Grand. Just there for a quick meal before a show at Witham. Excellent Italian food.

Fabulous evening with delicious food for a large group of 8 of us. Superb staff and service. Thoroughly recommend this place if you want delightful italian food.

3 experiences of ordering takeaway pizza, they got gradually worse: First order was for 3 pizzas, delicious, first time customers and passing through as part of a trip. Second order was 3 pizzas, two were missing the star of the show (garlic), and the other had a piece of plastic on it, presumably from one of the ingredient containers - not great. Third and our last ever order - pizza was full of spinach that hadn’t been washed properly so every bite was like eating grit. We initially thought we had found a gem but we will give it a miss next time.

Don't let the exterior of this place put you off; the food is very good. As one of the few Barnard Castle restaurants open on a Sunday evening, my husband and I tried our luck with Capri, even though the outside looks rundown. We were glad we did, because our food & wine was quite tasty. I had the lamb shank, which was sooo tender...my mouth is watering as I write about it.

My husband & I always visit CAPRI when back in Barney but over the years it seems to be somewhat lacking. We visited this evening and one particular waitress was excellent but the other two more senior/experienced waitresses were way off the mark - both had no idea how to treat their customers!! They ‘slouched’ around doing as little as possible. When we were firstly sat down at our table we noticed an abominable mess of chips, ice cream blobs, cutlery etc all underneath an adjacent table - we pointed this out to one of the more experienced waitresses & she said that she’d clear it straightaway but alas when we left 2 hours later, nothing had been done. Keep your eye on the ball - your customers are very important & we will not be rushing back.

The best pizzeria for miles around. We go every week and it never disappoints . The staff are fantastic and so is the food.

First visit here and won’t be hurrying back. The server that greeted us as we arrived seemed nice but her colleague couldn’t have been less welcoming - a theme that continued throughout our visit. The food was ok but the starters looked like they’d been thrown on the plates and the dips were served in disposable hospital pill pots/McD’s style sauce pots - cheap looking and off-putting. The restaurant had run out of bottled lager, only had one pint left of one of the beers and the shandy they served hadn’t mixed while being poured and was still lemonade at the bottom. We dined early so expected families, but one young child was sat in front of a phone with cartoons playing so loudly it was intrusive to other diners - something good serving staff should have proactively and politely addressed. When we asked for the bill it was plonked on the table by the passing unfriendly server without any words. By that point i was so disenchanted I did something I never do and paid the bill without leaving a tip. Needless to say we won’t be rushing back.

Delicious food, great service and reasonably priced.

We went 30 minutes into opening, fast service and nice servers but food tasted like frozen reheated pasta. We all had bad pasta and my meatballs were crunchy outside and mushy inside, basically reheated frozen.

Drove all the way there for two takeaway pizzas only to be told that the restaurant is not doing takeaway because they have many customers inside. What a waste of my time and bad service! People driving all the way to get food get rejected! Never passing by that village again after the bad service.

Fabulous food and great chefs and waiting staff.We were a table of six and booked in for 6.30pm, having had a two course meal with drinks and coffee afterwards. At 7.45pm the manager arrived with the bill which hadn’t been asked for saying no hurry though, then in a hearing distance to our table a discussion of needing our table now at 8pm! No time slot was given on booking. A shame as it ruined a Birthday celebration! Need to be precise if there is a time slot for tables!!

Must be authentic Italian as I think they flew ours over on a plane it took that long to come out! Food was average, would suit an average price tag. Although it was busy it shouldn’t excuse waiting over an hour for garlic bread starters then getting them served with no plates! We were also charged for meals that didn’t even end up coming out!

Lovely takeaway from here, the girls really saved us as we were struggling to get food anywhere else as it was so busy! Lasagne very good and pepperoni pizza cooked perfectly.

Warm friendly place attentive staff good food

We telephoned on Friday 26th July and made a booking for 1.45pm on Saturday 27th for 4 people. Unfortunately our bus was very late and we didn’t arrive until 2pm but as Capri does not close until 3pm and you can make bookings on the website until 2.30pm we apologised for our lateness. At this point we were told by 2 young girls on reception sorry the kitchen is closed. What? We made a booking and you don’t close until 3pm? The girls checked the book and there was our booking entered in the wrong day! How can they get this wrong when we only rang on Friday - just not good enough. Dreadful customer service we won’t be back.

I have been a regular customer here for a few years now and up until now everything has been very good. Let me make it clear, the food was always nice, the prices were good and the 'local' staff were attentive and really pleasant. Unfortunately this particular night was spoilt by the unpleasant 'head' waiter who went out of his way to humiliate me in front of my family and friends for daring to ask for a clean fork because the fork that I had been given still had remnants of the previous user's dried food on it. He then went on to 'play to the crowd' and loudly mock a physical disability that I have. I was mortified by this disgraceful behaviour, but as the night was a special occasion for one of our party I had to pretend that it didn't bother me (it did). In conclusion, when we had another reason celebration a few weeks later I made sure that we went somewhere else. I have no intention of crossing their threshold again any time soon.

Dropped in just before 9pm on a Friday night and asked for a table for two, we were told there was a table but we would need to order within 5 minutes, not a friendly welcome. Menu looked promising and ordered a pizza and a lasagne, we specifically asked if there was Mozzarella in the lasagne, the waitress said she would check and come back 'only if there was to take an alternative', my wife has a serious allergy with Mozzarella. The food arrived and presentation was excellent, unfortunately, there appeared to be Mozzarella in the lasagne - we double checked and yes, it was full of it. The waitress apologised, but this could have been quite serious for us. The pizza was excellent and the alternative to the lasagne (Spag Bol) was also very good. Some of the staff were excellent, however the majority were down right miserable and clearly didn't want to be there, didn't want to make an effort and watching the clock for the 10pm close time. Summary - as the title suggests, this place has potential, but some of the staff need to understand what good customer service looks like, how to smile and get alternative employment if this gig is not for them. The food was excellent, the staff let the place down. Would we return - yes, we probably would, in the hope that the miserable staff have been replaced.

Food was a bit mixed. Starter was really nice ( meat balls). Mains were ok / decent. Pizza topping was a bit under cooked for us. My pasta dish was absolutley huge... to the point of being over facing. Atmosphere on this occasion not as good as other times. The younger waitresses ( im guessing students with a part time job) are much more engaging and friendly than the older ones. We would reutrn i guess because we have enjoyed it in the past.. but probably leave it for a while for now.

Excellent service Excellent food Excellent staff APART FROM...the manager/owner who took our order.We where a party of 8 including 3 small children, he was very abrasive to the point of being rude towards the children who were having difficulties choosing their meals. He showed no empathy, no humour no thought and was very pushy and arrogant!! What a shame we should be concentrating on him rather than the excellence of the waiting staff and chefs???

We discovered this place because our accommodation finished food service at 4pm on a Sunday. Whilst not an 'intimate' place, the hosting staff were excellent, even on a busy Sunday evening. The house merlot wine was vg plus the pizzas we ordered were 1st class. Later, Sharon, the pizza chef, came to have a chat. She was interested to hear our appreciative comments, and we hope that she is working again this evening when we've booked to dine there again!

We popped in for a quick dinner. It was quiet, food was delicious, we had a chicken parmesan, bolognaise and carbonara. Service was friendly, drinks were good. I think it'd be a great atmosphere if it was busier. Will definitely go back, lovely eating place in Barnard Castle.

A lovely Italian restaurant which we’ve now visited twice and enjoyed on both occasions. We enjoyed bruschetta starter which we shared which was tasty and light. We had a Ziza gourmet pizza with additional toppings and Pollo Pepp. Both were delicious and were served hot. It shouldn’t have to be a comment that food is hot, but in so many restaurants now you’re lucky if food is lukewarm by the time it reaches you. The pizza base was thin and crispy with plentiful toppings. The sauce for the chicken was flavoursome and had depth and the chicken was moist. The Mediterranean vegetables made a nice change and complemented the dish well. It was well complimented by our wine. We had cheesecake and tiramisu for desserts and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The staff were friendly and the service was efficient. The restaurant wasn’t at full capacity for a Tuesday night, but it wasn’t empty and the food was prepared fresh so the wait time was very reasonable all things considered. The restaurant offers tasty food at reasonable prices and on both occasions we have thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

Popped in whilst on holiday to order a takeaway. We had Calzones and they were so good ! Filled with bolognese and mozzarella and so filling. Also, the restaurant was packed inside and only a week night which is always a good sign .

Lovely staff, very friendly and efficient. We had a calzone and tray pizza, both of which were delicious. If you’re after a romantic meal for two then this probably won’t be for you as the restaurant is large and impersonal. The food, however, is excellent.

We booked a table for here at 7pm on a Wednesday night and a good job we did as place was pretty full at that time and no wonder the food was amazing. Plenty of parking in car park at front or on main road. We shared a starter (a good job) as the mains were massive, I ordered the chicken Parmissan, came with a bowl of chips and Salad and the wife ordered the calazone, both were massive very tasty and hot. My chicken was that big I could only eat half of it and the same with the wife's calazone. We were both too full for a desert. Fantastic young ladies serving us nothing too much trouble for them and they kept coming with an update when the food was coming etc., can’t wait to go back next time in area.

Booked this online based on reviews and hoped for the best. We arrived on a Sunday night and were a little concerned as it was 17.30 and despite being open since 17.00 there was no one else there. However, a warm welcome and we were seated in the window. Clearly this was an old car showroom, but it had been done out well and was nice inside. We ordered starters of dough balls (rather large ones and a bit to doughy for us) and bruschetta. Then it was pizzas all round and we all commented on how good the bases were, not cremated and cooked perfectly (unlike certain well known chains) and they were large ones! We've had pizza in various places in Italy and these were up there with the best of those. Now I can eat, and there was no way I was getting a dessert down after eating that. I enjoyed every mouthful as did the rest of my family. If we are in the area again I would go pizzas and then desserts! As regards how quiet it was when we arrived, we didn't need to worry as it soon started to fill up with repeat customers and other holiday makers just like us! A great choice and highly recommended by us.

Booked a table for two, 6pm, next to window, on arrival given a table in the middle of the room with empty tables all round. When we said we asked for a window table told abruptly we did not, suggesting we were lying. I then informed the manager why we asked for a window table and again abruptly replied you did not. Customer service appalling and ordered off the premisses . Spoke to the very professional and polite owner, the following day, who arranged a meeting with the Barnard Castle manager to resolve the situation. Within a few sentences, talking to the manger, she said ‘you did not book a window table’, accusing me of lying again. I informed the owner I could never return while this person is in charge as she is very confrontational. Sadly for us, the food is good value for money, good quality and quick service.

We went for dinner a family of 6 of us. The service was absolutely terrible! The waitresses had sour faces and when my husband’s real ale wasn’t settling, twice the barmaids had an issue and were so very off hand. The food was bog standard, but the attitude and lack of customer service just takes away from the whole experience. Stay in Barnard castle quite a few times a year and certainly won’t be back. Tip: train your staff in customer service and get rid of the girl with the lips!!

We have eaten at this restaurant many times and have always had good food and good service. Sadly this visit was well below par. The quality of the food wasn’t great, the pizzas lacked flavour, the garlic mushrooms were swimming in a thin watery sauce, which was tasteless, the chicken goujons were dry and overcooked, the roasted vegetables accompanying the sea bass were very salty. Two items that we ordered were forgotten, meaning that we were half way through our meal before our granddaughter received her meal. Desserts were underwhelming and pretty tasteless. The service was lacking too, no apology for late arrival of forgotten food order, food plates almost thrown on the table, no conversation, no smiles. Very disappointing experience, especially as our visit was to celebrate our grandsons’ 10th birthday.

Good food but poor service, first time I’ve ever had bad service I. Here, but once is to many. The waitress was quite rude and blunt, she appeared to not care that I wasn’t happy with the portion size or type of food services stating it was an error on the menu. I know she’s worked there for some considerable time and not sure based on her attitude I will go back again, a lot better places to eat in Barney.

Ordered 12 pizzas and garlic breads for takeaway for my daughters birthday party and it was incredible! The children loved it fast efficient and tasty! Thank you so much

We had two takeaways from here as we were staying across the road and had our dog with us, so decided on takeaway. The pasta dishes were delicious, had carbonarra and spaghetti ragu, both great, we also had pizzas which were thin and crispy and tasted really good. Good value for money.

I was looking for a light insalata caprese after a long, hot drive, and this place was suggested to me. It was busy, but not full, and as a solo traveller I'm used to being consigned to a corner, so to be given a table away from other diners wasn't much of a surprise and I was too tired to ask to be moved. The salad was edible, but it lacked avocado and the whole thing was smothered in balsamic vinegar and dressing. The real problem with this restaurant is the service, which was brusque and offhand to the point of dismissive. I understand that the owner has recently set up a new one in Richmond, and that customer service has deteriorated. I won't be going back again.

Found our visit to this restaurant to be extremely average, and underwhelming. Although the restaurant is described as a Pizzeria, our pizzas were very bland. Have eaten here a few times and it’s great for families, quick service and nice enough. However wasn’t as impressed this last visit. There are no signs at all regarding precautions being taken regarding COVID 19. Every other place I’ve eaten out since the lockdown eased had staff wearing face masks, table numbers reduced and more spread out, menus that can be wiped down or disposable and took details for track and trace. The only thing here was sanitiser on the way in. I didn’t notice any special attention being taken when wiping down tables though it was clean. The food was ok. The pizzas looked really nice but my meal (seafood pasta parcels) had too much sauce and the pasta was overcooked so had disintegrated in the sauce. It tasted ok though. We will be back at some point however not until COVID guidelines are able to reduced further as didn’t get the impression it was being taken very seriously here.

The food here was lovely, we had three courses and wine. I would recommend the bruschetta and the frutti de mare pasta. Our waitresses were also lovely. Only complaint would be it was very quiet despite having a lot of people in, could do with more of an atmosphere.
