The best restaurants in Gilesgate County Durham North East

Lovely candlelit afternoon tea on a very cold snowy Sunday. Homemade cakes, sandwiches, scones & trifle and a warm welcome by the lady running the tearoom. A bit of a walk from the centre of Durham in the snow for two visiting ladies, but worth the trek. You do need to pre-book.

Loved it, the waitress was brilliant and the food delicious. The summer rolls were great, and the tofu is really good also, sometines it can be hit and miss but it was tasty. My husband was warned about the spicy sauce and ate it anyway, it was like watching someone be killed by something they love. He said it was very good spicy sauce.

Just had my first order since moving nearby beautiful food friendly service would definitely recommend 5star!! Black pudding was done perfectly

First time in this quaint local cafe, and although I live very close, i have never been. The staff were very pleasant and served in good time. I had the chilli con carne and rice with caramel short bread washed down with a latte. This was really good and will certainly be back. The cafe is hidden from the main road to the rear of Vane Tempest hall, and has scenic surroundings. Worth a visit.

Ordered from here tonight and can’t fault the place. Ordered bolognese pizza, chicken Kiev pizza, chips, kebab and garlic sauce. Absolute delicious and the staff are so friendly. Best pizza in the area by far. Wouldn’t recommend going anywhere else. Bolognese tasted very authentic and great quality. Thank you.

ordered 2 whole chickens ,one was freshly cooked but the other was not, hence 3 stars.

Come here for a meat, stuffing and gravy roll. Always enjoy it.
