We called in to the cafe when returning from Melksham, and remembering the main premises from before it was converted into a nursery. The cafe can be found behind the nursery, with good parking facilities, excellent quality food, and an enclosed area which can be heated upon request. The food is hone made and plentiful, and the staff are cheerful and friendly. Will certainly visit again when in the area

First class service throughout. From booking the car in, to receiving it when work was completed. Having forgotten to get my car in for MOT, and with only two day's before I was travelling away for ten day's. Laura managed to find a slot for me. Unfortunately the car failed. Gary called me that evening and asked me to get the car to him the next morning. I did, and that day faults were rectified and the car passed. Laura and Gary went above and beyond to ensure my car was legal again. Giving me peace of mind and allowing me to get away. I will always use this garage and recommend you do also.

The waiting staff were lovely, my friend’s meal was really good. Unfortunately mine was not edible. I had fish of the day which was haddock in batter. It was mostly batter which was greasy, very thick and raw. I scraped the fish out and left the batter. I did not want to make a fuss as I was taking my friend out for a treat. When the waitress came to collect our plates, she asked if everything was ok. I indicated to her my plate and told her at how disgusting and inedible it was. She did apologize and said she would let the Chef know. I never heard anything else and was charged for the meal. As a gesture of goodwill I would have expected the waitress to have removed the charge which leads me to doubt whether anything was indeed said to the Chef or Manager. I have been to the Pear Tree on many occasions over the years and don’t feel I would go back again after this experience.

A week after my first (solo) visit to this farm shop restaurant, I was back for more. This time I was accompanied by my Partner, on what was a sunny autumn day. We had first visited this garden centre before, during one of the 2022 lockdowns, but we hadn’t dined here at that time, or during subsequent specific visits to the farm shop. The potential for a stroll-around the garden centre, plus a visit to the farm shop, with a lunchtime meal was recognised when I had taken lunch here on my earlier visit. So, today we drove 45-minute route here, arriving at 1pm; the carpark was almost full, but we successfully parked. We went straight to the restaurant but, unlike the previous week, the restaurant was rammed. We had not made a reservation, but we could, and did, add our name to a shortlist. We would then return after a while, to see if a table had become free. So, we had a stroll-around the garden centre shop buying a couple of items, and then we visited the farm shop. Some of what we intended to buy here was chilled, so we delayed buying until after lunch. This was produce like sausages and fresh fish, the latter from the fishmonger stall that opens here on Wednesdays. Returning to the restaurant at about 1:35pm we were pleased to be shown to a table and provided with menus. I had already pretty-much decided-on a pizza, with my Partner quickly deciding to have the Quiche and Salad (including a side of chunky chips). I queued at the servery and placed our orders; this also included a breakfast tea for my Partner, and a Fentimans Ginger Beer for myself. Also a couple of, possibly takeaway, ‘Garibaldi’ oat and raisin cookies. My pizza was of the ‘Posh Ham and Mushroom’ variety, being cooked to order in the wood-fired pizza oven. I did observe that during our meal one of the (possibly senior) members of staff brought-out a pre-packaged ‘ready to cook’ pizza in a cardboard box. He showed it to the cook who was operating the pizza oven. This pizza was sealed in an airtight plastic wrap and I could see that the pizza unwrap process was being demonstrated. There was a discussion whilst the box was opened and the sealed pizza was removed (but not unwrapped). There was much nodding; general positive vibes were very evident. I would confidently say that there is to be a new supplier or possibly a new product coming soon. My pizza was very good and extremely hot with plenty of ingredients with very strong flavours. It was certainly filling, but I would say that the pizza-base was of inferior quality to that which we have at an Italian pizzeria in Clifton, Bristol. I suspect this is the difference between a factory produced pizza dough, versus a fresh pizza dough. The latter produces plump and light, softer pizza, with a wonderful elastic quality, and to be honest that is what I much prefer. My Partner’s quiche was much enjoyed and pronounced excellent. The reasonably-sized salad looked good and was all eaten. The chips really were proper, very chunky, chips; it was a generous portion, again fully enjoyed. We did, amazingly, have just about enough room for the cookies; I don’t know how. After this lunch we didn’t eat again until breakfast on the following day. The décor and service here is very rewarding and the entire cost was £36; which is really good value.

Just had a great family meal at the White Hart. We used to love the food under the old management and chef, but this was even better. The little touches like home made bread with the starters made all the difference Really hope they succeed, we’ll be back!
