My husband and I visited here for our wedding anniversary. The food was exceptional especially the sea bass! The staff were friendly and allowed us to have a wonderful dining experience. We were fortunate enough to stay in one of the family rooms. The room was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast before we left. Thank you The Walnut Tree staff for making our stay enjoyable and memorable. We will definitely be returning!

We found this pub by chance and finding that it was dog friendly we decided to stop for a light lunch. We received a very warm welcome by the relatively new landlord (2 months) who spoilt our dog with treats. The waiting staff were very attentive and friendly and there was a good choice of beers and food. We opted for a portion of breaded prawns and a portion of chips to share. We are naturally chatty people and enjoyed talking to the landlord and sharing some stories. After we had finished eating a group of 8 local farriers (well it was close to Newmarket) came in and we started chatting to them as well. What a great atmosphere and we could have stayed all afternoon but had to get to our next port of call by 4.00pm. The chef also came out to join in the conversations which added to the warm, welcoming feeling. We would thoroughly recommend a visit to this lovely pub and ensure that the new landlord has success in his new venture. We need more pubs like this one.

Our recent stay at this inn was a mixed experience. On the downside, the property itself left much to be desired. There was a noticeable odor in the halls, and the carpet looked hastily installed, as if it was simply thrown down and stapled to the walls. Some of the rooms even had signs of mold, and the stairs felt narrow and unstable. To make matters worse, we weren't informed of the inn's hours of operation, and in the early morning, there was no staff available to assist. The lack of phones in the rooms made it difficult to contact anyone, whether to call another room or reach the front desk. That said, there were some positives. The restaurant and bar are clearly popular, packed each night, and for good reason – the food is delicious, prepared by different chefs, each adding their own touch. One morning, the tall chef was especially kind, going out of his way to make sure we had what we needed before heading out. While the staff was small, they were friendly, helpful, and patient throughout our stay. Overall, while the inn itself could use some significant improvements, the dining experience and the staff's hospitality do make up for some of the shortcomings.
