Our family highly recommend The Dog and Davenport in Worfield near Bridgenorth, a hidden gem tucked away in a small village. We visited on a Sunday lunchtime and hadn't booked but were welcomed in and luckily there was a table free in the snug for us. We had steak baguette, dirty fries, prawn and salmon salad, beef dinner, veggie lasagne, rump steak and two children's meals. All was absolutely delicious, a little wait for food to arrive but not a problem at all because you know chef is cooking from scratch and not reheating in microwave. Our server was lovely and attentive as was the lady whom initially welcomed us in. We will back when next in the area, thank you to all for a lovely afternoon, best wishes.

It was the 1st time we had eaten here, I had we're supposed to be Stilton and walnut pate, but mine was in a liquid form in a small bowl it was ok, and the wifey had spring rolls nice and lamb minted chops large and very moist, I had the lamb curry but it was very disappointing! It was boil in the bag rice, and the curry tased Uncle Ben's, no flavour, no spices, no passion, not one person asked us if our food was ok, even paying our bill thanks but I'll pass the dog inn & davenport arms in the future 😉

We were staying in Worfield for a wedding and had been recommended to eat at The Dog Inn & Davenport. What a wonderful welcome we received - the staff were welcoming and friendly pand had us seated right away. The waitress went through the Specials board and it was difficult to choose as everything sounded delicious. The food was was homemade and they were large portions so we couldn’t manage one of the lovely looking desserts! We would definitely recommend this pub to anyone staying in the area and would eat here again next time we are in the area.

Small pub in a small out of the way village. It got really busy whilst we were there, so they must be doing something right. We both had fish and freshly cooked chips which was nicely cooked and hot. There was a lot of it and the plates could have been a little bigger! We watched other meals coming out and they all seemed home cooked and they looked delicious. It seemed like a family run business and they seemed very friendly when we engaged with them in conversation. I have read reviews that contradict this view and all I can say is that it takes two to tango! We shall be definitely be going again.

Well, if I could put zero stars I would. Let's start with the good points, last Saturday booked with family for my birthday. The bar maid Kelly was absolutely amazing, full of smiles and couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome. Food was bland at bedt, such a disappointment, as it used to be amazing. And it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out why. When you.meet the owners, it appears to be there retirement home for alcoholic, grumpy publicans. They clearly don't want customers,... almost as if they feel they're doing you a favour, the landlord could even turn the beer sour, like Victor Meldrew if your bought him off wish.com

Lovely little village pub; dog and people friendly. We only popped in for a drink, but decided on a sandwich lunch - neither us could finish our portions! The ham was clearly "butcher's ham", the chicken was moist, tender and beautiful thick slices, and the salad was one of the nicest I've had for a long time. We also had a bowl of chunky chips - cooked to perfection! I was amazed at the quality and amount for the price. We'll definitely come back.

We stumbled across this little diamond of a pub quite by chance and stopped for something to eat as we were so hungry at the time. After looking at a menu that would put some resturaunts to shame we chose the set menu of three courses for £16.95 each. That's right, no mistake, £16.95. My wife chose the pate and I chose the homemade curried parsnip soup. No way could we predict the size of the starter... it was huge! My soup was delicious and the wife's pate filled a plate and could have been a meal in itself. The main course for me was the roast beef and yorkshire pud and wifey chose the lamb.... both plates arrived and were just as generous as the starters had been!! We both managed to finish and were genuinely stuffed but as everyone knows a dinner belly and a pudding belly are totally different things! I went for the rhubarb crumble and wifey had the cheesecake.... again we got portions that defied any attempt to completely finish them. Everything was fresh, home cooked and beyond delicious.... portion sizes were amazing, definitely not going home hungry from here!! The staff were chatty, kind and made us feel right at home. Oh, did I say it only cost us £16.95 each?!! This is a small pub so I would recommend booking if you are thinking of turning up en masse or during a peak time as I can't imagine this place is struggling to fill tables! . Now... would I eat here again?? Try and stop me!! ...and next time I'm taking family or friends that I care about and want to impress. Thanks to Kelly and the rest of the staff, well done!!

The pub coped admirally with us turning up and ordering from the menu there and then. The food arrived freshly cooked and very warm. My husband raved about his salmon in a sauce, his chips were hot, crispy and made from new potatoes. The chips were delicious, I know as I could not stop helping myself to them. The only down side the portions were generous as a result most of us did not even attempt to have a desert. Well done to the staff for prompt attention and delivery of tasty food.

We followed a sign from the main road for The Dog Inn, not sure what to expect we were really pleasantly surprised ……. Parking was available to the rear of the pub and at weekends on the school car park opposite. This Village Pub is fantastic, we liked the originality of the interior (not a poshed up gastro pub) but a proper English pub. The staff were welcoming and on entry we were asked if we’d be eating and managed to get the last available table. The food was so good, fresh and piping hot, portion size was big, home made chips were delicious, it was all delicious my hubby loved the Barnsley chops ! The service was great, all the staff were friendly and approachable and attentive asking if everything was ok with the food etc. Not really local to us but if we were up this way again we would definitely call in to this pub x

We called in for lunch as we were driving past. We had a warm welcome. The landlady found us a table, took our order and brought our drinks to us. The beers were excellent. One was a special brewed for The Coronation and the other was Hobson's Town Cryer. My husband ordered salmon with vegetables and a Shropshire chicken with chips for me. The chicken portion was big, the sauce was delicious plus the chips were the proper, home made variety. My husband enjoyed his salmon which was served with three vegetables plus potatoes. It was certainly value for money as the food was hot and not mass produced. The couple sitting near us had generously filled sandwiches, so it is possible to get a lighter meal. Dogs are allowed into part of the bar, which is fine. There is an outside garden, the access for which is rather steep. (This is certainly not an issue for us but it might be for some people). We certainly intend to return to try more of the menu.

I have eaten at The Dog several times and always had a lovely meal. Most recently we went In January for a birthday celebration. We were a large party of 10 adults and a toddler. Despite leaving it until the last minute to book a table, they were very accommodating and fitted us in despite being very busy. The menu has a great and varied selection, every one enjoyed their meal and all meals was accompanied by either fresh salad, fresh vegetables and/or chunky homemade chips. The portions were very generous and the quality was excellent despite the price point very affordable. Some of the party also managed puddings of which the majority were homemade - rare to see and much enjoyed. All the staff were very helpful and joined in singing happy birthday lead with gusto by the landlady Maggie, who is not only a great hostess but an excellent singer. Mark, the older bar man was as always, his usual charming and helpful self and couldn’t do enough for us despite being busy. They also provided a high chair and smaller portion for my toddler nephew making a great family experience all round, Thankyou and we will definitely be back.

We called into the Dog & Davenport Inn on our way back from shopping in Bridgnorth. Wow, what a find. Got to be the best pub grub I have ever had. Sue had the pie of the week, chicken and chorizo, and I had the Barnsley lamb chops. Absolutely lovely. Town Cryer was v good too!Thoroughly recommended

Nice friendly pub. Food was ok but we did wait over an hour for food which is a long time. I know the food is done fresh which is good maybe if the waitress might have said there’s a wait we would have known. We shall go again though.

A lovely, friendly, cosy pub with great home cooked food. We popped in today after trying to get in somewhere else which was full. We had a 3 course Sunday lunch for £13.95. It was delicious, properly cooked homemade food! Dogs are welcome too! We will definitely be returning!

Just back home after lovely lunch at this country pub. We’d travelled about an hour from home to see the snowdrops at Dudmaston National Trust park. (Great Walk but more snowdrops in our own garden)!

Visited on a Saturday evening as a table of 2. Nice country pub, in a little village. My husband had steak which he said was very good. I had the cottage pie which had absolutely no taste at all and came with over cooked soggy vegetables.

We just popped in for a drink after a morning visiting some friends as I haven't been here in years. We decided to have Sunday lunch and I must say it was the best I've had in a long time everything seemed to be home prepared, even down to the mint sauce I had with my lamb. We will definitely be returning soon

What a very pleasant pub this is. Cosy and welcoming are two words which come readily to mind. Good cooking, good food and fantastic value for money. The cheese board was one of the best I have experienced for ages. A joyful lunch. Highly recommended.

Great beer and food, We love the elevated garden area in the summer, Interior very cosy in winter. My wife and I have had the odd meal there which was very enjoyable pity we don't make more often but 30 miles is a fair way at our age.

This is our fourth visit and as usual we had a very warm welcome Its a charming old pub with character . Both landlady and landlord are very friendly and can't do enough for us .We had Barnsley chops for one meal and a ham salad for the other .The lamb is beautifully cooked and the ham is there own home cooked off the bone the salad is a real plateful and all lovely and fresh as is the veg and chunky chips also hand made . The wc's are spotless which is a bonus and the prices are very reasonable if you have room after your meal the sweets are lovely to .

Wow, we've always had fantastic meals here and great service, on this visit it literally blew us away, so so very tasty..we very nearly licked the plates. Two of us had the homemade beef, port and stilton pie, which was simply amazing, the tastiest pie we had ever eaten..huge portions, gorgeous chips, the other main was a steak and onion baguette with blue cheese sauce all topped off with fabulous service with a smile...highly recommend a visit here, we will be back..again, thank you.

As a treat for my mom, we decided to try somewhere near for lunch as we usually go to the Wheel and love it there! What a mistake to make. The lady serving was friendly but the rude chef clearly didn’t want to be there and i can see why, I too would be embarrassed serving up food so awful! Soup tasted acidic like a bottle of vinegar (was chicken and mushroom) so we left it but didn’t complain as gave the benefit of the doubt but mains were just as awful! Cottage pie was inedible, my aunt asked me to try hers after saying it was so bad, she could cry! I actually had to spit it back into a tissue, was raw mince! We sent it back with no real apology! My fish was mushy and also inedible but I just ate the chips! This pub has potential to be lovely but we won’t know as won’t be returning! I can’t understand the positive reviews as this is what we went by initially but was worst meal out we have ever had.

We called in here whilst house hunting. The village is really pretty and so is this pub/restaurant. Great choice at lunchtime from sandwiches to a full three course meal. Some unusual dishes such as black pudding with bramley sauce. The staff were friendly and very helpful and prices were more than reasonable. Our meal was really nice and plenty of it as we couldn't manage a pudding as well which was disappointing as most were our favourites. Would definitely recommend and go again ourselves.

Just left after having plenty of lovely meals here in past, this will be the last visit. Bar area full however only one other table in the restaurant having food, service was extremely slow..we ended up leaving after waiting nearly 40mins for our mains to be cleared to order desert, waited 40 mins for the food to start with. We wouldn't mind when busy however, focus is on the bar only. Strong smelling substances clearly being used (greeted with this on the main entrance) here so very unpleasant for a family visit.

Stayed in flat above. Old tourist attraction leaflets in plastic wallets. An old folilo folder with more old crap in. Everything old and mostly unnecessary. No idea where to put rubbish bags when full. No welcome pack. Just stupid questions on initial phone call asking if we sleeping in separate rooms due to snoring or in the same room as a couple ???? And some old advice on Sat Nav that was not an issue and does NOT take you through Ford. Clearly some idiots have come this way. No politeness. Just moaning if you ring on a Sunday evening and the owner wants "quiet" time after only working 3 days a week. Yet was going to ring on the Monday morning. What when people are driving travelling to location??? ??? 🙄. NOT a quiet location as a local hanging out place even 7pm in the evening. With cars honking to each other. Delivery van honking every morning going next door. Motorbike next door starting in morning and returning 10pm at night. Who ever the imbecile is with heavy boots/footfalls that keeps on going into cafe when it is shut and slamming door every day. Neighbouring property busy and constant visitors. Ridiculous. Definitely would not stay again. Same idiot owner who asked stupid questions half way through holiday knocked on the door and asked us to move our vehicles into a field just for the customers over the weekend. Even though the cafe shuts at 4pm so no-one will be here. And we have paid for the parking as advertised on hoseasons. Only good points. Well equipped with necessities. Value for money.
