We popped in last Sunday for their soft opening. Had drinks during the day, were we spoke to staff and new management Adel throughout the day, who were all so friendly and lovely. We stayed for dinner later that evening, the service was great and the steak was incredible along with the special sauce!! The portions were also huge!

Visited for breakfast.. 5 people. Nice interior and newly refurbished. Service was ok. Food was good except 3 of us had dishes with poached eggs, and none had runny yolks. If the breakfast menu has lots of poached egg dishes, the chef needs to learn to poach an egg properly.

I've been working in the area for several weeks and have eaten he re around 10 times. There is always a welcome at the bar, often by the landlord I'm person. Menu is a good selection of pub classics and there are regular promotions like 2 mains for £15 or curry night etc. Food is well sourced and we'll prepared with good presentation without being pretentious. Fullers ales are on draft and a good wine and spirits selection is also on offer. Thoroughly recommend.

There has been a change of ownership at the Queen's Head and the previous owners were a hard act to follow. After a few initial problems there is now a permanent chef and as a result the food has improved. We had a family Sunday lunch and the choice was good and the food preparation was excellent. Great value for money. We have also lunched there, and the same applies. Service was very good Now do specialities every weekday.

We enjoy the Queen’s Head a lot, nice n comfy and an friendly place for a quick drink (or 2). We used to eat there quite regularly too but not so sure we will be anymore. Not sure if there has been a change in management but menu is very different & much worse than we’ve seen previously. It’s almost fast-food ish now with no real culinary skills. A couple of friends that would regularly join us are vegetarian & vegan - used to be so well catered for & that was why it seemed to get so popular on Fri/Sat nights. Sadly hardly anything to cater for those needs anymore. Shame. Good for a drink but we’ll be eating elsewhere from now on.

As said the wait was well worth it five planned trips to dine at the queens head but always something came up and had to cancel. Finally we experienced the cuisine The service is first class the decoration and Ambience is first class Only one point to mention is the toilets need attention which the staff agreed this is being performed within the next month The choices are all beyond the normal menu someone has put a lot of time and thought into choices, We had a job to make a decision everything was so tempting finally we decided on the lasagne home made, plus a vegetarian version both had a twang in the taste delicious The other choice was the home made pie perfect choice. Nice size portions to everything was brilliant. The deserts were a winner for us having tried the ice cream served here some time ago it was a sundae and another meal was a rhubarb pie with custard very very good choice The atmosphere is lovely here and location perfect

What a wonderful pub that's a bit off the beaten track but well worth seeking out. Had a fantastic meal with my girlfriend who is vegetarian and her daughter who is vegan. Very refreshing to see a pub that has a great choice and caters for vegetarians and vegans as well as meat eaters. Many establishments only have one or two choices and is usually a horrible dry meal like nut roast! Thankfully the Queens Head is way abive that level. Real ale on tap and a very warm welcome from the staff there. What more could you ask? Absolutely lovely. Hope to get back again sometime.

I'm spending more time in my homelands visiting my aging mother, so am revisiting old haunts of my youth. The Queens Head has changed beyond recognition. Mum and I were looking for a pub for lunch open on Mondays (strangely rare in these parts) and decided to give the Queens Head a go. That day Mum had Veggie sausages and mash, I had a veggie sausage bap. We decided to use the pub for a family gathering as we were impressed with the food and service. Today 8 of us descended on the pub. A real bonus was that they were happy to let me bring my dogs in. Service was prompt and accurate (a slight faux pas on my part for failing to ask for the veggie chilli and ending up with a meat one, swiftly rectified) and the food was fresh and tasty. The real bonus was finding home made orange ice cream on the dessert menu. It was wonderful and so unusual. The bill came in at around £13 a head including soft drinks and dessert. Great value on the doorstep. We'll be back!

Made a booking for Sunday lunch and we were told there would be a large table also there. Met by a very pleasant barmaid but the setup is a bit strange, we waited over 7 minutes at the bar to confirm our reservation and were then told we could pick any table. We then had to go back to the bar to place our order (and again join the back of the drinks queue) which is a bit frustrating when you have a lunch reservation. We were told there might be a bit of a delay due to a large table of 13, but we did notice there was this group only and loads of free tables. After we arrived, a man and his daughter sat at a table next to us. We were disappointed it took an hour for food. We appreciated being told there might be some delay, but it makes us wonder what it would have been like if the place was busy, as it was still fairly empty aside from the large group. The man and his daughter complained and received a free drink. The roast was good, beautifully presented and I reasonably priced. I think they just need to work on being more efficient, as it's a hassle having to keep queuing up each time at the bar and also waiting an hour for a roast on a Sunday. We will definitely re-visit thou and hope to have slightly less of a wait!

A Walkin, no booking, we we're made very welcome, the young lady barmaid was very pleasant and helpful, we were shown a menu we both opted for roasts, the roasts on offer today we're beef or duck, I commented that duck was unusual and was told that the chef liked to have different meats on offer like duck or Goat or any meat locally produced very impressive maybe next time I go for goat as never tried goat before. Our meals came out perfect the Yorkshire pudding was excellent crispy and light the vegetables today we're kale, carrots and runner beans, all fresh lovely. Our beef was perfectly cooked. Served with a gravey boat. The whole meal was great and there was plenty off it no room for a puddings just one very small criticism the strings on the fresh runner beans could've been removed apart from that perfect. Finally this pub seems to have turned the corner - it has been through a lot with previous management failing even the basics. Now it is tidy, welcoming, clean. Clear changes to the kitchen have produced results. Food has been good on recent visits (chocolate mousse and chicken liver pate particularly enjoyable). A new menu looks keenly priced and locals are slowly but steadily returning. The toilets remain a little tired (same as the ones in the local Bull and Boot do) but generally it has improved massively. We were so impressed last year but our visit as a large group recently left a lot to be desired. The restaurant has been changed into a games room, one window was stuck together with duct tape as draft excluder and the menu was paninis and sandwiches only at lunchtime - great shame. The food was good, however the 'feel' of the pub has changed from smart eaterie with an excellent menu to run-of-the-mill blokes' pub. We'll be finding somewhere else to go when we're in the area next year no doubt.

We have parked near this pub several times, it's at the start of a fantastic walk through Bradfield and along the River Pang - the walk is highly recommended (unlike the pub). Some friends joined us for the walk on Saturday morning and as we were due back to the start point (and therefore the pub) at about 12.30pm we thought it would be nice to pop in for a couple of drinks and some lunch. How wrong we were. There is only one word to describe this pub - FILTHY. We were clearly the first customers of the day and the place was deserted....always ominous for a lovely looking pub in a gorgeous village! There were bits of food, dust and hair on the floor and some of the chairs. The table displaying the menus had a whole pile of crud under it, as if someone had actually swept up at some point but then lost interest and pushed the pile under the table. The menus themselves were crumpled sheets of A4 complete with drink rings, greasy food marks and even some crusty, dried-on rice! I have no problem at all with menus simply being printed on plain paper, but there's no excuse for not printing a few new copies when they start to look that bad!We ordered two pints of ale, a sparkling water and an orange juice and lemonade. We all commented on how empty the fridges were but it's possible that they weren't working as the sparkling water was retrieved from the back somewhere. Before ordering the food we all needed to use the facilities, and this is where things got really bad. The carpet at the end of the bar, leading to the toilets, hadn't been vacuumed in weeks, it was truly filthy. The ladies loos were not clean, had no toilet roll and the bins in the cubicles were overflowing (revolting at the best of times but certainly enough to put you off your lunch). The cubicle in the gents didn't lock and this became a cause of embarrassment for one of our party and a gentleman who came in looking for some toilet roll for his wife.We quickly settled our tab and departed, leaving two unfinished drinks behind us. What's so sad and frustrating is that it really wouldn't take much to make this pub great! All it needs is a really good clean, a few nice touches like hanging baskets and a bit of energy and enthusiasm from the staff/management.I have to say that the barman who served us was perfectly pleasant and polite, it's just a shame that there didn't appear to be a manager of any sort to motivate him to do something more productive than socialise with two friends at the bar.We headed over to The Volunteer in Theale instead and had a great lunch!

Love the idea of the tapas lunch...have been a couple of times over the last few months . First occasion was yummy - lots of choice and generous helpings. But second time we went - early in week...and half of menu board had finished. So had a full normal menu lunch ...so were a little disappointed. But tasty.

We arrived as a group of 29 unexpectedly midweek (group leader had forgotten to pre-book). The pub obviously only has skeleton staff at the start of opening hours but the chef got on and served us all drinks by which time other staff members arrived and started taking food orders. Two dishes were off the menu and one had two portions left. However, I've not marked the review down for this as the quality of what remained on the menu was outstanding. On our table we ordered the steak pie, some tapas-style small dishes, fish and chips and a panini. My steak pie was, quite frankly, the best I have ever had outside of the house. Juicy steak and home-made pastry and chips. Superb. All served without flapping, despite the large size of our group and our limited time for lunch. Well done.

Family gathering for Sunday lunch. For a country pub in a small village there was a good choice on menu something for all tastes. Food and presentation was excellent. Small criticism was having to ask twice for things like a jug of water and the wine list (not all on list available), while staff standing talking to each other, obviously having forgotten. But overall a relaxed and an enjoyable afternoon and would definitely come back again!

I went here tonight with my wife as we haven't been here before. From the outside it doesn't seem as big as it is on the inside. There is plenty of space even at the busiest times and as in its descriptions there is a wood burning fire to keep you warm. The decor is pleasant, warm and cosy. And the bathrooms (mens) was well maintained and colourful. The food was lovely and was quite quick but the taste was the best bit. There is a good variety of food, as I had a burger with my wife having a curry. The service was good and very polite. I would come to this pub again and I would recommend this pub to my friends and family. There was few people in, so there wasn't an atmosphere but that's not the pubs fault

Been to this pub twice, once on a Saturday and tonight, this is the first time I've ever wrote a review for anything but I was really impressed with the excellent food and service. Had fresh fish and chips the first time "perfect" and tonight had the Thai green curry, cooked completely from fresh, even tasted like the coconut milk was from the actual nut ! I can't believe people are not queueing out the door ! I'm a supplier of fresh fruit and veg to top quality restaurants in the Berkshire area and have eaten in a lot of top places, this pubs food is second to none ! Just want to say I do not supply this pub with their produce but will say it is very good quality I'd have to say one of the best pubs I've eaten in for a while

Had a brilliant Birthday meal with the Mrs. Tried the Queens Head for the first time since the new owners took over in Dec 2012. Tried the Tapas style light bites they serve and must say very good value for money. We had 3 Lightbites and a bottle of House red for £22.50!Pork Belly is amazing and cooked to perfection! Staff were lovely and extremely welcoming.Highly recommend a visit!

We had our wedding reception at the Old Boot on the 7th September and it's hard to put into words how amazing the team were in making it such a memorable day/evening. Mel and Michael were amazing in the run up to the event. Totally calm and collected in planning. Things I was worrying about where instantly addressed and my slightly frantic Bridal brain was put at easy at every turn. The Tepees and garden looked incredible! ALL The staff were charming from start to finish. The food was EPIC...some of the best I've ever tasted at a wedding, all the while feeling very relaxed and unstuffy. EVERY guest has commented since on the amazing venue so I would strongly advise anyone looking for somewhere in the area to go try it out. Brilliant!

Lovely sunny garden with plenty of seating and shade. Excellent varied menu from which I chose the smoked salmon and then a ribeye steak. My partner had pigeon and then monk fish all of which arrived piping hot and was very tasty - we cleared our plates! Definitely would recommend this pub both for a drink and for food. The garden is lovely, they are dog friendly and the interior has had a stylish makeover which makes sitting inside a pleasure

Thank you to Donna and the team behind the scenes for a warm welcome and great breakfasts all round. 30 breakfasts served with ease, all on the beautiful banks of the Thames, overlooking the field of horses, and Mapledurham house.🏃🏃♀️🏃♂️
