I love it here - amazing food - today I just popped in for a coffee which was topped with a special Halloween spooky design. Always such a wonderful, friendly atmosphere created by Rachel , Angela and all the volunteers

Met up with a good friend here for a best friend’s catch up and much needed supportive heart to heart- it was the perfect informal spot as half way between our homes, very near the station. The staff are absolutely fabulous with lovely service. They made us feel very comfortable to stay and chat with no pressure to leave. The food was very good. We had the mixed hot and cold mixed meze combinations and was perfect for us as one a meat eater and one a vegetarian. Generous portions and delicious. Thank you guys for giving us a lovely evening. The Baileys and Tia Maria was the perfect finishing touch. We’ll be back!

Food was nice. Service could be better - no forks or knives with meal, no salt/pepper despite English breakfast, and orange juice not brought over even though we ordered it. Had to go to the till twice during our meal to enquire about this all.

Food was really tasty and good value for money...The staff were pleasant and helpful...especially Roy...he helped with organising my birthday bash and was contactable at anytime, friendly, polite, approachable, happy and knowledgeable. The STABLES part of the venue is highly recommended for private parties. Thank you for a fantastic memorable 65th birthday bash 😘 ...I would also like to commend the inhouse Magician ...what a great performance 👏 absolutely amazing...well done and thanking Roy/Waiters/Magician once again.

It was a last minute decision to book Gilbert's on a Sunday morning but they had availability and I had not been for a very long time and their Sunday lunch deal of £29.95 for 2 or £36.95 for 3 courses was back so why not ! The hotel is located down a long leafy drive but there is plenty of car spaces so it should not be an issue parking. Gilbert's itself is located as you enter the main building on the ground floor with views over the garden so it's quite restful , the room not so much as it's very dated and old fashioned but to some people's taste I guess. There is a choice of 5 starters and main courses so something for everyone. Glad that a free bread roll and butter is offered with the menu. The crispy duck salad with bean shoots and watercress was tasty but served in an odd bowl rather than on a plate making it hard to eat. The tempura prawns came with a sweet chilli dipping sauce and garnished with tomato and cucumber and nice enough, the batter was crispy and light. Main course of roast beef was delicious, plenty of meat , the roasties were crisp but only warm, also served with carrot , asparagus and a bowl of cauliflower cheese which was slight pureed but tasted good and nice & cheesy. The Yorkshire could have been warmer too . Wine started from £21 , tap water was available on request, total came to £83.90 plus 10% service bringing it to £92.29 altogether for 2. Service was a little hit and miss , water had to be asked for twice, the server was not able to uncork the wine at the table and had to go to the bar to do it only to return without any wine glasses. However, plates were cleared promptly and the staff seemed jolly.

We wanted a dog friendly pub with good service and friendly staff, and that's what we got. Dog bowl and rug put out for our dogs. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was tasty. We ordered from the October set menu. The vegetarian option wasn't available, so they were given a choice from the Al la carte. The pork and steak mains received thumbs up as did the pumpkin soup. One star removed as one person said their treacle pudding with Cointreau sauce didn't taste of treacle or Cointreau. Apart from that a lovely atmosphere made for a great lunch out after our dog walk.

Lovely Hotel with an interesting history and characterful restaurant. This time we were seated in the old dining room as the main eating area was being done up but nevertheless it did not detract from the eating experience. Our meals were excellent and freshly prepared for us, my beer battered fish and chips was enormous, so much so I could not eat it all- shame. 10% added as service charge which is common place these days. Recommended.

We live nearby and pop in occasionally for cream tea on special occasions. It's always been somewhere between good and great for food and service. But this last trip was a bit like visiting Fawlty Towers. We wandered around trying to find someone, anyone, that might work there. Eventually someone gestured in the vague direction of a cold room with stark, uncovered wooden tables. Eventually, about 15 minutes after we sat down, someone offered us both a menu. About 15 minutes later we asked for water... this request was satisfied eventually. So about 30 minutes in and we had water. We tried to order but at that point we realised that we had different menus. So these menus were whisked away and we had only our water to entertain us... I'll stop there but it wasn't great. Borderline awful. It's gone from delicious treats and great service in a beautiful tea room to water in a cupboard. Good luck.
