I think on the day we went the 4 young members of staff were having a bad day. When we arrived the only table available had dirty cups and plates on it. These remained on our table for our entire visit. Girls kept walking around from behind the counter to slam the front door whilst commenting loudly about having to do it. Chairs were flung and slammed under tables. Despite all this the coffee and cake were delicious.

The setting of this pub is really beautiful and my friend and I were really looking forward to eating there. I was surprised at how quiet it was for a Friday evening but thought maybe itâs because itâs January and people donât go out much . The fire had practically gone out and we had to ask the staff if they could get it going again as we were cold sitting at our table . The staff were very helpful and soon managed to start it up again .We decided to choose a few of the starters to share as we both wanted to try out a variety of the dishes from the menu. The menu is based around tapas and I have to say certainly not like any we have tasted before . The bread was over done and dry, The mushrooms were bland and badly presented. The chips were fine but I suppose you canât really get those wrong. We chose some sort of apple pie come tart as a dessert which was inedible as the cloves actually numbed our tongues. After only taking two bites we decided to leave the rest . To be honest the entire meal was shockingly bad . I understand the Royal Oak in Yattingdon is a sister restaurant. As we eat there regularly we both expected the food to be as good and were really looking forward to trying out their tapas menu. Truly the worst meal we have had in years and sadly the setting is not enough to make either of us want to go back there . It might be a good idea for the people running the pub to read the room , if you canât fill your pub on a Friday evening, maybe you need to rethink the menu . My advice would be to enjoy the setting and stick with ordering a bag of crisps that way you wonât be left with a bad taste in your mouth.

Itâs been years since I last went here and it is now fabulous. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas, a lovely ambiance and the weekday ÂŁ25 menu was fantastic. If you like Michelin star food (Quality over quantity) this is the place for you. If a massive plate of food is your thing, then this isnât the place for you. For us it was absolutely delicious, excellent service and good value for the quality of food we had. The 3 courses were enough for us. We had a great evening and will certainly be returning!

This is just a charming Pub with a wonderful menu. The food was excellent we dined two nights and each enjoyed a different item on the menu each night. The large glassed in addition and the venue out in the yard create great spaces regardless of the weather. ( although apparently we lucked out with great weather) I must say we had a wonderful time at the old Boot Inn. The hosts are warm and friendly. A very inviting place. We plan to come back again!

This pub is so warm and welcoming. The service is superb - no matter who happens to be behind the bar. The ladiesâ loo has fresh flowers, one if those little touches that makes it special. No, there is no food on offer but we know that and still enjoy walking there for a drink and walking home again afterwards. The village is lucky to have this well-run pub.

Didnât have time to shop and queue in M&S Food at Chieveley Services so grabbed a sausage roll just outside the entrance. Lovely pastry with plenty of tasty filling - will definitely make it one of my regular stops on the way to Southampton

Great breakfast; opening before the park at 8:30, so a civilised start to my working day some distance away. Traditional English breakfast with the food locally sourced - even the baked beans were home made! Good food served by nice people; many thanks.
