Fifteen (or so) of us arrived without a booking on a sunny Saturday. We just wanted a couple of drinks and some chips for the kids, and there were loads of free tables. The "host" in the garden looked at us like something he'd stepped in and then allowed us to sit, telling us we would have to order our drinks inside. Fine. When it came to ordering our chips, one elderly couple in our group wanted a proper lunch, so it seemed reasonable that we run separate tabs, but the "host" complained that this would make more work for him and suggested we sort it amongst ourselves, with lots of huffing and eye-rolling. Then someone wanted to change their order from "chips" to "fries" which prompted more sarcasm and muttering. One of our group then overheard this "host" complaining loudly about us to his colleague - "They're the kind of people who expect spoons with numbers on!" - and acting like it wasn't his job to serve paying customers. I've worked tables so always treat waiting staff with respect, but a reasonable level of politeness isn't much to ask from waiting staff. And if a pub wants to identify as a fine-dining gastropub then great; I'm happy to follow the etiquette of any establishment, but this "host" was just, from start to finish, rude, snobbish, and unpleasant. It's a shame because the rest of the staff were lovely (and the chips were very nice too). PS - if you're going to put complimentary sweets in the loo (which is a lovely touch) don't then tell children off for taking the free sweets!

Went here for lunch on a very sunny day with a group of friends after a long walk to Henley and back. Pub and restaurant are great, though the drinks serving area inside the pub is a little crammed. Good beer and friendly staff. Lovely seating area outside in an enclosed garden (no views). Food was okish, however. Fish & Chips severed with fries (not traditional chips) and the beer batter on the fish as rather thin and oily. Roast Shoulder of Lamb on the other side was out of this world!

Really nice little pub. My wife is Greek and she loves the old style traditional English pubs and the food that goes with it. She had the venison pie which she really enjoyed and I had the sausage and mash which was also really good. Plenty of parking and the service was really good, very welcoming.

Arrived for a spontaneous cream tea and enjoyed the glorious sunshine on the terrace. The scones were fluffy, the tea fresh and fragrant and the service outstanding as ever. Retired to spend a few blissful hours in The Great Hall reading and relaxing before heading back home. A gorgeous and surprisingly affordable few hours of peace.

We had a 3 course meal here and it was very good. Starters of Chicken and Shiitake Mushroom terrine with Parma Ham and veloute cauliflower. Main courses of Pork Belly, Cavolo Nero and Apple Crumble and Apple Sauce was very good. The french wine we had was full bodied and tasty and the desserts of cheese board and passion fruit cheesecake was very good.
