Lovely cosy place. Well kept and perfectly served cask real ale. I believe they did a good choice of craft ales also

A tad noisy at night but it is slap bang in the town centre. Nice beers at the bar with a great beer garden at the rear.

Good food, local ales and service.

Staff were nice. Fish and chips wasn’t, the fish batter was soggy and the ‘triple’ cooked chips where not even cooked properly once.

This could be the No 1 pub/bar in Shrewsbury. Great range of drinks, staff friendly and attentive, and working hard with themed weekends. Food was amazing both quality and value. Did not book rooms….hence no stars for this.

Popped in for a drink while on a day out visiting Shrewsbury. Lovely little courtyard garden at the back.

Friendly staff and a fantastic old. The rooms are small but cozy. The floor sloped properly so you had to go uphill to the toilet! :)

Perfect Sunday lunch with the family yesterday. I have been here during the week for meals also and never disappoints. Great selection of beers and staff are always happy to help. Such a great venue with a really nice atmosphere.

My aunty & my very good friend came for Sunday lunch, it was absolutely spectacular, the food was all homemade, no hanging about the staff were absolutely fantastic, really looked us. Made us feel really welcome & not rushed at all. Very dog friendly to as my aunt bought her dogs with her, we just had the nicest afternoon. I will be recommending to all my friends & clients. It was busy to so shows how good it is, highly recommend, can’t wait to come back thank you cromwells xxx

Always a perfect Sunday roast and delicious full menu, friendly and efficient staff. Very accommodating to us and our greyhound which always makes it a lovely experience. Lovely beer garden to enjoy with heated lamps in winter and a nice sun trap in summer.

A lovely unassuming place. The staff were very friendly and check-in was easy. The room was lovely and clean. A little on the small side but what can you expect in a place like this. The only thing that needs improving was tha hair dryer! The price is brilliant to be fair and the bed was comfy and the room cosy. Would recommend for a short stay.

The all new Cromwell's has a very different vibe to the old one, it's loads better! Previously I had tended to avoid this place (see old review below) but a change of ownership has done it the world of good. Great selection of beers, guest special draughts and a beer fridge to die for. The food menu is a little small but packs in some brilliant choices, all with a twist or unique slant. From making their own vinegar to turning a bratwurst into a restaurant dish it's one of those refreshing menus that gives you something you haven't had before, or twists an old favourite to make it intriguing. Food prices are very reasonable, compared to other places in town you are getting good portions with unmistakable hand made elements that leave you feeling satisfied and not out of pocket. They do show sports in the bar area, so it can get busy and a little noisy. A family meal with children probably isn't a great plan if it coincides with the Manchester derby. That said, if you can get a table in the restaurant room adjacent then you wouldn't notice. Really enjoyable place, good beer and food, atmosphere and even a spot of people watching if you can get a window seat. I've not tried the beer garden since it changed hands, but the forecast is good on Friday so there is a pint and bratwurst with my name on it Edit: beer garden is still a wonderful sun trap, it is still unfortunately tarnished by inconsiderate smokers. It's a shame that either the upper or lower area isn't smoke free. You don't want to be eating your lunch whilst getting wafted by a mix of tobacco smoke and vanilla/cherry/tangerine vape clouds Old review below 8-10 years ago this was a favourite place, a group from our office would take advantage of the beer garden nearly every lunchtime through the summer. It is undoubtedly one of the best sun traps in town I rarely visit these days but popped along for an evening beer in the beer garden. Unfortunately, the thing that puts me off is still prevalent. Smokers. It is impossible to sit outside without the constant whiff of cigarettes. It is as if all the smokers of Shrewsbury choose this beer garden. I certainly wouldn't eat here purely for this reason If the owners ever make the garden smoking free it would certainly pop up on my radar. My rating reflects my distaste for the smoker atmosphere. If you aren't bothered by it then you would likely rate it higher

Dined 23/10/23 table of 4 Lovely friendly and very inviting . Staff gave excellent service couldn’t do enough for us even made our friends Dog very welcome with plenty of treats . Roast dinner was the best we had eaten in a very long time (that’s not including our own cooked roast at home ) 😃only joking . Exceptional value for money and would definitely return again when visiting Shewsbury again .

One of the places I looked at staying, being dog friendly. Another place came up, but wanted to visit while we were staying in Shrewsbury. Very friendly service. Excellent food. Excellent well looked after beers. I would highly recommend coming here.

Came in for a meal with a friend. A beautiful venue which felt cosy and cared for. Service was prompt and the cocktails were very tasty. I had the gnocchi which was out of this world! My friend had the halloumi burger and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were annoyed at ourselves as neither had been before, but we will definitely be coming back again! Edit: Also popped in for Sunday lunch with my family. Everything was brilliant, a beautiful spread and presentation was amazing. Two lots of beef and a fish and chips. Three very happy and full people! Beef was perfect and pink and the cauliflower cheese especially deserves its own shout out! All in all amazing. Staff are very friendly and on point. A great dining experience!

Food was very delicious, we had Sunday roast and it was the best I’ve eaten out in a long time, meats were very tender and flavoursome and good selection of veg, could have done without new potatoes but that’s being finickity, we still ate them.

Saw this place on Google maps when looking at visiting Shrewsbury. Friendly service. Excellent beers well kept beer. And the food, again was excellent. I can highly recommend the Pork bellywith a spicy pineapple sauce. My girlfriend had the cod n chips again tasty. As was the apple crumble and custard.

We stayed here for 2 nights. The reason for giving 5 stars is that we felt so welcome like part of the family. The staff and owner Nick went out of the way to make sure you were comfortable and happy and adapted food or drink to ensure satisfaction. Room was good, great shower. A bit of noise from outside being on a popular road. Would definitely recommend.

We booked a table for a Saturday night and we were sat at a table amongst all the drinkers in the main bar. It was starting to get very busy so we asked to be moved. The staff were very accommodating, and they moved us into the restaurant area, we had this all to ourselves which was much better. They were really attentive and made sure we had everything we needed, the service was very good. The food itself was amazing.

Stayed one night in a fabulous large room, decent bathroom, good comfortable bed. Very warm welcome, helpful staff. Didn’t use the bar or breakfast facilities.

Awesome Taphouse and Hotel. Nick (owner) was very friendly and helpful. Him and his staff provide top notch service. From the food and beer to the hotel rooms. I was comfortable, secure, and taken care of every step of the way. The hotel get booked quickly. I waited til the week before to book and they only had one night available, but Im glad I got at least one night. Thanks to Nick and his Staff.

Been a few times to Cromwell's for food and every time we go the food is absolutely fantastic, and is fast becoming one of our favourite places to go in Shrewsbury

Stopped for a drink and food. Wow! Wow! Wow! Usual pub food but with a twist. Hidden gem. Will be back to Shrewsbury just to eat here. Food was the best and the staff were friendly and Professional. Could ask for more.

We loved our stay here... We chose room 5 because of of the photos we had seen The four poster bed was very impressive... It felt firm to sit on but was very comfortable to sleep on My favourite thing was the double picture windows over looking the incredible house opposite The floor is wonky which just adds to the charm... Just loved it Tea and coffee making facilities provided in room as well Added bonus was the lovely sun terrace at the back that we weren't aware of... We were lucky enough to have sunshine and sitting outside looking over the rooftops and the church spire listening to the birds was just perfect We didn't eat here but have to say the food coming out of the kitchen looked delicious It's also in the perfect location so book a room and enjoy beautiful Shrewsbury ♥️

Visited for the first time for Sunday lunch. It was the best Sunday lunch we've had for a long time. The staff were outstanding, so attentive and polite. Will definitely be returning. And we took our little dog who was also made very welcome and enjoyed his dog biscuits!! Thank you fro a lovely Sunday afternoon.

Good food, (pub grub). (10% off for residents) Good Beer (real ale). Stayed the night, good room although noisy as it’s on the through road. Fantastic location in a lovely town. Looking forward to returning to Shrewsbury and seeing more of the pubs, shops and buildings here, wonderful old English town.

Only walked into Cromwells for the first time, no more than three months ago but would now class it as “our local“ Nick and his staff are amazing and always welcoming. We’ve heard good reviews in regards to the food and decided to try to them out this evening (Valentines Day) I can hands down say I was NOT disappointed. Every meal of every course from their Valentines Day Menu was phenomenal I literally could not fault it. Will definitely be eating there again and will probably be in there again by the end of the week for a drink or five.
