Looking for somewhere different to go for lunch, we decided to channel our inner sailors and popped on the ferry to Cowes. Our mission? To discover a gem we’d found in the Michelin Guide, nestled midway up a hill so steep it could double as a ski slope.
We arrived early and, naturally, indulged in a pre-lunch cocktail. I savoured an excellent dry Martini while my wife enjoyed their Signature Cocktail. Both were top-notch, though the chairs were so low I felt like I was sitting on the floor at a toddler’s tea party. Seriously, they were lower than a limbo-ing rattlesnake.
We made it to the restaurant and embarked on a three-course Sunday Lunch adventure. For starters, we had Beef Carpaccio and Trout, which were delightful. For the mains, we chose Roast Beef and Guinea Fowl (delicious but portioned like I was on a diet). We finished with treacle tart and Mille Fois, all accompanied by a delicious Rosé that danced on our taste buds.
A delightful surprise was seeing the owners dining in the room, tucking into the same Sunday Lunch. It’s always reassuring when the owners eat their own cooking – it’s a sign they believe in their food as much as we did.
My only beef (pun intended) with the place was the table and chairs. I get that it’s a 'Bistro,' but white tablecloths would elevate the New England-style decor from charming to downright chic.
In summary, a fantastic dining experience with cocktails to die for and food worth the ferry ride. Just remember to bring a cushion if you don't want to feel like you're dining in the Shire.
La comida es increíble, el servicio es genial. Tuve un montón de currys, probé un Biryani por primera vez, recomiendo encarecidamente. No estoy seguro de que obtendrá una mejor relación calidad-precio por £ 10. 00 .
Gran servicio y excelente comida. Gracias por disfrutar de nuestra comida y pensamos que era un buen precio. Gracias por el plato gratis y trozos extra en nuestra bolsa de comida para llevar.
Worst Chinese I have ever had sadly. Duck was chewy and hard and the chilli beef was tasteless and inedible. Won’t even go there with the dumpling sauce…
I use Bengal cuisine as my go to Indian on a regular basis. Having tried and tested most Indian take aways in Brighton over the last 30 years, I personally always have an excellent experience. From promt delivery, friendly staff to food always arriving hot, fresh and tasty. If you like a bit of heat to your curries they definatley deliver.
Excellent value for money too and if you create an account through their website you get ongoing credits to discount your meal.
Don t hesitate to try them if your looking for a great Indian take away.
We love Korean cuisine and had two people for lunch who are from South Korea. We spoke with Anushka to see if we could get some Kimbap, which we know they love. Even though it was something that they do not sell, Anushka and the chef went out of their ways to make us three portions of kimbap. The food was amazing, everybody really enjoyed it. Places like this are really rare, because most people would just think that financially it isn't worth their while taking their time to do this, but I hope this review more than compensates them for their time and kindness. Thank you so much.
