Was disappointed that we had to pay a £10 per person deposit on booking and as 1 member of our party couldn't make it last minute we were charged £10 for him even though the restaurant was nearly empty.

If you're looking for a quintessential country pub experience with delicious food and warm hospitality, look no further than The Eastbury Plough. This charming establishment truly exceeded our expectations, making for a memorable lunch outing. The food at The Eastbury Plough was simply delicious. Every dish we ordered was prepared with care and attention to detail, showcasing the freshest local ingredients. What truly sets The Eastbury Plough apart is the exceptional service provided by their friendly and attentive staff. They were not only efficient but also incredibly engaging and personable. It's a rare treat to have people who remember each guest's order, making the dining experience feel truly tailored and special. Special mention must be made of the desserts, which were nothing short of heavenly. My mother-in-law, a seasoned connoisseur at 92 years old, proclaimed the pain au chocolat and brioche bread and butter pudding to be the best she's ever had. High praise indeed from someone who has undoubtedly sampled countless desserts throughout her life!

We would rarely chose to go out for a Sunday Roast, as quite frankly most restaurants cannot get close to being as good as my husband cooks at home! But not at The Plough at Eastbury…. Their roast (whatever meat) exceeds anything - including ours at home! Beautifully presented, perfectly cooked, piping hot - nothing short of 5*. The prawn thermador is a must have for us even though you know this won’t leave room for a pudding after main course! I would drive the 25 mile round trip just for the prawn thermadore! Then for me - the dirty burger… I promise myself every visit, I will order something else - but my belly would feel it has been let down having built its hopes up all day! This burger really is “not just any burger “ - you’ve got to experience it to understand! The staff are so friendly, so helpful, quietly efficient behind the scenes to provide excellent service to match the food front of house. There are so many places around to go, but we’ve given up wasting our time and money trying - so we just keep on returning!!!!! IT IS THE VERY BEST PLACE - thank god we don’t live in the village, we would spend far too much time in there!

This was are all-time favourite place to eat - we're both foodies. I've always rated this as five star. On our last visit, the food wasn't up to it's normal excellence, but I didn't write a review as I felt, everyone has a bad day (or perhaps they had a stand-in chef). Today we were hoping for an excellent lunch, but unfortunately it wasn't. The thermidor sauce had very little taste - could barely taste the cheese let alone any cognac (about a year ago, you could taste both). The steak was beautifully cooked, but the brandy sauce was tasteless. The bill for two courses was high, but we wouldn't have minded if we felt it was worth it. The staff are lovely and the ambience is too and I genuinely feel heartbroken having to write this. However, because of their previous excellence, I hope by informing them, it will benefit both them and us.

We visited after a lovely walk in the area as I was visiting the cemetery at Upper Lambourn. Not knowing the area at all, we happened upon the pub and decided to grab a bite to eat before heading home. What can I say?! It’s the perfect pub. Two lovely roaring fires in the bar area, a beautifully decorated bar, and a lovely soft smooth new oak bar to prop yourself up at! We were greeted warmly, and seated quickly with no problems to accommodate my dog. Staff were lovely and very helpful, and menus arrived immediately. Amazing choice on the menu - I struggled to choose and they were more than happy to tweak the food to leave out things my friend isn’t fond of. The food was clearly cooked fresh as it didn’t arrive immediately, and arrived steaming hot and presented well. Really good value, and food the other diners had also looked amazing! We will most definitely be returning, and if fact if I could copy and paste this pub to become my local I would be more than delighted! (Although I’d probably develop a suspicious regular habit!) Thanks for a wonderful lunch and we will be back!

The Eastbury Plough is a cosy pub/dining room in a quintessentially English rural setting, it was perfect for a meet up with a bunch of friends on a freezing winter’s day. Food was great, excellent quality, not cheap but this is a place to come for a treat rather than for slap up pub food. Sticky toffee and Guinness pudding & ice cream was divine. Staff delightful, genuinely warm and welcoming. The only criticism was that plate used for my main course was not warm which meant my beef cooled down long before I’d finished. Really looking forward to a nice meal with friends this evening. Had had good reviews but we were so disappointed. Husbands steak was sent back as asked for medium rare but was well done. Friend ordered burger which looked like a load of mush, so she left most of it. I ordered goujons which were cold and not cooked, chips were nice though! Service was good and they rectified by reducing the bill. But was shocked to see 15% service charge was added to the bill which we were not aware off! Big, big food! Well cooked and interesting. Lots of fish and meat dishes and a few veggie dishes too - though not a massive choice. Slightly put off by the very wordy menu as i dont have much patience for reading at the moment but once the food came I could see the character of the menu writer in the food and all made sense. Everything was delicious and the dessert menu was fab - we weren't going to order but couldn't resist. The burgers were massive and enjoyed by all. I had tandoori duck and this was cooked beautifully. Lovely warm, good humoured service. Staff didn't seem harassed despite having a very large party of ladies in the bar and a busy lunch service. We did wait a while to order desserts and pay but this is fairly usual! Food came in a timely fashion (not too quick - so nice and fresh) We will be back! My only very slight comment would be that the bakewell tart was a little lacking in almond flavour for my taste, though my partner also had it and really enjoyed it!

I am still over the moon about our lovely meal on Friday at the Plough in Eastbury. I have half a dozen favourite un-missable foods that, if they are on a menu, I will order. Sweetbreads, kidneys, calves liver and mussels. So it was a no-brainer when I visited The Plough - mussels. As a confirmed foodie, I have eaten them all over the world. The bowl presented to us on Friday was the best I have ever had in my life - as an octogenarian, that is saying something. Beautifully cooked, plump, tender, and with a sauce to die for. So often the sauce is almost inedible, either too salty, too much cream, so much can ruin the taste. Really, I have to congratulate the chef. The sole that followed was delicious, with a tasty garnish and samphire. But two days later I am still enjoying the memory of the mussels! I stayed with my cousins who live in the same village, I drove 80 miles to get there. I am going to be a far more frequent visitor in the future. A memorable visit. A lovely bar, most attractive decor. Great service from Anita and the others and a charming welcome from the proprietor.

We visited the Eastbury Plough on Saturday 29 Jul 2023 for the first time to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We thought the food was mostly exceptional and very good value for money. We both had starters - mine was scallops and black pudding and was absolutely delicious. My husband had two starters - taco’s and spring rolls and when he had his first taste made appreciative noises (sorry but this is the best way I can describe what happened. The person that had recommended the restaurant to us was a chef and recently he had a burger there. We decided to try the burgers too - the description of them was just too too exciting. I know that doesn’t sound very exciting but to put it in context - these burgers (we both had the Alabama) are so packed full of goodies that they come with a steak knife through the top of the brioche bun. The knife is in the burger right up to the handle to give you and idea of the size of these burgers. They are absolutely rammed full of flavour and to us it is the best burgers we have ever had. The one recommendation I would give is that if you are going to have an Alabama don’t have a starter. To give you an idea of how good we thought these were - we have had burgers at the Double Red Duke in Clanfield which is very much more expensive restaurant and until now we thought their burgers were the best we had ever had. Both are cooked over fire which gives them a lovely smoky taste. After we struggled to finish the burgers they asked - would we like to see the dessert menu. We had both agreed that we wouldn’t have a dessert but would just have a look at the dessert menu - well - there were so many comforting, delicious, tempting things on there we both ordered a dessert - me the old English caramel pear tart aka a pear tarte tatin which was stunning - light crispy pastry properly cooked - no soggy bottom here, and deep caramelised pears on top with simple beautiful vanilla ice cream. I was so disappointed that I didn’t manage to finish it - I didn’t want the chef to think that I hadn’t absolutely loved it. My husband had the Bakewell tart but he didn’t enjoy that as much as I enjoyed my tarte tatin. We thought the food in general was awesome and will be back as soon as we can. If money was no object we would eat here every week. Highly recommended.

I have been visiting the Plough for many years and the standard of food has been consistently high. Today’s visit with a group of friends was no exception. The menu choices are imaginative, varied and extremely tasty; the service is impecable and the pub was...

Lovely cooked breakfast, great that you can select exactly which items you want as I personally hate beans and hash browns on a breakfast, so could easily avoid those and have extra mushrooms and tomatoes! Service was efficient, the breakfast was freshly cooked to order. It wasn’t overly greasy and was piping hot. Very much enjoyed. Giving 4 stars only because the cutlery is absolutely terrible to use! Knife blunt and uncomfortable to hold (jabs into hands), and as the bacon was slightly overdone (I don’t mind, I prefer it this way that the other) the knife was useless for cutting through it which was a tad annoying. This said, if passing through Lambourn again would absolutely return. Many thanks.

A Well cooked meal, hot and well presented. The Ibex is situated in Chaddleworth, a pretty village in West Berkshire, about 7 miles North of Newbury. A good chef.

Wonderful place from start to finish. Excellent service, I don’t think the dropped fork had properly stopped bouncing on the beautiful polished floor before a replacement was in position. The decor is inviting, but the real reason we were there was for a special occasion , a memorable meal and we were delighted. We had the chef’s menu with accompanying wines. Gorgeous!

The little skewers were nice. The lemon sole and ravioli special were satisfyinf and tasty dishes, but the mackeral was very ordinary and the crab souufle was disappointingly small. The menu offers mackeral with aubergines, but the amount of aubergines was derisory. The crab accompaniment of leeks was a thimblefull, and one should request a magnifying glass to find the tomatoes with the potatoes. The worst was the cider - we ordered half pints and got tiny portions in wine glasses. My guest is a member of the gourmet Food Writers' Guild and even she was surprised by the meanness. The service was OK, but not worth the fixed charge of 12.5%.
