Had two nights here in May. Really nice room. Much larger than a standard double with beautiful views down the valley to the Thames below. Such a treat to have a full waiter/waitress service at breakfast with all elements perfectly cooked instead of the dreaded hotel buffet. Would highly recommend and would definitely stay again. The Oak dining room for dinner was perfect.

We spent three nights here for my husbands birthday. A card and some chocolates were left in the room which was a nice touch. They were really accommodating, especially as we asked for a ground floor room due to walking difficulties. The house and grounds were very well cared for by all of the staff. Very clean and welcoming. The staff were all welcoming. The only problem was the lady birds which infested the outside of the property and would mass around windows and doors. No a real problem as there would not have been anything the hotel could have done and they are not aggressive. They would just get into everything so more of a slight nuisance then anything else. Room was nice and cleaned everyday. Cleaner was a bit hit and miss with water being topped up, dirty glasses being removed and no tissues being topped up. There was a cupboard in the hallway which had multiple empty bottles and dirty glasses on it which stayed there all day. Had breakfast which was very good. Good coffee. Food cooked well. Overheard one of the managers praising one of the staff which was really nice to hear. Toast was a bit hit and miss and was more like warm bread or just toasted on one side. Was a bit annoyed about the service charge being added for two drinks when they only had to pour and walk four foot to serve us. The spa was good. Pool needs a good clean around the edges but otherwise it was clean and well maintained. Used the pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Nice that they have adult only times and it was lovely to relax in. lovely pieces of history throughout the property.

(This is a review of afternoon tea only, not of the hotel accommodation) Good points: Beautiful view from the Orangery (enhanced by playful resident cats); great service from our waiter. Bad points: the afternoon tea itself was one of the worst I've ever had, and I've had a lot. Apart from the insipid sandwiches, not one item was homemade. Not one. Even the scones were shop-bought and, considering the cost of scone ingredients, there's no excuse for that at all. If Danesfield House must use shop-bought products then you'd like to think they'd look local, or even to a high end supermarket. However their cakes and scones are more Costco than Waitrose. Cheap, stodgy, overly sweet and uninspiring The scones were all exactly the same size and shape. The profiteroles, brownies and macarons were just supermarket party food. There is nothing special about this afternoon tea at all, despite the delightful setting and nicely laid tables. I've worked in hospitality/catering (and I've eaten a lot of afternoon teas over the years) and I really don't know how Danesfield House gets away with this poor show. We did speak to our waiter about the shop-bought offering. He was lovely by the way. But there was no point him speaking to the chef on our behalf, as quite clearly a chef had never been near any of it! I'm assuming it's a conscious Mananagement decision to not make an effort with afternoon teas, in which case the manager responsible is in the wrong job. The worst thing for us was that this afternoon tea was bought for my husband and I as a gift by a family member. This family member thought they were doing something special for us, and I feel bad for them that they were ripped off by this hotel. I feel a bit sad that I'm giving such a bad review during a time when hospitality venues are suffering in the UK. But Brexit and cost-of-living aren't excuses to offer such poor value for money to customers There are some outstanding afternoon teas available around Bucks and Oxon, but this isn't one lf them. Please don't waste your money.

Once a year I save up to take my daughter away for a special treat. This year I chose DHS and was sadly underwhelmed. There were no delightful surprises. On the first night the spa was cold and overcrowded with no available beds. We were told by hotel staff spa would not close till l 10 pm but were asked to leave at 8.30pm as it was closing. They told us we would have to back to the hotel through the main entrance as they had locked the connecting door it was minus degrees and we were in wet gowns . Overpriced. Having a hot shower back in my room, the shower came away from wall and bashed me on head. The Velux window above our bed did not appear to have a blind so we were awoken early each morning by daylight. Some staff appeared brusk in demeanor while others were lovely. Afternoon tea (£45 per head) was, apart from the wonderful selection of teas, was disappointing and ordinary. The dinner potions for vegetarians was uninspired with pasta or risotto but very well executed by the chef. After dinner the grand sitting room was beautiful with tree and open fire, though very chilly with no blankets/throws. Overall I'd have to say poor value for money.

A very enjoyable walk around the gardens of Danesfield House led by head gardner Dan. We learnt about the history of the house and the time that the RAF spent there 1941-46. We stayed at Danesfield House for one night on an offer including a bottle of champagne, dinner and breakfast and use of the spa. Our room was huge with a sitting area, bedroom, bathroom and extra toilet. The bed was huge and comfortable (ziplink singles). It was very warm so we opened the windows and used the provided fan. Unfortunately all night there was either a boiler or motor running for a few minutes and then going off before restarting. I closed the windows but it was still audible so we didn’t sleep well. The pool and jacuzzi were lovely. Very clean with good changing rooms. The grounds are lovely but suffering from the heat at the moment which can’t be helped. Dinner was delicious. All 3 courses were good portions, very tasty and we polished off the lot! I have to mention our waiter Adam who is possibly the highlight of our stay! He has an infectious smile and really appears to enjoy his job. He should be put in charge of everything! Sadly breakfast was less enjoyable. The pastries appeared to be mass produced and cold rather than crispy, the toast was wafer thin and seemed to be cheap packet bread. The cooked breakfasts were ok but I would be happy if I was paying £25 per head. Service was courteous but lacking the charm of Adam! There was also someone hoovering right next to where we were eating so conversation was a challenge. Overall we had a very nice time (we were happy to see the back of the stairs as the lift is not working). There are things that could be improved but the staff are very friendly and dinner was excellent.

We visited Danesfield House to celebrate an anniversary. The grandness of the approach, gardens and building is where the enjoyment largely ended (present company excluded!). For what is claimed to be a high end hotel, one would expect to be- greeted and an enquiry made about our intentions (e.g. are you dinning with us)- not have to find a barman- not have to wait 25 minutes for a drink with only one other couple in attendance- not have to ask for our dinner order to be taken (service did improve thereafter) when you’re the only people in the restaurant - not served mayonnaise on a kids burger when we’ve asked for it be served plain. You kindly placed the tomato etc on the side...but not the mayonnaise. You need to work on your “know your customer” too. Information shared at the booking stage could easily be used to enhance your guests experience. Food was good and on par for the price point. The wine list is extensive and plenty options to suit your budget. However, we won’t be returning, nor can we recommend Danesfield House. What a pity.

The delightful views and gardens and attentive staff make this place a sure-fire choice for a special occasion apart, for us, for one thing. We've been taken here 2 or 3 times now and found that the restaurant is not the place for having a good vegetarian meal. For years we've been used to seeing one sole vegetarian option at the end of a long list of choices for meat and fish eaters. With the current advance in demand for vegetarian/vegan meals, we think that the chef needs to get up-to-date and think further than cooking just a pasta or risotto dish. This time we had great hopes because in the pre-order list was a vegetable wellington, which we ordered. Did we get it - no - instead a plate of pasta with a sprinkling of vegetables was placed in front of us. On querying the non-appearance of the wellingtons we were told that because there were only 2 orders the chef had decided not to prepare them but instead to provide us the 'chef's choice'. If we were not happy with the pasta dish the chef said that we could have.........you guessed it .....a risotto!!

We have just returned from a lovely day in Hurley and at Danesfield House. Having enjoyed a 90 minute walk along the Thames in Hurley, we drove round for our lunch reservation at Danesfield House. As you come via the entrance drive you realise that you are in a classic British home of old and this continues throughout the building and extensive grounds. From the Menu Du Jour, our party of x4 enjoyed various starters and main courses were mainly Sea Bass and I had breast of Duck which was served as two large chunks rather than sliced. The duck was ok and the sea bass excellent. Nobody had room for a dessert, so we shared the banana parfait (see picture) which was delicious! We had dinner and breakfast the following morning in the The Orangery part of the restaurant which had great views of the river and hills in the background during the day but could do with a lift during dinner times, perhaps some background music or something. That said, we really enjoyed our meal, wine and the service was superb. The couples massages we had in the spa unfortunately didn’t hit the spot, the technique of both masseuses wasn’t quite there. We would consider come back in summer.

There was plastic in one of my sandwiches, which was replaced with further pre-packaged sandwiches. I very rarely write a review but felt so compelled in this instance. I’ve stayed at Danesfield house on at least 8 occasions over the past 10 years and it’s always been lovely. I just got back today after an overnight spa break with 3 girlfriends and unfortunately the service itself was simply non existent-it was a ‘bizarre’ experience. The ladies in the spa were lovely and the treatments were lovely - unfortunately when we went outside for drinks and lunch - there was no waiting staff to take our lunch or drinks order - we were waiting over 40 minutes for someone to come and then a long wait for anything to come and then they didn’t come back! At dinner - the service was literally non existent. It’s such a shame because the surroundings are beautiful and the food itself was very good- there just seemed to be a lack of staff and who was there didn’t seem very happy or friendly - everything was an effort for them. We ordered a pre dinner cocktails which took 30 mins to come and then later ordered our food, after that no one asked us if we wanted another drink, it would half an hour a time before a member of staff passed to order a drink - we ended up not spending that much on drinks because there was no one to take our order! Then when our drinks bill arrived at the end, there were 2 drinks on there not belonging to us and a £14 service charge, which I told the waiting staff we wouldn’t be paying the service charge, as we hadn’t received any! It was taken off after challenging as they knew it was true! There is obviously a huge problem at this hotel and ‘things going on behind the scenes’. On check out, I felt it was deliberate that we were not even asked if we had enjoyed our stay - as they didn’t want to know the answer! I politely offered our feedback and pointed out the 2 positives, but advised them the service was appalling and they will lose guests if it doesn’t improve- the lady on reception basically agreed with what I said, but suggested management were not doing anything about it. I asked her to pass on our concerns and she said she would but that she had been there a year and nothing had changed. She said sorry only, but no offer of a discount or complementary voucher for a spa day or afternoon tea or anything. Unfortunately we will not be returning until reviews vastly and consistently improve - but it is unlikely it will improve overnight. They will be at risk of closure if it continues.... very disappointed, as it used to be so good. Management please do something radical ......

Service and wines were very good but we had an expectation of 4/5 star for a restaurant of this quality.

What a wonderful treat. We just welcomed our first child three weeks ago and it was our wedding Anniversary. We wanted to go out but tricky with a three week old who is being breast fed. Not only did the team make us feel very welcome, they surprised us with champagne and didn’t once feel difficult about feeding there . The food was yummy and the venue was lovely and clean! Also the changing facilities were very good and even had a basket of spare nappies which I thought was a lovely touch! Thank you for making one of our first family outings so special!

My husband and I had a fabulous lunch at the Danesfield House. The estate is absolutely magnificent and you truly feel like royalty upon entering the property. Our servers were very attentive and prompt upon us being seated. We both had a pasta appetizer, that was large enough for a meal and outrageously delicious. My husband chose a chorizo dish, which he totally enjoyed. I had the salmon which was served over potatoes with a hollandaise sauce, superb! We finished with a chocolate tart and the crème brulee, which was a perfect ending to a perfect meal. We then strolled the property, which was breathtaking. When visiting the area again, we'll definitely stay overnight and look forward to another fabulous meal at the Danesfield House.

Sitting in breathtaking sourroundings on the terrace under the shade of white umbrellas makes you feel both relaxed and pampered. The traditional afternoon tea spread was delicious and varied. With a tiered platter of the lightest of scones and sandwiches plus a slate with other tasty morsels you can spend a couple of hours being decadent. They are happy to take dietary requirements into account and provide equally tantalising treats for those who need this facility. If you want to treat yourself, or someone else, this is the place to do it.

We visited Danesfield House for a lovely girly day - we had our nails done in the spa before sitting down on the sun terrace for lunch. The grounds of Danesfield House are it's crowning glory, a real delight to wander around. There are a number if different menus to choose from - afternoon tea, set lunch, main lunch etc. Service was rather relaxed, with the service team not always seeming fully briefed on the menu - for example, I asked one waiter what desserts were dairy free, only to be told that they all could be. This turned out not to be the case and all I could have was sorbet.A main meal was adapted to fit my requirements, however the resulting dish was rather salty and could have too salty for many. However I thought it was yummy.

This is a beautiful country house standing on high ground overlooking the Thames river and countryside. The staff were extremely polite and helpful and the rooms clean.although the bathroom needed a lick of paint to tidy it up. We had a balcony room overlooking the river and hills beyond. The bed was very comfortable and the room well furnished. We had an excellent lunch with good choices and breakfast the next morning was excellent.

Having had several afternoon teas, this one was by far the best. The food was delicious. The ambience and scenery were amazing. The staff were great, very accommodating and friendly. I'm already considering when I can go again for the lunch. The lady on the opposite table was having duck, which looked delicious. I bought a voucher for my mums 70th birthday. It was good value for money.

We have been to Danesfield House before and this visit was equally as good as our last. Our room was comfortable, we had a stunning view of the hotel grounds and the river. During the evening we had a delicious meal in the restaurant and in the morning the Eggs Benedict was fantastic. We also used the spa and had a walk around the hotel grounds. What made our stay so enjoyable was the level of service the staff delivered. They were all very professional, caring and considerate.

Very traditional cuisine. We have eaten an excellent duck. The lobster soup was too salty. Steak was very boring served with fries. The breakfast is very english and basic.

Lovely! Just lovely! Staff were friendly and polite. Nothing was too much to ask! They even moved us to a different location as one end of the restaurant was very busy, so they put us in a quieter location. Sandwiches were lovely, scones yummy and the cakes delightful! We upgraded one of our teas to champagne - however one glass for an additional £10 is a LOT of money - wouldn't do that again!! Other than that I'd highly recommend. The grounds are stunning - it's a must to walk around!

I visited for lunch with a friend. Our welcome was friendly and we were seated in the Orangery. We were given the both lunch and a la carte menus and decided to eat from the a la carte. We weren't offered any water and had to ask for it. We weren't given any bread (other than the toasted brioche that came with my friend's foie gras parfait. I chose the crab and shrimp cocktail, which arrived in a tall cocktail glass. The shellfish was presented on a bed of salad leaves with very long stalks and I was given a teaspoon and fork to eat it with. The glass was nearly on a level with my chin, so I had my arms way up in the air trying to dig down to get some of the leaves and some of the shellfish, which was really uncomfortable and probably didn't look terribly elegant, not to mention that the long stalks on the leaves were dangling all over the place and the whole thing was impossible to eat. I ended up dumping the whole thing onto the tiny plate the glass was served on, cutting it all up and eating it from there. Does nobody actually try to EAT a dish when they're dreaming up how to serve it? By the way, after finishing the starter, we still hadn't been offered any wine and had to ask for it. They brought our mains out (still no wine after perhaps 15 minutes or more) so I complained and asked for it to be brought quickly, which it was. My hake dish was lovely although the ham it came with was a bit strange, covered in thick tomato sauce. My friend's whiting and chips was disappointing - the chips were pallid and tough, and when she tried to cut them, the knife just dented them down to the plate and the batter on the whiting was thick enough to have come from a chinese take-away! Through all this, we still weren't offered any bread although others had it on their tables. We didn't particularly want bread, but it should have been offered! My friend's creme brulee was nice and I opted for the cheese which I commend them for charging the same price as the desserts - usually it costs more. My friend did complain about her main course, and to be fair they made a reduction on our bill, but actually what I want when I go out to eat is great service and great food, and this place delivered neither. There's a training issue here, if only for their profitability. We might have ordered bottled water had we been offered it (when we asked for water, a jug was brought and our glasses filled from that). And to fail to offer wine as soon as the food order has been placed is just crazy. Such a lot of little things adding up to a lot that's wrong.

We visited for Afternoon Tea for a special occasion. The food was absolutely delicious, plentiful, perfectly proportioned and beautifully displayed on platters and tiered stands. Huge praise to the kitchen staff (only one minor suggestion, perhaps add one unusual sandwich filling to liven up the sandwich layer)The staff however really desperately require proper training. Very poor understanding how to serve afternoon tea. I have eaten in many hotels for Afternoon Tea. This experience could very easily have been ruined by the poor standards of staff had we let it. Instead we had a huge laugh about how absolutely appalling they were. Keep in mind the prices are just a fraction below that asked at the very top hotels in London, service needs to reflect the price. If you are just to dump the items on a table and disappear for the afternoon, then why the £9 compulsory service charge? You need to earn it!!The table was reserved and waiting for us, yet half the place settings were missing. When the rest were requested the waiter seemed completely oblivious we had to outline what was missing. The waiter moaned all afternoon, he didn't want to be there. Tea was delivered and when a top up and change in tea blend was requested we were expected to drink from the same cup as the previous tea. The tea pots are very small, holding just one and a half cups, so when a further top up was requested a while later I was asked why I wasn't topping it up with the extra pot of hot water. I explained it had gone cold and begrudgingly a further pot was delivered. Over the course of 3 hours we had three cups of tea, not too much to ask for a top up?No pouring of tea by the waiters, not even the first cup on arrival, so no hope of any top ups, the delicious food was plonked on the table. In fact when the tier and platter of food was delivered from another waitress she impatiently told us to help her out she couldn't do it all on her own!!When I went in search of the toilet I was continually blocked in corridors from gossiping staff, other times staff were bowling through doorways and I had to stand back and let them through first and not even a thank you in return. When will places learn poor service can spoil a visit and not entice you to return. This hotel should be working out what the service is they aim to provide, be choosing the right staff in the selection process, and giving them the adequate training and regular refreshers to ensure they serve the Danesfield way. Nothing could stop us enjoying the beautiful views, delicious food and wonderful company of friends. However, your staff won't earn accolades for themselves or the hotel and could be the reason for not wanting to return for a second visit.

When we ate lunch here a year ago the food was poor and the service was off hand this year was a complete turn around. The food was good, the service timely, pleasant and crisp. As a group we selected from both the a la carte and the three course lunch menu. Of the four meals only the Crab, Brown Prawn Cocktail starter at £16.50 disappointed. I have read that others had mixed views but if they keep up the standard we had on Tuesday then this is a good venue in a lovely setting.

This is an imposing Hotel set in extensive and well-tended grounds with lovely views over the Thames. We were offered two comprehensive menus and chose from their three course lunch menu. The service was impeccable and the food well presented and delicious. My only criticism is that portions were rather too generous!

There are a tonne of amazing restaurants in Marlow, and this unfortunately isn't one of them. I had the scallops to start- usually my favourite but they were ruined by the marinade - lime juice and ginger. It was essentially a ceviche, but with cooked (I think) sliced scallops. I was really unimpressed. I then had the muscle linguine- not as bad but there was sand in a few of my muscles. That always makes for uncomfortable eating. My husband's food wasn't as bad - but by no means excellent. Service, however was really good.
