Gordy's Fish 'n' Chips in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Fish looked way too brown so decided to go for pie. Hard on top and chips overcooked and greasy. No like it has been in the past 😤

Had the most amazing fish and chips here, really looking forward to visiting again.. the fish was delish and the chips are served very generously and very tasty! 5 stars 🌟

The absolute worst fish and chips I've ever had the misfortune to see, let alone taste. The fish was disgustingly Slimey and the batter was a foul dark brown colour with no crisp at all. Just an all round soggy mess. I wouldn't even feed this to a dog. I bet there's more appetising chippies in Chernobyl. A literal waste of 30 quid. Avoid like the plague.

These are the worst fish and chips we have ever had. The chips have a strange taste, overcooked and hard. The fish batter was stuck to the paper and very soggy, the fish tasteless. Do not bother to darken their doors, you have been warned! The mushy peas looked pale and listless! For what I paid, I expected so much more. The owner needs to read the reviews and improve drastically! We threw a lot of our food away as it was inedible, a complete waste of money.

Fish and chips were horrible. Chips were hard ( possibly undercooked) and tasted awful as though they were cooked in oil that needed changing.Batter on fish was the same. The whole lot went in the bin!

This last take out was so bad that the only edible things on the plate were the bread and butter we put on it at home.... The whole lot had to go to the dogs who also left most of it.

Can honestly say the worst fish n chips I've ever eaten, the fish was dry and tasted of old stale oil. The chips were rock hard and under cooked and tasted of the same stale oil. Never ever buying from this place again, non of us manged a couple of mouth fulls before giving up, what a waste of food and money.

Food was perfect for my taste. Chips were not dry and crispy like a lot of chip shops and they weren't greasy either. Fish was proper chippy style cod. They got my order right and it only cost £9 per meal including the curry sauce which is far batter than most chip shops I've been to. Would definitely go again!

Young lady that served me was friendly. The guy who cooked the chips, not so much. Chips were undercooked.

Pretty poor fish and chips. Chips mostly tough and chewy, or floury and heavy. Battered cod - decent fish but batter is awful, it peeled off the fish as I picked up mouthfuls, and all the batter on the bottom of the fish stuck to the paper like paste. All fish coming out of the fryer looked dark brown, not golden, so the oil is either dirty or too hot. Lovely staff who seem to care about what they're doing, but letting themselves down badly. Took a chance on the local chippy for the first time in a few years for convenience, will go elsewhere in future. Reluctant to post a negative review but really disappointed, please do better!

Fantastic gluten free plaice and chips, highly recommended! The family’s cod and chips and plaice and chips also first class. Lovely to get something this good at great prices.

Gordy please change fat, trust me u can't just clean fat .! take all the old fat out get some boiling water in tanks cook up with washing up liquid clean them Scrape with scaper if necessary ..next add new clean fat / oil ... Cook chips from potatoes not pre cooked ... Cook chips to order ......,...................................... Problem is u will get busier and busier............. ..by the way the chips were awfull I don't understand how you make them taste like that These comments are here to try and help you .....Update ..... Tried again Sorry Chips were awful again, fat cannot of been cleaned recently.. I'm not sure if chips used are frozen or not. But they tasted like it. I can really say that they didn't taste like chips. Such a shame as it's a lovely little chip shop., I'll repeat above help .....take all a of the fat out of pans. Boil up some water or a bucket of cold water turn on gas heat water. Put some sort of cleaner in there. It may be you have to scrape the bottom of the pans with a metal scraper to get all the burnt on old fat off. More scrubbing empty water refill and heat water giving it a good rince, drain wipe dry .. Job done fill with oil, fat whatever.. use proper potatoes peeled/ rumbled..... Cook to order until you have shop packed out and down the road... Voila Then serve up... .this is meant as a suggestion and trying to offer a helping hand....

Just had worst fish and chips both fish and chips. Looked and tasted like reheated from yesterday. Gone in food bin will not return

Really great food all round, freshly cooked and didn't take too long. Good old fashioned chippy. We're not local but its worth the 20 minute drive.

the food is usually nice, however the chips are dripping with fat, despite still being an enjoyable fish and chips shop. Overall I would recommend, but not worth travelling across the country for.

Worsed iv ever had. Batter was dirty grey and slimes. Chips were poor quality potatoes all cooked in old oil. Can't believe they were queing out the door I asume they were all first timers.

Not the best - not crispy at all - a bit too greasy. Disappointing on previous years we have been coming.

Worst fish & chips we’ve ever had all you could taste was oil, the batter was slimy and the chips burnt, absolutely disgusting. The highlight were the mushy peas and they were luke warm. Wouldn’t recommend this takeaway to my worst enemy.

Have tried a few times now, hoping that they would improve. The chips are like razor blades. Such a shame as we would use it regularly, living in the next village away. The shop used to be so busy, but now you drive past to see it's rarely got a customer waiting. Hopefully they might get better again. Another problem is the lack of close,safe car parking. But that isn't the owner's fault, admittedly.

Staff were lovely, prices reasonable. Unfortunately that’s where the positives end. Fish and chips were very dark and oily tasting. Need to change your oil!

The fish was very meaty chips lovely pea fritter blast from the past and fantastic. He even made me some scraps because he didn’t have any. Next visit to Clowance we are going back to Gordys absolutely lovely,

I don't know what magic they're working in these fryers but my wife and I both remarked 'These taste like how I remember fish and chips tasting when I was a kid!'. We were very impressed and tried to explain the phenomenon to our kids with limited success :D The grumpy older fella on the fryer had some very amusing banter with the girl on the till who couldn't quite seem to give him the orders the way he wanted them. Only made the whole experience better to be honest....might have just been an act! Almost worth the drive from South Wales to Cornwall just for these fish and chips. Bloody lovely!

Over the years , every time we stay in Praze we always get fish and chips from here. The new owners did not let us down. We both had cod and chips. The fish was cooked fresh and was a good size. The chips were as chips should be, crisp on the outside and hot and fluffy on the inside. Staff were very friendly and chatty and I wish them all the very best luck going forward.
