Amazing pub restaurant, amazing food Lovely staff

The food was amazing!! We both had the hanging cajun chicken kebabs and the chicken was beautiful. Service was great, we'll definitely be back

Sorry but this was a really poor experience. Myself & my mam went in to try the food a couple of weeks back in the afternoon & apart from a table of four people we were the only people in. We were welcomed at the bar area, shown our table after we sat down were given our menus. The waiter was standing behind an empty bar & we waited a good while for him to eventually come over & take our food orders. The waiter was really quiet and reserved & apart from asking us what we wanted to eat or drink, there was no confident, friendly interaction at all. An hour & ten minutes later & we were still waiting for our food & the waiter who had gone back behind an empty bar all of that time did not once come back over to apologise, explain or enquire why we were waiting so long for food in a place that was virtually empty. I had to call the waiter over to ask how long the food would be & he looked at me like I had said something out of place. He went into the kitchen to find out & after very few words told us it wouldn't be long. We got our food five minutes later (an hour fifteen minutes wait) & the food was ok. My mam told me a couple of times that she did not feel very welcome & the atmosphere was not friendly, & I felt exactly the same. When we left to go out of the door the waiter was walking behind us we said goodbye & I don't think he even replied. This negative review is based on the really poor customer service we received throughout (lack of) & after such a lengthy wait for food, we wont be back.........

Absolutely shocking Xmas dinner. Appalling for 70 quid a head. Was lovely 2 years ago but hugely disappointing this year, not sure if owners have changed. No decorations on the table, having to change cutlery every course, soup spoon for dessert. Tried to serve the starters before everyone was sat down. No Brussels, no carrots or broccoli. Yorkshires were from the freezer. Sticky toffee pudding was like a brick. Honestly just don't bother.

Went in for a Xmas drink with my family, staff … RUDE! Drinks POOR! Such a shame as I was a regular visitor to this establishment and so disappointed that it has went down hill .. food Hygiene 1* by food standards agency .. I would give this a minus if I could.. valiant pubs sort this out.

Had an amazing time at my Sons 50th Birthday night. Staff were lovely, The atmosphere and ambience was not what I expected, it was so nice and welcoming. The food that I had was nice the dessert was delicious. Considering it was the first week with the new owner he did well. Obviously he will tweak things to his own standards. But on the whole I was impressed. Good luck on the new adventure.

The sausages were so overcooked that it was difficult to get the fork in. The bar was a total joke. Staff were little better than useless. Won't be back again.

Called in last week for a bite to eat, I had the steak kebab it was awful, when asked if everything was OK I mentioned the steak was bad I couldn't chew it at all it was so tough. I had a few chips I was so hungry, so after a while he came back and said its the way the steak is its been rubbed in pepper and marinaded then continued to say that's the only complaint they'd ever had turned on his heels and walked off, honestly I was taken aback by this so I told him to take the meal away which was taken off the bill in the end. We tried a few of our fav places first and couldn't get in they were fully booked, this place was empty and had no atmosphere so really that speaks for itself. Wouldn't return or recommend to anyone.

It's an ok restaurant but there was only two tables in use so no atmosphere.

First time in here. Absolutely amazing service. We done bottomless brunch Karl and Jonny were amazing servers, They had decent banter and actually made conversation and made us feel welcome. Absolute credit to your team. Food was delicious and couldn’t keep up with drinks. Highly recommend and certainly will be back.

Lovely rustic setting. Very polite, friendly, and attentive staff. On this occasion our meals weren't as good as the first visit and the restaurant was quiet with very little atmosphere. I won't write this restaurant off and will return at some point just to give it a second chance.

Great night out. Lovely meal, would recommend upgrading to filthy nacho fries, they’re delicious. Freshly made cocktails were well worth the wait. Very reasonably priced for the quality and portion size. Will be returning soon.

Me and my “friend” have visited this place on valentines night, Albeit we are not an bonefied couple however after being told we couldn’t come any earlier due to the restaurant being fully booked when we called absolutely ravenous, then upon arriving the restaurant to be half empty, to the waiting 25 minutes to be asked for our drinks and food order, we then waited a further more hour for our starters, then nearly 45 minutes for our mains. Thankfully our desserts were more hasty and the bill being the quickest course of them all… a whole 74 seconds! All in all a relatively tasty menu with a much larger waiting time and speedy service to get your hard earned cash.

Called in briefly to grab a bite a drink and to eat for the first time. Quiet early afternoon and it was deserted apart from two staff members and 3 people at one table. Restaurant was empty. Place is lovely inside and the decor is trendy, but it was lacking in atmosphere. Lady behind bar was friendly and explained the place was under new management. Grabbed a couple of drinks (slightly pricey for Consett) and was looking at the menu, but someone opted to order a cocktail that required stirring for a good ten minutes by the bar staff. The combination of the quiet bar and the incessant chinking of the metal spoon in the glass was like nails on a chalk board just behind me - had me and my partner on edge and we my anxiety went up 100 notches until we ended up downing our drinks and leaving to go to Wetherspoons!

A bit of a let down. Menu online didn’t match what was offered at all. Food was much pricier than online and differed. Taste was good on curry but lacked curry sauce rice was a bit overdone and therefore a bit mushy. Pizzas were a bit dense and pie and veg lacked presentation and quality. A shame as all previous experiences have been great. Sure they may just need time to get it right.

Took ages to be served with our drinks and food, ordered fish and chips the chips were frozen chips and not "proper" chips as described in the menu, no homemade tartare sauce cause apparently they sold out, how do you sell out of something that's homemade 🤣 the mushy peas were stodgy like they'd been microwaved and the poor lass who served us didn't seem to know anything about the food when we asked her, came here before covid and the food was delicious it's gone massively downhill, the only good thing was 50% off the food and I can see why

Waited an adge to be served. Cocktails where lovely when received, so ordered more, which were dreadful. Took them back to the the bar to ask for them to be changed. 20 mins later, I'm still waiting, so I asked for a refund..what a chore that was! Staff were running around like headless chickens and not that pleasant apart from the young lady. She was lovely. Wasn't just me unhappy with service... Everyone at the bar was complaining, which is a shame because it's a nice place, but the service lets it down...badly

Limited but good vegan options. Portions were huge. No joke, I think there was a whole cauliflower in the katsu.

I was really looking forward to bottomless menu. burnt crisps which I could not eat with steak sandwich,salad was not up to much. The waitress was brilliant but management didn't listen to our feed back. It's the 2nd time I have been there this year and been left totally disappointed .

I had steak which was ok but slightly overdone. My daughter had chicken with blue cheese sauce which was more like cream no taste. The meals were average and the place was crowded.

Lovely decor. Loved every thing about it. The flowers, the ligths the rustic brickwork etc Bar staff were very good. Was visiting as part of a large retirement party group. Opted for the bottomless brunch. Wasn't very bottomless. No one came to check if we'd like any additional items bringing out, during the main courses. We asked for a second lot of dessert, as 2 plates of little cubes of cake did not go far between 5 people. The waitress looked at us in shock and said she 'could ask'. We said we were having the bottomless brunch Think she must have been new and not got the whole concept of the bottomless brunch deal, yet. (She looked petrified anytime anyone asked her a question, to be honest). The bottomless brunch was OK for drink, money value wise, but not a massive selection available compared to other venues that offer bottomless brunch. The food was nice- we all loved the feta and pomergranate pizza. Just would have just been good if someone had checked if we needed anymore of the mini foods, rather than having to ask.(we didn't ask for extra of the mains) Whether it was because we were in a large group no one thought to as, I don't know. Also, the way it was presented wasn't the best, as in putting it on the slate cake stands. The bowls and plates and the old newspaper style paper was good, but the wobbly slate cake stands made it hard to see what was in each bowl and awkward to get. And they were not very sturdy. If I went again I'd just order off the main menu I think.

One member of the party didn't complete their meal (steak was a bit tough) and the staff offered to remove it from the bill, offering a replacement or complementary drink.

We booked the snug for my son's christening. Communication with Helen was great throughout and the team took care of everything so we could relax and enjoy the day. Food was great, the set up with the cake and decorations was perfect, and the staff were really helpful and friendly. Everyone who came said they thoroughly enjoyed the day and were also impressed with the old court house. I'll definitely book again for another event when an occasion arises. I highly recommend it!

Staff very pleasant quality food well presented thought the drinks were a little expensive however the table we sat at was so sticky in fact we had to peel the menus from the table it really made our stay uncomfortable to be honest

On being led to our table upon arrival we ordered 2 soft drinks. On delivery of the menus we chose the special. 2 main I dessert to share and two drinks . On choosing g&t we were asked what brand. She then returned for an alternative as it was not stocked. We took her first suggestion. The meal went without incident and we requested the bill. The non alcoholic drinks had been allocated to the special and the g&t billed separately. A small error we thought. No because we had offered the name of a branded gin upon request (even though that is not what we got) we were billed. It seems the special is inclusive of non branded alcohol only. There in black and white it was pointed out to us. An oversight on our part I agree...but an irrelevant one when my verbal order was I quote" we'll have the special please...two rump steaks -sticky toffee pud /ice cream and two g&t. Were the following choices on gin marketing or newly trained staff as suggested. Neither in our control. A contrived error in order taking or an identified training need. The issue was resold after speaking to several members of staff. Spoilt a good first meal out after lockdown..leaving a nasty taste in our mouths.

Just had the best takeaway ever, the old court house always delivers beautiful food when sitting in or taking away like we have to at the moment. I am parky about carbs due to being a type 1 diabetic and the old court house were more than happy to give me extra salad/veg instead of chips & bread. The chicken kebab & halloumi fries were magnificent and my partner thoroughly enjoyed her pizza too. Always love the customer service, we’ll be back for certain.

Wow! We went to the court house for a Halloween family meal. The service was second to none, the staff were very attentative. Gary made our night so perfect, he let my children have a picture with him which they loved (social distance of course). The food- it was unreal, the steak was cooked to perfection, the kids meal was a hit too. My little boy is autistic, so he's very picky.The cocktails- out of this world, they were bursting with flavour. The waffles were amazing! I can't recommend this place enough, its definitely going to be our go to restaurant. If you're wanting five star food and drinks for date night or family night this place has it all!

We may be in unusual and depressing times but this place still has a nice vibe and the food is delicious. The customer service is excellent and very friendly. We were served mainly by Aaron who made us feel relaxed and happy to be there. The service from all staff was exceptional. Felt very safe and will definitely be back

Myself and four friends visited on Tuesday 25th August at 7p.m. We had pre booked and it was our first visit and won’t be our last. The discount scheme was not the reason we booked, it was simply the fact that it is local to us. On the night the dining area was busy but comfortable and all regulations relating to COVID safety were strictly adhered to. We all chose mains and desserts which were tasty and plentiful. The service was good and the attitude and professionalism of the management was exceptional. This was highlighted when an error occurred when part of our order was sent to the wrong table as the order was partially the same. We only realised when two of our mains did not arrive. We were made aware of the mistake and promptly served with fresh replacements. When the bill arrived we weren’t charged for the two mains which did not arrive on time which was a really nice gesture of good will. We insisted on paying for the late orders but the manager insisted that due to the mistake the two meals were complementary. Finally I would just like to thank all of the staff for an enjoyable evening and we will be back and recommend you to others. Thanks. Sara and the girls.

Me and my family visited The Old Court House on Monday 24th August, at around 7:30 and was seated by a gentleman with white ish hair. Think his name was Dan. He was very through with sitting us down and explained everything to us and was always present in case of any problems. But he wasn’t needed throughout the night because we had a male young waiter who had his hair tied up. He approached the table and greeted us introducing himself as Aaron (I think that’s how you spell it) he was really smiley and bubbly and helped us choose a cocktail to our taste and got us a jug of water. He then made sure he gave us 5 minutes and also gave eye contact to us if we were ready earlier as he was cleaning the table and sanitising the tables around. One thing I will say is every staff member is always cleaning and making sure the area is always disinfected. Probably about every 15 minutes a member of staff would spray disinfectant to make sure all is safe.REALLY MADE US AT EASE.Aaron came back and took food order firstly asking us if we had and allergies or intolerants which was amazing because if someone did have an allergy he would of made it aware. He also knew the menu very well making sure our food is exactly how we wanted it. After taking that he made sure he took the food order over and came back and filled up our jug. Also took another drink order again going and disinfected the area. Also another thing to say is all staff members seemed to love to work there all smiling and seem very happy and work together amazingly. Cocktails seem to come very quick and so did the food. We had starters and mains and the wait wasn’t too long. Aaron checked back on the food all the time and made sure all was okay. Really impressed when we were done after both courses each time he double checked to make sure everything was okay, and took a drink order. We finally went onto dessert and he went through what they didn’t have and recommended the desserts to have to which we would of liked to our taste. He wasn’t WRONG they were gorgeous. When we finished we asked aaron for the bill but he offered us tea and coffee which we declined. He was very thorough with the bill but said to us to have 5 mins or how ever long we wanted to let our food go down which was very considerate.We payed the bill and as we left walked out but every staff wished us a nice rest of the evening and invited us back to see again.Will DEFINITELY BE BACK.Big recognition to Aaron the waiter who was amazing and always on the ball. Also big recognition to everyone for the cleaning and keeping everyone safe in the restaurant.

Three of us had sirloin steak and one the OC burger. Absolutely gorgeous, real chips and one of the nicest meals I’ve ever had out, deserts were amazing too. Service excellent and beautiful restaurant inside, like being in Greece. Staff very helpful and friendly and price was cheap for what we had. About time Consett had a decent place for a nice meal. I would definitely recommend and we’ll definitely be back. Thank you to all the lovely staff for a fantastic night for our wedding anniversary xxx

Me and my friend booked for the bottomless lunch and it was absolutely amazing. The staff are great especially Dan. Everything was put in place for social distancing. Plenty of hand sanitiserFood is out of this world, service is brilliant. We love coming to the old court house & will be returning. Had an email the day before to confirm I was attending. Love that idea! Thank you for a brilliant meal and making us feel so safe.

We used to regularly go here before lockdown. Post lockdown, very well organised. Card details taken over the phone in case of cancellation - understandable given current climate. Food was unbelievable - Pork started, Pork Giros and Ramen. Wow!! Drinks are even better than they were too!! Staff were really on their game and the new decor is subtle but lush!! I'll be back!

Post lockdown, it's like food and drink has reached another level. Definitely worth a visit and many return visits.

Eaten in a few local restaurants in the last few weeks, since the easing of lockdown. trying to support local business. Phoned to make a booking. Took all my details, and then asked for my credit card details. I said why do you want my credit card? Because of 'no show'! I said I am not going to give you my credit card details!Cant make the booking then!Eh? Are you joking! No person in their right mind would give out credit card details, with the amount of scamming these days!Was looking forward to trying your restaurant. I am not one of those people who books and does not show! I would ring and inform you, as any decent individual would.You have rejected a sound booking for a table for 6. None of the other local pubs and restaurant's I have used in the last 4 weeks operate this policy.Sheer madness!

My first ever escape room experience. Upstairs in the Court Inn, Consett. It was called the Giants of Consett. Three of the clues within the room didn't work. UV lights which were supposed to illuminate a clue failed to work. We entered some directions using a joystick which was supposed to open a box. This failed to work despite us having the right sequence of directions. Then when we located Thor's hammer,it actually failed to open the door. Paid £20 for the experience. Given a free pint as an apology.

Came for a birthday meal in a group of 12 . Started off a lovely night starters were nice then the main came out of three people in our group ordered the pork gyros when it came out the presentation was lovely but was totally ruined by hot sauce. It does not state on the menu that it comes with hot sauce just salad and Taziki sauce. The waitress came and asked if everything was ok with our food but being in a group of 12 I was waiting until the end to let them know that the dish was too hot and inedible but having ordered 3 pork gyros and all of them being left surprising it’s not rocket science to take notice that something is wrong ?? . We paid for our food at the end of the night giving the feed back and the waitress then decided to have a go as we hadn’t gave the feed back when she came around resulting in her shouting over the bar at us absolutely no need. I will most definitely not be returning for food or a drink in the near future.

Came with family on a Friday evening. Didn't catch the name of the lady who served us (I think she said she was quite new?) but she really looked after us all evening, she was very friendly and helpful. The food and service and also the cocktails were all great! Nice relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant and the bar area sounded a little more lively! Looking forward to coming back.

Popped in tonight to buy gift vouchers for a Christmas present for my lovely neighbours. Waiting to be attended to I was privy to a shocking telephone call from a customer who was being fobbed off by a young member off staff, instructed by the cowardly manager "who wouldn't take the call" explaining there New Years Eve booking was cancelled. The Manger basically, cancelling long standing New years Eve Bookings in favour of a better money making night, terrible, suffice to say I didn't get the vouchers.

Well, after several pleasant trips to The Old Courthouse, I decided to book a table for me, my husband and 3 daughters for New Year's Eve. I rang at least 6 weeks ago, so as to avoid the hassle of everywhere being booked. Marvellous. Booked for 8.30pm, perfect timing. Had a chat about not having to rush our meal, plenty of time before we had to leave blah, blah, blah.Imagine my surprise, then, when I received a phone call tonight, less than 2 weeks before our booking, to tell me that things had changed and the old court house had decided to ignore our booking for a meal and, instead, scrap meals and, again instead, organise a themed evening. 1920s to be exact. No meal but canapés. Wow. Just what I was after. Not. No explanation, other than a waitress endlessly repeating a well rehearsed apology and offering no solution to being left high and dry less than a fortnight before the last day of the year.Thankfully, good old sambuca to the rescue!! Table for 5 sorted!!Thanks for nothing, Old Courthouse. Much as I've enjoyed you before, that's it for me. Greed and inconsideration are, clearly, more important than customer satisfaction.

Booked a table on the OpenTable app. Arrived to find the restaurant closed. Definitely would not recommend booking online as this clearly is not up to date.

21 of us had the bottomless brunch for my 30th birthday celebration. It was a fabulous afternoon.Delicious food and the gin / prosecco were lovely. Gary and the team couldn't do enough for us! Thanks again for a lovely afternoon

Went for a meal, ordered starters and mains , starters came , nachos with no cheese? Chips over fried and cooked in old oil. To top it all off my girlfriends chicken was raw. Staff hiding behind the kitchen , waitress apologised for this the chef came out boasting about his “10 year” experience . Clearly not mate. learn how to cook chicken. Probe it , if it’s 75° Celsius serve it. Simple

Visited the old court house tonight and I was highly impressed with the delicious food and cocktails. Very reasonably priced with fast service. Would like to thank our waitress Azariah for her fantastic service!
