We came across this cafe whilst out walking, and what a fabulous little cafe it is. It has beautiful views right on the doorstep. The staff were friendly. The food was served in quick time and was lovely. Couldn’t fault it at all. The only thing you need to be aware of is that they don’t take card payment. It’s cash or bank transfer only, so make sure you don’t get caught out! Will definitely be returning when I’m in the area again.

I visited the Emmott Arms in October. I love that this restaurant is independently owned (not many are!) and the food is so fresh and delicious. They have an excellent choice of options on the menu, and a roaring fire, perfect for the colder weather. I had the chicken Kiev this week which was lovely. I have also ordered the crispy beef in the past which is amazing.

We travel from Kent to visit family a couple of times a year and always make sure we visit this Chinese. The food is always hot, staff really friendly and the price is great.

Not great at all. Since it was taken over it’s gone rapidly downhill very fast. Not the same friendly staff and the food is nowhere near as good. Pies are always really overdone. Sandwiches are very hit and miss. Spend a fortune in there and won’t be going again. There’s one woman who is constantly there - I’m assuming she’s the manager as she only came when they were taken over - she’s got a face like she literally doesn’t want to be there and seems very unfriendly.

Had a lovely Sunday dinner - chicken , beef and ham , plenty roasties, mash and veg. Served nice and hot with a separate gravy boat. Service was prompt and friendly - they even had a gluten free Yorkshire Pudding ! Good choice of gluten free puddings. The dog enjoyed her dinner too. Open fires and great ambience.

Visited the store to shop and have lunch. Decided to give the revamped Bannisters another try after experiencing poor food and service on previous visits. Sadly, no change this time. The new layout and decor does nothing to enhance what could and should be an excellent restaurant. New layout with high back banquette seating makes it dark and dismal. Previous layout was far better. We waited around five minutes for someone to arrive to show us to a table (12.20). The restaurant was approximately 50% full. Seated with menus, but advised the kitchen had run out of coffee and eggs! we then spent over 15 minutes trying to get our order taken. The table on our left walked out after 20 minutes. Order evenutally taken for two chicken supreme dinners. These finally arrived after a futher of 30 minutes. Chicken and Yorkshire puddings were almost cold. The Yorkshire pudding was black on the outside and soggy in the middle. Chicken not as tender as expected. (Frozen) Roast potatoes were rock hard on the outside. Vegetables were bordering on raw rather than al dente. However, the cheese sauce was nice. The Manager was certainly not managing the area and obviously there are still issues in the kitchen. Wrong meals been sent out/returned. Staff training required. The Hive is now closed for what I presume is yet another reincarnation. We used to enjoy the Fish restaurant, but that went from been very good to mediocre. The food and service over the past fews years has certainly gone downhill and for the catering to survive a huge over haul is required. We did mention all the above to the waitress and on paying our bill (which was reduced by 10%).
