Very overpriced. It cost me £32.50 for veg roast and dessert. Roast wasn’t even proper Sunday roast either.I had veg roast and it was one carrot, one parsnip, bit red cabbage , no main dish it’s was just celeriac fondant and orchard pudding with gravy. In my 30 years life first time no roast potatoes in Sunday roast.

Stayed here overnight, the hotel room was fantastic. A very large room and bathroom overlooking the beer garden with modern and period features. The pub is very in keeping with the country features and a nice garden. The food and drinks are very pricey for what you get - you couldn't stay for more than one round without a loan before you go in! Our dinner was very nice, however the breakfast of a full English although nice was not worth £16 each. Also a 12.5% service charge that's not optional was a stinger. I'd recommend this place for a hotel stay as it was comfortable and the staff were lovely. I wouldn't be quick to recommend for a few pints.

Great idyllic location perfect for a walk with the dog, however the food was awful at Lunch. The burger was undercooked and something I would expect at a Burger Van, I feel it didn't reflect the price. The service was also incredibly slow given how few customers were in at the time. This is something I've experienced multiple times.

Lovely pub/restaurant and rooms in the most beautiful village, lots of nearby walks through the lanes and by the streams. We had a superior room overlooking the pub garden with a comfy bed, and wonderful big bathroom. Great range of drinks, dinner in the evening was superb, friendly and relaxed service. Breakfast in the morning wasn't quite up to the same standard as everything else but all in all it was a wonderful stay and we look forward to returning as soon as possible. Update from second visit - Room (Henley Hill) looked tired and worn, old stained furnishings in the first room, bedside lamp not working (swapped it with another from the first room) bathroom blind broken and lying on the window ledge, cobwebs in corners, iron sat on floor in the corner next to an old ironing board.. soft mattress with "roll together" feature. Grundon bins outside one of the windows that amazingly were being moved around at 3am. Downstairs much better, cosy, waiting staff friendly and efficient, food very good if expensive. Paid £180 for the room, came down for breakfast which was ok, but no juice, cereals or toast to be had first, then got billed £43 as breakfast is no longer included in the room rates after a decision "by the directors". Negotiated a discount as even the staff on duty appeared embarrassed to have to enforce that ruling. Left feeling more than a little disappointed.

My husband and I arrived at The Stag & Huntsman at about 2pm on Friday afternoon, we were warmly greeted, and shown to our beautiful room, that was ready early. We went for a lovely walk with our dog Tilly, came back and had a drink in the garden before retiring to our room. Dinner that evening was exquisite, and I must say the monkfish and the venison was perfectly cooked, with some great flavours, and beautiful presentation. Our overnight stay was very relaxing, comfy bed, lovely and warm , tea ,coffee, and water, all we needed. Again breakfast was excellent, even a sausage for Tilly the dog 😊 We really enjoyed our stay, all the staff were very accommodating and the food, beer and wine superb. Thank you to all the team who made our Valentines special. We would totally recommend, and we will certainly be returning, to experience this lovely pub again 😍

Absolutely beautiful food, the service was exceptional and the atmosphere was fantastic. I'd also like to say I stepped outside from a moment to catch my breath and realized that Hambledon is so quiet. There is absolutely no noise pollution or light pollution so it makes the perfect spot for a meal definitely will be coming back in the summer when it's a little bit warmer.

Disappointing lunch visit. Food was "OK" but expected (and have experienced) much better on previous visits (all be it a few years ago!). Didn't start well with menu mix up and no drinks menu either so had to guess what we wanted to drink! Our server would much rather have been elsewhere (or so was the impression he gave)! For the prices charged, the food was average at best and they seem to be charging based on their location more than the food! That said, on a gorgeous February day, the place was empty on a Friday lunchtime (so maybe that should have told us something!). Luckily we were with good friends so we had a great time...but we won't be rushing back!

We joined friends for lunch at this establishment after a recommendation, and having taken advantage of similar lunch deals at other pubs in the Chilterns, we had high expectations. Sadly we were disappointed. The decor does not seem to have been updated since we drank here forty years ago, old fashioned dining furniture and carpeting, poor lighting etc. There was no buzz as we were I think the only diners and the welcome was underwelming. Admittedly service was prompt but low key. Menu selection is reasonably limited in a £19.50 menu (2 courses) but not exciting unlike many similar local establishments (the Glass and Bottle was mentioned by other diners in Tripadvisor as an example). Overall the experience was low key, rather underwhelming, not very bad but not very good either.

Had Christmas lunch here ... Service was good but the food was mediocre. Starter ok, the turkey main course was meagre in portion size one slice of breast, potatoes too dry. The dessert course that I chose, the traditional Christmas pudding was one thin slice with a splattering of custard. They need to up their game. It cost £125 plus 12.5% service charge per head. Next year get the portions and quality right. I won't be coming again, I've lost the belief.

Comedy of errors! Food was average, I had the venison which was nice, but others had steak which was average. Starters were again average, someone in our party had pea and mint soup and was convinced it had meat stock in it (although meant to be vegetarian), deserts all a disappointment, especially as all were meant to have vanilla ice cream with them but they ran out!! Service - well where do I start, I felt sorry for the staff as I think all of them (bar the manager) were on their first shift and although they were perfectly polite they clearly had no idea what was going on and no direction or sign of a manager. Orders mixed up, repeatedly asking for things that were then forgotten and having to re-ask. Had to ask for the bill 3 times which was then wrong so had to get it redone. Food was expensive and then a 12% service charge on top! Overall would definitely not be in a rush to go back

My sister and I booked in for two nights bed and breakfast as we were attending a wedding nearby. It is a charming old coaching inn with loads of character in a beautiful little village. We were greeted by Fabio who is so welcoming and could not have done more to make our stay a memorable experience. All of the staff were equally helpful and accommodating. We dined in the restaurant on the first evening and enjoyed breakfast on two mornings. Everything we could have wanted was provided in the rooms which had very good central heating, needed for the weekend as Storm Bert blew through. The bathrooms were well equipped. As this is a very old building the bedroom floors were somewhat uneven meaning an uphill walk to the window and to the bed but it added to the character. There are stairs up to the bedrooms , I was unaware of any ground floor rooms, there are also 2 cottages nearby. We agreed that we would like to have stayed longer and vowed to return.

Visited to have food with a friend. Food was pricey, but we didn’t mind as long as food and service were good. My friend had previously had a lovely meal there with her husband, so we were confident the price would be worth it. However, dinner was constantly interrupted by the manager loudly training a number of young people having a trial shift. They were being trained about 3 or 4 metres from us at the bar and they were so loud that it constantly interrupted our conversation. Food was good, but portions were really small. About 8/10 pieces of sliced charcuterie on a board costing £17 with chutney and 2 pieces of sourdough. When our plates were cleared, no one asked if we wanted desserts. Eventually someone came back and asked if we did and we said yes. We then sat there for a further 15 minutes waiting for someone to take our order. No one did. When we finally got the bill, no one came to take payment. I then had to go up to the manager and ask if we could pay. What really rubbed salt in the wounds is the “service charge” for tables of 1 or more people of 12.5% that is automatically added to the bill. Service charges should be a reflection of good service. This was not and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. 1.5 hours to get one course. Don’t bother.

Well all I can say is if Will is on, it's top notch service. We were down that way for a week, 1st night we ordered food, it turned, up no cutlery had to ask for that and a napkin still charged the 12% service charge! 2nd night we just went for drinks, same lady on who was not friendly or the guy playing on his computer in the dining area when asked if anywas serving. We stayed in this inn in October 2023 for a few nights - excellent meals, value for money and spotlessly clean. Unfortunately, the inn changed owners and not for the best.. Recently (Oct 2024) stayed for an overnight stop, but were disappointed - evening meal was average and overprized - the fish of our fish supper was definitely not 'artisan' as both our pieces looked exactly the same in shape and size. 12,5% service fee is added the bill so be aware! We found 45 pound for 2 cooked breakfast and a pot of tea a bit overpriced to be honest. Room Chestnuts was so so - bed and bedding were fine, floor could do with a vacuum cleaner especially in the corners and bathroom tiles were a bit grimy in places which could easily be wiped off with some paper, and there was some dust/dirt in the bath as well. Bathroom gets wet after a shower. Very noisy room - could hear our neighbours' conversation and shower sessions through the wall. In the room we stayed in previous (street side) we did not hear anything, so maybe it is just this room. Added value for customers would be to ask how our stay was at checkout ;) Maybe fix some tired decor and be sure rooms are clean. I am aware we did not address the issues to the landlord, so gave them no chance to fix it. However, this is just how they prepared the room for our arrival - i would expect this to be the first basic value you offer for cumstomers.

Our food was delicious… I had the venison cooked with squash and it was utterly amazing. The young staff are lovely but the young man on reception might want to put his phone down for a bit when he interacts with guests. The rooms are very clean and characterful but there is a strobe light effect and a constant fan/hum noise in the room above the kitchens. I think the rooms might need a little guide/welcome booklet or sheet to explain the car park and WiFi and breakfast times but overall it’s a very charming place. I had high hopes for this pub given some great experiences at the Hart Street Tavern and the Bottle and Glass Inn. Unfortunately, the service today (while very polite) was exceptionally slow, taking over 1 hour 15 minutes to order, eat and pay the bill for one course. While the food was tasty, the two very small new potatoes and small amount of sprouting broccoli that came with the plaice looked and felt a particularly meagre portion, considering the £25 price tag. And, while the menu available at the time of booking was varied and clearly labelled with allergen information, the menu presented on arrival was significantly reduced and had no allergy markers on the dishes. Front of house staff were very helpful in speaking to the kitchen about allergy requirements, but it does seem an odd move to make your menu less accessible than it was previously.

Went as a family of four and my wife and l were very disappointed with the quality of the food for the price that was charged. The pork belly was mostly fat and was well hidden by the gravy. The vegetables were carrots, swede and cabbage…not that exciting and pretty cheap. For dessert l ordered the crumble which was fine but my wife ordered Affogato. When it arrived we could not believe that half the ice- cream had melted and was so small that l had to ask for a top- up to make it a reasonable size. We arrived at midday and we did not mind that it took ages to be served the two courses. We did not mind the slow service because luckily we had plenty to chat about. We even got up at one point to seek help and ask where the gravy was. After ordering some puddings, we ended up cancelling and just getting the bill after waiting 15 minutes without any joy.

Came here as I’ve heard good reviews. We had a great lunch here. Food came out 5 mins after we ordered. If you are in the area it’s a fab pub to visit but can get busy.

This is a fantastic location. Loved the cottage I stayed in and after a long commute from London Heathrow the staff were fabulous. Theresa met me for breakfast and hospitality was above and beyond and had a great breakfast looking to stay again.

Lovely roast dinner with great service. Gravy was superb! Only minor gripe was the Prawn Cocktail was very small for the price.

Chose this country pub as it was very close to a circular walk and seemed a good place for a birthday celebration lunch on the basis of previous reviews. It was amazing: a very warm welcome for us all including the dog. Many places are "dog tolerant" but this was most definitely "dog friendly"! The beer was exceptional and the dishes we chose were spot on. The steak was melt in the mouth with plenty of peppercorn sauce. As well as a lovely ambiance, excellent food, what made the occasion stand out was the fantastic friendly service, particularly from Theresa and her colleague( sorry didn't catch her name). It turned out that all three men in the area we were seated in, were celebrating birthdays and they all got sweet treats with candles and singing! We left feeling like we'd had lunch with new friends! The Stag and Huntsman has it all! Thank you.

Gorgeous olde worlde Inn - we stayed just the one night whilst visiting for an appointment in Henley on Thames. We had such a beautiful quirky room full of old charm character, a lovely spacious bathroom, lots of oak beams and antique furniture making it even more special. Highly recommend the Sunday roast, it was absolutely delicious and the service was friendly and helpful too. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area.

Old tired public house / accommodation. Large room / en suite with over Bath shower. Good job my partner is taller than me as I would have had to climb up the bath to put the shower head in the cradle. Evening meal was great. Staff helpful and friendly. Breakfast good too but had to share the dining area with some extremely loud gentlemen about to go shooting which was uncomfortable. Parking outside is free when you check in

Arrived at this pub to meet friends for lunch, prior to a walk, it is in a beautiful English country village. Unbeknown to us, it was an important South African holiday, plus a South African World cup rugby match, so it was very busy. When we saw this, we thought we would be turned away as we did not book, but we were welcomed in. It was such a good experience, fantastic atmosphere, good pub food plus South African Braai specials. A table in the sunshine, we were very happy. But the real 5* review goes to the organisation and the amazing staff. So, So busy, but no waiting for drinks, food delivered quickly, very impressive. Wish we lived locally!

Super friendly place with very good food, well kept drink and comfortable rooms to stay. The mushroom soup starter was probably the best I’ve ever had and the Sunday roast was excellent too. Enjoyed sitting in the garden watching the Rugby World Cup. Slight shame that the bar closed at 8pm, with a group of us wanting to watch the evening game but other than that, faultless.

Perfect Sunday lunch. For someone who didn't want a roast the choice was amazing (I had the mussels with two chunks of beautiful bread) and others had the huge roast and a child's roast. All perfectly sized meals and enjoyed by all. Even managed to squeeze in puddings. Sticky toffee pudding was one of the best I've had and I also bake a lot so takes something special to impress me. Beautiful soft sponge and tasty sauce, rounded off with yummy ice cream. In the words of Arnie "we'll be back". Sorry no photos,we all diced in too fast!

Three of us had lunch at this very cosy restaurant. The staff were very nice. One of us had the sea bass another had the Caesar salad. Both were satisfactory. However I had the sausages with mash and vegetables. The sausages were dry and the skin was hard as they had obviously been reheated several times in a microwave. The starters and desserts were also satisfactory but no wow factor. Average pub food.

If you don’t want people in your restaurant at a certain time. Then make that perfectly clear when they ring to book a table! I rang and booked for 6:30 a few weeks ahead. I rang and confirmed my booking. We arrived on time .Not a single mention of finishing early on a Sunday. No one asked me to bring my sitting forwards . We ordered and were told we couldn’t have pudding as the kitchen would be closed. A great start! not ! First rule of hospitality, You don’t tell someone who has come to spend money on a meal for 6 people that they can’t have something and yet again point out that the chef is going home 🤦♀️ The soup was luke warm the rest of the starters ok. A nice gentleman did finally come and take a pre order for pudding so we raced through our courses to pudding . I then asked the table if anyone wanted coffee. Enter stage left the member of staff who had informed me we couldn’t have pudding. To tell me the coffee machine had been turned off. Seriously ? You knew we were booked in. The booking had been made weeks before! You give 2 hours per table to eat Baring that in mind you don’t turn the coffee machine off. In an industry that is crying out for customers to come and eat this was a very poor show. I wish I had spent my money elsewhere.

Yum, Yum, Yum We have eaten here a few times since they came under new management just before Christnas. We have enjoyed every meal we have had here. The food is freshly cooked and really tastey and value for money. We held a family party for 21 people in Feb (including 4 vegans) and the meal from start (pre-ordering for that number of people) to the end of the meal was nothing short of amazing. The staff are so welcoming and attentive. Nothing is too much trouble. The landlords are striving to make this the place to be. It is well on its way to that. They and their team are awesome. We will definitely be back again soon as we want to give their steak night a whirl. We may even venture back down the hill to their other pub The Coach House where we have also had amazing food and service.

Went for a team dinner with colleagues. The service was impeccable and so attentive, all the waiting staff were really friendly and couldn’t help enough. There are a few vegan options but nothing hugely inspiring. The vegan chocolate mousse dessert was great.
