Durham's Little Italy in County Durham

Been here a couple of times now, service always friendly and prompt and the food has been absolutely delicious every time with a great price point for the quality and portion sizes. Not sure how this place isn’t packed out!

Hidden gem, surprisingly one of the best Italian restaurants in durham!

Early evening booking so only a few couples in but this didn't bother us. The service and food was excellent. Fully recommend this restaurant and very reasonably priced.

Have to say we came in because we were staying nearby. Nice welcome. Nice atmosphere. Nice staff. Great food. Really enjoyed the pizza. And I don't consider it too expensive. Will definitely go again if in Durham. Recommended.

Was a bit wary due to reviews last time we stayed in Durham, need not have worried. Service was excellent, dog friendly and food was so tasty had to return for a takeaway as staying next door in the Travelodge the next day. Food excellent. Recommend a visit.

They said they do gluten free so I ordered for my granddaughter orderd hers gluten free made her poorly…. We ordered drinks 1 blackcurrant & water 3 blackcurrant & soda + 1 orange and water for the grandchild £17 for drinks a bit cordial disgraceful

We visited on a Tuesday for tea around 5pm and the restraunt was almost empty. Food was good, well prepared and staff were good, pleasant, capable and polite. The menu was broad Italian but the only downer on the whole visit was the cost of the starters..... too expensive Little Sicily. Reccomend tea time specials to fill the place up!!

Take away order, terrible. Carbonara was super oily this very little or no cheese, a very small portion for the price. Onion rings were so soggy they were not eaten. Garlic bread didn't seem to have any garlic at all. Super disappointed. Won't order again

We booked a table and asked for an alcove seat so when we arrived we were expecting such a seat to be reserved. But there was no acknowledgement of the booking and no alcove seats available. As we had been greeted by a horde of raucous drunk men drinking but not eating in the restaurant we asked for a table away from the drunken noise, to little avail. The food was good but when an ebriated man two tables away was sick all over himself, twice, it put us off staying for more. We weren't asked how our meal was and probably understandably how we' d enjoyed the evening as we paid. We felt we should have turned around and left when faced with the loud drunken behaviour at the entrance. Never again.

Great place. More must visit, it is wonderful. The food was very tasty. Easy to park your car. You can also walk from the city centre. Pasta was good. Well done chefs.

Big Italian restaurant with good food. Nice people in general. Interesting interior. Beer expensive, food not expensive. I had Alfredo pasta (chicken, mushroom, onion, white wine, cream and parmesan), it was very good except that the pieces of onion were really big. When they asked us if everything was alright, I told them that, but they didn’t receive it very well, they said Alfredo pasta comes with onions, yes, I know, it’s written in the menu, that’s not the point… We got limoncello on the house. I like this hospitality, it’s common in some parts of Italy and Croatia. I will come back.

We recently had a short holiday in Durham and decided to try the Little Sicily restaurant next to the Travelodge we were staying in. From the very start we three, two humans and one dog, were made more than welcome. The menu is very extensive so no matter your taste I think that you will find something to suit your palette. My good lady chose the lunchtime special and I chose ham carbonara which was prepared for me without any pepper as I have an allergy to it. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and would recommend this establishment to all.

This is a little gem which I discovered when a friend reserved a table for our dinner. Food was lush and was served quickly. We had four different dishes and they all were spot on. Restaurant had 5 beers/lagers on the tap and good selection of bottled drinks . The staff was really friendly, we were given a free desert as staff noticed us giving present for birthday Jaggi Ben though we didn’t tell the restaurant about birthday. There is an outside seating area too if you would like to sit outside.

Food was OK, carbonara was a bit oily but was nice overall. Other people had other pasta dishes which they said was really tasty. The garlic breads were lovely. Atmosphere relaxed. Service and staff were brilliant and couldn't have been better. Prices were good. Would go again.

Excellent food and service. I only gave 4* for atmosphere as it was mid afternoon mid week and I was the only customer initially so I did not know what to expect but I am so glad I stayed.

Went here for convenience as I was staying in the Travelodge next door. Glad I did as I had some of the best pasta I've ever eaten. Tasty, well cooked and excellent service. A little gem of a place. Highly recommended and now on my list of definites when in Durham.

Went here with a few work colleagues, I ordered seafood pizza . Absolutely delicious, freshly cooked with plenty of seafood toppings on. Great service by all waiters/waitresses.

Came here for pre-graduation drinks, great atmosphere, feels like Sicily!

Once again a beautiful Sunday lunch at Little Sicily, followed by delicious cheesecake and coffee. My favourite place for a Sunday lunch in the whole of Durham!

Really good food at a very reasonable price. I would definitely recommend. I had the pasta Arabata that might not look like much on the plate but tastes very good. The pizza was good with nice base to it and my son enjoyed his hamburger. The service was great and the venue is good. We've been 7 years ago on a previous visit to Durham and enjoyed and also a few years ago when there were different owners to now, and on that previous visit it was mediocre but the current owners have sorted out any short comings and now it's well worth a visit.

Where do I start? Well first of all I have a wheat allergy so picked this restaurant because it sold gluten free pasta. How thick am I to think they wouldn't put wheat in the sauce because I only asked for gluten free pasta? My starter and desert came at the same time because they took the chicken stock off the mushrooms because it had wheat in it. My wife who is vegan said wait.....my mushrooms had chicken stock in them????!!! Waiter was very apologetic but he knew he had not a lot to work with. They have an open kitchen and they young staff lookked very stressed. I don't recommend.

Wow, the portions were huge and without question the nicest pizza I have ever eaten. Great music, great atmosphere, excellent staff, highly recommend! And a free surprise desert as it was my birthday 🤗 I think I may now pop 🤣

Value for money with a family of 4 .Been twice now , once eating from the special menu. Second time Sunday dinner . Exellent service and there is an opportunity to sit outside in the summer and view Durham Cathedral.

Me and my parents came here for food and the service was the best experience I’ve ever had. What I assume was the manager was lovely and created an amazing atmosphere, and a waiter saw that i hadnt ate much of my food because it wasnt my favourite (pasta was honestly lovely but im just a picky eater!) and even after declining the offer was given a free brownie so i didnt leave with an empty stomach. 100% coming again, thank you so much <3

We were staying overnight at the Travel lodge next door and decided to try the restaurant. So glad we did. The food was gorgeous. A seafood risotto and a smoked salmon pasta dish. Beautifully cooked. Drinks were reasonably priced too. Great staff.

Called in for Tea with work colleagues,was so impressed we went back the following week for a family Birthday....staff were lovely food was fantastic.will definitely be going again

We love coming here and go regularly good authentic food the atmosphere is always great and the staff are friendly and it's also very reasonable priced.

Absulute appalling service, we asked for two glasses of Pinot Grigio wine, the reply was we don't have enough, we will have to get some asked for another different bottle of white, the reply was the same as the first after 30 minutes two people arrived with two bags from Sainsburys, thinking that they had got our wine, silly me, the answer was no "We couldn't get any" waitress kept walking past ignoring us, in the end I had to stand up and wave to grab her attention, all took place from 18:10 to 18:50. Needless to say never again as food was mediocre as well and to add insult to injury they tried to charge for a bottle of wine they never had, as I said at the start Abysmal.

On date night and Staff clearly hate their job , got our food and nobody came to check on us , I was having the Cajun beef.fillet pasta which was just a big bowl of grease in my opinion . After we finished the girl took our plates and never asked if we wanted another drink or to have a look at any type of dessernt menu . After another lad asked us 20 minutes later if we’re alright we got our desserts. Desserts were lovely in honesty. After we had finished the staff stared at us for 10-15 minutes before coming to take the empty plates (the restaurant was empty apart from me and my partner ) overall do not reccomend.

Looked forward to the food after reading the reviews. To which I found disappointing,it was pretty tasteless.

Lasagne was cold in the middle red hot on the outside,my prawns and squid was like rubber and they didn't heat the chocolate brownie up likes I asked

Honestly one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve been to, the service is quick for food and the staff are really nice. The atmosphere is really nice and the food is spectacular as well as the prices. It’s only £9.95 for 3 courses from 12-5. I recommend the Napoli pasta as it is an out of world experience and is the best pasta I’ve ever eaten. 10/10

Ordered through uber eats and received what can only be described as probably the best take away I've had. The food was hot, it was fresh, everything ordered was full of of flavour. Absolutely outstanding, will definitely be ordering again, or possibly dining in.

Quiet but we were there early at 5pm, the food was outstanding, between us we had 2 pasta dishes and a pizza ....all were amazing I would recommend the chicken Arabiatta ...

Haven’t been, ordered from Uber eats, chips were way overdone and soggy…not a good taste. Cheese burger was a decent size but was smothered on the bottom with garlic sauce which wasn’t advertised under the food description. Kinda dangerous to do this considering a lot of people have allergies and dietary issues these days but whatever. It made the burger gross and my friend didn’t eat it. The bun was SOAKING and soggy to the degree it was as if it had been in water because of the sauce 🤢 Go to sin city if you want a good burger. Pizzas were…ok but I’m not going to lie Tias which is a Mexican restaurant has tastier ones. Crusts were burnt as well on the ones we ordered from here, and they just weren’t that tasty if I’m honest. No herbs or seasoning…just… 🥱 blergh. I’ve had tastier frozen ones and that’s not a lie. Hot dog was advertised as coming with ketchup, mustard and onions but the restaurant was clearly so desperate to rush the order out to us it arrived without onions…or sauce…it was a sausage in a dry bun…absolutely embarrassing for the restaurant that it came this way 👎🏻…go to Heidi’s wurst for your hot dogs. Pate? Haven’t tried it. But it looks like store bought pate…bright pink and awfully square. Over all I won’t be ordering from here again I’ll stick to Bistro Italiano for my Italian dining. £48 for meals that were less than…meh…😪. Waste of money. 2/10 …one star each for the pizzas they attempted 👎🏻

Visited with my daughter & Grandchildren 01.04.24. I had the specials lamb with pea puree & roasted veg. Outstanding meal & fabulous value for money. Grandson had spicy beef wrap and again he loved it. Daughter had chicken Alfredo loved it and grandaughters tomato pasta. Lovely food, great atmosphere & really friendly staff. Went for Sunday dinner today soup for starter ..lamb dinner. Then cheesecake . All food was fabulous and fantastic price of £14 for a 3 corse will definitely be back ..they also do 3 corse for £9.95 'mid week until 5pm . Fantastic value for money x

The calamari was fresh & one of the best I've had considering I'm from London, so I've had my fair share. The penne arrabiata was well seasoned, was delicious & fresh. Keep up the great work. It was impressive

Starter of king prawns and steak was absolutely tasteless and cost £12…penne amatriciano was not good and had fatty bits of bacon in it ..then noticed the chefs appeared to be going out for a ciggy…….won’t be returning!!

Great little restaurant. At first glance it's a bit dated. However, the service is great - all of the staff are friendly and attentive. The food is fantastic if you choose the Italian options. We tried the BBQ wings as a starter and wouldn't recommend them but the Italian mains are wonderful. The sauces are all delicious and piping hot. The whole meal and two drinks for 2 people came in at under £50. Definitely would go again. It's just next to the Travel Lodge so you needn't walk all the way into town. Thanks so much.

Nice place to go for cheap food, and sometimes it's really nice it can be a bit hitty, missy. Last time I believe my food was heated from frozen as it was beyond hot when it was served to me! Seems to change ownership quite often too.

The Little Sciilly is a bit of an unknown gem. Attached to the travellodge in Durham but not part of the hotel, this restaurant is a beautiful place to enjoy a good wholesome Italian meal. The prices are very good for your pocket and the food is delicious. The service was very fast albeit not a lot of people in at the time I was there. Then again it was very early evening. Anyway you won't go wrong in choosing this restaurant for a bite to eat and a nice drink too.

We ate here after a stay at a nearby hotel. It was early lunch time so there wasn't too many people in so we were seen to quick. The waiter and waitress were both very good and accommodating. The atmosphere was OK, music a little repetitive. However, the food was very good. Fresh, and piping hot when it was served. Good sized portions too which were filled with flavour and for the price, really well worth it. A great little venue that perhaps needs some work on its decor but of you're wanting a good serving of delicious food with great staff, you can't go wrong here and the value was fantastic.

This is about the fourth time I have visited this restaurant to host a birthday party for a teenager. Excellent value for money and lovely friendly staff and they know how to make a fuss of someone’s birthday!! Food is very nice and reasonable, something for everyone

We were staying in the adjacent Travelodge and had lunch on our first day. It was fabulous - we got 3 starters to share between the two of us and struggled to finish as they were so generous. We had dinner on our last night - lobster ravioli and the meatballs - absolutely fantastic. Service was great and it's a lovely, relaxed atmosphere in an historic building. Oh yes, and excellent value

A completely disastrous experience! The waiters are very hostile and disengaged with customers, standing chatting and drinking together. The soup tasted like canned soup. The pasta overheated and did not seem freshly made. The cultlrey unclean and had to ask them to change some of it. Will definitely not go back there.

Is it a new owner or just a rebrand?

We were celebrating our little wedding today in this place and it was just a great choice. The food was very tasty and just amazing. The atmosphere is very welcoming. The guy Medi ( sorry for probably not writing it correctly) just made our day much more special. I think he should give some kind of training for other people working in hospitality how to deal with customers. He was just really great! Thank you so so so much for this great time. Highly recommend!!!❤️

I am visiting Durham and me and my family ate here tonight. It was absolutely beautiful. The food was amazing and the staff are all so welcoming and very tentative. Nothing was to much trouble. The waiter was very chatty and made me and my family feel very relaxed. I would highly recommend this restaurant

Visited tonight with my family, from start to finish fantastic service. All the staff were so welcoming, we all had different starters and each one was outstanding, the mains were amazing, as everyone was pretty full we decided to have dessert to go. My daughter loved the fact you can sit and watch the chefs cooking our food. Absolutely recommend to anyone and everyone. Thank you so much for a fantastic meal and a fantastic atmosphere.💙

It seems that this little restaurant has changed name again. The lunchtime special menu has also changed - the price has increased slightly & there is hardly anything on there that contains meat. My companion was disappointed that the risottos had been taken off the specials. However, the portions are still generous for the price & the waiter service was exceptional - the young man must have a degree in hospitality. We will definitely be returning.

Really disappointing. Got a pepperoni pizza, couldn't taste or see any base. Just cheese & only 11 pieces of pepperoni, no onion, peppers or seasoning....tasteless
