Needed a pub in Newbury area, that catered for gluten free and had chicken as an option for Sunday roast for a family meet up. Nice venue, with friendly staff. The food looked amazing and was pretty good taste wise. The potatoes were a little soft inside (over parboiled maybe) but just a small point. Very nice venue for a Sunday roast and would recommend to others.

5* Sunday Roast Everything about the experience you get at The Red House is exemplary, A lovely warm welcome on arrival. All the staff were so polite & attentive. I had the roast beef and my friend had the pork belly…… OMG!! Both meals were simply out of this world, Both meats simply melted in the mouth and the portion sizes were more than satisfactory given the price. It maybe a 2hr drive from where we live to get here, But it’s well worth the trip. Hands down the best pub roast experience, You won’t be disappointed! Thank You to all the staff for making today’s lunch experience so wonderful.

Fish & chips x 3. Well cooked but, seriously, it’s a bit mean to only give your customers 8 chips each. I don’t care if they are carefully weighed portions. We are hungry and want to feel full up when we leave. We did let them know our disappointment and they bought us out 2 extra chips each. This used to be our favourite pub. Our Narrowboat is moored at a local marina and we were so looking forward to our first trip out (due to high tides over the very rainy winter) to what was our favourite pub but what a terrible shame … “Cheap as chips” is a well known expression, so why be so stingy?!

My good friend and I went there for a fish and chip lunch today 21/2/24. The waitress was friendly and jovial , which I always like. The fish and chips came well presented, with mushy peas and tartar sauce. To be honest, after living in Brixham for 7 yrs , the home of fishing trawlers , I was just expecting the run of the mill fish covered in batter. Well, was I wrong, the batter was thin and nicely crispy, not oily at all, the fish was beautifully cooked, flakey and tasty. Just enough chunky chips to complement the meal. I fully recommend the red house for this , and several other great looking meals that went past us. Will return soon.

Had a great chat with the proprietor and the chef brought his doggie down to meet ours. We love the food here, my husband had 3 starters for his meal and raved about the cheese soufflé. Celebrated our Civil Partnership at The Red House yesterday and the whole experience was nothing short of perfect! The venue itself is a perfect country pub - thatched with a very homely atmosphere in the beautiful Berkshire countryside. We used the private dining room just off the main restaurant, which was absolutely ideal for our party of 10. The food was just amazing! We wanted our guests to choose their preferred dishes, rather than have have a one course fits all, which worked perfectly. The kitchen presented all the courses on time and piping hot and the comments from the guests were very complimentary. The service was second to none and we MUST reserve special praise for Maureen, who made sure our day was very special - Thank you Maureen! Recommend without reservation.

We visited here recently having eaten here countless times over the past few years, this time we wanted to try a Sunday lunch. Upon arrival we were absolutely horrified to discover that basically ‘Children are not welcome’ here on a Sunday. There is no Children’s menu in operation and when we enquired if they were able to make something off the regular Children’s menu as an exception the rude waiter said no - all that was possible was a half portion of an adult roast (which neither of my toddlers would eat). I asked for him to check this was definitely all that was possible as it seemed very inflexible ( especially as the place wasn’t even half full!) ; he asked the manager in front of us who abruptly shrugged and said no. The only suggestion being a ‘bowl of chips’. Dreadful. As we were there with other family members who were hungry we had to stay and eat their mediocre roast whilst my Children ate their greasy bowl of chips and then i had the joy of driving straight home and cooking them some proper lunch. This place has an extremely arrogant and complacent attitude to their customers, needless to say - we would never go back.

The small roast was plenty - picture doesn’t show the additional side of seasonal vegetables. And we loved that we were given a whole gravy boat of extra gravy, not just what was on the plate. The quality of both food and service has declined. The service in particular was quite poor as regards both drinks and meals. Drinks were slow in arriving or didn’t arrive at all. It is customary and good manners that you all start eating at the same time. This is difficult if the last meal brought to the table is almost ten minutes late with no apologies given. The quality of food in terms of presentation and content has declined noticeably. We won’t be returning.

We booked lunch here because the reviews are good and the location worked with family coming from different directions. Our overarching feeling is that we felt rushed and that the staff were abrupt. The food was good but it certainly didn’t feel as relaxing as other locations that we have visited. It was quite busy so maybe that is the reason?

Oh dear... A group of us, six to be prosice came for dinner last night. We were seated after 5 mins, given menus and water for the table, drinks were ordered pretty quickly and delivered. That's when it all went down hill. The two waiters pretty much ignored us, they were too busy cleaning a separate room. We had to ask for our order to be taken. One guest had to go to the bar and return a coke as it had a weird smell, which the bartendar agreed. Dirty dishwater! We sat waiting for our food. There was only one other table of six in the restaurant. After waiting 25mins we asked the bartender (waiters were busy still sorting the other room) to see how are food was doing. He bought the ticket to us and said there was a 30-40 min wait for food on a table our size..6 of us. The waiters were too busy to tell us this. When the food arrived one of the guest had ordered the vege tagine which contain grilled chicken! Again we had to grab the waiter to sort this. The other table of six also had to get up twice to find the waiters to clear the table and ask for pudding menus. Food was average and the waiters were well below average. Customer service needs addressing and training your waiters to be waiters would be good. The Menu Sounded good but was not executed We won't return much better pubs in the area.!

Helen hizo un gran trabajo alimentando a nuestro grupo de diecinueve campanilleros en poco tiempo entre visitar dos iglesias locales. Excelente servicio, comida y cerveza. No podría haber sido mejor.
