We dined here for my husband's birthday in September. Couldn't fault the waiter/waitress as they were very welcoming and polite throughout our dining experience. The food was excellent - and they even did a birthday plate for my husband which really made our evening a special one. The owner even took time to chat to us. Thank you...if we visit the area again we would definitely dine here.

My husband and I went to The Yew Tree for Sunday lunch today we also took my mother-in-law as a treat. We were so disappointed! The portions were small and when our food arrived it was cold. The menu listed swede and stuffing as side dishes, but it wasn’t until we had finished our meal we realised that we hadn’t received them. We were offered a complimentary dessert as compensation but declined this as by that time our treat was spoilt. At the prices that we were charged we expected a much better quality experience and won’t be going back

Pretty pub with good first impression . . BUT the pub has been significantly extended and now the kitchen cannot cope with the number of people they try to serve and we felt very sorry for the kitchen staff ! . . . it took over 30 mins before our order was taken . . another hour before we received 2 small starters . . a further hour to serve our main courses. Only after 90 minutes did the serving staff tell us the kitchen was struggling . . but they kept accepting new customers and taking their orders. We went on a Friday night so perhaps it is better when the pub has fewer customers.

We had a light lunch a couple of days ago and were so impressed by the ambiance, service, food and dinner menu that we booked for dinner tonight. The food and service were as good as we hoped. Scallops to start were first class followed by a Tomohawk steak to share and a delicious Pinotage to accompany. All were excellent and extremely good value. If we lived closer it would be a regular place to eat. Lovely staff and great value perfectly cooked food. Thank you all.

Stayed in one of the three rooms . Fairly clean and comfortable, although not 💯 functional. For the cost would have expected better bedding and breakfast, croissant was not fresh and other options limited. Room pretty noisy from 6am onwards due to traffic, and blinds did not stop the light . Did not get to experience the bar or food but would defo stop again to try this out , For a one night stop great, but perhaps a price change for a mid week stay with limited facilities .

I was very fortunate to be able to stay at the Yew Tree on business for three nights. My room was stylish and comfortable and Joy and her staff were super kind and welcoming. We went on Saturday for dinner and the service from a young lad called Sam was impeccable. He was very polite, courteous and attentive. The best service we've had in years. The food was absolutely delicious 😋 too. Top class. The toilets were spotless, infact the whole place was very clean. All the staff worked so hard, it was boiling hot and packed outside but they all remained chipper. The only recommendations we have were to allow the staff to be able to wear cooler clothes, no shorts or dresses but only black top and black jeans...really? Its boiling!! Its the wonderful service that counts, who cares what you wear anymore, just wear a smile. Definitely going back.

I've run pubs for many years, I run a 2 Rosette pub now, and so I can say The Vine is a good one! Called at 4.30pm on a Friday after dinner for 4 of us plus a dog. Now I have witnessed it many times before, even in my own teams, a team member answering that phone call, "oh, you want dinner, tonight? AND a dog? You've not booked already??" Made to feel a total inconvenience. Well anyway, not here, Joy answered, "yes that's no problem at all." A hospitality venue that welcomes paying guests, it's rare these days. We arrived, had a great table by the fire, a very friendly (and VERY professional) landlady, great food and nice beer. Below Joy, it's still just kids staffing the place, as we all battle with recruitment woes, but clearly they have been trained well, and mediocrity not accepted. In fact I believe we witnessed one young lady's first shift and she did very well, with Joy mentoring her all the way, with an almost full restaurant. All in all, an excellent pub, reasonably priced and very welcoming.

Having visited this country pub on numerous occasions I wanted to review them as feel this family run pub deserves a lot of credit for the hard work they put into their service and food. The menu changes regularly and this month no different as it’s full of new dishes and on our most recent visit I ordered the pork tenderloin - very succulent, beautiful sauce and veg were cooked Al dente how I like them. My husband had a steak (as he always does!) and as usual it was cooked to perfection and a very tasty meal. The service is friendly and they always check in on us with each course. Cannot recommend enough for couples or families - a good all round country pub in a very picturesque village.

Lovely pub but the food (Sunday Lunch) was a shocker and nothing like previous visits. Mussels were below par and I could not eat them. The beef was circular with no fat, pale and had suffered from sitting in a water Bath- veg were average and no cauliflower cheese was on the plate as advertised . Shame - I’ve had these dishes before and they made me come back…. Perhaps they were just having an off day.

Was looking for somewhere different for Sunday lunch and decided to try to Yew Tree after reading other reviews. It’s about a 10 minute drive from Marlow through lovely country lanes and is definitely worth making the effort to get to. My friend and I shared the baked Camembert to start, we then chose the beef and chicken roast dinners. The food was lovely and the portions were very generous. Sadly didn’t have room for dessert, which was a pity as we saw some of what the neighbouring tables were having. The staff were very friendly and overall a very enjoyable experience, will be telling our friends about the Yew Tree as definitely worth a visit. Will definitely be back and will this time make room for dessert.

My husband and I frequented the Yew tree, we loved the rapport Carl had with the customers which really makes a place! The last two times we have been we have been met by a rude waiter, apparently being moved over from the pub in Lane End. When we arrived we stood in front of him waiting to be seated, there was no quick “hello I’ll be with you in a second” he just kept staring at his till screen. When we had our orders taken he asked my husband for his drink order then walked off! I tried to get his attention to say I was ready to order too (surely ladies first?) and I got a sarcastic “my, you’re a thirsty one aren’t you!” No sir, I would just like my order to be taken at the same time as my husbands! Basic customer service skills. On a positive note, my food was still the same high standard as when we had previously visited, but my partners burger seemed not as good quality as before, he was really looking forward to it as it was brilliant on previous visits, but he said seemed like it had been bought from a lower grade wholesaler. The little snippets of attention to detail and addressing the customer service aspect would bring it back to the wonderful pub we enjoyed before.

I chose the Yew tree after seeing that it was a runner up a magazines best Sunday roast vote. The staff on the telephone and in the restaurant were great, and the pub is a very nice inviting place. The roast Beef dinner was £18 . The beef was excellent, rare and plentiful, as was the lamb rump that my partner had. But the potatoes, the thing that is surely the benchmark that we rate any Sunday roast on, that should be crispy crunchy ones like we have at home , were soft, soggy and it seemed no effort was made at all to roast them off. The carrots were also rubbery and obviously reheated too much. £17 is not a cheap or even average price for a Sunday roast, the roast potatoes are fundamental to it, and not hard to get right. Basically every thing else that was good about the place went out of the window. If I was only eating a sunday roast, it would be a 2

Not visited The Yew Tree in 10 or so years and had heard good reviews about it since it had been taken over by the same people who run The Grouse & Ale in nearby Lane End.Bar area was busy with locals which was great to see. Restaurant busy too. Liked the decor.Sunday menu had a good selection. We both opted for the roast dinners. Both dishes were very good. Great quality meat, well cooked and large portions. Wine list was also very good. Waiting staff need training and weren't great. Not very attentive and didn't seem to know what they were doing. Had to ask twice for condiments. Had no knifes on the table. The manager / main waiter was great though. Very personable and had his eye on all tables. Desserts were fab too. We sat in the conservatory area which I liked, however it needs a good clean. Have never seen so many cobwebs in my life - someone please sort this out as it was awful! I will be back, I liked the style of the place and really liked the food. Great place for a family lunch/dinner. Just needs a few tweaks and it will be an excellent dining venue.

On our last visit, three of us had dinner in the restaurant. It was not busy, yet the experience was rather impersonal and the staff lacked leadership. As customers, we felt we were almost in the way. What a stark contrast to the Yew Tree of a few months ago! The Yew Tree is like a ship with no-one at the helm. Perhaps once a week I pass the door, but have only eaten at the re-opened Yew Tree once around a year ago (friendly service, mixed food then). So I dropped in on a quiet Sunday lunchtime just for a drink while waiting for companions to finish a walk. The local beer was in good condition and came with a smile. Took my pint outside to sit in the sun and study the menu for another visit - there are several interesting looking dishes based around carefully sourced meat. The people I was waiting for arrived and I went to the bar and ordered them drinks too, served this time by (I think) the manager, who was fairly brisk. The three of us had been chatting at the only occupied table outside for maybe fifteen minutes when a third, young, member of staff asked whether he could bring us more drinks (thank you, but no); and whether he could bring a tray and clear our glasses. This he did (including the remains of my beer). If they’d been busy, I’m quite aware enough not to expect to sit talking over a drink when people want a table to eat. But that wasn’t the case. Lack of training or management policy? Guess it may be another year before I go back.

Visited today with a big group of friends and we were hoping for a terrific Sunday lunch based on feedback we’d heard. Sadly we were disappointed.

This is the second time visiting this pub and they didn’t disappoint. I had the roast beef and my partner had the ribeye steak. I had the apple crumble for dessert and my partner had the cheeseboard. The staff were pleasant and they interacted well with my 4 year old. Carlos the manager was lovely. Will certainly return and will recommend.

The food was a lovely as always and the service of the food to the table really good. The lovely girl who was serving us who had only been there a couple of days was truly excellent. The only reason why this time it’s not the full five stars was that the bar service to table was less than prompt. We had the ask 3 times about the drinks order and even though the staff were clearly trying their best, it took 20 minutes before they arrived. This is unusual for the Yew Tree and I am sure just a blip. It will not put us off as the food is excellent and I am sure next time round it will be back up to the full 5 stars.

A lovely pub in the country, but please can people keep their children under control, evening cut short due to yelling, screaming children, even saw some picking up the garden large stones and smashing them on the paving slabs. Driving out of the car park we had to be extra vigilant because they were there too. Family friendly pub is one thing but out of control kiddies is another! Such a shame but won’t be bothering going again.

I've been here with my wife and my sister in law yesterday (Sunday the 25th of August), and after seeing two fairly negative reviews related to the very same day, I'm more than pleased to counterbalance the reputation of this little Buckinghamshire gem.

We’re regulars at the Yew Tree and have always enjoyed the food and service but several times now on Sunday afternoons, the latest being today, we have been annoyed by some large groups of parents completely ignoring their young kids running round screaming at the tops of their voices the wholel time we were there. If staff would ask parents to have consideration for other diners and get their kids to behave properly that would be great, as it was,we left before dessert and coffee because of the annoying racket.

The food was, without a doubt, excellent, but alas the meal was spoiled. First, despite the restaurant having two tables occupied out of about ten, when we asked for the loud pop music to be turned down, the waiters were quite happy to do so, but apparently the manager overruled them. Eventually, it was turned down, and conversation could flow unhindered. But why play pop music in a restaurant anyway?

Situated in the beautiful village of Frieth, this recently refurbished gastropub has everything. Arriving at the pub you find a large car park, then a beautiful garden, followed by a genuine welcome in this very pretty building. The choice and quality of food is first class and you will definitely find something tempting from all three courses and won't be disappointed.

A proper picture book old country pub in a beautiful village setting. We were a group of 25 with kids and booked the day before. Sat in the lovely pub garden at the front of the pub. Food was excellent and reasonably priced for area. Good selection of local beers.

We hadn’t visited for some time so went as a family for lunch . The garden was beautiful with wonderful hanging baskets. The internal decor is very nicely done with lovely character. The staff were friendly and efficient . We were catering for vegans and vegetarians and I have to say the menu was very very put together . Interesting dishes and catering for vegans, vegetarians and gluten free . Very tasty starters with squid tempura and halloumi fritters being two interesting ones. Lovely salads and fish and good kids selection. Very good wine list so overall a very pleasant lunch

We went to the Yew Tree some years ago and being local to the area we drove past recently and dropped in for a late lunch. The pub has only been open about a year and a half in conjunction with a nice housing development behind the pub and it was a treat to eat and drink here, my wife and I both had their King Prawn dish ( small size ) followed a by a portion of the most gorgeous sticky toffee pudding with ice cream that I have ever tasted ! IN tandem with the Rebellion beer and really nice coffee everything was excellent and although it was not hugely busy Carl was a superb host and made us feel totally at home and welcome. Will return for sure.

When we were turned away with a brusque response from our local The Grouse and Ale in Lane End at 6pm (not one table was occupied and we only wanted a main course on the way home from a busy day at work) because they were due to be too busy later we decided to try The Yew Tree in Frieth. We were greeted with a completely different and refreshing attitude. They were busy already with a friendly buzz in the air and were due to be completely full by 715pm but the maitre d'/manager bent over backwards to accomodate us. We had an excellent meal, beautifully presented and tasty with attentive service, lots of smiles and a guaranteed return visit from us. We have not returned to The Grouse since!

Turned away from one pub and suggested the Yew Tree. Best suggestion ever as the Sunday roasts (pork and lamb) were absolutely fantastic. The desserts were melt in the mouth - sticky toffee pudding 10 out of 10. Friendly staff and great service.

Joined our friends for an evening meal at this their local pub. Pub has recently reopened after a refurbishment. What a great meal. I started with the prawn and crawfish which was really nice and for desert had the crumble with ice cream and custard. Both were very good but the star was the main course special of the day a rib for two to share with all the trimmings. Good wine, staff and a lovely pub. Great evening.

Popped into the pub last Thursday evening. The staff we really pleasant and polite. We had the Duck, Orange and Cognac Parfait to start along with Deep fried Camembert from the specials menu and then two mouthwatering steaks cooked to perfection. A good wine list and range of local beers. Would highly recommend and will be back again very soon.

I took my daughter and son in law for a roast but could only eat at 3.00pm as they were booked up. We waited 45 minutes and were so famished we could have eaten the table leg! A sharing rack of lamb was chosen and one roast beef.

Visited on bank holiday Monday, greeting and service was friendly. Serving staff well informed of what menu items included. Very good choice of menu items for differing food requirement choices (vegan, vegetarian and gf). All food beautifully cooked (I had the tuna, which was just right - pink and very tender) and presented, and good value. First visit, and will hopefully have the opportunity to go again.

This place is the best of the best. We visited for our first time and have returned many times. The food is top rate, salmon, parfait, Prawn starters. Main course of beautiful steaks, Sunday roast dinner, and much more. Slight downside is the food is quite expensive but you pay for the atmosphere. A lovely garden setting with wood fire inside for the winter. Carl who runs the place is so friendly & makes you feel special every visit. You must visit this pub, but remember to book on a hot sunny day.

Over the last few weeks we have enjoyed really high quality food, excellent and friendly service, an amazing choice of wine and the 'cleanest' beer in the area. We have had a family birthday in the private room, drinks and suppers with friends and an anniversary celebration for 2 in the garden and every event has been exceptional. It's a lovely mix of local faces - both adults and children and visitors to the area too and everyone is made to feel welcome by Carl and his team. The menu changes with the seasons and the quality of the ingredients is apparent from the taste and presentation. We would definitely recommend a visit!

Cannot fault this lovely, charming pub which never fails to deliver! It has everything you need - tasty food, great service and fantastic atmosphere. Carl and his team always go out of their way to make you feel welcome and nothing is ever too much trouble for them. I'd highly recommend the roasts on a Sunday - the meat is excellent (I had the pork belly, hubby had the beef). A friend of ours had the sea bass which she loved (and she's a fussy eater!!). We'll be back as soon as possible!

We visited for a Sunday roast with friends and chose the venue as it was dog friendly. I don't think they could believe the size of the Irish wolfhound our friend brought! Excellent friendly service and good food. Very good value.
