Summerhouse in Shropshire

This was our second time visiting The Summerhouse. Food was so good the first time, we decided to give the Sunday carvery a go. All I can say is wow wow wow. 4 meats to choose from and the vegetable selection was excellent. Toby carvery, you should try this place and maybe get a few ideas of how a carvery should be served. Staff friendly and accomodating as well. Thank you Anita and family

08.03.2025 - Lovely beer garden. Popped in for a drink with friends. Well kept larger lovely and cold. All staff friendly. Great service. Food looks amazing so going back tomorrow for a Sunday carvery. 09.03.2025 - Been again today for the Sunday carvery, was amazing food can't fault anything all fresh and cooked lovely. We had desserts, same lovely food, would definitely recommend the key lime cheesecake. Great menu lots of choices and reasonable priced too. Will definitely be going back again. Staff all friendly and helpful. Great food for great prices.

We booked here for a meal for my dad's 70th. When we arrived the place was busy but the staff notices us straight away and asked us if we had booked. The table was reserved ready. There's a good selection of drinks here. No coctail menu as there's a new menu being printed but it was not a massive issue. We ordered easily at the bar. The lady serving us was polite and ensured our order was read back to check it. For 6 meals with drinks and starters I was shocked how cheap it came out! 146 for 6 meals, starters and some drinks! We were told food would be 40 mins but we only waited 20 mins or so. The starters, prawn cocktail was a decent size and the garlic mushrooms were really good. Nicely plated lovely touch! Thr steaks were all cooked and presented well. Good quality steak unfortunately dads was too rare, they took it back and fired a new steak and he had a whole fresh meal not a reheat which we never expected fair play to them. I had the chilli wrap which was really good and my son had the special Korean burger that was huge and tasted great unique flavours. They checked in a few times to see if all was ok and cleared the table quickly of empty glasses even with them being so busy. The puddings were amazing again great presentation. The pubs clean, lovely decor, great atmosphere! Staff friendly and very hard working. The managers are hands on and really lovely people. There's a nice out door part too! We will definitely be back. We ate here as a family last night for the first time in a long time. So pleased to see it has been taken over since our last visit, the decor is so much fresher and up to date and it just feels so welcoming. The staff were lovely and friendly, 3 polite young ladies, (I’m sorry I can only remember that one was called Evie). They came and checked if our food was ok or if we needed any more drinks bringing. We had a couple of starters, they came out nice and quickly, were hot and tasted great. The Halloumi was delicious! The Presentation was nice too and portion sizes were perfect. We all had mains (6 of us in total) and we all finished our meals. We will definitely be coming back!

Bar Service only though, which is a shame. I guess that's why it's cheaper than almost everywhere else in the area. IT MAKES SENSE as staff shortages are a common problem with lack of public transport. The Food: The Sunday Roasts were £12 with choice of beef, pork, turkey, and gammon. A real carvery! Veggie selection was pretty good with 3 kinds of potato dishes. Gravy was plentiful and free. All the usual condiments and sauces available except bread sauce. Brussel sprouts are a marmite veg: either love or hate them. It was all fresh, *unlike Toby*. Beware you don't overestimate how much you can physically eat. Just because there's a lot doesn't mean taking generous portions of everything... you'll likely leave a lot on your plate if you do. Drinks are expensive in British pubs so £3 pint of regular Pepsi is not unexpected, but was served cold and fizz lasted. The Service: Staff were a bit preoccupied and a little disorganised. Teamwork training could help them improve and work more cohesively. Atmosphere: this is an opinionated topic. It gets busy. In summer it will become almost impossible without booking. There was a Fireplace. If you want a place with atmosphere, try Oaken Arms... Only a few minutes drive away from here. Parking is available but limited to inside seating. The outdoor seating has loads of benched tables. I imagine that in summer this place will be bursting at the seams with Cosford Airshow '25.

Regular customer as food is very nice and reasonably priced. Service is quick and Danielle is always friendly and professional.

Decent pub grub at sensible prices and a good range of beer. Neck oil is a bit pricey though. Staff very friendly especially Danielle who's recommended onion ring side order was spot on. We will definitely be back

We went for lunch on Thursday and all had cajun chicken and it was absolutely delicious. Staff were very friendly as always and i recommend to everyone. We are looking forward to coming again soon to the abba tribute 😊

Our first visit today and we had a fabulous meal! Staff were friendly and accommodating! The pub is clean and inviting. Food was delicious and could tell it wash fresh. Will definitely be back!!

I am not sure if the chef has changed over the past few months but I had a meal today (Sat 25th Jan), I chose the Chicken Tikka Masala and it arrived looking a little unusual, like Chopped tomatoes, but previously meals have always been nice so benefit of the doubt.. it tasted like watery chopped tomatoes! Nothing like chicken tikka at all, I advised one of the staff when she collected the plates that my meal was not very nice, my plate was still full, she basically told me I should have called her over earlier and she would have changed it, that was it. I am very disappointed in the service and the quality of the food! Not the usual standard experienced on previous visits. Not sure I will be coming again!

Visited the Summerhouse on Sunday 12th January, this was another fantastic meal we all enjoyed. A party of five, 4 of us opting for the superb carvery!! Honestly the only place I will eat other than home on a Sunday!! Always a great choice of meats fresh veg and potatoes and tasty gravy. My son went for the burger which also went down a treat. The team there are so friendly and cannot do enough for you. Couldn’t fit in a desert this time but I would also recommend, especially the banana waffle 😋

Worst Christmas dinner I've ever had. Ignorant staff, manager with a chip on his shoulder, shocking service. The food was cheap and nasty. "Fresh" vegetables were obviously frozen mixed. You know the type, crinkled cut carrots, etc. We were booked in for 2.30, and we got our starters at 3.50. This place has always been a good place to go for a cheap and cheerful meal. The new management are punching above their weight. They've tried to up their game and failed miserably. It was obviously just a money-making opportunity for them, I lost count of the number of times we were asked if we wanted more drinks, even though we hadn't finished the ones we had. £90 per head for the food, I reckon we had about £10 worth. £6.60 for a pint, I wonder how much it is now? Like I said, it was a money-making opportunity. The Oaken Arms just up the road, or any other place nearby, knock this place for 6. Avoid, unless you want a cheap meal, without the cheerfulness.

We went to the Summerhouse on Sunday 22nd December for a family Christmas get together. 6 adults, a child & 2 babies. The staff were so friendly & helpful, accommodating us all one table as our request, despite being very busy. The food was fabulous! It was great to see such a good vegan choice. We will definitely be returning! Thank you all for making our afternoon so enjoyable, wishing you all a Merry Christmas.

What a lovely surprise. Super atmosphere and a nice environment. In truth I had avoided this place due to a poor hygiene score I once saw on line. Credit where it is due though. We had fabulous delicious meals and prompt friendly service. 10/10. Well done for turning it around.

Visited the pub last week with our 3 children. Our very fussy 7 Yr old loved the place so much he asked me to leave a 5 star review and tell 'the boss' it was the best food he had ever had and the garlic bread was 'magic' The new owners have certainly put their stamp on the place and the pub feels like warm and welcoming with a smile when you walk through the door. The food is outstanding and portion sizes are very generous.. Not one of us managed to finish our meals. If you've never visited the Summerhouse I would definitely add it you 'must visit' list!

Been here a few times now and cannot fault it . fresh home made food , great service from start to finish and always with a smile . The changes that have been made in the last year to both the inside and outside make it a wonderful place to visit . we will be back again .

We visited The Summerhouse today to celebrate my mom & dad’s retirement. The service & food was 10/10. The food was piping hot, just how we like it! The desserts were delicious too. We will certainly be returning to this lovely restaurant. Thank you for a great meal!

Had a half chicken meal from this eatery and it was utterly unsatisfactory. A true insult to both my palate and my wallet. The taste and texture were as if it were simply reheated in the microwave before being served. Gelatine stuff being present in between the skin and chicken which was piping hot and gooey, counteracting the chicken and skin were lukewarm for a brief period.

Great and varied food menu (and very tasty) plus the bonus of 4 hand pull ales (2 from Titanic brewery!) Will definitely be back - thank you 👌

Beautiful place to drink & Dine, we have been a handful of times and find the staff to be very welcoming & Kind, food has always been great. I am so impressed to see such a wide selection of gluten free food! You can clearly see this has been well thought out, your ability to include everyone and offer a variety of choices to those with dietary restrictions or requirements is what keeps me coming back & is the very reason I will always recommend people to come here. Have to say, this is one of the best carvery Sunday roasts we’ve had in quite a while. It was busy, but having booked ahead we had a table ready for us. Great selection of meats, veggies & potatoes, service is very friendly, not rushed, and one waitress even took the time to ask how everything was. Definitely be on our must visit list next time we’re in the area - all in a fab country setting

Came for a carvery with my sister today as its always been my favourite place for a carvery i dont live local i travel from surrey so whenever i come over i always come here but wow what a disappointment the food was bland ! roasties were like stones cauliflower was cold gravy was like water only thing i enjoyed was the beef ! The staff were frendly ! The outside looks amazing but the carvery is a definite no no ! Safe to say i wont be returning any tme soon for a carvery !

Been a while since I was last here & never really had any complaints but must admit they have really done a nice job inside & especially outside (lovely beer garden) it was lunchtime midweek when we visited & not overly busy, when we ordered our food we were told there was about a 30 minute wait, no problem with that at all, food turned up 20-30 minutes after we ordered & was lovely all the staff were very friendly & welcoming, will definitely be calling in again 🌞

First time visiting this establishment. Lovely atmosphere, the staff very welcoming. The vegetable lasagne and three bean chilli were outstanding. I am looking forward to dropping in again sometime in the future.

We called in yesterday evening last minute for a bite to eat. Food was great, service was fantastic and the pub was clean etc We sat outside to eat which was a delight. The garden is beautifully done with all the pretty lighting. We will definitely be coming back!

Service doesnt even deserve a 1. Terrible experience, food average. How can you burn nachos 🤣. Long waits on food and no one in control. Many walked out, many had refund as they didnt want to wait for 3 hours after ordering after being told 50 minute wait. Terrible. To clarify after the response, 2 customers walked out, 2 customers demanded a refund, 1 customer was very vocal how poor your service was. 2 barmaids were overhead complaining that the customer was taking the pee asking for a refund on his drinks too. Sometimes it is ok to admit poor service rather than make out the review is wrong. To note prior to this visit we had a great meal. Last night was awful, 50 minutes i can expect thats ok, but you got it wrong last night, with 3 poor barmaids taking the brunt of it.

15/07/2024 - update We came to the pub as a party of 13 and booked in advance.We came to celebrate my nephews 19th Birthday.We have been regulars here for years and often come as a large party, booking in advance and never had these issues before.The pub wasnt busy there was a few small parties who all got their meals quickly including pudding before we got ours.Today we ordered our meals and everything seemed to be okay. We ordered a round of drinks whilst we waited. 50 minutes went by and finally our 2 childrens meals came out however my son (who has the same thing every time due to his autism and eating disorder) only got half his meal which really upset him - he order chicken goujons with chips and halloumi fries. He has to eat it all together due to his eating difficulties.We managed to convince him to eat what he had considering how long he had waited. We waited thinking our meals would arrive shortly after but they still were a while longer and they slowly came out bit by bit.My garlic bread (i had lasagne after being told there was no macaroni and cheese) fell on the floor by the waitress however she quickly got it replaced.My dads meal (chilli) had clearly been sat on a hot plate as it was burnt to the bottom of the dish. The chef forgot the halloumi fries. The waitress quickly sorted these out.When another waitress (who we think was the supervisor - the other staff couldnt tell us who was in charge that night) came to ask how our meal was we said we werent happy with the wait given how empty the pub was and we have had better faster service at busier times, She got very defensive with us. My dad tried to show her the burnt bowl.It was taken by the younger waitress and the supervisor walked off with it.No apology nothing.We ordered a 2nd round of drinks. When she came back to clear the table to supervisor was rude. We tried to talk to her about the service etc and again got very defensive. She said there was only 1 chef on and it was our fault because we all ordered different things. Its never been a problem before when we have come with much larger parties. if the chef wasnt up to it knowing there was a large party they shouldnt have accepted the booking. Needless to say it got heated and we left. We were going to order desserts. The young waitress was clearly upset by what had happened and she was nothing short of wonderful. Sadly the supervisor was trying to shift the blame onto everyone else and when told she was rude she became even more defensive. If we had been given a limited menu we would have understood but we have always ordered from the normal menu and it has never been a problem. We where going to come back as a large party for my sons 9th birthday on thursday but shall look elsewhere. we visited today as a party of 8. I was able to book a table in advance. my family are regular visitors and we decided to bring my husbands family.we haven't been since the new management but I have to say we were really impressed. the staff were friendly. they supported one another and worked well as a team. we had a large food and drinks orders. they catered for my allergies. nothing was too much. my son has autism and eating difficulties. staff were able to make the accommodations to his meal. eating out for him is extremely difficult but he loves the summer house and so it was wonderful we could go out and eat as this is not normally something we can do often. they adapted his meal and bought it out with the starters so he wasn't waiting. the kids ate free which was a bonus! the food was 5*. the halloumi fries are amazing.my son devoured his and his sisters portion.the pie looked delicious. previously I had not been able to eat the puddings but now I can! the apple crumble was yummy. the children loved their sundaes. the outside area is looking really lovely and is going to be a great addition once the weather improves.overall we are extremely happy with the quality and service and left very happy full customers!we will be back!

13 of us visited this evening for my grandsons birthday.We have been customers of the summer house for 17 years and have never had an issue in the past.We ordered our food and had to wait nearly an hour for it to arrive bearing in mind it was a Monday evening.It was OK except for a chili that had obviously been cooked and placed on a hotplate to keep warm consequently it had burned onto the dish.When the staff asked if everything was OK we told them we weren't happy about the chili and also the long wait.The waitress just turned and walked away no apology just attitude to be honest they all had dreadful attitude issues we were told there is only one chef so there would be a wait.The pub wasn't busy and there was no manager on site.we will not be returning to the summer house which is sad really as we have always had excellent service in the past

Had a fantastic 70th wedding anniversary party, staff we excellent, food was superb everyone had a great time at a great location, highly recommended

Staff, service, atmosphere, decor, just superb. If the weather is sunny and warm, will be awesome to grab a drink. Food though, really poor. Had basic fish and chips. It arrived within 15 minutes of ordering and was the very description of fried food - the fish and chips look like they had been burnt to a crisp. The mushy peas were the best bit believe it or not. The batter was absolutely tasteless too, basically had overcooked dry fish and chips delivered to us. I had to use so much salt and vinegar to give it some flavour- so dry due to burning the food. I did eat the actual fish and left the batter. Left most of the chips. Didn't complain as we were hungry, was partly edible and was a lovely day. The staff were also so great I didn't feel like causing a scene for them. I noted the same issue with burnt food including chips on the next table - their faces said it all, it actually went silent for a while - I think they were really disappointed too. If they can sort the food, what a place especially as its not cheap food too - I can prepare much better myself at home which is saying something.

Super friendly place! We visited the summerhouse for a carvery with our 2 children (8,2), I was a bit put off at first with how nice the outside and inside were, it looked a bit too 'posh' to be taking our energetic 2 year old and we didn't want to annoy anyone, However the atmosphere was lovely and it felt very family friendly, the staff were amazing and welcoming. We chatted with a few tables around us too. The carvery was AMAZING and one of the best ones we've had! My only suggestion would be adding a smaller carvery plate for littler ones who don't eat as much! Definitely our go to place for a carvery now!!! Thank you all x

Called in today for lunch sat in their gorgeous garden, excellent food and service and will definitely be a regular at The Summerhouse.🤗

We had a great time bank holiday weekend. The beer garden is stunning, well thought out, relaxing vibes and comfy chairs. Great live music and the food was delicious and reasonably priced (as were the drinks). Great service, the girls were all so lovely and friendly. Will definitely be going back to make use of the garden during the summer months.

Hanging kebab, absolutely gorgeous. My new favourite. Can't beat the Summer House.

So many improvements since new management, with staff being super friendly, welcoming and with good customer service. We have been a few times and have enjoyed the visits. My partner has enjoyed all his meals. I wanted to try something different off the special board, but I wasn’t able too, as on that occasion you didn’t have a vegetarian option in the board. I ended up having the vegetarian lasagne, which I’ve had so many times over. The price is quite high, for what it is, and I don’t feel like I’m getting good value for money. I would love to see this meal improve, and be worth the meal price, as currently it’s not offering very much in the way of vegetables, in the vegetarian lasagne. If it improves, then I will find it more viable at the price it’s on for, to re order. I don’t want the macaroni cheese, as that’s just even more cheese. Please consider offering a few good options for meals for us vegetarians.

Third carvery at the Summerhouse for us in the last 2 months. Overall not too bad, vegetables cooked to my taste, ie not too soggy or too crisp. Bit stingy on the meat today though, not even a full slice of ham on my plate plus a few crumbs of pork. After I had finished I spoke to a member of staff who said I should have asked for more meat Anyway too late for today so I'll see next time. Compare a 12oz gammon meal on their menu for a few pounds more, that may be my choice next time.

Some of the food was cold and I found the dessert was a bit expensive for what it was x

Celebrated my wife's 50th birthday last night and the food, service, atmosphere and value for money was really good. Highly recommended a visit here. Of note, the specials are popular and limited, so go early if that's what you want to eat!

We had a table of 16 to celebrate a 50th birthday and we have absolutely no complaints at all. The service was brilliant, we were all impressed at how the food was all served to us all at the same time. Not one of us had a complaint about the food all was served hot. Brilliant service and very friendly staff who couldn't have done any more for us. Will definitely be returning

Blud my food was wrong 3 times. I’m allergic to tomatoes and there was tomatoes on my burger when I specifically asked for none. The waitress was very kind and even wrote it down but the chefs still got it wrong. On the replacement dish, they brought out a child’s plate, still a burger but not what I ordered. On the third, I had a correct burger except no lettuce, I just ate it at that point because I was hungry. Bless the waitresses hearts though they were nice and kept saying sorry and paid it back except the drinks.

Had lunch here the other day. When l walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and friendly. Beautifully presented. Food was amazing and very fast. The staff were smiling and attentive and eager to please. Rachel one of the bar staff couldn’t do enough. Always smiling and accommodating. That’s customer service. I’ll definitely be back with family and friends.

First time visit and wont be the last. Luvly carvery with plenty of choice and very good value. My only very small gripe was, the sprouts were a little hard for me but that is subjective as i like them very soft and most seem to like them al dente. Overall a luvly meal and great value for money in a beautliful country pub with luvly staff.

3 stars on Google is classed as 'it's ok' and, in my opinion, that's all this place is. Carvery food is never exactly anything to write home about, in essence they're all just a slightly better school dinner, but my turkey was more fat and skin than edible meat, the roast potatoes were either dry and/or soggy and the Yorkshire's were similar to Aunt Bessie's to be honest. I imagine (and have read) the stuff on the standard menu is really good, but I can't say we'll be rushing back, if at all, to try it. For just under £60 we could have eaten at the Bentlands, had table service and a much better quality meal. Sorry! Edit to owners response: You can't have signs everywhere saying "leave us a review" and then when you get those reviews, leave glowing responses for five star, but leave salty (completely unprofessional) responses for 3 stars or less?

Great pub, lovely food and fair prices. Went here Sunday for a carvery and it was lovely, they offered four meats and a selection of veggies and potatoes! We will be going back for another Sunday lunch soon!
