Slice in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Tucked away in the back lanes of Cornwall, this is an eclectic and vibrant venue for lunch. I can see that during tourist seasons, it’s essential to book to ensure you’ll get a table but Slice was able to accommodate our walk-in even though it was busy. Brilliant food with an excellent mix of veggie and meat-based options. I wasn’t able to do my main course full justice due to my limited ability to eat due to cancer recovery. Despite my pleas not to, the team insisted on deducting the cost of my main course from the bill - a hugely generous and empathetic gesture, and a sign of just how friendly and welcoming the Slice team is. So a very big thankyou to all the folks at Slice and I’ll definitely be back to scoff a full lunch when I’m fully recovered.

A very disappointing start to a birthday celebration… I booked a table for 4 people for my daughter’s birthday and then amended the booking to 5. I confirmed the day before by email, (and via open table) and received a reply by ‘Pops’ acknowledging my confirmation and looking forward to our visit. On our arrival, we were greeted by a more than rude welcome by the manager when she realised we were in fact a party of 5. The manager asked me to ‘check her screen that the booking was only for 4’. When I explained that I had amended the booking to 5, she again asked me to ‘check the screen’, and said ‘so you just sent an email’. Incredibly rude. We then waited 40 mins for a drink. On the upside, Max and Poppy, young front of house staff, could not have been more pleasant and delightful. The food too was absolutely wonderful, as was the venue. So a rather mixed review sadly.

Wish we had found you sooner!!! Oh my goodness WHAT A PLACE!! Recommended by work colleagues, we ventured out into the depths of Cornwall on a rainy Sunday (be sure to book, it gets busy!!) Jolly, friendly staff who give the place a real confident, comfortable buzz. the menu immediately excited us, all tables were full but the team handled a busy sunday lunchtime incredibly and comfortably well. Confident, knowledgeable and justifiably proud of their product and the meals they were serving. We were spoilt for choice but opted for a Huervos Rancheros - in essence, poached eggs on a huge baya bread, with guacamole, beans, salad and all the taste! HUGE but I wasnt going to leave a morsel, I ploughed through, accompanied by an artisan - locally made - raspberry Kombucha, all delicious. Partner had the Baya Teryr - the biggest pile of gorgeousness I've ever seen! Our eyes lit up when the great looking plates of food arrived, and we delighted in every mouthful. We didn't have room for another morsel after our platefuls, but will definitely be back, perhaps to enjoy the stacks of amazing waffles that wafted past our table. Thanks Slice, we loved it!

It was wonderful to see a menu with such different and creative options, backed up a very warm and friendly team and wonderful food. It's a bit out of the way, which suited us, and to some might appear a little rough and ready as a venue, but it is well worth the trip. Portions are substantial and well presented and the atmosphere cosy and hospitable. As an exiled Cornishman, this is the sort of place I will wholeheartedly recommend to friends who are visiting the county.

Great for a feast. We came for our first date almost a year ago and have been regularly coming back ever since. We've had bayas, waffles, breakfasts, cakes all have been delicious and even enough for a doggy bag woohoo! So you can continue the deliciousness at home. Really friendly staff and they work hard to keep wait times down even when they're clearly slammed, yes it can be a long wait but in summer in Cornwall you can expect that. I love the Huevos Rancheros (I like the cheese and spring onions additions) and my partner loves the Morio II. They also do lush drinks and have Jubel and a tasty ginger beer (I can't remember the name) so that's a bonus for us x

This place is insane! We went for lunch expecting good things after being recommended and were blown away. The food tasted amazing and the service was great! We went for lunch and couldn’t eat any dinner so expect generous portions! X

Very friendly and efficient service. Good choice range on menu with vegetarian and vegan options. Also a kids’ menu. Colouring activity for kids with a little treat as a reward. Beautiful outside space with tables in shade or sun. Food was freshly cooked and portions generous. Easy parking.

From booking a table for brunch, service was impeccable. Couldn’t fault it and as it was my friend’s first time there, she said she’d be back with the family!

Wow a gem that I want to hide but can't keep to myself. We went on a damp day, 5 adults and two dogs. We sat outside on the deck due to the dogs but that didn't detract from the experience, it wasn't cold and we were quite sheltered. The food tasted just as good as it looked maybe even better and it looked outstanding. A good measure of an eatery might be it's staff and the service and if that was the sole measure for this review then I'd have no hesitation in making the recommendation, the service was top draw, pleasant, informative and engaging. I'm not going to add any more, it isn't necessary. just go do it you won't regret it.

We decided to come here for brunch on Sunday and booked in to avoid any disappointment. Plenty of car parking close to hand. On entering the cafe we were greeted with a big smile and made to feel welcome. We were soon seated and reading through the delicious sounding menu. Food ordered, great flatwhites and what seemed like no time at all our food arrived. Very tasty and very filling bbq beans on sourdough and the drenched chicken.

Two of us had breakfast here this morning. We did book just in case. What can I say, this place is just a joy. Warm welcome as soon as we entered. The menu is different and exciting for both food and beverages. The friendly waitress was happy to explain anything on the menu and was also happy to do a 'choose your own' as one of our choices. We appreciated that. Mine was called 'The Other Hash' I think and it was so creative. Well seasoned and full of flavours and a really really delightful combination of textures, colours. The other breakfast was more traditional - scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages etc and was declared 'very very good'. Both meals served on warmed plates too. I had a smoothie - freshly made and refreshing. There's nothing to fault at all. The menu is stylish and well balanced. The portion sizes are way above average. The fact that it's located in the middle of nowhere but was filling up at 9.15am on a Sunday morning says it all. Plenty of free parking. Outside seating on the patio if you wish, we stayed inside. We will absolutely be returning. Well done.

Slice is an interesting place. It is in the middle of the countryside and doesn't look much from the outside. However, if you want brunch with a difference, this is the place to go. Be warned, as others have mentioned, the portions are huge. The staff were friendly, the service reasonably quick, and the food very good value. My only criticism, as a hearing impaired person, is that the loud background music made conversation difficult.

Every time I go to slice of Cornwall it’s an amazing experience with the amazing food with the amazing people that work there.

Visited for lunch, having booked a table. The whole experience was manic and not at all relaxing. Too many tables crammed in, which meant every time someone needed to pass by the table we had their bums almost in our food! The people next to us were so close that we may as well have been on the same table. The general atmosphere was loud, manic and as though we were inconvenicing the staff who were aloof and seemed very stressed. After ordering, we were told food would be at least 40 minutes and that our drinks would take 'quite a long time'. I had heuvos rancheros, which was very nice, but my partner's waffles were cold, chewy and not edible. The plate was swimming in peanut butter and was quite unpleasant. Because the staff were so busy and because we had already waited so long ...plus we were hot and our ears ringing, we decided not to complain and to just pay and leave. It's obviously very popular as it is so busy, but I prefer somewhere with a more relaxed vibe and friendly service.

Wow! We’ve been meaning to visit for some time after a couple of recommendations. I’m so glad we did although I may possibly never eat again after the most enormous lunch I’ve ever eaten!! The staff are lovely, really friendly and helpful. We were heading off for a walk in the nearby woods so popped in to book a table ahead. When we returned a couple of hours later, they asked if we’d had a good walk. Dogs aren’t allowed inside the restaurant, but are welcome outside on the covered decking. The restaurant is modern and welcoming with wooden floors and daffodils on each table. The menu is extensive and eclectic with so much choice! I opted for the Fria Baya and my partner had the Huevos Rancheros. The dishes arrived really quickly and oh my goodness, they were huge! I’m ashamed to admit I cleared my plate because it was just so good. The chicken was delicious and the salad was crisp and fresh. The couple on the table next to use ordered waffles and I think I actually sat open mouthed at the size of the dishes that arrived. They were similarly impressed! We will definitely return. What a gem of a place, I really hope this great little cafe/restaurant does well as it’s pretty tucked away. I’m pretty sure its reputation is going to see it fly. Thank you!

Yes. You need to book, because it is popular. It is popular because it is a destination worth visiting. Do your self a favour and plan ahead. You can read the menu and it is temptingly different. The atmosphere is a lovely blend of young and old, all enjoying the views and the food, in a lovely barn style setting. The stand out is the service. It is supremely welcoming, accommodating, and always friendly. Most of all they go out of their way to ensure you have the very best they can provide. No matter how busy or hectic the restaurant gets, the camaraderie between the team means everyone is working together to make every visitors’ experience one they’d want to repeat. Visited for the first time today, after a friend’s recommendation. The staff were excellent and very attentive. This coupled with the best food we have had out ; for a long time, means we will certainly be back - very soon! The overloaded chicken was AMAZING. If you’re reading this to gauge whether to go or not? Just book it! You won’t regret it.

Food was fine but we were asked to leave after an hour and a half (we’d booked a table) as the next booking had arrived. Two of our party were still drinking their coffees and I was feeding my baby, so we felt very hurried. Upon leaving we noticed two other vacant 4 seater tables that surely the next group could’ve been seated at…won’t be returning.

We love it here, always welcomed warmly by the staff who are attentive without being intrusive. The food is incredible and the coffee to die for. We've been with our children and made to feel really welcome and comfortable. Can't wait for the next excuse to go, we love it.

An eatery in the wilds of nowhere along narrow Cornish lanes, but well worth the effort (preferably if you are not driving!). The food is excellent with a unique menu of very flavoursome unusual dishes. It caters very well for vegetarian and vegan customers, but is good for us carnivores as well! An enjoyably different experience.

We visited here while nearby as part of my hen do. Food was delicious, and the brownie present for my hen do was very appreciated :) The only reason I couldn’t give 5 stars is that it did take quite a long time for our food to come out, which we’d pre-ordered (not sure if they’d forgotten about us?) and they missed out a drink order. Would definitely return another time, and hope that we just got unlucky with the service this time!

We took a tiny pet bear here for lunch and he was able to sit outside with a blanket, a bear bowl was provided and even a cooked sausage he could nibble on. The staff were more than accommodating and everything was delicious especially the scones!

Wow! I love my food and lunch at SLICE did not disappoint! menu is everything your taste buds need and want, explosive complex flavour combinations, packed with naughty and virtuous at the same time! First impressions are so important , arrived not acknowledged at all the young women was ignorant when ask were to sit she just said any table with 2 chairs !!! . Huge hole in chair felt very grubby and worn menu was difficult to read print was poor so upon first impressions we left !!! We would never employ staff like her !

Incredibly friendly staff and delicious food. The portions were huge and well worth the money, and since yesterday I have already recommended to 5+ people. Would recommend booking as it got very busy whilst we were there. My only suggested improvements would be to have slightly less tables inside as it is very difficult to squeeze between tables - probably even more difficult with children. It would also be amazing if they let dogs inside. The place is a bit out in the sticks so I’d really have expected it to be more dog friendly. We’d actually planned to travel over from St Austell with our dog and go for a long walk before lunch, but because of the weather it meant we couldn’t sit outside at Slice and therefore our plans had to change.

Just perfect! We went for breakfast on the most dreadful morning, the rain was coming down in buckets and the wind was howling, but this place just made us feel like we were on the best holiday. The service was awesome, the food just delightful in every way. I'm so full it hurts, and my girlfriend had a look in her eyes whilst eating the banana bread that she only ever gets at special moments!

Fantastic experience - friendly team and beautifully thought out breakfast menu options. On our first visit we both had “overloaded chicken waffles” which were delicious and huge. If I were to make any comment to improve this dish I would suggest a little heat (chilli or pepper) in the chicken batter to offset the sweet hit from the maple syrup. The next day we woke up and both agreed we had to return. Day 2 was a steak waffle for me and full hash for my wife. Both were delicious and well presented. One final thought for improvement would be to have names of dishes on the menu more relatable to the ingredients used. Some descriptions are quite abstract and this means you really need to study the small print to make your choice. Overall definitely a 5 star venue and we will be returning.

Spotted this places busy car park on a road with nothing else near it knowing this must be something special to be bringing in a full car park and need an overflow also. So a few days later worked our trip our around coming here for lunch. There was 3 of us and our 2 daschunds (one of whom was very naughty) needless to say the friendly staff accomdated us outside. We read the menu wanting more than one thing, so ordered way more than we needed and left very stuffed but happy. This place has to be the beat food iver ever had and thats comparing it to aa rosettes and Michelin star places. I just wish more places within hospitality would understand the concept of good food, location and staff as well as you do. We will hopefully visit again next time I'm in the Cornwall region or feel free to open one up in the North West of England. Maybe near the second Eden project in morecambe when it arrives.

Excellent choice on the menu very different from your normal burgers. Extremely tasty with wonderful flavours, large portions, good presentation. All staff very attentive and efficient very customer focused and friendly. This lovely eatery is tucked away access is by some narrow roads which may not suit everyone. Reasonably priced, inside and outside seating. Highly recommend.

Amazing little summer spot that clearly everyone knows is a great find and great place to commute to. It was lovely and busy, another testament to how good it is and how well the staff handle it all. They truly are amazing handling it all and keeping their customer service top tier. Reem especially was a great server, they knew exactly what they were doing and did it so well. Kudos from one server to another! Food was immense. So many options for so many different preferences, and so on their allergies! Slice is a great place to go for breakfast lunch or dinner, great vibes and scenery. Keep it guys, we’ll be regulars soon enough! :)))

I used to love this place. It's sad that it's closed now. The pizza was absolutely delicious and I really enjoyed it. The garlic bread was fantastic and I would have it a lot. The food tried on both occasions we visited was delicious! There was such a variation of options. The breakfast hash up was delicious but there was enough on the plate that could serve two people, or one Very hungry person - no one could finish...

Great selection of excellent dishes, especially good for veggies and vegans. On a sunny day, lovely to sit outside too.
