Lovely sunny garden with plenty of seating and shade. Excellent varied menu from which I chose the smoked salmon and then a ribeye steak. My partner had pigeon and then monk fish all of which arrived piping hot and was very tasty - we cleared our plates! Definitely would recommend this pub both for a drink and for food. The garden is lovely, they are dog friendly and the interior has had a stylish makeover which makes sitting inside a pleasure

The pub and restaurant reopened to outside dinners and drinks in there lovery garden. My wife and two friends visited on Sunday and enjoyed a great lunch of roast belly pork and fish pie. Both dishes were excellent. The beer which is brewed on there premises as they have an on site small brewery was very good and enjoyed on a warm day. Even eating outside the meals arrived very hot and well served. I can recommend the white hart for good food, good beer and a very good welcome.

Three of us visited The White Hart at the weekend for a pre-Christmas meal. The pub enjoys a beautiful rural location, though very convenient for nearby trunk roads. We were made very welcome, and the service throughout was friendly though not intrusive. We had pre-ordered our meals from their "December Celebration" menu, and all of the dishes were superb. My partner had a gravadlax starter followed by the most perfect hake in a saffron chowder, I had a pigeon breast starter and for main, a very flavoursome and succulent venison haunch. The chef was very accommodating of my teenage daughter's current dietary preferences and prepared a non-menu chicken dish specially for her. All three of us had the chocolate dessert - very rich and indulgent, and the perfect way to finish the meal. It's a refreshing change to have properly cooked food when so many places rely on pre-packed dishes. The pub itself has a welcoming atmosphere, a choice of comfortable seating areas and was fully covid-ready. We will definitely be returning and would fully recommend The White Hart. One last thing to mention is that they brew their own real ale on site - I tried two of the three on offer and both were excellent.

I visited the White hart with my wife last Friday and again enjoyed an excellent meal, friendly and welcoming service and good home brewed beer. We have visited the White Hart before and on every occasion the food and service has been excellent. it is nice to find somewhere where it is always good. We both had steak, which was the best i have had in a long time. The pub itself has a welcoming atmosphere, a choice of comfortable seating areas and was fully covid-ready. We would fully recommend The White Hart. All pubs are going though hard times and if we all want to be able to enjoy going out lets support the White Hart so that we may continue to go there in the future. We will be returning very soon for another evening of good food and hospitality.

We live in the local area and heard various rumours about poor service and food, however on the way home we saw it was open so decided to call in for a drink. The staff were extremely friendly and there was a lovely atmosphere. I was given samples of a couple of the beers they brew on site, which I have to say are fantastic. Based on this visit we booked a table for an evening meal. Again we were greeted by friendly and attentive staff. The food was excellent and served in a warm atmosphere. I would highly recommend this establishment and will certainly be visiting again. I really hope they can maintain the high standards of quality they have set themselves, especially considering the difficult circumstances we find ourselves in. Thank you!

Myself and my wife spend a lovery evening on Thursday having dinner at the white hart, i had the soup and my wife had salmon starters. Both excellent. we then had the haddock ,which was absolutely fantastic. We also heard other guests there saying how good the fish was. The whole evening was made by the welcome and the service we got. There new onsite brewed Porter beer was also very good. It was all very COVID safe too . When we asked how a part of the meal was cooked the chef came out and explained was was brilliant. We have booked ageing to go back in a few weeks time.

We have spent a wonderful afternoon sat in the beautiful comfortable garden at the White Hart. We were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed relaxing whilst our children big and small made the most of the space to runaround between courses! The food was superb, truly one of a kind creative (and delicious!) starters and desserts and the best chips I’ve ever eaten! The friendly staff were attentive and helpful, nothing was too much trouble despite having had a busy service. We’ve been here before and loved it, felt sad it was closing and then thrilled to discover it going strong again today. We will be back! Thanks for having us - Kaylee loved the cushions and the pink ice cream and the games of tag!

My wife and i had a lovely eve dinner here. We enjoyed the food which was of a very good standard. The pub was busy as it was part of the eat out to help out scheme however the service was excellent. You were made very welcome by Stella and her team. It was nice to be in a place where you could relax, have good food and good service along with a smile. It was all washed down with a fine wine for my wife and a couple of pints of there own brewed beer, which they brew on the premises. I do hope the pub continues to have this support after the 'eat out to help' out scheme finishes as it deserves it as it offers good food, excellent service and a benefit to the local people. They offer a discount reward scheme which after a couple of visits you get money of your bill.....what more could you ask for.

Following a visit the previous week in which we had a drink and a light snack in the lovely garden we booked Sunday lunch for the following week as we felt so relaxed and enjoyed the warm welcome from Stella and team. We arrived to another warm welcome from Stella & Co and were promptly introduced us to the new manager and mentioned there was a new chef too, both had started in last few days. We ordered the roast beef which was excellent, the best we had for a long time and far superior to other pubs in the Newbury area. The desserts were equally delicious. Throughout our stay the team were very attentive, looking forward to returning soon with friends.Highly recommended

We wanted to try the White Hart as we knew it has reopened. We very much enjoyed the relaxed tables in the garden with cozy cushions.Despite being an overcast day it was very warm in the mature garden with lots of space. There is a new manager and chef and ordering meals and drinks was easy due to attentive staff. We appreciated the choice of menu, but as it was Sunday decided to opt for one of the roasts on offer. The food was both very well cooked and looked great. Yorkshire pudding, beef, as well as an array of different veg filled the plate and also served as a side dish. They even served an extra gravy boat which I always appreciate. As well as a very nice wine and local beer we had a chocolate fondant with a lively gooey middle. Will definitely return again.

My only 'complaint' and it is my own viewpoint - is that I find the decor a bit austere. Not my idea of a cosy pub in spite of the fire. However the food more than made up for it and the wine prices were realistic!! A friend and I were visiting the Dogs Trust and decided to stop for a late lunch at The White Hart. What a brilliant find.We had a couple dogs with us so sat in the garden. I went in to get some drinks and a menu. There was a dog station with gravy bones and water available. We were waited on for our order and even to refill our drinks. Such a rarity these days especially when sat outside. I chose the nut roast and my friend had the bacon burger. Both meals were fabulous. My nut roast was the best ever and the veg was cooked to perfection with excellent presentation. The pub itself is a lovely building with nooks and crannies to explore and sit in. The toilets were spotless and there was paper towels to dry your hands. Those electric machines are dreadful and put more germs on your hands than you washed off so top marks for that. The staff were so friendly and 'human' I did not feel that their attitude was false in any way, in fact I felt like a friend/regular it's just a shame I live 25miles away. Top marks all round I shall hopefully be back.

We were looking for a place to stay close to the Highclere Castle where the daughters had booked a Tour and Champayne Picnic for my wife's Birthday, the White Hart Inn was advertising a Weekend Special (Saviour Pennies and a Bottle of Bubbles), so I booked to stay 10th and 11th August, on arrival we were shown our room which at first glance appeared to be very nice, we unloaded the car and I returned to the reception to enquire about the weekend special, to which the manager replied "we don't do that anymore, we haven't done it since June and it was only for Friday and Saturday Bookings, not Saturday and Sunday Bookings", I found myself having to find my booking confirmation on my phone as proof, to show the manager Alex I had booked the weekend special, I arranged to have our bottle of bubbles later that evening, After our visit to Newbury we were relaxing in our room when the wife spotted a large spider, I caught the spider and put it outside, I then had to search the room for more, behind the bedside cabinets and up the headboard, I found to be covered in cobwebs and dead flies, etc. I cleaned this up using tissues from the bathroom. I then found the waste bin full. The bathroom door would not stay closed and the lock would not work, I know I should have bought this to the attention of the management but this was supposed to be a special weekend, and I didn't want to make a fuss over the state of our room and spoil my Wifes Birthday Weekend. Next morning we went for breakfast we were surprised to see that we were sharing the restaurant with couples and their dogs, furthermore, the waiting staff were stroking and petting the dogs We had intended to have Sunday lunch there but needless to say we didn't. Also at breakfast, we were informed that they would be closing at 5.30pm that evening, the village magazine stated 22.30pm with the kitchen closing at 20.30pm and would be closed Monday, our breakfast would be left outside our room in a cool box, inside was 2 banans, 2 apples, 2 bottles of orange juice, 2 Activia live yogurts c/w cereal, 2 Croissants and 2 sweet pastries, wooden knife, spoon and napkins. Not at all what you expect when you book Bed & Breakfast. I spoke with the couple staying in the room next to ours they were also very disappointed with their stay as they had had similar problems, the lady said: "she had left a list of complaints on the desk". On checking my bank statement on Tuesday 13th August I found I had been charged twice once by The White Hart and again by the booking agency eviivo. I finally got my refund on Saturday 17th August. I was sent an email by eviivo asking me to do a review, I filled in the form but because I ticked the box to state I wouldn't recommend The White Hart it wasn't acceptable. Maybe it was just a bad weekend to stay at The White Hart, Alex the assistant manager who we found to be polite and helpful did tell us the cleaner was on holiday. We did like the comfortable bed and shower.

Stopped off in Hamstead Marshall with my family for lunch. The White Hart was my local many moons ago when I lived in the village. It was lovely to see it open again after a refurbishment and an extension. Whilst it is in keeping with what people seem to want these days it felt sad to see some of the traditional charm of being a village pub eroded. It doesn't really retain any of its authentic rural charm internally. The location is idyllic and the village almost unchanged. However the food was good if not a little over priced and the portions adequate. The waiter and bar service was friendly and welcoming.

As Newbury residents we have taken an interest in the reopening of the White Hart and have just visited for the second time. Our first visit a few weeks ago was for Sunday lunch, which we really enjoyed, and this time it was with a friend for a meal on Saturday evening. The staff were friendly and attentive, and since it was a perfect summer evening we were able to have a pre dinner drink in the very pretty garden. Having had some teething problems they now have a new manager and chef as back on the list for places to go! The inside is lovely but we ate in the garden as the sun was out which is equally relaxing. The pub is dog friendly too. Had looked forward keenly to our first visit but it could not have been more of a let down on every count. Clearly organisation, setting up of systems, forward planning and preparation for the re-opening, back in March I believe, has been ineffective at best, even though they've had plenty of time for all of that. They've also had lots of time to deal with any teething troubles but are still obviously beset by them. No excuses, lame or otherwise, now. By all accounts past experience of failure has not taught the same owner anything. Perhaps she should delegate and stay away? Running a pub would not appear to be her forte. Will the current manager be as short-lived as the umpteen other ones were under the same owner before it closed nearly four years ago. We witnessed other customers' experiences and decided to leave after our drinks and eat elsewhere. As for the beer, it reminded me of what an enthusiastic but incompetent amateur brewer friend of mine produced using a Boots Home Brew Kit back in the seventies! That or the contents of a Watney's Party Four can! We're off back to the States and our own little bar and brewery tomorrow and will find another pub to use on our next visit to England. As for the rating, I'd prefer to have left the circles blank but the system dictates that I have to fill in at least one! So long, Carl

We had booked to celebrate my Mum's birthday. Mum had phoned in the week as she had seen an ad for a Chef in the local paper but she was assured that everything in the kitchen was fine and they were fully staffed. We arrived at 7:20 for a 7:30 booking to be told that almost all the starters and tapas plates were off the menu and there wasn't a lot of choice for main courses either. We were also told that the manager had closed the kitchen and we were the only group being cooked for. So we ordered and waited. And waited. We finally had our starters (one at at time, not together) at 8:50pm. We were told the kitchen was very busy, which was interesting as it was supposedly closed. We received our main courses at 9:35pm. Whilst they were very apologetic and removed 2 bottles of wine from our bill it might have been better to phone us at 6pm and cancel our table. A pub/restaurant is not a viable business if you can't provide food and you give the drink away for free.

Waited at bar for far too long just to get a drink and during this time sadly I witnessed the "owner" talk very badly to her staff member ( friendly chap..Ben???... noted he had excellent customer skills) she showed no respect to him with what is a very understaffed establishment!!! I felt sorry watching what staff there were running about doing their best whilst we are waiting over an hour for our food to arrive. Would wait until it gets organised a bit better before recommending anyone to go there. Food was average nothing to shout about when it did eventually come.....Its a no from us.

We were delighted to hear the news the White Hart was open again. It’s a lovely country pub and fortunately the fire was on giving it a great homely feel. We had a group of 14 booked for 8pm and arrived about 7.30pm for an aperitif. We were told the kitchen was struggling a bit and could we wait to be seated. Finally seated 8.45pm. Getting the drinks took about 30mins as they had run out of clean wine glasses. Last of the starters arrived 9.55pm, two hours after we were due to be seated. Glassware was sent back because they stank of dirty dishcloth. Main courses arrived around 10.45pm which by then was too late. Owners had a mixed response to our complaint being quite defensive at times saying they’d only recently opened and didn’t have enough staff. In the end they made a generous gesture of taking the food off the bill and we covered the drinks. All in all, not a great experience for a milestone birthday celebration. My advice is that they only take bookings for the number of people they can successfully cater for and build up the numbers from there. A course on handling customer complaints wouldn’t go amiss either.

I used the restaurant to eat in before a taking a walk round the area and the owner could not have been more helpful in providing some local information and even another local walk with map. I indulged in the salmon and haddock fish cakes and actually thought them superb. I note that other diners have been disappointed with service. I certainly would not complain , but the pub was very quiet at the time with only a few other diners. Incidently they appear to be a dog friendly pub which is probably just as well as they are situated opposite the local rehoming centre.

Went here with a friend and my husband, the place was very quiet , a little background music might be nice.Service very good, food on the main part also very good, my hollandaise sauce was split, but the rest of the courses enjoyable, liked the Eton mess a lot.Overall enjoyable evening, but when we compared the price we paid to an evening at the Woodspeen, the prices were virtually the same but the food and service at the woodspeen were far far better.Overall still like this place a lot, but I think they need to up their game or reduce their prices to reflect the product they are delivering.

The actual food was lovely and the owner/ manageress was very friendly, just a shame the rest of the staff were below par. When we arrived ,we ordered drinks at the bars and by the time we ordered at the table and we were ordering they still had not arrived and we needed to reminded the waiter. I ordered the roast pork and when it arrived there wasn't aNy crackling (that had been advertised) and the waiter once reminded bought it back on a saucer, not even a side plate. The part of the restarunt we were in was completely empty and so was lacking atmosphere and was made worse when the waiter starting to dismantle a table and take them out Nd leVe the door out to the garden openand a chair was left randomly in the middle of the floor for about 10/ 15 minutes. It is such a shame as the food was lovely but it felt that there wasn't any attention to the actual dining experience. I have never written a bad review before but as a mother who was looking forwArd to a relaxing mothers dinner and to being made feel special I feel very short changed and will not go back . This is a shame as when the owner (I think) was there she did add charm and provide a certain amount of professionalism which was missing for the rest of the time.

Ours was a bad experience :( Table in restaurant booked for 3pm, but when we arrived, they were flustered and running behind due to large parties only having just left. We took a cramped table in the bar to wait. After about 30 minutes, a lady came across and asked if we'd ordered. I explained that we were waiting for a table before doing this. She said that we could either eat there or a slightly larger table (still in bar). I was surprised, but went with it. After nearly three hours we left having had two courses and coffee. Had to ask them to clear and for cutlery. And unless you ordered when they eventually cleared, you wouldn't be getting your next course. I got our drinks. The food was actually good, but the service was awful. They asked when I paid the bill if everything was okay and I explained about the booking and bar v restaurant, together with service. I wasn't upset, just annoyed. No apologies or acknowledgement. A big mistake which I won't be repeating.

I have previously written a 5 star review of the White Hart, so it's dissappointing to have to report that our latest experience was not at all up to scratch. The good bits: the Sunday roasts were good quality and the beer excellent. The bad bits: The service was shocking! Firstly my side of seasonal vegetables failed to materialise in either this season or next - when I challenged this the owner advised that she had spotted them on the side whilst she was enjoying her dinner (presumably she had veg with hers) - and I'll assume she was on her way to apologise when I asked!Secondly, when I order a round of 4 drinks before I take my first mouthful, i would normally expect the drinks to arrive before I took my last! - add another 5 minutes and you get the picture. We ordered two sticky toffee puddings to share between 4 and these were miniscule. When we complained we were told that chef had tried to stretch 1 and a half portions and had been ticked off. In fact chef had clearly cut off the hard ends to try and make the sponge edible. In all not a great visit and sadly there are better establishments in the local area so won't be rushing back.

I only popped in for a quick visit but from the moment I walked through the door I was greated by wonderful and friendly staff. It is beautifully decorated and they have an open log burning fire which I had the pleasure of sitting in front of (extra added bonus on a cold day). I ordered soup of the day which was mushroom and stilton, it was beautiful and no shortage of butter as in many restaurants. Fantastic service continued throughout my visit. The toilets were also clean and well equipped. Thank you for a wonderful lunch.

A group of about 20 went to Sunday lunch. Room and atmosphere were fine and service friendly. However the roasts were very poor, the beef and lamb were as tough as old boots. The plates containing meat, roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding arrived 10 mins before any vegetables were brought to either of the tables. and consequently food was cold before it could be started. It would have been much better if vegatables had been brought after a few plates were delivered to table. The 3 course meal took over 3 hours because of all the long waits between courses. Far too few staff to cope with the number of diners. Also very expensive - could have had a much better meal at home.

I have to recommend you visit this restaurant. Friendly and suitably attentive service and good food. In all honesty I can't say "great" food but noticeably above average when it comes to this type of establishment. So if you are looking for somewhere a little out of the way where you will be welcomed and well fed. I doubt the White Hart will disappoint

We took our two young boys to the White Hart on a cold and murky Friday evening. The welcome was warm aided by an open fire in the bar and wood burning stove in the restaurant area. The service was attentive and the waitress knowledgeable and accommodating. The food was brought quickly after ordering and the portion sizes left even our ravenous boys utterly satiated. We didn't have wine, but the one pint of ale I had was excellent. The bill when it came, was surprisingly reasonable given we had 3 generous courses. I would heartily recommend the White Hart Inn, it's definitely several notches above the standard of other places in the area.

We have been a regular monthly visitor to the White hart for a couple of years. The fish was excellent & the selection of sandwiches, which were available all afternoon, was very good. The other bonus was the beer! This month we have made 2 visits & what a difference. The staff were not as knowledgeable. The sandwich menu had change & was not as interesting. Worst of all the 2 bitters that were on offer were sour & flat.We will give it a break for a few months to see if this was just a blip.

Three of us visited this attractive old inn for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The menu has a great selection of meals and there is a specials board featuring several types of fresh fish from Brixham. The lemon sole was beautifully cooked with a caper butter. The haddock and chips comprised a large piece of crisply battered fish on a bed of creamy pea puree with excellent chunky chips, delicious home-made tartare sauce and some nicely dressed baby salad leaves. The vegetarian leek, broad bean and chickpea tart was also attractively presented and very favoursome. Only one of us could manage dessert and the feedback on the sticky toffee pudding was very good although it was felt that the accompanying rum and raisin ice cream didn't totally complement the pudding.Service was very good and the landlord was welcoming and courteous. All in all, an excellent lunch and I will certainly return to try some other dishes on the menu.

I went to the White Hart last night with some colleagues and generally speaking it was a very good experience - with just a little effort it could have been a great experience. We did not all arrive at once, so ordered some drinks in the bar - I ordered a gin and tonic - I never saw the tonic bottle, if there was one, the glass just appeared in front of me, nearly full, with just a few rapidly melting ice cubes, no lemon/lime. We waited in the bar area for the rest of our party to get to us then got the menus. We had to ask for these and then go and find someone to take our order - I am not sure how long we would have waited otherwise. We all made our choices and when our starters were ready we went to our table. One of the nice features of the room is that there is a glass wall enabling you to see into the kitchen - it is a shame that this view is interrupted by some display shelving - it's great to see your food being prepared, but it would have been nicer to see everything, rather than trying to peer round a selection of Gordon Ramsey cookery books! When our meals came, they were generally very good, but there were no finger bowls provided with the shellfish selection, which there certainly should be - after peeling a boiling hot prawn with your fingers you don't really want to be reminded by the smell on your hands for the rest of the evening. Without exeption all of our food was excellent and pefectly cooked, but the service needs to go up a few notches to match this - the waiting and bar staff were perfectly pleasant and they did their jobs, but they did not engage with us in any way.

Recently we spent a few days in the Marlborough area visiting places of interest, and on the Wednesday we realised it was 5 pm and we hadn't had anything to eat since a toasted teacake at 11 am! We saw a sign saying White Hart Inn and decided to drive there and see if they were serving food. We were greeted by very friendly helpful staff who said the chefs would start serving at 5.30pm so I had a J2O and my husband had a pint of Good Old Boy while we studied the menu. So many delicious choices, and, after much deliberation, we both decided to have the belly pork, and when it arrived it was superb, a fantastic blend of delicious flavours; this is seriously good food. I had a glass of the house red with my meal and it was a lovely Portuguese wine, Centila. For puddings I had the vanilla pannacotta with raspberries, strawberries and cherries, and my husband had the passion fruit cheesecake with lime ice cream, and we each had a coffee. All this superb food (and drinks) for less than £60!! Thank you White Hart staff, we had had a really enjoyable day and this amazing meal was the perfect ending.

My husband and I tried The White Hart for food tonight and it surpassed expectations. The staff were considerate, attentive and had vibrant personalities. The wait for food was perfect, not so long as to be starving but long enough for the delicious smells to tantalise our senses. And we were not disappointed. Both starters and main were cooked to perfection and just the right portion size. The ambience of the place was relaxing and comfortable. We will definitely return! Though next trip it would be nice to see something extravagantly chocolatey on the desert menu!

Stayed here for a weekend at the racing with friends. Arrived at lunchtime and settled down to one pulled pork and one stilton ciabatta, very good; good company in the barman too. Debunked to our nice little room for a nap, then met our chums at 6ish for a pint or two on their arrival. We hadn't booked a table, but the six of us were squeezed in somehow; fair play. A great & reasonably priced meal followed (monkfish for me). Next morning: one full breakfast; grilled, almost a diet offering (in that there was no grease that is; not a veiled reference to portion size...there was more than enough).Off to the racecourse. Lots of beer, food and fun. Then back to the White Hart. Another beer a good drunk chat with the manager (good man...he was sober btw) world to rights, MOTD. Go here, it is good. This took an age to write on a mobile device; proof that I mean what I write!

Having said that or beef lunch was good....would we go back, tricky one!!

9th August 2014 - A warm sunny Saturday evening in Berkshire - The atmosphere has changed at the White Hart from a bustling friendly local with excellent food to a nearly empty hostelry, pretty but empty garden and with young, poorly trained, staff who were polite but not friendly backed up by an unhelpful management. The visit was a special occasion with two couples, one resident for the weekend, having dinner to jointly celebrate their 39th wedding anniversaries plus one of the party's birthday. Despite assurances that we would be buying other wine the White Hart refused to allow corkage on a gift vintage bottle of Champagne. The manager was unable to talk face to face saying on the telephone 'he was not properly dressed and had a baby under his arm'. He said that corkage was not within his licensing laws and not Company policy saying a corkage charge would not cover the smallest mark-up on the Champagnes they offer (which he said was £25!) and, as far as he was concerned, it was the same as taking your own Fosters or fish and chips to the pub.The change at the White Hart is a great pity, the food is still excellent and the rooms good at a very reasonable price but if you want a friendly local with a more varied selection of excellent food served by helpful friendly staff then go to the Craven Arms at Enbourne, a mile up the road.

I was told this was a 'mustn't miss' place to go, so booked mid-week to make sure we would get a table. They seemed to have flattered the local newspaper when they visited but I've learned over the years that such people get rather better service.....!!!I called for a 8pm table at 5:30 to be told 'no problem' and we arrived on time at 8pm. At 8:20 we had been at the bar for 20 mins without any chance of a drink, an acknowledgement, or any kind of welcome at all. The bar staff were hugely overworked and they didn't seem to know how to work the till, or what order to serve people in. Just a quick 'I'll be with you in 5 minutes" after a 15 minute wait would have been reassuring....I'm sure it's a great place; but only go if you're prepared to wait for eons, and perhaps eaten before you've left home. :-(We left 25 minutes after being ignored and went for a really nice supper at the Red House at Highclere - a place I'd go back to without a blink.

The Sunday lunch we had here was a bit like the curate's egg - good in parts. We all had a Sunday roast and the meat was well cooked and tasty. However, the quantity of vegetables provided for four people was very small. Given the relatively low cost of vegetables, but the comparatively high cost of the meal, it seems unfortuneate for an establishment that obviously can provide tasy dishes, to let itself down in this way. The lack of vegetables was partly made up by the strawberry and apple crumble with ice cream which we all had for desert, and that was delicious. Service at the table was mixed - we were brought a bottle of wine that we hadn't ordered and then had to ask three times to get some water served. Could do better, I think.

I have dropped in for lunch twice in recent weeks and have been really impressed. We've only tried the sandwiches (prawns/ brie bacon and cranberry) with a choice of ciabbata or sourdough base bread. Look really appetising and come served on a board with a mini fish fryer of chips. Taste delicious and make for a great casual lunch with a pint or a glass of wine (house choice today was Prosecco…so cheers to that). The Pub has a bit of a fish thing happening with it's Friday fish specials and enjoys a delivery from Brixham. I know this because on my first visit the Chef came out to talk to us and we had a quick peak in the kitchen to see the freshly arrived delivery. We are intending to go back and try a Friday night as judging by the popularity of the fish specials at lunch today we are missing out on a treat. On both our visits the service has been excellent and the staff friendly and very welcoming. The bar side of the pub has a contemporary look and successfully pulls off that old but chic decor. All in all really happy to recommend and can see it becoming a bit of a favourite. Can't wait for the summer…it has a lovely out door seating area too.

Visited for my wife's birthday and were very happy with the food. We both chose the Cottage Pie which is made with braised beef instead of the more regular mince filling. It was very tasty. There was a good choice of real ale too, including West Berks brewery ale which was excellent. We visited on a Monday, so there were few people dining, hence little atmosphere, but the staff were friendly enough. The homemade soup I had to start was nice too. Overall this is an excellent choice for a decent pub meal and good pint of ale. Prices were reasonable for the quality of food. Overall - Recommended!

I came here late on a Friday with a bunch of (around 30) colleagues from a circus production company. The place only had 1 member of staff serving as they had sent the others home because it was quiet (prior to our arrival). Have to say that the guys serving us dealt with the sudden influx of theatre folk brilliantly. Everyone had an excellent few hours here and the cocktails were ace.

A great place for a Sunday roast. The teepee out the back is huge (at least the size of the pub itself) and well worth taking a look at if not having a drink or two in it in very comfortable seats/sofas. There are two large screens in there to watch sport and on a match night would be a great atmosphere.
