Tucked away in the back lanes of Cornwall, this is an eclectic and vibrant venue for lunch. I can see that during tourist seasons, it’s essential to book to ensure you’ll get a table but Slice was able to accommodate our walk-in even though it was busy. Brilliant food with an excellent mix of veggie and meat-based options. I wasn’t able to do my main course full justice due to my limited ability to eat due to cancer recovery. Despite my pleas not to, the team insisted on deducting the cost of my main course from the bill - a hugely generous and empathetic gesture, and a sign of just how friendly and welcoming the Slice team is. So a very big thankyou to all the folks at Slice and I’ll definitely be back to scoff a full lunch when I’m fully recovered.

The Pancake Barn is full of character and charm, both indoors and outside. It's a very family friendly place and we were made very welcome. The cakes were delicious, the coffee was excellent, and the hot chocolate was decadent. We will definitely be making a return visit to have some pancakes!

The St Aubun arms is a fantastic, friendly Freehouse, equally popular with locals and visitors alike. I discovered the pub with my husband and daughter by chance back in the summer and enjoyed it so much that we have visited several times since. There's a wide range of competitively priced beers, ciders, wines and spirits and soft drinks, a friendly atmosphere and good music. The pub boasts an attractive dining area as well as a large beer garden and car park and has recently added a pool table and dart board. There are also very stylish en-suite rooms to rent, available through Booking.com. The pub has recently undergone a full refurb - looking both cosy and contemporary. There are regular live music and karaoke nights which are very popular. St Aubyn also hosts charity events and is very much atthe heart of the village. But it's the food that really steals the show! The chef and kitchen staff are absolutely first class! The menu is extensive and good value for money: From Halummi fries, (to die for) and prawn cocktail to freshly baked pizzas, delicious burgers, hearty pies lasagne, fish 'n' chips etc. There are regular food promotions eg "Pie and a pint" for £10.95, "Kids eat for £1 with every adult meal purchased." Check with the pub for the latest offers. On this occasion I chose the cheeseburger, onion rings, chips and salad. The piping hot and generously portioned meal was very well presented and served in good time. The burger was cooked to perfection - succulent and juicy. The home cooked chips were superb and the light and fresh onion rings were easily the best I have ever tasted and I eat out a lot! Thank you very much to all of the team at the St Aubyn, we can't wait to return!

Awful place. Terrible smell on entering- should have turned around right then. Asked about the set menu that they advertise on their website and the waitress had no idea what o was talking about. She also had no idea whether the louisiana burger was chicken or not and didn't offer to find out. Kids margherita pizza was in fact melted cheese and a tomato sauce on baguette. The Korean burger tasted of nothing and the Asian slaw was a spoonful of coarsely chopped red onion and yellow pepper shoved in the bottom of my burger. Husbands steak and ale pie looked like it needed a blood transfusion it was so anaemic looking. The toilet smelled like an overflowing nappy bin. Overall, a disappointing last night of our holiday. The website looks decent- very misleading.

Be wary of booking a table here on a Saturday evening as the service is very poor. We had a party of 4 and pre booked a table a week in advance. After traveling for 9 hours we thought it would be nice to go for a meal and a well deserved drink on the evening. However after placing our order it took an hour for the food to arrive at our table. On top of that, one of our party ordered Mussels and after eating a frew of them found that they were off. Thankfully the person in question was fine but disappointed not to get a descent meal after a long day. They did knock the dish of the bill and gave a complimentary desert as an apology. Not the start to a holiday that you want.
