchairs and were told chicken or fish goujon. Allergies were also not made clear we just hoped neither of the chicken or fish contained milk. Chef is definitely unaware of the salt reduction policy. We had 2 fish and 1 chicken children's meals that were served with adult starters and the fries had a months worth of recommended salt intake. When I asked for unsalted fries we were given another bowl of salted fries which we were told its just how they come 😒. When our mains arrived each adult made a comment about the salt content, it wasn't very nice! Finally when we finished our mains a bowl of unsalted fries were brought to the table for the children. When we complained the waiter gave lots of apologies and responded that he wasn't the chef but he was happy enough to take our money. I will never return! Definitely not good value for money. Very disappointed

Not the old Cowshed i had the sunday pork lunch poor food quality definitely not worth the money....great service friendly and polite but won't be going back in a hurry.

I heard a lot about this place and couldn’t wait to try the place out, the service was decent but the food was not. The starter was ok but the main was terrible, everything was a little bit too salty and for £30 you don’t expect dry pork with over boiled broccoli with what seemed like a milk residue it was lying in to be served to you, all honest the peas was the best part of the meal! Was ok but won’t be back again

Excellent from start to finish... Lovely warm welcome, given enough time to have a natter with our friends before ordering... Food absolutely sublime and plenty of it.. Their apple crumble is the best I've ever had!! The staff should be commended for their warmth and attention to detail

What's not to like? The food was absolutely delicious, generous portions and very well presented. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would thoroughly recommend this delightful venue.

Nice meal at the Cowshed, meals were nice and a good size too. Service was on the slow side even though we were only 1 of 5 tables in there. Main did take almost an hour to arrive. Nonetheless, nice food and nice surroundings.

Went here for the first time on Sunday for lunch with family and WOW!! What can I say, let’s start with the food first, everything from starter to dessert was absolutely fantastic, high quality food obviously cooked by people who care a lot about what they are serving, this is not your run of the mill Sunday roast that most of us experience, this is a cut above the norm, trust me on this, it’s top notch. The staff are excellent, they were giving our six year old daughter a lesson in waitressing, letting her collect the salt and pepper pots from the empty tables, worlds away from the usual chain restaurant staff that do the bare minimum if your lucky. The venue itself is lovely, the old Horns of Bonningdale, it’s a cracking setting in a great spot. Well worth a visit, you will struggle to find a better Sunday roast in the Wolverhampton area, or anywhere else for that matter. We will be back soon, thanks

As vegetarians we are used to not being well catered for. But the food served was very very poor. Risotto was my choice of main. Possibly the worst risotto I have had. Should be soft and creamy. This was on the plate in the shape of an upturned bowl holding its shape nicely! Which gives an idea of how stodgy it was. Over salted and overpriced! My partner had pasta. Mushroom and leek. The mushrooms were like chewing rubber. If you don’t like leeks you’re gonna struggle to eat at all. Such a disappointing offering for what is a classy restaurant. I would give it 1 star but the staff were brilliant and the place itself very nice.

This was the first time we had visited and we were very impressed. We were quite a large group but the food was served quite quickly, we had prebooked our food order. The food was excellent , there was plenty of choice on the menu. The food portions were very generous. The service was very prompt and all the staff were pleasant and efficient. The restaurant was very modern but had a rustic charm. Our group consisted of very young children to mature adults and we were all catered for.

As always a lovely atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. The food is always better than I remember, honestly the best beef I've ever eaten! The quality of the food is clear, and the chef is obviously very talented. Can't wait to return

Visited here for my birthday meal and cannot recommend it enough there were 4 of us, our meals were all 5* and the service was quick & cheerful. Well worth a visit!

Came here after being highly recommended. Service was a little slow but staff are all polite and well spoken. We came here for a Sunday roast after looking at the reviews. Meat was good but the vegetables that came with are all boiled and included no roasted veg. Cauliflower cheese was broccoli was cheese sauce over the top. Don’t get me wrong the meat was great but I didn’t expect boiled peas as well as carrots and suede. A little roasting goes along way. So overall average food pudding was good however so that’s good!

Food was sensational ! Lovely decor and atmosphere , there are only two reasons I’ve gave this place 3 stars , they told us when we got there that they didn’t have the seabass when we were told to send out orders 3 days prior arriving and was offered no token as a good gesture , 3 people had to have Hake instead . Final thing was the amount of flies we had around us when eating as it’s summer , constantly had to keep ushering them away ! Everything else was bang On , I would return , but only In the winter haha

I booked cowshed on my husband’s birthday . I had really bad experience. we was sitting near the back door. It’s fish pond out there with full of very dirty green water. As we were eating our food flies was keep sitting in our food plate we couldn’t eat and we just moving the flies away with insead eating our food. My 6 year old daughter spill gravy on her dress as she got angry and scared from these flies. I understand the weather was hot but they shouldn’t have open tge big back door where was dirty green water pool. So much flustered and had to move the table.. still didn’t helped. When i spoke to manager he said then can’t do nothing about it. They didn’t have any air conditioning there at all . Very bad experience…

First time visiting this place and would look forward to going back. We went for Sunday lunch. Everyone’s food looked delicious. I had the Sea bass fillets. The service felt a little slow but everyone had a nice time.

Food very good enjoyed the Hake very nice. Couldn't say much about the atmosphere as we were very early at lunch time, but it has all the making of a good dinning experience on a busy evening. Staff very welcoming and attentive and knowledgeable about the food. Our first time since the move from Pattingham hope they do well as not many fine dinning places on wolverhampton area

Appearance of food and place amazing. Me and my family didn’t enjoy the beef so much however lamb was cooked perfectly.

Food was excellent as always, service however was extremely slow. We waited 45 minutes to order. Communication to inform us of the delay would have been nice. The place was full and I surmised that the transition from the old premises to here has not been fully tested.

Been a while since me and my wife could have a nice meal together. Went for a Saturday lunch and I was BLOWN AWAY by the food. We have spent much more on meals in the past and around £24-£25 for a set 3 course meal really isn't bad at all. I expected a certain level of quality from it and it didn't disappoint. The chicken with smoky bacon sauce I have craved ever since.. salivating now thinking about it actually. The service and setting were wonderful too. It's not particularly close for us but a return will definitely be on the cards that's for sure.

Well what a transformation. We visited this place a few years ago, but has been improved greatly by the new owners. One of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. The staff were friendly, the service was good and the food delicious. The cost was also reasonable. Well worth a visit.
