Popped into Barbetta’s today with a group of four. We were given menus while we waited, then shown to a table once one became available. We ordered four hot drinks and were quietly enjoying them when, out of the blue, a “Reserved” sign was plonked on our table. A member of staff then came over and said, “I’m sorry, this table is reserved so I’m going to get the bill now and I’ll have to ask you to pay.”
We were all a bit taken aback — not only were some of us still finishing our drinks, but the way it was said felt incredibly abrupt and quite rude. When I quietly said to my friend that I thought the service had been a bit off, the server overheard and challenged me, asking “Did you think I was rude then?” in a very defensive and confrontational way.
She then informed us — only at that point — that they were only serving food today, and implied we shouldn’t have been seated for drinks. At no time were we told this when we arrived or ordered. Had that been made clear, we would have had no issue going elsewhere. Instead, we were made to feel unwelcome and like an inconvenience.
It’s a shame, really. What could have been a pleasant visit turned into a very uncomfortable experience. Sadly, we won’t be returning — not because of the policy, but because of the way we were spoken to and treated. A bit of basic communication and courtesy would’ve gone a long way.
This is one of the best places to eat on the Wirral. Me, my wife and two kids love this place. I've tried many different meals off the menu and never had a fault with any of them, and the flavours are unbelievable.
We try to come here at least once a month we like it that much. We also like to come here for family events like birthdays, etc, and with having extended family members who are vegans, it can be hard to find somewhere that everyone likes. But not here, great for vegans, vegetarians, carnivores, and fussy eaters.
They offer a discount set menu before a certain time during the week, which can help keep the cost down. Which is great in this current climate.
I'd also recommend paying cash as they are a small business and could do without any extra charges.
The lamb shank curry is my favourite 👌🏼

Starter of panko calamari was decent. Main of chargrilled chicken kebab was only just edible. Very, very dry, had not been cooked on a skewer, even difficult to cut , chew and swallow! Salad came covered in mayo. Overall disappointing and could not recommend unfortunately.
I did not complain as I was in company who had booked it and didn’t want to embarrass them.

The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly, you only had to ask and it would be done for you, I would definitely recommend this restaurant in Southport
This is such an amazing takeaway place I always order food from here whenever I get paid and I am never disappointed the food is gorgeous always piping hot and the staff are really nice it’s fast on delivery too
Have eaten here frequently and have always had an excellent meal. The food is always top quality. We have also had a couple of takeaways and they are just as good as eating in.
The staff and service is also top quality. Would recommend that you give this restaurant a go if you have’nt yet.
Firstly the name has changed to The Copper Leaf but the standard of food is still superb. The service was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful even when we got our teapots mixed up which they sorted without any fuss. Three egg scrambled eggs on thick toast were delicious. Several members from *Wirral Amblers* visited after an amble around and back through the churchyard after discovering the history of the lightning strike in 1875. While sitting outside ahead of the amble I observed many people making a beeline for this cafe. It was very clean and the decor was a little quirky which I always like. Couldnt fault any aspect.
