The Blackbird Cafe in West Berkshire

We were on a day's leisure walk from Aldermaston over to Pangbourne. The Blackbird cafe is an ideal stop that we had planned for brunch. Best flat white coffee and great food. Thanks.

This is a great local family run small cafe, very good selection of cakes and pastries, coffees are great. Breakfast and main meals are also served, their salads looked particularly nice. Several tables inside, and outside when warm weather permits on the grass. Nice rural location, the owners and staff provide a friendly service.

Mixed review ... We had 2 bacon sandwiches, bacon was very tasty, BUT it was under cooked 😕 Sourdough very nice, tea excellent. Staff friendly and helpful. Didn't have any cakes, but they looked nice. Nice atmosphere, but wish there was a way to have a quiet table, as the music was a bit intrusive

Stumbled upon this place after kids football - absolutely perfect. Everyone is super friendly and the food was fabulous. Great atmosphere and will definitely return

Friendly service, great food and coffee plus they are genuinely dog friendly. My little Yorkshire Terrier is anxious and got a bit scared so Steve made a little nest out of blankets that she settled down in perfectly happily 😊 They do an after-school club too which sounds brilliant.

After hearing good things about this little cafe I thought I'd give it a try. Oh how I wish i hadn't bothered !! Arriving there at 1.50pm I was told the kitchen was closed (the opening hours are 9 -3pm) The only thing available was some scraps of mediocre cake. Seeing as I'd made a 15 mile round trip I decided to at least buy something. A slice of cake and pot of tea for £7. Certainly not my best decision of the day.

We reserved a table as we guessed Friday morning would be busy and we were calling in with friends on a walk. The coffee was very good and can recommend the cakes (especially the ginger flapjack!). The staff were friendly and service efficient. Will definitely be back.

I came in for a take away of Tea, coffee and sausage rolls, the girls working didn’t add up the order correctly meaning I had to pay twice. The sausage roll took a long time to come out, while asking for it to be heated up. I watched them put it in the oven, after several minutes she took it out and put it in the microwave to be heated up - one of the girls use awful language to comment on what the other girl had done! Not very professional at all! The sausage roll when given to me was so called ‘hot’ it was not, and was cold, chewy, greasy and inedible! The other family and lady in there I’m sure would agree the language and service was slow and shoddy!

The cafe has a selection of freshly baked cakes, pastries, and light bites. It’s decorated in village farmhouse style and immaculately clean. They also have a selection of items for sale eg jams, honey abd gifts. The staff are very friendly and keen to help. There is free parking - always a bonus.

We come here quite often and it never disappoints. The coffee is very good, the cakes are amazing, the lunch menu is great and the staff are lovely.

Stopped off for a coffee and a slice of cake during a bike ride. The cake was delicious and looked amazing too. Lovely little place.

What an amazing bacon roll - just what we needed after the park run. Please don't change!! We will make the blackbird bacon roll a mainstay of our post park run routine.

A birthday treat from daughter Beckie who had discovered this lovely cafe recently. A delicious snack lunch followed by “happy birthday” being sung to me and a chocolate brownie with lighted candle, thank you to the lovely lasses who sang to me and looked after us.

Walked around Bucklebury and Stanford Dingley and had a very pleasant break here for tea - didn’t eat anything but full marks for our Earl Grey, pleasantly surprised that it was made via a teapot and tasted great! Would certainly stop here again and perhaps try something more substantial!

Went for lunch followed by coffee & cake with my family and it was such a lovely place, fully recommend. Homemade healthy lunch options with a very good selections of cake! I was lucky enough to have the biggest oreo & nuttella layer cake which was very tasty along with very good coffee and a friendly team in a lovely location😊

Fantastic coffee and bacon sandwich

Our monthly 'Old Boys Trek' started next to the Bladebone Pub. Fortunately for us the Blackbird cafe was open. So before our walk we decide for some refreshments. Staff were reall friendly and there was an amazing food selection. We did crowd the place out but other diners were really friendly and interested in why we were walking on such a foul day :-). Its a shame that we didn't make it back before closing time but our walk proved slightly challenging!!!

Cosy , friendly , welcoming! I enjoyed my coffee completely.

Paid £4.95 for a bacon sandwich which was not very good. The bacon was rock hard and although I like sour dough you do need plain old sliced bread. I ended up throwing it out.

Lovely little cafe with very friendly staff, good coffee and cakes. Note that It may not be the best venue for walkers as they have signs up about no muddy boots. They close around 3pm and I think they're not open on Sundays and Mondays.

Delicious lunch served here. Had a toasted bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese, served with salad and tortilla crisps. Had a jasmine china tea also. Great range of cakes. If you are vegetarian or vegan then this place would also be a good choice to eat at.

Lovely small cafe in the heart of Berkshire! A real treat for my husband and I after a hospital visit today. We had a delicious Thai style chicken & watermelon salad beautifully presented & perfect for this hot weather. We followed with Icespresso which was simply yummy & just enough. Lovely welcome & friendly staff a real treat.

Popped in with my son for a bite to eat, firstly amazing staff with such knowledge of their menu. I listed off my allergies and was immediately helped with what I could eat. My son was very happy with his fresh sausage rolls and rocky road. The cafe staff and customers are child and dog friendly...winner all round!

Stopped while out on bike ride. Had coffee and a flapjack. Very friendly service. Very popular at lunchtime on a Saturday. Well worth a visit for a quick snack and a good cup of coffee

I met with friends at the Blackbird Cafe before embarking on a walk around the local villages, so a much needed country escape. We enjoyed the homemade juices and delicious brunch, the brunch was delicious. The staff were friendly and the cafe felt clean and tidy. We took a coffee to go and some cakes for our walk, I wish we had taken more cakes away for the week as they were delicious. Thank you for a lovely time, and I will look forward to visiting again.

Had a lovely lunch with friends. Good choice of menu, the butternut squash with ginger was delicious and it was dairy free. Cakes looked fantastic, unfortunately I could not squeeze one in, but my friends did and they thoroughly enjoyed them. We will be back.

Popped in here for lunch with a friend. Good choices for a light lunch. Plenty of yummy cakes etc. to choose from, we were spoilt for choice, so will have to return to try some more!

What a little golden nugget of a find.The breakfast was just right , not to heavy not to light, just right for the day ahead. The cup of tea I had was one of the best I had for a long time at an establishment. The ladies were very welcoming and the service was excellent.

Enjoyed a delicious coffee with a pistachio and tahini bliss ball in this beautiful friendly cafe. The staff were knowledgeable and keen to help, and the atmosphere is relaxed. Great choice of lunch options and my mum and I had feta with peas and mint on sourdough which was really fresh and tasty. All the items on the bar are labelled if they are gluten free; refined sugar free etc and there are lots of healthy choices besides the home made cakes and pastries. I took a slice of salted caramel cake home for my husband who declared it the best he'd ever had!

Great little cafe, the atmosphere is great and they open at 8:30 during the week (apart from Monday) so perfect for straight after the school run. The staff are really helpful and friendly, the food and drink and delicious and they take cards! I'd definitely recommend it if you're passing as you can also get food and drinks to take away.

Un amigo y yo tuvimos un almuerzo encantador de tomates con queso mozzarella en vid tostada. Amablemente la parrilla el queso para mí, ya que no me gusta cocinar. Buena selección de té y café. Almuerzo menú limitado pero hacen deliciosos ingredientes frescos. Ambos tomamos nuestros maridos una porción de tarta de crema de limón (casa ese dia) y mi marido dieron la mayoría de!

El café ha sustituido a la antigua capilla de carnicerías en tienda Row. Con el Bladebone (IMHO) convirtiendo inasequible para llevar, este ofrece una adición bienvenida a la aldea. Se ha convertido en un lugar de visita con mi madre, donde atienden brillantemente para nuestras necesidades dietéticas (vegetariano y difícil sin gluten). Fabulosas ensaladas saludables con ingredientes peculiares y delicioso y tartas preciosas y dulces. Perfecto.

Hired the cafe for my husbands birthday celebration. Emma and team were superb,service with a smile, food fab, and what a fantastic birthday cake made especially by one of the staff. Would not hesitate to recommend for either a coffee,lunch or special event.

Pequeña, café selecto, con una decoración preciosa. Acogedor pero elegante. Deliciosos pasteles caseros. Una pequeña selección, pero no me decepcionó. Todos tuvimos la tarta casera de zanahoria. Cuando llegamos, estaba servido con una pequeña flor pansy en la parte superior. Mi hija lo describió como, 'cada porción de tarta es única. Estaba delicioso. La pantalla café blanco era rica y cremosa. Mi marido tenía una taza de té Darjeeling de hojas. Maravilloso sirve té de hojas sueltas. Había un menú adicional para comidas saladas. El servicio fue rápido y encantador. La atención al detalle que parece ser el espíritu aquí, como todo es hermoso mirar y igualmente sabrosa para saborear. Mejor que he experimentado los inodoros en un café; más como un hotel de lujo! Sin duda volveremos.

Agradable café para mí y los niños, pero nos sentimos bastante caro para lo que tenía... no estoy seguro de que volvería en una prisa. Tenía principalmente chocolate caliente y un pastel de chocolate caliente... pero apenas tibia. Me apetecía un brunch, pero sólo ofrecía...

I drove a 22 mile round trip from Reading just to try this place, and was not disappointed. I sampled the pistachio and almond cake which was great, and I bought an extra slice to go!

I took my mum who lives abroad here for lunch as a late Mother's Day treat. Food delicious even though we sneaker in at the end of 'lunch' they still served us and the soup and salad were excellent. On asking about the cakes etc on offer they were very knowledgable and we picked up some to take away as well. All of it was delicious. Highly recommend.

Today I enjoyed coffee and cake with one friend, then tea and salad for lunch with two more friends! Today's cakes included apple and almond, which was light and flavoursome. I took home the orange and almond cake for tea later - moist and moreish, yum yum! The chai latte was delicious, light and sweet. There's so much choice, I often take something home for later!

The Blackbird Cafe is a great coffee shop located in Chapel Row. It is one of the best coffee shops in West Berkshire. The smiling, friendly staff make you feel welcome. They have an excellent selection of cakes and make very good coffee. We have visited many times. The cafe has lovely wooden counters and is very comfortable.

Superb coffee and great selection of home made food. The staff are friendly and go beyond their duty to make you feel welcome. Child friendly inside and dog friendly outside. A must to stop at if you are in the area.

My mother introduced me to this wonderful cafe, I'm almost certain she spends half her time there! I come here often with friends when we can't be bothered to cook a breakfast at home and it is absolutely scrumptious, my particular favourite is the smoked salmon and scrambled egg!(great hangover cure) The unruffled persona it gives off is very pleasant, and the staff are great! Love the variety of homemade cakes especially the gluten free ones, though I'm not a celiac. Great setup there!

This is a lovely place to sit and have a break from the dog walk, or the cycle ride, or the vacuuming in my case ! Excellent cakes with a wide selection along with different teas and lovely coffee (I find the coffee quite strong but that's to my taste). It can be a bit of a squeeze to find a table when all the young mums arrive after school drop off and you certainly couldn't talk about anything confidential with the tables close together but equally you can get chatting to people on other tables and this makes it very sociable.I always get there before my friends so I can have a cake before they arrive and then share another with them !

This is a lovely, independent cafe. The staff are friendly, the place is welcoming, the coffee is excellent. They might want to check the freshness of the cakes on offer a little more often, especially when it is hot! They are perfectly understanding though if you send something back if it is past its sell by date as it were.

I've visited this cafe three times and it has always delighted me. In the heart of the Berkshire countryside by a common, the food is healthy, well presented and the cakes are delicious! I've had great lattes too, along with freshly made granola to take home for breakfast. Best cake: the brownies, although it's a tough choice as all the cakes I've tried have been excellent.
