Just left after having plenty of lovely meals here in past, this will be the last visit. Bar area full however only one other table in the restaurant having food, service was extremely slow..we ended up leaving after waiting nearly 40mins for our mains to be cleared to order desert, waited 40 mins for the food to start with. We wouldn't mind when busy however, focus is on the bar only. Strong smelling substances clearly being used (greeted with this on the main entrance) here so very unpleasant for a family visit.

Good 2 night stay, food and service excellent! Stayed in the Cow bedroom which was a little noisy from passing traffic on the main road (could do with better soundproofing) and on my last night, late night revellers.

Having had recently (quite frankly), some shocking pub and Sunday lunches, it was a relief to eventually find a pub/restaurant with fantastic meals in cosy surroundings. We've eaten at The Sun Inn previously, but never Sunday lunch. Roast beef was perfectly cooked, everything was hot, vegetables didn't feel like they'd come out of a boil-in-the-bag, and the staff were friendly and not stressing-out. Definitely be back and highly recommended.

Foods OK, nothing special service can he slow, noisy on a Friday when the locals crowd the Bar which is small enough, 15 in there and it's difficult to get to through without bumping the locals out of the way. Some feral kids running around when I was there, leaving doors open and generally being a pain.

We were attracted by their notice on the Llangollen canal "fresh food, real ales, good wine and a very warm welcome". All were true. The only slight error was it was a 20min walk not the advertised 15. We were made to feel very welcome, the food was delicious. I had sausages and my partner tried the Cod. Excellent ales, but we didn't sample the wine. Good beer garden and all very clean. Highly recommend.

We were holidaying near the Llangollen Canal and very close to where we were staying. Lovely welcome and so friendly. The portions were generous and we found no fault with our meals. So good we had lunch one night, dinner another and did I mention the fabulous beers on tap? Sneaked in a cheeky pint or two one evening too!

We were on the canal and were recommended this place by the people at Whittington Wharf. One look at the well constructed menu (I work in the hospitality business in the States) and we decided that the walk from the canal with the kids was worth it. Great beers. Great food. Great staff. We went for a winter walk round the lanes and canal towpath near Welshampton and ended up at the Sun Inn for lunch. An excellent choice! We sat by a great, roaring fire in the back room, which was very welcome after walking in a very brisk January breeze! There was a great selection of wines and local beers to get us started. The menu was interesting and imaginative - what I really liked was its breadth in terms of choice and price - from very reasonably priced light bites to fine dining. For lunch we had light bites. What a simple treat I had......sausages, egg and chips in a basket - a throw back to being treated to pub food as a teen by my parents in the '70s (onlythis was much better quality than in the 70's). I was wallowing in nostalgia as I made my way through wonderful local sausages, excellent chips and a perfectly cooked egg. My wife had a steak salad which she really enjoyed. I would highly recommend the Sun Inn - we will certainly be making a return visit.

The manager was doing well coping with the 41 covers that lunch time, they may all have been walk-ins, it can't be easy running a place like this when no one books. If you are walking up from the canal, walk up from Bridge 51 as this uses Lyneal lane that is very quiet, the route up from Bridge 50 is along the B5063 road which is busier.

We have visited here many times and have always been impressed with the high standards and quality of their food. This trip was no exception - we went on a Monday lunchtime to celebrate a birthday. We booked a table a few days before as we needed a dog-friendly one due to us being on 'holiday' and having the four-legged friend with us. Even though it was a Monday it was still busy, with a mix of locals and visitors alike. The food was awesome yet again, the onion rings are just fantastic! Dan was 'the man' when it came to the bar and table service, he looked after us well, ensuring we didn't run out of drinks but not being intrusive either - it's a fine line that some people get wrong! I also like that we had some games available to us and we made the most of the dominoes, though I had to let the birthday girl win! (That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it!) As for the dog - a fresh bowl of water and a goodly supply of gravy bones were swiftly forthcoming on our arrival which he truly appreciated.

I was so disappointed by my visit. It was a Sunday and they had run out of Sunday roasts by 5.30pm - not a great start, but we decided to try something else since we were there already. My partner had fish & chips which he said were alright. I ordered a burger & honestly I was not impressed at all. The meat and the bun were drier than the Sahara desert & the meat had no seasoning whatsoever. The spinach was the ingredient with the most taste - I wish I was joking… Chips were fine, onion rings were slightly soggy but edible. I couldn’t eat the majority of the burger. We were told to order at the bar, which is fine, but the table opposite us were waited on hand and foot. Nobody came to ask how the meal was going until they took the plates away, but they did for other tables. Just felt totally ignored. I then told the young man at the bar that I wasn’t prepared to pay full price for my meal but I’d pay half price since I ate the chips & onion rings. He went and spoke to someone (I guess a manager?) and he did discount my bill thankfully. I regretted leaving the house for this meal to be honest. Maybe it was just a bad day in the kitchen, but it’s our money & the cow’s life that was wasted unfortunately. Not sure I’d go back.

Arrived for lunch 12pm, after about 20 mins the place was very busy, car park full. The roast dinners looked amazing, Yorkshire pudding was amazing. Had starters of garlic bread and pate but after seeing size of the lunches probably shouldn’t have ordered them!! I had halloumi, deep fried in beer batter and hubby had roast beef. It was all extremely good and will definitely be back. Next time no starters and will hopefully have room for a pudding!!

Good food, good service, good atmosphere, maybe a little pricey but you get what you pay for.

Stayed in flat above. Old tourist attraction leaflets in plastic wallets. An old folilo folder with more old crap in. Everything old and mostly unnecessary. No idea where to put rubbish bags when full. No welcome pack. Just stupid questions on initial phone call asking if we sleeping in separate rooms due to snoring or in the same room as a couple ???? And some old advice on Sat Nav that was not an issue and does NOT take you through Ford. Clearly some idiots have come this way. No politeness. Just moaning if you ring on a Sunday evening and the owner wants "quiet" time after only working 3 days a week. Yet was going to ring on the Monday morning. What when people are driving travelling to location??? ??? 🙄. NOT a quiet location as a local hanging out place even 7pm in the evening. With cars honking to each other. Delivery van honking every morning going next door. Motorbike next door starting in morning and returning 10pm at night. Who ever the imbecile is with heavy boots/footfalls that keeps on going into cafe when it is shut and slamming door every day. Neighbouring property busy and constant visitors. Ridiculous. Definitely would not stay again. Same idiot owner who asked stupid questions half way through holiday knocked on the door and asked us to move our vehicles into a field just for the customers over the weekend. Even though the cafe shuts at 4pm so no-one will be here. And we have paid for the parking as advertised on hoseasons. Only good points. Well equipped with necessities. Value for money.
