Meal to celebrate a 70th birthday. Excellent food, wine and service. Looked after especially well by Huw. I regularly visit the restaurant but haven't been there since 2024, for no particular reason. Many of the staff I previously had met were not there today but the staff that were provided an excellent service.

I came to the Woodspean with family for dinner and it was a wonderful experience. The restaurant is very clean and organised, our waiter was friendly and the food was delicious. There is a good variety of items on the menu and they were happy to make adjustments. Would highly recommend to newcomers!

Visiting Newbury for the first time, i decided to try this Restaurant and i was amazed by the quality of food and services, their hospitality is top notch and the taste of food is second to non. Will surely go again.

Our fourth visit over the last six months, including two ‘big’ birthday celebrations (!), which is an obvious testimony to the outstanding quality - and consistency - of food and service. Range of choice across both the a la carte and set menus, complemented by a fantastic wine list always makes for a memorable and relaxed dining experience in a wonderful setting. Food is always beautifully prepared and exquisitely presented and service exceptional; friendly but unstuffy and unobtrusive. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Excellent Restaurent, recommend it.

Our a la carte evening meal didn’t meet our expectations or, in our opinions, offer good value for money particularly compared with other competitive local options. Crab raviolo starters were substantial and presented with a separately poured sauce and meagrely spooned caviar; scallops could have had a more moist accompaniment. Guinea fowl breast mains was quite acceptable but halibut was somewhat overcooked and with a hefty slab of black pudding it lacked finesse. Before leaving, I went to the lavatory and couldn’t get the door unlocked. I didn’t have an immediate panic attack, hoping my friends would realise they needed me to pay the bill, but each minute in a cubicle with no windows or other means of escape of raising the alarm felt like half an hour, so I was rather distrait when a member of staff eventually released me. The food and wine wait staff were full of apologies, the service charge was taken off the bill but the manager’s response to the incident could have been more fulsome and gracious. We won’t be rushing back, sorry.

Bad experience. Food was mushy, cold and over seasoned.

The high heat of the grill sears the outside to perfection, locking in the juices while imparting a slightly crispy, caramelized crust. The meat itself is lean but incredibly tender, with a subtle gamey taste that pairs beautifully with earthy sides like wild mushrooms, roasted root vegetables, or a rich red wine reduction.

Absolute gem of a place! My partner said it’s the best food she has had at a restaurant ever! It Was refined great tasting food. Modern looks with charm. Upmarket kind of place. Staff were friendly and attentive. Will definitely come here again when we are back in the area.. would recommend 👍🏻🥂

Excellent. The set menu only has three choices for the main course I have been many times before and I thought usually there were more dishes to choose from. It was however superb we both had different dishes and they were exceptional. I had a minor problem with my chicken and it was changed straight away. Faultless service and a perfect lunch.

From walking in to leaving, a really great experience! We arrived and had our coats taken by the lovely front desk lady. Once at our table we went relaxed after a walk and took in the surroundings. Really well set up, very relaxing ambience and loads of staff which is so important for this standard. Great food, starters, mains, puddings. Really good use of local products where possible, great wine choices, impressive all round. I didn't take many pictures as I enjoyed the moment! Oh - the cheese board was delightful! (Prices appropriate given the standard of food and service).

A fantastic experience, we have been for lunch a number of times and this was up to the usual high standards. Staff welcoming, friendly and efficient, food was fantastic. We will certainly return on a more regular basis.

It's very unpleasant when you buy a service on the basis of online reviews. I have done many reviews, but always only of what I have tried myself. From now on, reviews, and especially stars, can no longer be trusted. It turns out there is a well-developed business of raising or lowering the ratings of entrepreneurs. And it is immoral to pay some "entrepreneurial middlemen" money for ratings. Unfortunately it is. Today I was offered to join a "team" that ranks companies for a fee. I am trying to guess that all this is not without the knowledge of these ranked companies.

The whole experience was exceptional,friendly environment and kids had a relaxed atmosphere.Strongly recommend to everyone.

Went for my birthday lunch with husband to use voucher given to me by son for Christmas. Everything about the Woodspeen exceeded expectations. The food was out of this world, the staff exceptional and we left feeling we'd discovered an absolute gem which must be visited again! If you've not yet visited the Woodspeen why not treat yourself.

Flawless staff and very slick operation without feeling forced. The architecture and colour scheme is very welcoming and acoustically clever. Romantic and out of this world food and wine!

Beautiful, seasonal food in a beautiful setting, the lunch menu is great value, the cocktails are superb, the staff are friendly, helpful and attentive, it's a great restaurant for a special meal. The Tarte Tatin is especially delicious.

Delicious Sunday lunch, the only shame was no beer on tap but hardly a show stopper! Food was delicious and tarte tatin dessert a sticky, gooey highlight!

We had the pleasure of dining at the Woodspeen for a birthday celebration. The welcome on arrival was warm and we had aperitifs and home made crisps whilst choosing from the menu. After being shown to our table we had sourdough bread and homemade hummus before our starters arrived. Three of our party had the scallops and the other had the crab crumpet. Absolutely sublime, every mouthful was savoured. My main was the roasted Halibut and the others had the shared Monkfish tail and the Pumpkin cannelloni. Clean plates all round. To finish a celebration cake had been ordered which is created by the Woodspeen and was beautiful and rich yet light. We had a lovely evening and will be back for our next celebration.

Amazing Service and Food Quality, taste was good

Following an earlier disappoint a few years ago, and hearing good things about the Woodspeen again, we decided to try the four course Xmas lunch and again, walked away very disappointed. For our first course, we both had the Lobster Ravioli and whereas it was very nice and flavoursome, it didn't "wow" us. For the second course, we had two different dishes, I had the Duck liver and breast terrine, and my wife had the beetroot terrine. The Beetroot terrine felt it was just chunks of beetroot squashed in a mould and cut to shape. My Duck Terrine had pieces of inedible sinew that was rather dull in flavour and neither at all pleasing to the eye or flavoursome. The main course was the major disappointment. The Turkey was OK although erring on the dry side, but the veg was too hard, even if it was passed off as al dente it was still too hard to eat. The deserts were splendid and the reason my review gets two stars instead of one. Both were very flavoursome, and well presented. I did mention to the manager that the veg was too hard to eat who apologised and took the drinks off the final bill. But this review, as was my last, was not about the money, it's about expectation. You go to an establishment like this with pre-set levels of flavour, fantastic service, and quality of food that is classed as fine dining or as close to fine dining as you can get. Sadly, our xmas day four course menu fell far short of expectations, and, as a side note, the men's toilets are a disgrace. Not fine dining, not a michelin star quality establishment, very overpriced and we won't be returning sadly.

Calm mature setting with jazz music playing (perhaps a little loudly for me) in the background. Good social spacing and for us an excellent view of the kitchen service preparation area. Photos of food speak for themselves 🙂 2024 December 28th A different review sadly. Ordered version. Well presented but needed more jus. No one asked if everything was OK with the meal. Both my guest and I left our deserts as they weren't to our liking. She chose the vanilla custard and I the pumpkin choux bun. Disappointing.

The service is exceptional. The food is very good but not exceptional. I had cycled 70 miles before hand and I filled up on their excellent home made sourdough bread, and as a result was able to really enjoy my main course, which wasn't huge. The coffee was delicious and came with a delightful chocolate. I had 2 cups as a result. No ludicrous chocolatey dessert which was disappointing personally. Very expensive. Lovely though.

Food has gone downhill a fair bit and the price has gone the opposite direction, it is decent food but decent is all around us nowadays.

contacted me on telegram (obviously falsely) asking me to write a fake 5 star review. obviously not something i plan on doing but i also doubt the restaurant owners are the ones DOING this.

Perfect experience, service, food, portions, everything. Worth every penny and I'm a fairly miserly guy, I'd say if it wasn't. Paid more for less elsewhere. Spectacular care over my allergy only had to tell one member of staff once.
