The Old Mill in West Berkshire

From the day we walked into the Old Mill we instantly fell in love with the venue,We were really lucky to have beautiful weather which meant the kids could really enjoy the grounds, the guests also loved the patio area for welcome drinks.The venue has been recently renovated and really brings the outside in! Lauren was absolutely incredible and made sure everything was perfect for our special day, we could not have done it without her!

I photographed a wedding at this stunning venue in February. I arrived early to set up and to meet the team. They welcomed me and spent the time to show me around, discuss the timings and more. Throughout the day I observed the team working super hard to make the wedding day as flawless as possible and I could see that every single team member enjoyed doing their jobs. The team at The Old Mill hosted our charity, Prior's Court Foundation for our 1st ever Carols for Complex Autism concert in December 2023 and the team there, especially Chris, were fantastic. They went above and beyond to help us bring our event vision to life, both in the planning stages and on the night itself. Decorations from the Wed Shed made the space look enchanting, and took it to a whole new level! We would highly recommend The Old Mill as an incredible venue with a friendly, professional and quality feel - thank you so much!

My partner and I got married at the old mill in October, and we could not have been happier with the way things went, all the staff were lovely and accommodating and so friendly! the venue was gorgeous and it was such a beautiful setting, being able to have our official photos taken in a private setting by the river was wonderful! we had kids at our wedding so set the conservatory up as a 'play room' with toys, and a couple of tables for those who wanted a break from the disco, leaving the main room looking beautiful for our wedding breakfast. Everyone had a blast and beauty of the venue is something that comes up the most! We cannot thank the team enough and if you are looking for a wedding venue make sure you book a visit here as it doesn't disappoint!

We got married at the Old Mill in June and it was the most perfect day. The Mill had just had a refurb and we had the ceremony out on the patio followed by a drinks reception. It was a beautiful setting and when the fairy lights came on as the sun went down, it was so romantic. The venue has so many picturesque spots, great for photos either down by the river or along the tree line. The Wed Shed, run by Evie at the Mill decorated the venue to perfection and having them linked to the Mill made everything so much easier. Chris ensured the running of the day went so smoothly and everything went off without a hitch. All the staff are so friendly and accommodating and they were always on hand if we needed anything or to answer our emails as the big day got closer. It really was the best day of our life and we could not have picked a better venue.

Such a fantastic venue! From the moment we first visited The Old Mill to the date of our wedding the entire team were amazingly helpful. Chris, Lauren and the team made sure our day went without a hitch, despite the weather! ;) Nothing was too much trouble and no ask could not be accommodated! The relaxed nature of the venue allows itself to any style of wedding, and the grounds and location make for a fantastic backdrop. We had an amazing day... one we will never forget!

In April 2023 we tied the knot at the Old Mill and the venue, atmosphere and day far exceeded our expectations and those of our guests. The staff were caring, considerate and helpful from start to finish. They went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and make our dream wedding a reality.

Such a beautiful venue with such lovely staff! We were so well looked after from the moment we had our first show around to even after our special day! The venue is stunning and did a lot of the work for us but the team at The Old Mill made the whole experience for us! They were so accommodating and welcoming from the beginning, even our guests commented on how friendly the staff were! I would highly recommend this venue and can't speak highly enough of the staff, Lauren & Chris specifically! We wish we could do it all again! We held our Wedding at The Old Mill, and we cannot imagine a venue which could have fit our wedding any better, The Venue is Beautiful and perfect. We were lucky enough to have booked our wedding for just when the outdoor patio was refurbished, and we held our ceremony out there. What a wedding venue! This is by far one of my local favourites. The Old Mill is set in such a peaceful location and with it's exclusive use each wedding feels completely nestled away. There are so many beautiful settings surrounded by nature, it is a photographer's dream! I also couldn't rate the staff more highly, they are so friendly and approachable and really looked after me.

Went to a work colleagues wedding reception. Beautiful setting, drinks reasonably priced only downside was the toilets being upstairs, difficult for people with mobility problems.

We got married here at the start of June this year, and it was incredible. The site is beautiful with so much plant life and running water. It is truly a stunning setting. The owners and staff were absolutely wonderful. Every one of them was helpful and made the day special for us. But none more so than Chris, who helped manage the day, and always put a smile on our face. They are dog friendly, so our little mini-sasuage dog was able to be our ring barer 🥰 this was super important for us, and most places which said they were dog friendly we visited only let dogs in their outside space, where as we could have him inside the stable room for the ceremony. The in-house DJ (I've forgotten his name 🙈) was brilliant. Can't say that we, or anyone else who we have spoken to, has had such a great wedding DJ! We went with Fosters Catering, one of the Old Mills recommended suppliers, and I would recommend them wholeheartedly as well. We had just less than 70 people in the day, and another 30ish in the evening, and it felt like a good number for the space that they have available. Over 100 people, and I think you would struggle with this venue. The venue doesn't provide accommodation, which made planning a little harder, but there were enough hotel rooms within a 5 minute drive/taxi that this wasn't a problem for us. Overall, we had the best day of our lives and I cannot sing their praises enough!

We honestly felt we couldn't fault them on the day. The staff were amazing and helped add to the fun of the wedding. However (all future ideas of returning for other celebrations have now stopped due to lack of trust)... Something to be aware of; after we paid our deposit and payments were agreed, they did try and sneak in an additional payment without telling us, it was very clearly not included before (I know this because I checked specifically). When I did mention this, they agreed to leave the payment on this occassion and we respectfully stuck to our promises in order to ease their minds that it was the right decision. Fast-forward to a few weeks after our wedding and I am told that they will not be giving us our £250 deposit due to an agreement made with the catering company on the day of the wedding, which my husband and I had no idea of (this should not have been done by either side as I had already put in writing that the kitchen should not be used). The catering company are saying that the venue isn't being truthful and in addition, the venue offered up space for ease, and the venue is saying that the catering company were using things they shouldn't have used. In all honesty, I feel like I'm trying to manage a disagreement between children, and whilst all of this is going on, it is our money being withheld because of an agreement made without our consent. This was raised and the owners had said that because they waivered the additonal charge (that they had added in after agreed prices) and the £85 cake cutting fee (not asked to do, but was done as a goodwill gesture) that this was the fairest conclusion they could come to. Now, after spending around 6k or more, (nevermind the money they took in on the day,) I believe this is just greedy!£250 is a lot of money to us and whatever it is that has happened has nothing to do with us. Please be wary of "good will gestures" as this may bite you in the butt after! A shame to end our experience in this way.

Lovely food. Best in Sandhurst. Choice of indoor and outdoor seating. Always good for a decent dry up.

We were the wedding DJs at The Old Mill this weekend. The location in the countryside is wonderful and the facilities are all beautiful. We were completely blown away by the professionalism and thoughtfulness we received from all staff. Chris and his team were brilliant and ensured the day ran so smoothly - nothing was too much trouble. We loved playing here and look forward to coming back soon!

We held our wedding celebration party at the Old Mill in April 2023, and in summary it was fantastic. Chris and Lauren, as well as the rest of the team, looked after us incredibly well - both on the evening itself but also through planning etc. in advance. So many amazing spots for photos, don't forget to go behind the back of the venue for some epic sunset photos! The Old Mill hosted our birthday party and they were marvellous. The venue is really beautiful both outdoors and in. The service was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend them.

Wedding arrangements all went well

We were looking to renew our wedding vows here but sadly they clearly didn't want to offer us anything.We arranged a viewing via their website and then when we arrived they were unaware we were meant to be coming?Luckily somebody else showed us around the venue.We were then told they would send over all the info for us and we never heard back.Very disappointed.

Great "event" location. Sadly, I was at a funeral, but the location, food and service were excellent. We'll worth considering, if you have an important event to organise, and you want a memorable location.

Beautiful venue for a wedding. Faultless!

We got married at the Old Mill last weekend and it could not have been a more perfect day. If the weather is nice this venue works perfectly for an outdoorsy day, we had lawn games and the band played outside which was just wonderful, but we always had the back up options of multiple indoor spaces if it had been raining. The grounds are just beautiful and so well maintained, all our guests commented on how lovely it was. The venue are extremely flexible which is exactly what we were looking for as we wanted to use our own caterers and mix of suppliers to make the whole wedding very catered to us. Evie and the team are also there to help with planning as much as you need and have a big range of hire items from the Wed Shed. Chris and Lauren were simply fabulous on the day, they were there as much as we needed them and I can't thank them enough for helping make our dream wedding run so smoothly. The Old Mill will forever have a place in our hearts, it was the best day of our lives.

Wow this place is just stunning, views are lovely, it's really private venue. Food was amazing and staff were really friendly. We attended a friend's wedding and I would highly recommend, it really was well maintain and beautiful.

Absolutely beautiful place and amazing typical mill streams/river and medows. Very welcoming staff. The only downside is they don't serve food! But easily overlooked because of it's beauty.

Lovely venue friends wedding reception there

Visited as a venu for funeral reception. This was indoor as the temperature was cold outside. Has plenty of space and reasonable car parking though more spaces would be better. Walking from car park could be difficult for women with heals as car park is pebbles which ruin the heals. Food was middle of the road, rather boring and forgettable. The gluten free vegeterian option was terrible and inedible. Do not book if this is a requirement. Hence 3 stars. Coffee was weak and luke warm. Bar was as expected. Staff were ok, but young and did not have the experience to run services smoothly. Ok if you dont want too much out of the place for hosting an indoor event. Probably better in the summer when the location near a river with lawns makes this more attractive for large-scale gatherings.

We had our wedding at the Old Mill. Evie was really helpful in the lead up, and Lauren and the staff did a sterling job on the day. The service they provided was fantastic - would really recommend!

Love the authentic charm of The Old Mill

Held our 10 year wedding anniversary party here Friday evening. Staff were very helpful, very easy to work with unlike some other venues used in past. Nothing was too much effort for them. Surrounding was beautiful, space was beautiful, had bouncy castle & tiki lamps in field, great DJ set in the conservatory & catering in main hall. Wonderful venue, never even got into wedding chapel!

An amazing vintage place to get married

My daughter and partner got married here. The venue was superb. It was November and fortunately, it didn't rain or snow although it was cold outside. I found the staff were very nice and helpful. The surroundings are beautiful and the interior is well laid out for a wedding. The bar is in a separate room. The food was delicious. I can't praise the place highly enough.

I have always loved this venue for its beautiful setting and available rooms for a wedding and was excited to be attending last Saturday . Unfortunately the weather was horrendous with very heavy rain all afternoon and evening which of course is out of everyone's control . The ceremony was held in the Stable room which is lovely and intimate for a small wedding , however the registrars were late ( I am presuming due to weather conditions or other commitments ) . This meant that the bridegroom had not been interviewed for legal purposes before the bride arrived . There appeared to be very little support from the owner who suggested the bride sit in the car for twenty minutes , we decided she should wait in the conservatory instead ! . Inside the conservatory there were leaks so the bridal party had to avoid getting their attire wet in there too . The service was beautiful and registrar excellent . Unfortunately we could barely hear the music as the CD player was too low , some of the guests questioned whether any music had been played following the ceremony ! The reception was held in the conservatory which was cold throughout the proceedings , many complained about the poor heating . We had to help ourselves to the welcome drinks of gin and tonics , the father of the bride opening all f the tonic bottles , as there was only one member of bar staff at the bar which was in another room , this was apparently due to there only being 30 of us for the wedding breakfast ! During the evening the bar staff were excellent and helpful despite frequent power failures apparently due to the heavy rain . We did not feel it was safe to use the toilets located upstairs due to the area being lit by candlelight so the majority used the disabled facilities downstairs . We had a wonderful day as we made it so. There was no evidence of the wedding coordinator or master of ceremonies , I'm not sure if this was an optional extra. I have had lots of feedback since and the main complaint is about the low temperature when all guests sat in their warmest clothing throughout the wedding breakfast . This is a beautiful setting but in our opinion it requires upgrading and currently is not suitable for a winter wedding .

Amazing place to get married from the lovely setting to the excellent food and friendly efficient staff. Nicky (wedding co-ordinator) was very helpful with all the arrangements and could not be faulted with her attention. Food first class and very good value for money.

Beautiful venue in fantastic gardens

Recently attended here for a wedding which in itself was very nice. Lovely location, nice grounds and lots of character. However, the staff were disappointing. They were unhelpful, looked bored, moped around like they didn’t want to be there and were pretty much useless. So disappointing.

Attended a wedding here, it was lovely. Lovely grounds for photos, plus you have the whole place to yourselves, so no miserable locals giving evils to everyone in "their" pub!

Beautiful venue on the banks of the Kennet. A very well known barbel and chub fishery. Very well kept with friendly staff.

My partner and I went for the Valentine’s meal. It was one of the best meals we have had and for a great price as well. The food was absolutely amazing and the service was great too. We were both so full up after - definitely money well spent. The venue is lovely as well.

Visited for a family gathering after a funeral. A very beautiful setting with lots of character. The glass viewing panels are a great idea, so you can see part of the original water wheel and the river following under the building. The drink selection was good. Very spacious with a nice conservatory and bar area. The food served was very good. Can see why this is used as a wedding venue.

Professional service and facilities within beautiful grounds

i would leave no stars if it was possible, I had my wedding booked here, such poor service, no contact from them after repeated emails and phone calls forced up to find another venue, they then refused to pay us our money back, they really did make the planning of what is meant to be the happiest day of your life a complete nightmare

We celebrated our daughter's wedding here in September and it worked really well for us from the beginning of the planning until the lovely day itself. The wedding coordinator, Nicky, made sure my daughter and son-in-law were able to make the choices that suited them for their special day. They had a wide choice of possibilities for the food and drink and they weren't pigeon holed into a very limited selection, as is often the case, so they had the simple but delicious hot buffet that they had wanted for the reception and a really nice varied buffet in the evening. Nicky gave them lots of helpful advice, was very patient and always there to bring all the arrangements together. She was there from the beginning to ensure it all went well on the day, as was Robin, the charming owner, who even helped with the button-holes! Also there to greet us was Colin the Master of Ceremonies, who was so nice and ensured the whole day ran smoothly, coping very well with any idiosyncrasies of some of our more eccentric relatives and ensuring the whole day fell into place without us having to worry about anything. He was very kind to my elderly relatives, as was Robin. The venue is beautiful and the couple were able to use the rooms as they wanted with the actual ceremony in the conservatory, which was charming. The grounds are stunning and as we were fortunate enough to have good weather we were able to use them extensively, but it would certainly have worked well with everything inside in wet weather. The dining room for the reception was so pretty and worked really well for quite a large wedding as it did for the evening disco. We were also able to use the conservatory at this stage, or the bar, garden or a pretty little sitting area upstairs, my daughter even had her own little room to retreat to if necessary. All in all this is a lovely venue, very pretty and characterful with stunning grounds right on the river, and with very efficient and friendly staff. We couldn't have been happier that the venue and the lovely people who work there made this very special day one we will always remember with pleasure.

A very nice place with a lot of character. Flat access to building but carpark is gravel. Disabled spaces are limited but are tarmac.

Went to my friends wedding and this is a great venue. They had a BBQ and there was a great selection and lots of food. Bar was well stocked and wasn’t badly priced.
