All my family think this food is really disappointing as it was not at the expense of the food and even McDonald's can do a better job the Christmas food is tasteless and the Yorkshire tastes like cardboard, what an disgrace to a chief

This is an excellent bar just outside Shrewsbury town centre. It has bar food, bar games, live sports on TV ( not all the time, just big events) and entertainment every other Friday night. The pub is usually busy and if you are eating, a table reservation is recommended. The food is very good with a good selection to choose from on the menu. This is not a restaurant bar but a pub that serves good food. The staff are mostly young and are all very polite and welcoming. They are well managed by the more senior staff. Dogs are also welcome, Well worth a visit if in the area.

Technically The Bricklayers Arms would fall under “The Local” for me due to the location, The newly renovated pub is super open and welcoming, The fresh decor and outside seating (maybe not in November) makes for a lovely visit, With the addition of a shuffleboard table and a lovely pint of Green Monkey the pub is a pleasure to visit for a quick one on the way home 👍

I have been using this pub for 43 years when the Landlord was Arnold Bunts. My family and I have often eaten here as the food was always good value and very tasty. Today I spent £38. I have to say I was speechless with what was presented to us. Please see photos. My meal cost £14 for 11 chips and a quarter pounder burger which came in a bun measuring 2.5 inches served on a side plate. Sorry Bricklayers people vote with their feet. You won't be seeing us again. I have put the beer mat on the plate to show its size.

First visit to The Bricklayers since the renovation work and my first as a wheelchair user. I have to say as a wheelchair user I’m very disappointed, all the money that must have been spent on this work, but no step free access (you have to request a temporary ramp, not sure how I would have done this if I had arrived on my own?!) and no accessible toilet. The beer is usual Joules standard and the atmosphere and decor is ok but the lack of access and no accessible toilet means it’s pretty much a no go for anybody using a wheelchair especially when you can’t use a toilet.

2024 update. My local (same street) pub, finally reopened after a much needed refit. It does look 100% better, the toilets in particular have improved hugely. Stopped off on a Saturday afternoon to try the new menu. It's not a huge menu but there is some specials. The pie (special) was recommended so we went for that. First impression wasn't great, it wasn't a proper pie! Honestly for £16 I expect a pie to be fully encased in pastry and not be a small bowl of stew with a pastry lid. Really quite disappointed by that On the plus side the filling was generous, lots of meat that was very tender. Could have done with a heavier dusting of flour at the start to have a thicker gravy as it was a bit too thin. Chips were alright, crispy, light etc but again for £16 you might have expected triple cooked. Overall it was a pleasant enough meal but unfortunately wasn't special in any way so was probably about £3 more expensive than it should have been. Up until recently you could pick up a proper pie with triple cooked chips and home made brown sauce and mushy peas from just round the corner for £15. Pretty good overall and still quite new. Let's hope they can make the food a bit more special Old review Good value, no nonsense food. Keep an eye out for the specials board which has some very tasty choices.

Arrived on spec about 17:30 on a Thursday and bagged one of the last unreserved tables. Food wasn't long in coming and was great. Not an extensive menu but very well prepared. It is a Joule's pub and they had 2 seasonal ales on offer as well as the usual 3 core beers. Wider selection of soft drinks would be good. Finally, the recent renovation is fantastic. Overall, well worth a visit.

We arrived at the public house and ordered drinks, they offered a tab but we decided to pay straight away. Found a table then went to the bar to order. Three different meals were ordered and paid for, the cutlery and condiments holder were quickly brought to the table so they were aware we were eating. After 40 minutes we asked about our food as it had been a while and nobody had been to speak to us. We were told that we were the next table. When the food arrived we had been waiting over 55 minutes, we straight away pointed out that one meal was wrong which they acknowledged and took the item away. Not an apology about the delay, not an offer of a drink as we had been waiting and had finished our drinks. When the food arrived it was enjoyed but I felt the chips were a little overdone. My husbands pie was completely full of quality meat, which he enjoyed. Such a shame as we are trying to find a good local to use when visiting family who have recently moved into the area.

In addition to great beer, the food is excellent. We had the steak and ale pie and the fish and chips and both were great. Service was friendly and prompt. Booked a table for my partner's birthday. Very warm welcome. A wide selection of drinks. Small menu but did have a good choice of dishes. Didn't have to wait long for our food. Very good size portions, more than enough. The lasagne had plenty of meat in-between the layers of pasta. The burger was tall and very juicy. The belly pork with black pudding wasn't up to the same standard it was when I had it the month before. The crackling was chewy in places and couple of pieces were small and had more fat than meat but still very nice. Hence the 4 stars instead 5. Toilets clean and tidy. Whilst pouring the drinks the barman gave a bit of history of the pub and were to find other Joules pubs in the area. All the beers are traditional with quite a range. We ordered our food and within 10-15 mins it arrived, all lovely home made and piping hot - you would call this a ‘proper Sunday Roast’ with everything, lots of veg and sauces without even asking .. The landlady was every so friendly and came over asking if everything was ok - I’ve taken a photo of my plate before I started on it as I already wanted to promote this pub as it so deserves to be. After a disappointing visit to a nearby attraction we wanted something to eat and a drink and this pub was nearby. Booked online and when we arrived table was already set, plenty of room on car park and we were seated straight away. Not a huge menu but something for everyone. Carribean chicken is amazing, chips are gorgeous and lasagna was enjoyed more than one eaten in Rome a few weeks ago. Staff were lovely and nice to see the chef pop out and see if everyone enjoyed the food as well. Didn't think it was unreasonably priced for the quality and potion sizes just right. We have been saying ever since how much we enjoyed the food and wished it was closer to home! Only reason for not being 5 stars was the room and the loos could be smarter but would happily drive the almost hours journey on occasion for the amazing food.

Right price, good location, nice breakfast, and real ales..quality lagers. Parking limited to circa 8 vehicles. Decor needs a little TLC.
