The tapas served at Pulpo Negro is a step up from what you might expect. Delicious, beautifully presented food in a lovely setting with attentive and knowledgeable service. But the portions are small and the prices seem high to me. A restaurant best reserved for very special occasions.

My 16 year old son and I enjoyed lovely freshly made sandwiches, cup of tea and conversation with Sarah. We'll go back the next time we visit Alresford.

I want to say how amazing the staff are at this coffee shop. My son was having a bad day on Friday and went into the cafe to ask for some help. Staff member Anna was there to help and support my son when he needed it. She rang my phone and wasn't able to get through and even gave him money for a bus. I went into today to explain to them what had happened and thanked them for their help and wanted to pay them back but they said no need which is so kind of them.

Probably my most favourite pub in Hampshire. Another wonderful evening. The steak was cooked to perfection. Delicious. No wonder so many of my friends rate this pub so highly!

We had booked a late lunch at the Horse and Groom, and just as we were leaving the poor chap phoned to see if we were still coming – the weather was dreadful, and most people were cancelling. Nevertheless, we went ahead, though we didn't find many customers in the pub. Curiously, we were directed to a very small table for two, but when we looked dubious we were given a choice of others. For those who like armchairs by a roaring fire, those are available too. We both had the chicken liver pâté to start; the chutney was very good. Then my husband had ham, egg and chips and I had a sort of 'thai' chicken curry. It was made with thigh, not breast meat – guess that's OK... The sauce was good and spicy, but it didn't seem to have penetrated to the meat. Both of us found our portions far too large; I only finished about two-thirds of the meat. No room for pudding. The young staff were pleasant and welcoming, and service was friendly and efficient. However, sorry but I really don't like being addressed as 'guys'! A small point, but relevant in this part of the country – please correct the spelling of 'chalk' in 'chalk stream trout'!

Food was great really enjoyed it, service was shockingly bad, missed orders, didn't clear plates , tried to deliver a dessert to a table with lots of empty plates , but didn't thing to make room by clearing it. Coffee cups are ridiculously small, why be mean when its only about a bit more water!

This was a pub that we have been going to since 1973 but will NOT be again!!We are a bunch of friends(7) that meet up to have a Sunday roast and a chat and catch up. My wife booked the table 16 days before and when we got there we had been place in a very drafty place where all the comings and goings were and it was very cold and windy! We found another table but were not allowed to change as it was where the bar Manger had placed us. The food was less than we were led to believe ! cold food for a Roast Sunday Lunch is not on anybodies list of things to do for a fun Sunday. The veg were pre- cooked and warmed up and placed on the side of the plate.Roast potatoes were tasteless Beef tough and pork very very fatty!
