The best restaurants in Speen West Berkshire South East

From the time we arrived till we left what an amazing restaurant and the friendliest staff ever. We were greeted by the manager and head chef. We had driven from Brighton to eat here and it certainly was worth it. The food is just beautiful and the tasting menu was explained to us every step of the way. From the beginning to the end it was just perfect. We were even given some cookies when we left for our journey home the following day. Henry and his team are just so kind polite and friendly. We had a wonderful evening and definitely will return. Thank you Damson. Xxxx

Superbe diner dans un restaurant rénové avec gout. Nous n'avions pas bien compris l'étoile Michelin de l'ancien Blackbird mais sommes très étonné de l'absence d'un 1ère étoile si nous regardons de près le menu "hommage" dégusté hier soir. Tout est parfait, des ingrédients de base de haute qualité et une cuisine élaborée parfaite. Des assemblages de saveurs très justes comme l'ananas Victoria avec le jambon de Bayonne assaisonné d'une vinaigrette dosée à la perfection. Que dire du canard laqué maison et du dessert à la rhubarbe confite . En un seul mot tout est parfait. Surtout ne changez rien. L'erreur des inspecteurs Michelin sera vite réparée.

Usually come here after cricket for a quick bite and a drink. Excellent selection of food (chicken wings and thighs were delicious) and drinks are all reasonably priced.

It's been a while since we first visited, it didn't disappoint and was just as we remembered. Great attention to detail. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Above all great food. We won't leave it so long next time. Just perfect.

I arranged to meet family & friends here to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. I'd checked out several places that would offer easy access from the motorway for people coming from both north & south, had great reviews for food and service, and an overall attractive appearance. The Fox & Hounds ticked every box and more. Without realising at the time of booking, we arrived for 1 p.m. on Easter Sunday. Our food orders had been requested a week before at the latest, which saved time when we were seated, especially as a couple of people were late. I'd also had a late addition to our party just as I'd sent over our orders via email and although they were fully booked, the staff were good enough to add a place to the end of the table. The communication and accommodation of the staff was excellent. Upon arrival, we were made to feel very welcome with smiles and friendly chat. Despite the place being completely packed, none of our party of 11 could fault the food or service. The ambience was just right; no having to shout at each other to be heard. Everyone commented on how delicious their food was, from the kids fish & chips to pork loin, burgers, lamb and more. A variety of desserts were also enjoyed by all. The level of service was top notch, which was impressive considering how busy they were. As some of us were smokers, we spent time outside, which was beautifully presented with lots of tables and seating. The Fox & Hounds is a dog friendly pub, it's worth noting. I always rate pubs and restaurants by their toilets! In this case, they were nicely decorated and well kept, with hand wash and lotion, and good mirrors. There was a good selection of lagers and ales available at the bar, as well as wine by the glass or bottle and plenty of none alcoholic drinks. We also had jugs of water with our meals. We would all highly recommend a visit here.

We just returned from a delightful Double Birthday celebration at The Boxford, and I can't recommend it enough! Our large group enjoyed a variety of delicious food, and the dessert presentation was nothing short of fantastic. A special shout-out to Theo, who made our experience truly memorable with his wonderful sense of humor and professional management. Despite having some new staff in training, he expertly kept everything running smoothly and ensured high standards were maintained throughout our visit. Thank you, Theo, for making our celebration so special!

Lovely food and fantastic portion paid £47 for two meals and two drinks and the food is very worth the price. Delicious . Will come again

I almost feel bad about writing this review but quite honestly, I am SO sad and disappointed that my husband's 65th birthday was such a wash out. We celebrated our wedding here in July 2015 so it's a special place for us. There was one person manning the bar, taking orders and flying in and out of the kitchen to collect the food. Every time he entered the bar area, there was an almighty SLAM as the door closed. Even to those of us with hearing problems, this was enough to ruin the evening. Two of our cheese soufflé dishes were half their normal size but we couldn't face another 20 minute wait to have them made again. The menu was so limited, I ended up with an enormous bowl of salad and chips for my main course as I didn't fancy vegan fish and chips. There was some kind of conference taking place in the main restaurant and when they all came into the bar, the noise was incredible. I now understand the fella trying to serve absolutely everyone (Ben) had only rostered himself because there were only two tables booked. Was there nobody on standby in case it got busy? We were asked whether we wanted puddings and my 'knowing look' to remind Ben we'd brought a cake didn't work. He was so stressed, I'm surprised he didn't scream at me! I asked if they had a candle. They didn't. I had brought one (luckily) and it's a miracle my husband didn't notice all the covert whispering and shenanigans. We felt sorry for Ben. He was overrun but surely, an extra 50 or so walk ins warranted a phone call for back up. We had been told the menu was pathetically small because they'd been so busy over the Easter weekend. I'll never forget my salad and chips main course :-( None of the above issues were our fault and my husband's 'special' meal was anything but. Very sad indeed but it's unlikely we'll go back to our wedding reception venue again.

The food here is consistently amazing! The flavors are bold, the ingredients fresh, and the service is exceptional. The warm ambiance makes it my favorite spot in town.

Speen Community Cafe is the pop up on Wednesday's Love the vibe and the mixture of community members and visitors. Very enjoyable I sit at the craft table with Mo Hopkins I learn to focus and concentrate in a busy place this is difficult but very beneficial.

Just outside Newbury, this was a great place for a birthday lunch. The food was fresh and tasty and the atmosphere was relaxed and peaceful. We enjoyed seeing the koi carp in the pond outside and I enjoyed the themed wallpaper in the ladies cloakroom! We had a wonderful time and I look forward to future visits.

After complaint ( wine arrived without top and tasted like it had been mixed & steak was fatty) I received the following by email - nothing during dinner though.“ I am equally disappointed with your experience here at The Hare & Hounds as you are. It is simply not what you should expect from us.Given you took time out of your day to provide feedback, it gives me hope there is a chance to win you back and make this right. Greg, it’s important to me that you know that hospitality and making my guests happy is what keeps me going, and I do not take negative feedback lightly.Please allow me some time to regroup with my team and get back to you”Never heard anything back and when I tried to reply to email it was a ‘no-reply’ email address.For a £135 bill ( for 2 people, excluding the service charge) I expected a lot better !

Went there for a big birthday, Break from everyday life. Looking forward to having some space, TV didn't work. Only compensation was 3 bottles of beer and a lie about a discount for the room. Waste of money and time. Not a pleasure but an expensive inconvenience. Why they don't check everything is working between guests is beyond me.
