Our daughter had her wedding here and we came down from Scotland to stay. Selina and staff are absolutely wonderful, nothing is too much trouble, you just need to ask. My daughter is autistic and they accommodated her strange eating habits with no question. The rooms are lovely and clean and the bed so comfortable! If you’re too hot, Selena will give you a fan. They really can’t do enough to help you. We will definitely be back. Thank you Selena and staff for a wonderful stay!

The staff here are amazing as is the location beautiful old building 🥰 the only down sides were the rooms are very tired with marked door frames etc curved showers that you can’t lift your arms in, no fans and it was very hot! The tv remote didn’t work well and wedged the window open with the bin for air lol great breakfast, would we stay again YES the family room was great.

We had an afternoon tea there today and I can honestly say it was the worst afternoon tea we have ever had. Thick crockery instead of bone china. Ham out of a packet. No smoked salmon just tuna. Cakes out of the freezer (condensation on the top of each) Cold scones but they were warmed when requested by us. one of those little miniature pots of jam between two of us (it would have been nice to have the usual homemade preserve with an afternoon tea) Totally overpriced, it was just horrible.

I booked afternoon tea at The Old Rectory having looked at many places in the area as I had a Buyagift voucher. I’m glad I did. The customer service was excellent and the afternoon tea catered perfectly for vegetarian and pescatarian tastes and the sweet treats and scones with jam and cream were lovely. Plenty of tea or coffee offered too. A lovely setting and all round perfect tea. Remember to take voucher with you if you have one.

My wife and I stopped off at the Old Rectory for afternoon tea and it was delicious. We had savoury croissants, a mix of sandwiches, a selection of cakes, scones with clotted cream and jam, and a pot of tea for two. Everything was wonderfully prepared and beautifully served. The waitress who looked after us was friendly, polite and most helpful. At £14 per head, it was excellent value for money.

Stayed at the Old Rectory at Wem and it was truly wonderful. The staff were friendly and very welcoming and generally couldn’t have been more helpful. The cleanliness was outstanding and indeed was the attention to safety in these times of COVID. There were multiple cleansing stations and no small detail was left undone in the owner’s attention to protecting their guests. The Old Rectory itself is a beautiful building set in lovely grounds and very very peaceful. All in all this is one of the best places I’ve stayed in and will certainly look for any opportunity to return back here. Can’t recommend too highly!

My friends and I booked for afternoon tea this week. It was a beautiful setting in the orangerie, looking out onto the gardens. There was plenty of tea, lovely little sandwiches and wraps, and a delicious selection of small cakes with the pinnacle being the scone, jam and cream. The staff were very polite, helpful and friendly. It was just how an afternoon tea should be - pleasantly filling, dainty, varied and very tasty. To top it all off, we only paid 50% of the usual price due to the current government scheme ‘Eat Out to Help Out’! We would happily have paid the full price for what we had.

My wife had been given a voucher for her birthday so we took the plunge and booked ourselves in for an afternoon tea at The Old Rectory. What a great choice it was, the setting and the rooms we saw are worth a visit on their own. The two ladies who looked after us were obviously well trained in hospitality management and made our visit a memorable one. The actual tea itself was served in a beautiful sunlit room which in February was an added bonus. We were provided with tea, (coffee if we preferred) and a three tier stand laden with scones with jam, cream and fruit, a wide range of mini cakes as well as a selection of finger sandwiches. By the time we left after a leisurely tea we were well and truly contented! Would definitely recommend the experience. We hope to return again in the future.

We dealt with Selena (the manageress?) on almost a daily basis due to our staff wanting the menu to be changed, then deciding that the first menu was fine, then more people coming and, of course, dropping out! She was so patient, understanding and nothing was too much trouble (believe me, we put her to the test). The food! Wow the food! Considering it was a Christmas party for about 3o people, all of the food was freshly cooked, nothing was microwaved and was absolutely delicious! Even the hardest people to please were pleased! For my partner's Birthday I booked this hotel .... and the Bridal Suite to boot! What a great decision! The room was very large and quite ornate, complete with four-poster bed. And the bathroom (lots of gold-coloured fittings) boasted a modern jacuzzi-styled bath. I have to admit that some of the room fittings were a little shabby and worn but we did not feel that this detracted from the overall character. And the various lighting combinations gave the room an interesting twist! We loved everything about it!The remainder of the hotel is well decorated and the furnishings are lovely. You lounge in comfort wherever you sit in a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. And there is always something new to discover. The staff are most attentive and pander to your every need. The bar is adequately stocked and the wine list quite acceptable. The dining room is spacious and the menus are varied and interesting. Pre-dinner drinks can be taken on the terrace overlooking the well-kept gardens (the weather was generous, so we did!).Overall, a most pleasant stay and two days did not seem enough. We were invited to a family celebration meal, and we must be the most awkward folks to cater for with lots of intolerances spread amongst us. Gluten, Lactose, Vegetarian, and that's just one of us! In the party were meat eaters too, so quite a mix.We called up a couple of weeks before to let them know about our requirements. The restaurant went to extra lengths for us, beyond my expectations.Starters of Melon with sorbet not only looked super but had a taste to match. We were also served gluten free bread, too.Main course was a nut loaf with polenta and a jalapeno chutney. This was very well made, very tasty and made without milk or wheat products. Most impressive were the roast & boiled potatoes, cauli, baby corn and broccoli, all served without butter or cheese for the lactose intolerant guest. The desserts were thoughtful and well presented, my Eton Mess was delicious.10 out of 10 for service too. Booked a table for 10 for fathers 70th birthday - Sunday lunch. Lovely warm welcome, wonderful menu. We were taken to the table. Starter, main and dessert was 1st class. large portions, all hot and really very very good!! Children had half portions, which where very well sized. The children played in the lovely gardens and we returned to the lounge for coffee Wine was reasonable priced. Over all a lovely place and somewhere I would HIGHLY recommend. One of the best lunches I have had.

Everything was presented beautifully and tasted wonderful. Need heart appetites though - they don't scrimp on the portions! Goats cheese starter was heavenly; local lamb was melt in the mouth. Definitely going back again!

Stayed overnight when we went to a friend's wedding nearby. We were beautifully looked after. Nice little family run business where they make a real effort to help you have a great stay. Nice room if a bit old fashioned. But clean and fresh. Breakfast was yummy!

Spent two nights here and had a meal on one night. Can't find any fault with the place or the staff. It was an extremely pleasant stay, great food and lovely staff. Breakfast was excellent too.

the ground to this old building are lovely, inside lots of old fireplaces, very downtown abbey looking, the service was however rushed the food was acceptable, but not that special for the price it commands. and do not stay in the room above the kitchen, unless you like an early start

Well presented and well cooked. The menu, although not overly substantial, was well thought out and with the Chefs specials made sure we were well catered for. A good selection of beers and soft drinks from the bar completed relaxing evenings.

Went on Shropshire Star deal so limited menu but what we had was good. Only 2 other people in restaurant and they were miserable so lacking atmosphere.

The service was friendly and the food absolutely first-rate. Can recommend the Ploughman’s which is loaded with cheese, really top notch ham, and lovely crusty bread. Would have loved to stay for cake but we were all too full.

we always try to come here when we can get in and don’t fancy cooking one ourselves. the meat selection is always good and very generous, their roast potatoes are the best - lovely and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. it is a carvery so can help yourself. they unfortunately don’t have any mash but we just add extra roasties! their gravy is lovely and homemade with the meat juices in. the staff are lovely and attentive. our favourite place to go for sunday lunch!

We booked for dinner as we knew the White Lion had reopened for food with a new chef. We were not disappointed the food was delicious, we had the rib eye steak, the sea bass special and the penne vodka. All were beautifully cooked and served. The service was great and the staff were friendly. We will definitely be eating here again.

We are regular visitors to the Red Lion in Myddle. We return every time because the food and service is second to none. We always receive a warm welcome and we know how hard Pete and Jackie and staff work to make sure that their guests are not disappointed. If you fancy a meal out around Shrewsbury (lunch or dinner) then look no further than the Red Lion. You won’t regret it.
