The best restaurants in Katesgrove Reading South East

Lovely fresh food at good prices. Highly recommend. Came one day randomly and have been coming ever since. Today I brought a friend who had the lamb curry and was hugely impressed. I get the vegetarian mix and have enjoyed them all especially the aubergine and spinach.

Visited with work colleagues for lunch after reading the review from Edible Reading and we weren’t disappointed. Ordered the King Tut ultimate breakfast and received a platter with Egyptian Moussaka, Flava beans, falafel, baba ganoush, humus… all served with warm flat bread and Egyptian tea with mint. Delicious, served with a warm smile and pistachio baklava to finish. I’ll be back again and bringing the family :)

Dolphin atendió el velorio de mi abuelo en febrero en Lewisham, quedamos muy impresionados con él y su equipo. Vinieron temprano al lugar para instalarse. Todo sabía fresco y delicioso mi familia y todos los huéspedes estaban muy impresionados con el servicio y la comida en particular el pollo frito, pasteles de pescado, Roti y el cuco y el pescado sabía excepcional. Recomiendo encarecidamente el Catering en eventos.

Amazing fish and chips, really glad I discovered this place. The food was up there with the very best I have ever had out of the countless chip shops I have tried up and down the country. Got to be the best in Reading and probably Berkshire too. Expertly cooked to order with quality ingredients getting every aspect just right. Light, crisp batter with tender fresh cod inside with the best chips I have had in a very long time - chunky thick cut, nice golden brown colour, crisp on the outside and soft potato inside. Both the fish and the chips were well drained and not greasy. Cod, small chips and mushy peas cost £11.10. Not the cheapest but worth every penny and nice large portion sizes. The food was well packed in a cardboard box so stayed warm and didn’t go soggy at all before eating. The shop looks a bit run down on the outside and isn’t in the nicest part of town, but don’t let that put you off, it’s very clean inside and has 5/5 food hygiene rating. Friendly service and the usual menu choices. This is one of those places that looks like it hasn’t changed in decades, but with food that good there is nothing that needs changing! Highly recommended, I will definitely be back. Cannot fault them, wish it was my local!

I have been a customer since 2020. Great and tasty marinated meats to cook on live bbq with fantastic atmosphere as Gooi Nara always make you feel welcomed. However rated 3 stars for service because the portion sizes have become considerably smaller despite the huge price increase on their menu. They used to always give some free starter to try but have also stopped providing that now. Still love the place but it is very expensive for what it is now.

I would advise you collect from the shop rather than get a delivery. From ordering to receiving my food was well over an hour.

I enjoyed the perfect pub lunch of Cod and chips inside the perfect old pub, for this time of year. The chips were hot, crispy and fluffy inside. The staff were lovely, friendly, helpful and efficient. Looking forward to returning.

Delicious, fresh food coupled with fast, friendly service. Highly recommended, a real gem.

We have been regular visitors to Chef Peking for some years and cannot recommend it highly enough. Always a warm welcome from Terrie, Eddie and the team. There always seems enough staff to cover what is a very busy restaurant. A good sign that it is so popular. Food choice is excellent, promptly served and hot. Delicious tasting selection of dishes, whether from the set menus, or ordering “a la carte”. You had better be hungry if you have the set menus. There is a lot of food! Looking forward to our next visit.

Had a wonderful meal here for my birthday. Absolutely wonderful food, fantastic coffee and the staff were so friendly and warm. It is clearly a hub in the community and it was charming to watch the owner interact with all the customers. Will definitely come again!

Pleasantly surprised, good food reasonably priced, generous portions, staff very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely go back for a full meal next time, as we only wanted a sandwich this time
