The Lion at Wendlebury – A Hidden Gem Just Outside Bicester Tucked away in the quiet village of Wendlebury, just minutes from Bicester Village and the M40, The Lion is a real find — the kind of place that perfectly blends countryside charm with modern comfort. Whether you're stopping by for a relaxed meal or staying the night, it delivers a warm and memorable experience. From the moment you walk in, The Lion feels welcoming. The interiors are a thoughtful mix of rustic and contemporary — exposed beams, soft lighting, and a palette of muted tones that create a sense of calm. The conservatory-style dining space is bright and airy, while the flagstone courtyard with its outdoor log fire offers a lovely spot to enjoy a drink whatever the season. The menu is solidly rooted in British pub classics, but elevated with care and seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. There’s something for everyone, with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options available. The drinks list is equally well-curated, offering a good range of local ales, wines, and spirits that complement the food beautifully. For those staying overnight, the accommodation is just as impressive. The 13 boutique-style rooms are stylish, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, with plush beds, modern bathrooms, and charming touches that make you feel right at home. It’s also family- and dog-friendly, which is a huge plus for many travellers. The service throughout is warm and attentive — the staff are friendly without being overbearing, and clearly care about making your visit as enjoyable as possible. In short, The Lion at Wendlebury is more than just a country pub — it’s a destination in its own right. Ideal for a weekend break, a stop on your way through Oxfordshire, or simply a great meal out, it’s a place you’ll be glad you discovered.

Worst sauce I have ever tasted. I grow my own herbs I love mint and I love lamb but not this version. The “mint”sauce ruined beautifully cooked tender lamb. It smelled of soap and tasted like it too.this was a special anniversary meal with lovely Chateauneuf du Pape wine so this was sad especially as chef went to the trouble of nice touch of little sweet treats at the end of our meal.

Went here on a Friday afternoon for lunch. The menu is varied with quite a few choices. It was quiet on the day we went. Food was good and service was ok.

What’s with the dreadful touch screen order boards , awful! It’s really slowed down the ordering, queues were ridiculous, many customers were struggling, during busy periods it would be advantageous to have a human on the till ! After today’s experience I’m not sure I will return to the restaurant which is a great shame because the garden centre and shops are fabulous. There are plenty of other big garden centres with a great human customer service!

Popped in one Friday lunchtime as an early Mother’s Day treat. On arrival we were ignored by a lady behind the bar, who then went on to disappear along with a man who was more worried about his dog than customers. There were no menus on the tables, and no staff in sight. Left after about 5minutes, shame as we want to support local but why should you spend money where they don’t want it!! Will not be going back.

I would rate 0 if I could. This should not be called a hotel. It is a bed and breakfast without the breakfast. You enter the 'hotel' via a side entrance, which looks vauguely like the pictures. The reception is old, run down and dark, and is not included in the pictures. The property has had a change of ownership - and as of 2023 stopped selling hot food. Could not accommodate a cot bed despite me paying for a room with a cot bed. And in addition to this the customer service is poor. - we refused to stay based on the above and the owner refused a refund. We left and booked holiday inn which is ever so slightly more but far superior. I will be contacting the bank and consumer affairs.

Third time I have been here and every time been horrible, wait 10 mins for cold reheated chips with no taste. Fish is ok but not worth the wait
